Yamaha Tracer 9GT | 5 Good And Bad Points

  • I go over 5 good and 5 bad points of the Yamaha Tracer 9GT, Yamaha's middle weight sports touring motorcycle is all new in 2021. Formally called the Tracer 900GT it still keeps its famous CP3 triple engine from the MT09.
    It is a fun and fast sports tourer with panniers as standard and wind protection at the front. In competition with the new Honda NT1100 and the Ducati V2S, it is a competitive market. I get to know the bike better over a few days and go into detail of its good and bad points.

    You answered the question on high speed buzzing. Good review! I agree at 63, the vibration would get to me. As would be expected, my 400 cc dual sport buzzes hard at 55 plus; don't want that in my touring bike. Thanks again!

    Nice review! I went from ducati multi 950 to this (due to accident) and is a better bike. maybe it does not have the brakes of the ducati but motor and handling in road is a lot better, performance better, engine sound better, drive in big traffic better without the ducati heat problem from the engine. On the other hand wind protection, button ergonomics and offroad capabilities are better in ducati.

      Any particular reason why you "went down" from a S1000XR to a Tracer 9 GT ? It thought the BMW felt faster and more premium compared to the Yamaha last time I rode it (2019 model). I do not think I would buy a Tracer 9 after owning the BMW if it were not for an economical reason perhaps.
      If it were not for KTM being so unreliable I could have tried the Super Duke 1290 GT after owning the S1000XR however.

    I had the 2015 model. Great Engine! Seat was horrible! I finally found a custom seat builder who took the stock seat plate and built a acceptable seat. I ultimately went with the biggest windshield I could find as wind buffeting was bad. I put over 33,000 miles on it and it was a blast! I miss it despite its pitfalls.

  • @ernieschatz3783
    @ernieschatz3783 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Most of your good and bad points are the same as other reviewers, so this seems legit. The one exception is vibration. I'd just like to add that what feels vibey to one rider isn't felt all that much by the next. This is the first time I've heard a reviewer say that vibes are a serious issue on the 9GT. I've test rode a Tracer 900 and extensively rode an XSR900. Both felt very smooth throughout the rev range; among the smoothest engines I've experienced. I've owned quite a few engine types, and some of the inline fours would put my arms to sleep. My Super Tenere's parallel twin produced vibes that I felt were the strongest, until I changed the exhaust. Anyway, the sensation of vibes from different bikes seems like it varies widely among individuals. Also, one person might experience vibes at higher or lower frequencies than another. I reckon that has much to do with body composition/physical makeup.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ernie, yes you are exactly right in that different people experience different vibes etc... I have ridden some bikes that I have felt no vibes and other say it is terrible! I suppose the vibes are not that bad, I think it is getting used to the bike, but I definitely do feel some quick vibes especially at higher speeds.
      I often put it down to just getting used to a bikes characteristics, once you know the bike you learn to accept its different qualities (unless it is very bad!) I thin kyou are right about different physical make up etc... Cheers

    Nice review, how would it compare to the new nt1100?

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks 👍 Although in the same category (sports tourer) it is a very different motorbike! The NT1100 is much more relaxed and calm. The Tracer 9 is more exciting to ride and more on the sporty side. I would say the NT1100 has better build quality and is really very nice to ride over long distances. However the Tracer is more fun for a "sporty" ride. Both great bikes 👍

    I had a 08 versys 650 and a 16 versys 650. Was not a fan of the vibrations at high speeds as well. Would this be due to rpm and engine size?

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I really am not too use while there are vibes there! Yes definitely gets worse at higher rpm, I think something to do with the set up of the bike in relation to the triple engine. It is not the best build quality.

    Good objective review. I could live with all the negatives you highlight except for the vibes. Such a shame as you say it is terrific vfm, but not if you can't live with the buzz through the bars and foot pegs. They would surely get to you and drive you nutz. Screen I am sure there are after market solutions, switch gear and dash you could get used to. Seat maybe the sit comfort is different for different riders? I took a hard look at this bike before I got a Speedmaster and I found it, the Tracer, quite ugly and too angular and I had been riding a 2013 Yamaha FJR..

      @@steveoconnor7069 Why are you comparing a fast lively sports tourer with a cruiser ? The speed master looks like a boring unimaginative design, which coincidently matches the bikes ride. So why did you look long and hard at a bike that’s miles apart from what you actually want? If you want a gorgeous well designed bike look at a Ducati panagale or MV veloce. Does the speed master look like those ? Nope.

    Been riding for 40 years, had many, many bikes for all Yamaha. Personally, I think the whole MT range are some of the ugliest bikes ever made. Seemingly not designed but thrown together. Personal taste differs, of course, but I'm sure I not the only one who thinks so.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Douglas, having spent longer with this bike I grew to like it even more. However I do agree with you, the MT range definitely is an acquired taste in the looks department! I am not too much against them but I see where you are coming from! Cheers
