I have the 2019 GT. Average size at 6 foot 183 lbs. My wife in 5 foot 90 lbs.
Riding solo with no luggage, front preload at 11mm... The bike is a little soft, mostly in the rear. With luggage and wife with rear preload and rebound turned up, it is unbelievably bouncy and dangerously unstable. After 8000 miles I noticed the rear shock is worn out as that is the recommended milage to replace it. The rear shock is not serviceable. I have a rear race shock on order from YSS and intend to do a video on it. The race shock has a heavier spring with high and low compression adjusters as well as rebound and ride hight. Then will go with heavier oil in the front forks. Stay tunes for what all new Yamaha Bikes need

i fitted a yss rear shock built to my weight on my 2014 MT09... it wasn't till i came to trade the bike in and i swapped back to the original shock that i realised i noticed very little difference. Was it better? A tad... it didn't blow me away.

@@ShiteLines I ended up with Ohlins shock ya537 and Ohlins fork springs 08422-90.
It was a huge improvement. It completely transformed the bike from a dangerous pogo ride to a magnificent handling dream in corners and braking. It made me realize that Asian Motorcycles are not safe out of the box and should not be allowed on the road without a proper suspension setup from the dealership.
I didn't use YSS after reading many reviews of failures and conversing with seller and less than adequate website information...

@@cruisingthethaiway6881 all too common it seems. I had a 2014 MT. Wasn't happy with the suspension on that at all and with paying the premium to go GT I expected more. The bikes fine and I can accept it for what it is but I expected more. No point in me splashing out that sort of money when I've already convinced myself to live with it....at least until the pcp is up. It's an outstanding bike ...I'd have paid an extra grand for the suspension as part of the package tbh.

@@ShiteLines if you ride on the conservative side and on the small size I can see how it can be acceptable. But for a larger, heavier people that load the bike or push it to the max in A mode, it is not safe to ride. I would like to see regulations that would make bikes safer to meet the needs of customers. To make the roads safer for everyone. I feel that this is as important as proper education of riding skills.

Thanks for sharing, fellow gt owner here, I have to say I think the wet conditions might have had a lot to do with your less than positive experience riding two up, but did you use the pre-load adjustment on your rear shock at all?, I didn’t hear you mention any thing about it and it might have helped the situation.
Personally I’ve had my wife on the back with me for a three hour ride on all sorts of roads in the dry and the gt was outstanding.

Hi John, I did wind the preload on a couple of clicks, maybe not enough though. I should probably get more practice in with the pillion and in the dry too. Thankyou for the inspiration and your comments.

I’ve found my Tracer to be fine two-up and I don’t often go out with a pillion. I wound on the pre-load 3 clicks and increased the tyre pressures in accordance with the handbook - 36 front and 42 rear from memory. I’ve only ever been out two-up in the dry as I don’t have much confidence in the stock tyres in the wet even on my own. One of the key changes I will be making in the new year will be better tyres. I have also found that staying in B mode helps with smoother throttle control and this helps to stop any helmet clashes. Hardest thing two-up is getting on and off - causes much hilarity at times.
