Just for clarity, the 178.2 degree shutter in EU/AU and other 50Hz areas is applicable only if you're shooting at 24/48fps. If you're shooting at 25/50/100fps, then 180 degrees is the still the correct shutter speed.

Man, you are such a humble and knowledgeable dude! The advice you gave here is amazing and all within such an acceptable budget for most of us who are starting out or want minimal costing rigs. Thank you a ton.
Really great! We have a pretty similar setup for our BMMCC…one thing I would recommend though is getting the newly released meike 10mm mft instead of the 8 and 12. Obviously splits the difference in terms of focal lengths, but also the 10 is the same speed and 77mm filter thread as the 16, 25, and 35!
useful information, im not planning to shoot any films at this point but like to see what this camera is capable of and i learned some really useful stuff a long the way. thank you.

You have to make sure that loaf is real yummy and well lit, of course! 😂 Black Swan comes to mind. Shot on 16mm with Arriflex 416 and a bunch of Canon DSLRs. Beautiful movie.
I've just started shooting my first short film with the OG Bmpcc, and even though I'm an incompetent noob using the camera for the first time, the image quality is great. I'm trying to shoot at dawn and dusk to get good lighting for free, or in forests to break up midday light, and feeling confident so far. The camera, a quality Gimbal and a cine prime lens all in all cost £900! I was keen to upgrade to the 4K before I even began shooting, but now I see the image the OG gets, I'll probably stick with it for several narrative shorts! Maybe the 6K pro is worth the investment one day..?
Sounds like a great setup! Glad you are making good use! I think from an image and ergonomic standpoint the 6k pro is probably the best if you want to use it for professional work--however I think the Pocket 4K allows for better lens options at a lower pricepoint. High end EF glass can definitely run up the bill and like I said--better glass can trump higher resolution. But the 6K Pro is for sure a powerhouse.

I've been wanting to upgrade to the 4K, but after watching this, I might rig out the OG a bit more and squeeze out as much juice as I can from this bad boy.😄Thanks for the inspiration Will!

My complements once again! You have shared -- in real world detail -- what the capabilities are of this camera! When you pointed out that cinema film usually max's out at 500 ISO, I thought how true that is! Hollywood lights up their sets to very intense levels to allow for the limitation of film. Although my RED camera is pretty good at low light; I never plan for it to reach its' limits when I light a scene. The same with my BMPCC-OG. It is a cinema camera and you should light the scene to match the 400-800 ISO. If I really need a super low light shot... Ok I'll put my Sony A7 on the job. But it's not going to match the "look" of the BM-OG without some work in post. So I say pick one up on eBay or where ever and punch it in to your next job! Even if you have a high speed new era camera, you still have to do some work in post to match the unique color science available from this camera... just saying.... :)

Mammoth video! I never plan to shoot a feature but I learned a lot about how to rig the camera from this video, thanks. I've been struggling with noise that is colored (i.e. red green and blue noisy dots visible in Resolve instead of the achromatic noise I see in other people's videos). I'm using a Metabones adapter and Canon 17-55, and stopping down and zooming in a bit to try to reduce artefacts from being wide open or at the widest angle. Shooting 23.97FPS and 400 ISO in RAW. I'm able to expose to the right with my light, so I don't think it's an issue of light. Wondering if my sensor is bad or if changing glass would help, or if I'm doing something else wrong.

The only way to check firmware is to connect the camera to the computer. Honestly you would be best to just download the firmware package from the BMD site and go through the install process. If the camera doesn’t need it-no harm done and you’ll have confirmation. It takes about 5 minutes and is free. The camera connects to the computer via usb, which is located unter the battery door. The camera also needs to be connected to DC power during the update. But there is no need to have access to HDMI to update the firmware 👍🏻 Also, the firmware is version 2.1
You've made an excellent series of videos regarding the bmpcc.. however, what are your thoughts on someone using the Canon c100 Mark II... the look of the BM cameras is truly unique and filmic, but how close can people get with Canon c100 line?
Thanks for watching! Honestly I have very little experience with canon or the c100s etc. I’ve directed a few shorts with one, but never actually used it myself so I don’t feel qualified to advise on using the camera the same way I do with Blackmagic.

When I had a crew and designated audio they were using some line of sound devices. When I was working solo the Zoom H6n with sennheiser lav and Boom worked very well.
It really depends. A lot of the C-Mount lenses that were found on the old Bolex cameras were quite good but most are a bit small (and not all will cover a s16 sensor since the Bolex was r16). So I think you could get some good images but I don't know if there is much advantage as far as workflow on set. But by all means, work with what you got :)

I am tryna find a BMPCC OG to buy and I can't find one in decent shape anywhere, I'm obsessed with this camera! There's a playlist called The Psychomodo on my channel of vids that were shot with one, and I want one myself.
Not currently, but I would suggest checking mpb.com they have a few and they are always tested, accurately described, fair priced and have a return window I believe.
I sell them on my website (www.willvontagen.com/category/bmpcc-og) and am happy to ship to Europe. I’ve shipped to 32 countries so far. Let me know if you have any questions :)
I would say so. The only thing to keep in mind is the audio would need to be recorded separately. I shoot my TH-cam with the Pocket 4K partially because I can run my audio straight into camera with the mini xlr ports. However image and usability I don’t see a reason why the OG couldn’t be used for such videos :)
The motion cadence on the Blackmagic OG is not right imo. It's what stops it from looking like a "real movie" as you say. Your cinematography looks fantastic though, great job.
Omai, what a great review on how to make a movie. Finaly i learned a lot! And me, I just sold mu OG, grrr.... My question for you is , for our next feature film : should you buy the 4K or the 6K pro? Like you said, and I agree most, Shollow depth Of field is indeed not so imortant! And maybe another question, if you find the time : wich lensens should you use (i plan on shooting vintage lenses?). Thanks very much for this vid : I folow you from now on ;-) (ps : here a short I made this year with an Alexa classic, but the camera is too heavy for a whole movie, so i selled it : th-cam.com/video/w_HZnK5x6dE/w-d-xo.html ) gr, Nicolaas
8:17 another example why nobody should care about whats the max ISO of a camera. because ISO is a bullshit standard and camera makers like Sony and canon make use of that bs to trick people into thinking they are getting some super sensitive sensor. For an example, GH5 will give you brighter image at 6400 ISO than Sony A7SII at 24600 and noise on both will be pretty much same. Sony can go up to even 100 thousand but after 12800 its just increasing ISO number and no gain in brightness at all. just increases noise. Almost like they faked ISO values to make people feel they are getting like 10 times better sensitivity. So comparing ISO of two different cameras is like comparing max RPM of two cars.

Haha, when was this? Are you talking about the beaulieu 6008?
@@WillvonTagen Yeah so, I have been looking at videos about the og bmpcc and I came across yours. My dad said "that's the guy your mom bought my S8 camera from." He remembered the name because he's German and you were in Germany when you sold it.😁Small world!! I am tryna find a BMPCC OG to buy and I can't find one in decent shape anywhere, I'm obsessed with this camera! There's a playlist called The Psychomodo on my channel of vids that were shot with one, and I want one myself.
Would be cool to still easily get your hands on this camera, but paying $1200 for a used version is silly. Love the image this thing produces though.
They sell very regularly for $500 and under on eBay. I’ve even grabbed a few for much less-just gotta be patient and keep looking :)
Is there a raw workflow for fcpx with this thing? Without going into resolve…?
Will, do you have a BMPCC OG for sale?
Not currently, but I would suggest checking mpb.com they have a few and they are always tested, accurately described, fair priced and have a return window I believe.
I want to rent your movie, but I can’t seem to get access from my country (Denmark) I really wanted to watch it!
Brother, I don't know if You already mentioned it, but what filter can I buy rap to use on it?
♥
:) :)
Awesone info, why do you prefer 23.976 over 24 FPS?
And what are you project settings in Davinci- color spaces etc when working with the OG?

where could I watch your films you shot with the OG?
I dont find any cases for bmpcc og in europe anymore. Does someone has a tip for me what I can do?
I sell them on my website (www.willvontagen.com/category/bmpcc-og) and am happy to ship to Europe. I’ve shipped to 32 countries so far. Let me know if you have any questions :)

BMPCC OG should be fine now even more you can push it father in post if you film RAW and uprez denoise it should be plenty most of the time.
OG 😁🤙
Is the BMPCC OG good for shooting TH-cam videos like this one?
I would say so. The only thing to keep in mind is the audio would need to be recorded separately. I shoot my TH-cam with the Pocket 4K partially because I can run my audio straight into camera with the mini xlr ports. However image and usability I don’t see a reason why the OG couldn’t be used for such videos :)
The motion cadence on the Blackmagic OG is not right imo. It's what stops it from looking like a "real movie" as you say. Your cinematography looks fantastic though, great job.
esa cadencia la alcanza la bmpcc 4k?
@@GabrielAlbaAudioVisual does la alcanza mean the same? wait I looked it up. but I don't understand your question. I don't speak Spanish
@@robertpaterson5477 is the cadence of movement in bmpcc 4k acceptable?
@@GabrielAlbaAudioVisual it’s better. But the Sigma FP is better than both of them. I would like to see Will shoot a feature with that
Hmmm.. I haven't noticed an issue but who knows--I have the same opinion about the Micro so it's possible. Thanks for watching :)
