    As a camera for in the studio, BMPCC is a great choice. Chances are you could probably even adjust image settings with an ATEM Mini remotely and then you can monitor the image as well. Why don't you have an ATEM Mini Pro ISO yet? Then you can create the Davinci project with all the cameras in at once. You could literally input 4 cameras or 3 cameras with a screen capture, that would be mint!

    you want to get a cage for that bmpcc asap. those 1/4'' screw holes on the body are a known weak link and will start to wobble quite soon, especially with a heavy battery on, it will be annoying and you have to disassemble the camera to tighten them, the top mount is almost impossible to tighten, and they are embedded in plastic, it's a wonder you still have them solid. better to have the cage on it, so the original mounts don't get screwed often :) the lens mount is also screwed on a plastic bracket inside with small screws, don't put heavy lenses on it with no support

    I don't really know if I'm looking at this with the correct eye, but to me the a7s does look a lot sharper. I guess if you want cool shallow DOF and a more common look to your shots, then maybe, but the color of the PC looks so good.

    I had a og bmpcc, great piece of gear, but finding capable SD card was pain, as it doesn't work with SDXC. Fortunately I came across Kingston Canvas (pink letters on the card) and I could do 1080@30 RAW on 64GB card without loosing frames.

    Awesome vid, dude. I was just shooting with the BMPCC/SLR Magic today. I get sharper footage with my Contax 18mm though. I was recently using my Sony A7RIV and even with SLOG, the crap that comes out of that thing screams "video" while the Blackmagic eases me into 16mm art movies from a bygone era. Even with the softness, moire and crap low light, I prefer my BMPCC to my Sorny. And to your Sorny. It's a damn shame that they quit making those sensors and forced BM into regular type stuff that looks more like everything else. And next time you see Gary, tell him you did him a favor. Now he lives at one with nature and has gotten out of the rat race. Like Thoreau, Annie Dillard and Ted Kacyzinski, he just needs to build a little cabin in the woods and find peace.

    The pocket 4K with the app is the way to go so you can focus on yourself. With either the Pani 12x35, or the Sigma 18x35 with a speedbooster. But the winner in the poormans cinema camera Category is the Sigma FP. It’s full frame and you will get plenty of Toneh with any full frame lens. You can focus on yourself by using a wired remote. Add a cheap monitor, and you are good to go.

  • @goodeggproductions
    @goodeggproductions ปีที่แล้ว +2

    BlackMagic was able to do something amazing with their pocket line, and that was to put real digital cinema tools in the hands of anyone with $1000 laying around. Before that, it was just getting by with a "also does video" DSLR. And the thought of owning a RED was just nonsense at that time. They DID improve the design and the quality and the available frame rates. The pocket 4K can do 1080p at 120fps.
    But where BlackMagic lost me as a customer was their refusal to follow the market trends for indie film makers' needs. While RED, Z-Cam and Kinefinity was making very buildable cube cinema brains, BlackMagic just said, hey, here's a 12K sensor in a bag of flour. And 12K is more than 6K, so ... we good? No. And the worst part is they COULD have made a cube with the same 4K or 6K sensors they were already using, slap an SDI port and HDMI on it, keep the USB-C recording and they would have continued to own the lower end market, even creeping into the middle market.
    But they didn't. Year after year, they just updated the 6K and the same weird form factor that barely fits on even the largest consumer gimbals. So after 4 years of waiting, I jumped to RED with all the headaches and pitfalls that come with that ecosystem. Now, BlackMagic is STILL important for putting real cinema tools into the hands of anyone with $2000 (inflation?). And they're buying them. But the company isn't riding the winds of change.
    The customer base wants more options. More customization. Building a rig should be what I want. Not what BlackMagic thinks I want. So I went and spent 8x more to jump from the BlackMagic and MFT ecosystem into RED. And I'm not even upset about it. The Pocket cameras are great. But the Komodos are better. And I'm so grateful that BlackMagic exists, because without their price point, RED would have never sold the Komodo for under $10k.

    • @matthewhartman7176
      @matthewhartman7176 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Over form factor? Really? You would give up image character and internal raw (compressed or otherwise) for form factor, something your audience isn't going to even spend .01 seconds thinking about?
      I mean I guess a BMD cube would be okay. I wouldn't mind. But I sure as heck wouldn't give up the image because of not having it. Seems a little overstated. The Pocket BMDs in their current forms are still quite rig-able.
      Come to think of it was not the BMMCC not in fact a cube design?
      Each to their own, I guess.

    • @goodeggproductions
      @goodeggproductions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matthewhartman7176 Yes. I would. Plus I don't know what you mean by "image character". I've shot with the P4K for 4 years and while the image is nice, it's the lenses that do the heavy lifting there. Plus, the Komodo does internal RAW, but at 16 stops of DR over the 13 from the P4K.
      The Komodo image just looks objectively better. It's a far more professional tool.
      And look... this isn't me crapping on BlackMagic. They're great. Until there was something that fit my needs better. I waited... I TRULY did. I hoped that rumors were true of a better form factor. Of SDI on the pockets. SOMETHING to keep me.
      Then having worked on sets with P6Kpros and some with Komodos, the choice was made very clear. I had two very fully rigged out P4Ks. And now they're sold.
      The Komodo is just a better, more professional tool, for a more professional set. And the footage is gorgeous. So, if you love your BlackMagics, that's great. So did I. Until I outgrew them.

      Shot a Microsoft commercial on P4k/P6K. No one said anything other than, "oh, so you shot this on an Alexa no doubt."
      I learned a long time ago that image is more about it's visceral/emotional response than any other factor. Before this realization and like so many others in this industry I fell into the depths of GAS, and watched my finances dwindle as a result. I managed to break free of this somehow.
      Since then, I've actually progressed downward, meaning I asked myself if more expensive tools are truly worth the value they produce, and if not, where does diminishing return start becoming a deciding/objective factor.
      You clearly like the RED image. I work with all kinds of footage. It's a nice image for sure. Would I put it above any other 12/16 bit footage from any manufacture? I would personally not. This is not to diminish or disparage your preferences.
      For me, those tiny nuances are diminished return. If this very channel highlights anything the most it's this concept.
      In my view, the true benefit of owning a more expensive package is you can charge that back to the client. But you would have to in order to truly not enter into diminished return and not be in major debt for the rest of your career.
