This is a process breakdown video for an animation I created for a motion design collaboration. The theme was mid century modern graphic design.
I used Paul Rand’s artwork as inspiration for the animation, which had a 4x5 aspect ratio.
This isn't a step-by-step tutorial. See the full workflow breakdown in the linked videos below.
In this video, I dive into the creative process, look at different techniques to get a cell animation effect, and critique the end result.
The animation was done in Photoshop and After Effects. I used Runway to slow down footage and sourced stock from Motion Array.
Enjoy!

The sound design was created by Gordey Antipenko. Who did an amazing job on a very short deadline (unlike me!).

"Go somewhere else if you want professional tips" - haha. This is the reason I love your videos - raw, well designed motion that is sometimes out of the box with techniques that talk to me personally. It's a good day when you deliver new content.
I should probably start including a bibliography of professional tips people can find elsewhere. That would be a lot more helpful
@@TheVideoShopLondon Yeah, but that would be a lot of work to find specific guides that align with what you're doing. I've honestly learned tips and tricks from your videos that I would've never gotten from any sort of "professional tips" guide. Although those are great, I wouldn't say that your work is anything for a beginner in most respects 😎
Man, I've never seen your videos before. I loved this so much; it reminded me that the cool part of this job is experimenting and finding the right way to solve a problem. Thanks for this!
Glad you liked it! And yes, that's joy of our jobs for me too!
This is called quality content❤❤
Watching a breakdown and being confronted by the terrible feeling a Ken Loach movie leaves you with is not fair, but it's kinda awesome. Great work btw!
I was actually going to clip from Kes but it was too devastating. Even out of context it just wasn't funny
Fantastic!
Cool stuff
Wow, that turned out really well, I really like it.
Why don't you update Photoshop? 😁
Thank you! Ummm, I probably should. I just don't use PS very often
Nice Research
"research". It felt very lazy including me asking AI, but I did the "typical" research as well. It just didn't lead anywhere
In norwegian, we only have one word for dove and pigeon, they are both just called "due". I had to google and they belong to the same family of birds called Columbidae.... Come to think of it though, we have "skogdue"(forest dove/pigeon) too and probably other sub-species words so...🤷
This is the best comment I've received on any video, hands down. Thank you!!
Would aescripts PaintLink plugin help you in any way?
Just checked it out. Yeah possibly that would be a handy workflow!
This is literally "Raw"
