In the event that a Samsung refrigerator has a defrost issue, the temps inside both sections will gradually rise. The frost builds up so thick the fan motor can’t pull air across the coils to cool properly.
Samsung refrigerators go into auto defrost every 8-10 hours. The main control board on the back is what sends power to the defrost heater in the refrigerator and freezer (on dual evaporator systems)
Reasons to put a Samsung refrigerator into forced defrost mode:
    1. Thermostat/Sensor test good. 2.5k-89k-4.5vdc
    2. Defrost elements test good. (Freezer 58 ohms Refrigerator 103 ohms)
    3. Need to test parts on evaporator but can’t because frost is to thick to access.
The defrost heater in the freezer is a (215 watt 120vac) cal rod element.
The defrost heater in the refrigerator is a (140 watt 120vac) cal rod element.

To put a Samsung refrigerator into forced defrost mode you need to press a few button sequences:
-Press both the “Power Freeze” and “Fridge” buttons at the same time.
-Hold both buttons in until display beeps and goes blank.
-To force fridge defrost element to come on, press “Freezer” button a second time.
-To force defrost on both the refrigerator and freezer sections, press the “freeze” button a third time.

Excellent helpful video. There is another solution to the ice maker problem that I stumbled upon in an online conversation. First clean out the ice from the ice maker (hair dryer, towels, etc.). Once it's de-iced, turn the refrigerator back on (you may need to push the blue reset button on the top front right of the ice maker cavity to get the ice maker to work). Once the ice maker is full of ice, TURN IT OFF using the button on the front control panel. Do not turn the ice maker back on until you've used all or nearly all the ice, then refill the ice maker, and then TURN IT OFF AGAIN. For whatever reason, this solves the problem. We have been doing this for 2 years and have not had to de-ice the ice maker in all that time. Prior to that, we had to de-ice about once a month.

awesome! I have the same issue and have recently just started making my own ice in the freezer and haven't turned on the ice maker in a while, but i'll try this as I had thought about it. it seems like the ice got piled up and stuck where it would dump out, then everything would just freeze solid.

I used a smart-plug and programmed it to turn off my refrigerator for 1hr everyday between 1-2am. I tried every damn DIY fix for this problem but only smart-plug method fixed this issue permanently. No more fan noise or ice buildup for me for past 6 months. Food stays just fine and it save electricity too. Defrost all ice before starting . Thank me later ! 😊

I have an older version of this Samsung, side by side, had an issue with the ice maker, turned out to be an off balanced from front to back, the tray was filling but not evenly, so balanced it, but wasn't filling to specs, so changed the filter, that fixes that problem, now today the damn fan sounds like it's hitting Styrofoam, sure enough ice was forcing the foam into the fan causing the blades to hit the Styrofoam, so did 2 forced defrost cycles to fixed that problem, but the main problem was the seal magnet around the fridge door, it wasn't sealing at the bottom, so fixed that and now no more freezing up issues on the fridge or freezer, so always check to see if the magnetseal is sealing all the way around, BTW great job.

Happy Father's Day. Replaced my icemaker about a year ago, had an internal leak. Lots of class action lawsuits against Samsung. Also, their washers/some models, dont have an accessible/removable lint basket. Our socks and my Wife's undergarments are always clogging the impeller pump. This pump, does not have an easy access removable pull out basket, like some of the other models. You have to, get under the machine and remove the hose to the impeller and remove the coins, undergarments, etc. This is a real pain, when it is a stackable unit, dryer on top of washer. Worst design ever. I will never/ever buy a Samsung appliance again. Thank you for your videos.

They have nothing but problems with the ice maker it has been repaired or replaced 5 times so far they told them the next time it has an issue they are going to give them a new refrigerator from what i have learned doing a lot of research and talking to a lot of people all brands of this style refrigerator give problems I don't i will buy this style when i have to replace ours.

Happy Father's Day. Great fix. I have heard a lot of about the junk Samsung refrigerators and their ice makers. I don't know if it is poor engineering or poor quality control. But their should be a class action suit against the company to refund everyone's cost of the refrigerators. To me this gives them a complete bad name for all products. Thanks for the video.

It's definitely a bad design, in several ways. And Samsung does not want to admit to anything. They screwed up so badly that it would cost them a fortune to rectify all the problems, so they just bury their heads.

We have the identical fridge to the one in the video. A few months after we purchased it, it stopped working entirely. Samsung had to order a part for it and it took a couple weeks to come in. We ended up having to buy a cheap bar fridge while we waited, so we had a place to keep milk and eggs. We had a big Costco box of burgers and a whole bunch of steaks I the freezer section. We had to cook them all up on the barbecue so they wouldn't go bad. We still had to throw out a lot of it because you can only eat so much. Now we have this same problem with the fan making a noise because of it frosting up. Next fridge, not Samsung.

Question for you. I am curious about the cabinet spacing around your refrigerator. Someone mentioned that lack of airflow could be causing my problems but your set looks exactly like mine. Do you have any venting in the wall behind the refrigerator? Fortunately, I purchased a protection plan when I bought my refrigerator and of course my problems started just after the one year mark I have a technician coming on Monday so we will see what sort of a fix they make to mine.

One tip I’ve learned: any time I add or replace any kind of heating element, I first measure and make a note of the resistance of the new part. That way if a problem happens down the road I can quickly rule that part in or out.

What if the noise sounds like a fan coming from the ice maker area? I've put my ear to the back of the fridge and moved my head around listening to where it sounds theist pronounced and it sounds like right behind the ice maker area. Is there even a fan right behind the ice maker or in that area? I know I see the fan in the fridge area where the cover is, but the noise isn't loud in that middle area and I don't see any ice buildup in the slats in the fridge.

Let it be known that if you purchase a Samsung refrigerator, you need to be adept at repairing it yourself. Finding someone to repair a Samsung once the warranty is out is nearly impossible. I had a Samsung that needed repairing and could find no one in my area to work on it. I called Samsung and was given a phone number to call to get my refrigerator repaired. When I called the number Samsung gave me, the repair shop told me they do not work on Samsung products and never have worked on them. So much for customer service at Samsung. I will never purchase another Samsung appliance again. EVER.

Your fan was probably not working anymore. No fan, no circulation of the cold air.

I was warned too stay away from the Samsung brand , but I had already bought a front loader washer/dryer Samsung and I'd replace an heater element in the dryer after 6 years . Yes stay away from any Samsung brand .

I have had trouble with my tv not staying connected to wifi. Have to input password everytime I turn it off. Have replaced the wifi module and no better. Wonder if its the motherboard?

@@mgomez5606 ..... LG TV's had issues too with the WI-Fi card, it was oxidisation of two different metals of contacts & socket, just a clean would fix it.
The computer industry learnt that years ago with plug in cards failing.

@@johntran9985 yep, this last time I moved the sensor higher up on the pipe in hope the defrost stays on longer and added thicker weather stripping around the back cover, no ice up yet.
