Its nuts that I own a couple of these from just picking up some weirder PS2 games I wanted to make sure I owned about 5 years ago. Prices have just gone absolutely insane in the last few years.
I did the same thing. Picked up Wild Arms 5 and Suikoden 5 at a used video game shop for around $40-$50 each around 5 years ago, friends thought I was nuts paying that much for an old PS2 game, but I was a huge JRPG fan, didn't have a newer playstation yet, so I bought both. Today I think both of those games are going in the $150-$200 range. DOn't plan I selling either one, since I love both games.
Luckily I bought every Xenosaga game the moment they came out. Now I have a small shrine to Xenogears/Xenosaga in my office. Love the series! Thanks for the video!
I have all of the Xenosaga and .Hack titles. Didn't think the price would get that ridiculous but given how the gaming market throws games to the wayside it's rather disappointing they don't try to preserve or at least port them to each next gen console. There are some out there that we can never get back because of this.
@@lonewolffang Supplies and demand. .hack quarantine and Xenosaga 3 weren't wanted as much. The series were getting fatigue at the end. Most franchise are like that.
I bought xenosaga 1 and 2 at gamestop in 2010 for cheap but 3 had to pay about 30 to 40 bucks in 2011 and so glad I picked them up and still have to this day no regrets.
I remember picking up Drakengard 2 years ago for about $50 which was the standard at the time. I still have my copy today and did not know it went up in value.
I grabbed it dirt cheap used at a Gamestop waaaaay back in the day. I had no idea what it was, but I saw the Square logo and thought "why not?" I got stuck partway through, then grabbed the first game for even cheaper, beat it, then finished 2 and was thankful I finished 1 first because the story really connected after where I was stuck 😂 It's crazy though, how cheap those games were. They were like misfit games nobody heard of or wanted, and then look at 2 now. I still have them both sitting on my shelf.
Makes me glad I got Wild Arms 5 when I did. Bought it for $60 back in 2015, and now it's more than double the price. Retro games are becoming more and more coveted as they aren't as favored in digital porting. And even the remaster collections tend to charge a hefty fee.
The ps2 is my favorite console of all time and J-RPG is one of my favorite style of games so your video make me smile a lot thanks you :) I have all the games in the video except Xenosaga III and fun fact in my country (Belgium) Wild Arms 5, Suikoden 5 and Steambot Chronicles are cheap ^^ Awesome video, greetings from Belgium !!
I'm alwayssurprised when I see a game on these lists that I actually have. I also got lucky with the prices. I have Monster Rancher 4 ($80) and Drakengard 2 ($60).
Glad to see Suikoden 5 on the list. My favorite rpg of all time is Suikoden 2 and Suikoden 5 was a return to that formula. And I’m proud to say I own both. Great list and great content.
Grabbed the xenosaga games off ebay around three years ago, and even the third game ran me just $50 for a nearly perfect copy. It's crazy how much its jumped in price.
idk the 1st one is about 20 bucks and the second 40 on Ebay right now. The 3rd one is the priciest one but I've seen copies go for 120. If any pays more than that, they are suckers
That kind of makes sense. The Xenosaga series did not perform as well as Square wanted so it got wrapped up double quick. And with Episode II hemorhaging fans with its weird, more realistic look, before toning back up on the anime influence, not a lot of people stuck around for 3.
@@Bustermachine Squaresoft didn't develop Xenosaga, Monolith Soft did. Squaresoft developed Xenogears. From what I remember at the time, the different art direction wasn't a deal breaker (people kind of expected it might change art styles with every episode after Ep.II) aside from people's reactions to Shion and KOS-MOS, who were the most drastic changes. The fact that whoever at Namco or Monolith decided to change the writers and to alter the story the original writers put down (which would have been WAAAAYYY better). was it's nail in the coffin. The drop in quality of the writing and direction is tangible a little after halfway through the game.
I have heard of every PS2 game on your list, I just never got the chance to play any of at all, they all look real good but being both rare and costly it's going to be hard to find any of them, thank you TVGS for giving us the information on these games, I really appreciate it good job ✌️
Highly recommend steambot chronicles it’s a head of its time since it’s kinda open world JRPG before open world games where possible in that generation until xenoblade chronicles on the Wii and the amount of things you can do in that game puts many open world games today to shame.
I thought I should add a minor correction: Xenosaga 3 was NOT correcting anything from Xenosaga 1. Xenosaga 1 had few to no complaints, was VERY well received and very well liked by fans of the series and newcomers alike. I suppose the only issue players generally had, was the story was both too convoluted and overly complex, while what we're exposed to in the game is far too short for what it should have been. However this complaint related to convoluted is common for even the 3rd game, and that game has the inverse complaint of doing too much with too short a game...they planned on 7~9 games, and had to attempt to finalize it with the 3rd. The ONLY reason Xenosaga 3 was created at all was due to the popularity of Xenosaga 1. The issue, and the SOLE issue was Xenosaga 2, which had three core problems players complained about: 1 - the pure RPS battle system, and Momo's breaking of that rule, followed by inverted RPS rules related to the gears. It's not that RPS tactics were inherently a problem, as they were distinct from Gears and Saga 1, which did not force Atlus rules of 1 attack type dealing damage, and the rest barely chipping away. It really made party makeup VERY frustrating at times, as often due to forced characters, only one character was capable of taking out baddies in any one battle, or just one enemy, while sometimes NO character is capable of actually dealing real damage, forcing some really long battles. 2 - and an addendum to the RPS is the encounter rate in general was insanely high, even for most jRPG's. A few spots were acceptable, but especially at the start, it was absurd. This would be a non-issue if the battle system rehashed Saga 1, but given the forced RPS adding a LOT of extra time for every single battle, at least until mid-game when skills and ether powers expanded, it was extremely frustrating. As a result, very few players got passed the first five hours of play, getting to Ziggy. 3 - story direction changes, and some shocking character changes that overwrote the first game. Also the EXTREMELY slow start, when the ending of the first game would necessarily force a speedier start to the second game. The biggest issue was dramatic alterations to character personalities and even motivations, with ZERO explanation at any point. ....4 - technically one less significant issue, was character model changes ....5 or 1.1 and 3.1 - function changes especially as it relates to KOS-MOS. This is especially true when considering how nerfed KOS-MOS was both in her actual abilities, but more so, her STORY abilities. This was actually a huge controversy. Momo's sudden uber power up was also somewhat of an inside joke. She was useful in the original, but absolutely essential in most early game parties at the start, being almost the only character who could deal damage in nearly EVERY normal battle in the first 30 hours of the game.
I read all of it just fine dude. And I agree completely. One thing I'd add to #2 was the frequency of 4-enemy encounters, making annoyingly long battles that much more of a wretched slog. And Momo's sudden boost didn't bother me. Sure it was strange as hell, especially since I hardly used her in Ep. 1, but I was just happy to have a party member who could do damage AT ALL. Seriously what a bizarre game!
@@bradford433 I have to wonder if that was the main reason they made momo godtier. Oops, we broke the game and aren't sure how to fix it, so momo deals damage to everything for the win!
I personally felt 1 was the weakest of the series in terms of mechanics. Definitely not story, obviously, but the mechanics bugged me. Having to constantly level up 2 people in the same stat in order for them to go higher in said stat was an insane mechanic that just removed the fun of the game for me. I didn't originally know about it and my characters were super weak once they got pretty far into the game. After learning about it I realized that I couldn't really have any diversity. Every character would have the same stats essentially, so outside of their own differences per character, I couldn't specialize one in one way and another in another way. The newer games rectified this problem by simplifying the systems. I did like Xenosaga's way of handling stuff outside of that one MAJOR gripe though. If only it didn't have that one huge limit it could have been such a satisfying system. Maybe some characters could have become a bit overpowered, I dunno, but I would have rather they balanced it out in some way rather than limited characters to all be essentially the same in terms of stats. I did feel 2 was a bit odd, but it was probably my distaste in them replacing VAs for all of my favorite characters. They did it in 3 as well, but they were much more similar to the cast of the original, and Shion's VA came back to us.
Changing writers partway through Episode II's production and largely altering what previous writers had for the story was the downfall of Episode II. To this day, still never found out what reason they had to do, though the drop in quality of the writing was tangible enough to be painful in the later parts of the game where it started to feel "off". A damn shame we didn't get to see Jr. change into an adult and use Red Dragon Mode, and team up with KOS-MOS in her upgraded form to take on U-DO at the end of the game.
I still have all 7 of my .hack games for PS2, I bought each and every one as soon as it came out. Other than friends I tried introducing to the series, I never just came across another person who liked it or knew what it was, it seemed so obscure despite being one of my favorites. Fast forward several years and I start to hear a buzzing about how coveted some of these games are, especially Quarantine, and it was crazy to think about each time I literally just walked into a store and got each game right off of the shelf like it was no big deal. I really treasure those games, and they're some of my shining gems of my PS2 collection. Also, at one point several years ago, every PS2 Shin Megami Tensei was reprinted and if I remember directly, they only went for like, 20 bucks a piece. I already owned Persona 3 and 4, but none of the other PS2 SMT games, so I went ahead and grabbed them all. Both Raidou games, both Devil Saga games, and Nocturne. Now some of those, like Raidou, have freaking skyrocketed and I can't believe that random impulse buy back in the day is now a little treasure trove.
I still have a copy of Wild Arms 5 that came with an art book of all the previous WA characters. Unfortunately, I was never able to even put the game into the PS2 due to being deployed. When I got back life took over and I just never bought another game system, but I still have it, still look at the art book and it brings back memories of where I was back in 2007.
Luckily I've gotten to play Shadowhearts and Shadowhearts 2. Wonderful games I wish I could find or would get brought to PSN. I really hate that they cant emulate more games.
Oh yea, Steambot Chronicles was amazing, truly a shame that the sequel was canned due to the tragic 2011 disaster that hit Japan. Should have explained a bit more about the game's control system, which was quite interesting, as it went with a setup similar to Katamari Damacy in that you use both analog sticks to move in your desired direction, while the shoulder buttons were used for controlling the arms and performing jumps and dashes. I will say that while the game did start off very cliche with the amnesia plot, I liked how it actually winds up just being used to excuse how you shape Vanilla into the character you want, rather than being the convenient plot excuse of revealing something similarly cliched like "you were the villain everyone was afraid of" or "you're the ancient hero who vanished and is destined to return". Nope, once you find the character who can confirm your origins, it's just a matter of deciding what Vanilla may have been like prior to the start of the game. Of course, it was a shame how some choices didn't have nearly as far-reaching consequences as certain others did. You could be mean to a character in one moment, and hours later, going through a key scene in which the character acts like you weren't being a jackass to them the other day. Beyond that, the game really was a blast to play, and I'd love to see it get revived in some form or another, either through a resurrected sequel, or a remake on modern hardware.
.Hack Quarantine, probably the rarest game I have apparently. I own all 4 games with the instruction manual and DVD's. Almost sold them a few times back in the day, glad I didn't.
As an RPG enthusiast, I must watch this video. ---- Shadow Hearts - I have played this, but I prefer the sequel of all 3 of the Shadow Hearts games (not counting the original Koudelka). ---- Monster Rancher 4 - Another great game. As a long-time fan of the series, I didn't hate what it did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. ---- Tsugunai Atonement - Yeah, I'm probably one of the people who also never heard of this, but it looks very good... and since this is a rare game, looks like I'll have to play it via emulation only. ---- Drakengard 2 - I don't remember playing the first one, definitely didn't play the sequel. That being said, the gameplay you showed looked okay, definitely worth a try. ---- Wild Arms 5 - Long time fan of this series as well, but I don't think I got this far. Bad timing with some stuff that was going on in my personal life. Definitely want to play it, though. Sadly, though, a concussion I suffered some years back will make me not recognize some of the cameos. ---- Steambot Chronicles - Oh man. This was a demo on one of those Playstation magazines, I think, and after the demo I absolutely HAD to have it. ---- Suikoden V - I'm aware of the series, but I think it never really got my attention. ---- Devil Summoner - Raidou Kunuzoha Vs The Soulless Army - I think pretty much every Shin Megami Tensei game is on my "I want to play" list. ---- Xenosaga Episode 3 - As someone who played the original episode and felt let down by Episode 2, I think this one slipped by me. ---- .hack//Quarantine - This is a bit of a sore spot for me... I had the first 4 games and they were stolen along with my PS2 at the time, as well as some other games. It also tied into the show by bringing the significant cast members from the show as NPCs you could build a relationship with and have them be party members... but only after you beat the final boss.
I own Shadow Hearts, Tsugunai Atonement (and the soundtrack!), Drakengard 2, Steambot Chronicles, Suikoden V, Devil Summoner (1 AND Collector's Edition of 2) and all the Xenosagas. Sadly, Wild Arms 5 is a big hole in my collection.
Oh I just found this channel, this stuff is quality, and guy talking whoever you are - dude you seem cool, very relatable style but not feathery or limp. Good to see a bit of personality in a video for a change :)
I loved the shadow hearts trilogy. That's really one trilogy that should come back for a remaster. It's funny that they use the judgement ring gimmick so much in those games, even when you're shopping! I remember really liking the Key of Solomon mini game in the sequel too. I'd love a legend of the dragoon comeback too.
Some gameplay elements of Yiik was inspired by the judgement ring system. I also believe a majority of the original devs of shadow hearts worked on Lost Odyssey too. Hence, the qte similarities. Small world!
Drakengard 2 is a hilarious entry for me - my copy was a gift from a classmate for my birthday back when the game had been out for a year or two... He only picked that one because it fulfilled all three requirements we had for game purchases back then: a) it was on PS2, b) it had combat and c) it was dirt-cheap. I'm pretty sure he paid under 20€ for the PAL copy. Game prices are insane.
I’ve just given up on ever owning .Hack Quarantine. Every time I start making more money, enough to buy it at the price it was, it shoots up once again out of my price range. I’ll just emulate at this point xD
boggles my mind how these titles are considered rare and expensive. i remember buying most of these from gamestop either new or used and not think about it, for cheap. with xenosaga, that one really blew my mind. i remember pre ordering the first one and it came with big art book. regret losing it, it had some neat things in it. either way glad i was obsessed with collecting as much ps2 games as i could and grabbing most of these titles. my most expensive game is a sealed copy of silent hill 4, bought that for $10 now its worth $400.
I had a good chunk of these too. RPGs were definitely my jam when I was a teenager. But I was an idiot - I traded in my collection to get other ones. And I'd rather not pay the prices they have for these nowadays.
I'm missing Soukiden V, Wild Arms as well as .hack Quarantine but I have .hack G.U trilogy and all the others mentioned here. Monster Rancher 4 and 3 require many CDs to unlock the monsters so I had to use save files with everything unlocked. I wish they implemented some kind of alternative way to unlock the monsters.
Funny that you say that as the rerelease of Monster Rancher 1 and 2 I think came out today for the Nintendo Switch and now they did make a much easier way to unlock monsters. They give you access to a library of CDs inbuilt into the game.
I don’t think .hack G.U is rare anymore since it got remastered and SMT Rydou games are available on ps3 classic so you don’t have to pay a arm and a leg to play them.
I remember trying to buy a sealed copy of the Digital Devil Saga games (both) that were the boxed edition, and it was so expensive for a poor kid like me lol
Out of all of these, Xenosaga was my favourite of the list, "Ma Peche" Others include The Champions Of Norath 1-2. I wonder if we'll see them in Spartacus ' service this summer.
Kept a sealed copy of Xenosaga 3 I bought years ago for reasonable price and shocked to see it now worth over 4 times what I bought it for, retro gaming market really blew up past few years....
It's honestly insane to me just how expensive the xeno series has gotten, i got xenogears and saga 1/2 for about 20-30 bucks each, and 3 for 40, each with their original box art and manuals. This was back around 2016-2017 though, i guess more people are interested with how popular xenoblade has gotten.
your struggle while you try to read Raidou kuzunoha was a nice touch from you 😂 and cute if I'm not mistaken hack//gu ps2 version game's is so expensive I'm glad I bought it on my ps4 I even plat the Game I think no one would sell any game from the list if he own it beside the more the game be Rare with year's the more values increase
It's funny...so many of these I own or own previous versions which I prefer such as Monster Rancher 1 and 2...all of Suikoden though the first two are the only ones I consider true Suikoden since the creator left during 3 because they were changing the gameplay so much...Wild Arms...I own 1 and 2 ...thanks for showing 5. I will definitely get that one....sorry to blather on...great video🖤 (late to the party here, I know ... new subscriber so I'm trying to catch up.)
Proud owner of all the Shadow Hearts and Xenosaga games thanks to a friend who convinced me to buy them around 2016 o3o. I haven't played Wild Arms 5 yet but I'm happy I won't have to worry about that either since I found the game for $50 lol, I'll start it after playing through 3 & 4.
@@raizl6568 Arguably I'd say 1 and 2 were the best in the series but 4 and 5 were solid outtings as well. Mixed on 3 and Alter Code F just infuriates me.
@@palladiamorsdeus never played 1, 2 an alter code f so i don't really know how good they are. played 3 but i wasn't paying attention to the cutscenes and i got lost so i stopped. played 4 and 5 but i never finished them cause i have a bad habit of leaving a game just before i finish it. but for me 4 and 5 were pretty good. good visuals, good story, and good combat. it was nice
I can’t recommend “Suikoden V” enough! It’s basically “Game of Thrones”, the JRPG! Two noble families maneuvering and vying for control of a nation, the Godwins and Barrows, just like the Starks and Lannisters…
I remember back in the days of Hollywood Video / Gamecrazy, when I was a teenager and the friendly Gamecrazy employee struck up a conversation with me and recommended Shadow Hearts Covenant. I ended up falling in love with that game, and to this day, I hold up in very high regards in terms of story, character development, atmosphere, and gameplay. I ended up going back and playing the original Shadow Hearts and loved that too. It's an absolute crime that the series is effectively dead.
Thank goodness for modchips, softmods, and emulators. 😆 I used to pay a fortune for some of these rare games that I played while in college, but now I'm too poor to be maintaining that hobby and I'm glad there are options outside of paying through the nose for a game you want to play again.
It’s crazy I bought the xenosaga games for 10$ each. I mean the fact I even own some of these and other rare games is mind boggling because of how cheap I got them for. In the original case with manuals no less.
Xenosaga is just the best. I've never seen such an ambitious story attempted, and it just kills me that the reception wasn't what they hoped and that it hasn't been continued yet. Still hoping that one day it will, what with the commercial success of Xenoblade (which seems to have a less impactful story so far, though I've only played 80% of XC1)
I still at least have my original copies of Drakengard 1 & 2 (and I have 3 for the ps3 out of principal but I don't think I ever tried it). I don't remember playing the second game much but I played the crap out of the first one. I remember one week back then I was basically sol cause my car was getting body work & paint done after it got hit, so I binged Drakengard while I had nothing to do/was on vacation. I completed every ending and did basically everything the game had to offer. Such a dark game, I love it. Bonus points that it spun the secret ending off into the Nier franchise. I also bought the first Xenosaga & I think the first two .Hack games brand new. I though Xenosaga sucked but the .Hack games kept me interested for awhile, since they reminded me of PSO a bit. It's a shame about Xenosaga since I loved Xenogears, but i just couldn't get into it. Unfortunately I traded those in back in the day... doubt I'll be owning them in my collection anytime soon with the way the market is now.
I remember trying to get my hands on .hack Quarentine... And the third part.. I had the first two parts already, but I never even saw them being sold in germany...
The only one I never played is Tsugunai Atonement... I didn't even know that game existed. And here I tought I played all the PS2 RPGs already. lol To think I own almost all of these games at some point and never paid more than 20$ on them. I miss my copy of Blood will Tell, now it's expensive as hell. lol
I never felt like Suikoden V was a return to form as I never felt Suikoden ever significantly dipped. Suikoden III and IV are still highly respected and it is just that they went for something different to the six person battle system that didn't age as well, but story wise and character wise, they were just as amazing as the rest in my opinion. All five main games have been very well received and sold decently well for a niche RPG series. Btw, I counted the seconds from the loading for battles a while back. Gensou Suikoden IV and V have roughly the same loading time for battles and I think that I even saw the second game have the same loading time, but I would have to double check. I think that it was the animation before the battles start for IV and V that gave it them the illusion of feeling longer.
Suikoden IV had a good plot but lazy, subpar character dialog. Otherwise, it’s a good game. I was at least able to tolerate it and beat it so I could say I’ve beaten all the Suikodens. But yeah, V is leaps and bounds better…if you ignore that ONE town with the horrible music. (You know the one…)
@@TimBitten It all comes down to opinion. I liked the character dialog for IV, but I felt as though the game was too short making it harder to get into certain characters who clearly needed more screen time. I didn't feel like V was leaps and bounds better though. For instance, I preferred the visuals from IV compared to V. The background visuals in V to me just didn't sell the world even though the character models looked great, but I enjoyed the places that I went to in IV. I wasn't really a fan of the villain for V. Both he and the villain for IV felt underdeveloped compared to the rest of the cast. I think that both were pretty average when it came to animations. I wasn't a fan of Frey as a protagonist, but I really enjoyed playing as Lazlo. I think that both had cool friends of the protagonist though I will say. I preferred the story of Snowe compared to Euram Barrows as well. What I did prefer about V was that it was longer allowing for more character development, I also prefer the 6 person battle system as well as the dueling from V, but they both had awesome major battles. V may edge it out on the major battles, but not by much. Outside of that, I don't prefer V in the other areas. I would give Suikoden V an 8.5/10 and IV an 8 because I think that both were great, but I think that V stepped things up a bit more in areas that did help with the polish slightly. If IV were 10-20 hours longer giving characters more time to develop and had the six person parties, I would rate it the same as V. The soundtracks for both games live up to the Gensou Suikoden reputation of being great; so I can't split them on that.
Didn't even hit play button yet but I'm guessing..... .hack???? I remember my friend bought the 3rd part for 150 bucks!! And that was like 8 years ago!
Rule of Rose's is pretty expensive and I wish I had .Hack Quarantine I have the first 3 tho. Maybe they'll make a remaster like they did with G.U. games at least I hope so
Dang I wish I wouldn't have watched this lol, I wanna try most of these but Steambot Chronicles omg I can tell that would've been my jam as a kid. reminds me of tale concerto and tron bonn.

Of these I own Shadowhearts (plus the two sequels), Steambot Chronicles & .hack (all four).
It’s nice to see Steambot getting a mention for once!
Love me some Steambot! Such an underrated RPG.
Nice! I lucked out and bought all 4 .hacks which were cib (even had the anime DVDs) for $60.
@@evildeadfan420ify I didn’t get the anime but I do have all 4 strategy guides!
I have heard of every PS2 game on your list, I just never got the chance to play any of at all, they all look real good but being both rare and costly it's going to be hard to find any of them, thank you TVGS for giving us the information on these games, I really appreciate it good job ✌️
Glad you found the video helpful 🙂
Highly recommend steambot chronicles it’s a head of its time since it’s kinda open world JRPG before open world games where possible in that generation until xenoblade chronicles on the Wii and the amount of things you can do in that game puts many open world games today to shame.
Dot Hack is still the best mmo I ever played :)
I really wish there was a proper .hack MMO
💯%! Both IMOQ and G.U. Are fantastic. The music is legendary.
Great video! I worked at a video game store during the PS2 days and this is my first time hearing of Tsugunai: Atonement
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, haha yeah that game is so under the radar its insane 😅
@@thatvideogamesshow I think I only ended up hearing about it because Yasunori Mitsuda did the soundtrack.
I thought I should add a minor correction:
Xenosaga 3 was NOT correcting anything from Xenosaga 1.
The issue, and the SOLE issue was Xenosaga 2, which had three core problems players complained about:
1 - the pure RPS battle system, and Momo's breaking of that rule, followed by inverted RPS rules related to the gears.
The biggest issue was dramatic alterations to character personalities and even motivations, with ZERO explanation at any point.
....4 - technically one less significant issue, was character model changes
....5 or 1.1 and 3.1 - function changes especially as it relates to KOS-MOS.
I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or sorry that happened
I just downloaded all the Xenosaga games yesterday - I'm sure glad I did, too. It cost me a whopping $0!
For pc or hacked console?
Wow didn't know the SMT series was included, nice video compilation for hard to find and expensive ps2 rpgs. Im playing Raidou vs King Abbadon.
So glad I have the whole dotHack tetralogy. I played the same save file all the way up to the 4th, never did finish it though.
7:52 My aunt says the first Wild Arms world is Filgaia too, she played it when she was a teenager
As an RPG enthusiast, I must watch this video.
----
Shadow Hearts - I have played this, but I prefer the sequel of all 3 of the Shadow Hearts games (not counting the original Koudelka).
----
Monster Rancher 4 - Another great game. As a long-time fan of the series, I didn't hate what it did, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
----
Tsugunai Atonement - Yeah, I'm probably one of the people who also never heard of this, but it looks very good... and since this is a rare game, looks like I'll have to play it via emulation only.
----
Drakengard 2 - I don't remember playing the first one, definitely didn't play the sequel. That being said, the gameplay you showed looked okay, definitely worth a try.
----
Wild Arms 5 - Long time fan of this series as well, but I don't think I got this far. Bad timing with some stuff that was going on in my personal life. Definitely want to play it, though. Sadly, though, a concussion I suffered some years back will make me not recognize some of the cameos.
----
Steambot Chronicles - Oh man. This was a demo on one of those Playstation magazines, I think, and after the demo I absolutely HAD to have it.
----
Suikoden V - I'm aware of the series, but I think it never really got my attention.
----
Devil Summoner - Raidou Kunuzoha Vs The Soulless Army - I think pretty much every Shin Megami Tensei game is on my "I want to play" list.
----
Xenosaga Episode 3 - As someone who played the original episode and felt let down by Episode 2, I think this one slipped by me.
----
.hack//Quarantine - This is a bit of a sore spot for me...
The judgement ring from Shadow Hearts sounds a bit like an early QTE system, similar to the combo system from Legend Of Dragoon!
I believe there were a few people from the original Legend of Dragoon team that worked on Shadowhearts.
I wholeheartedly disagree with this comment.
Neither of these games have QTE systems. They are active turn based RPGs.
@@afk_austin9699 I have never heard about this. If it's true that makes me love Shadow hearts even more than I already did.
There was talks a while that Xenosaga was discussed to come to Switch. But that got binned. But yeah these are proper expensive! Great video as always
I’ve just given up on ever owning .Hack Quarantine. Every time I start making more money, enough to buy it at the price it was, it shoots up once again out of my price range. I’ll just emulate at this point xD
My first game when I got my ps2 was shadow hearts I still have all 3 of them among a great set of RPGs ps1,2 nd 3 alike :)
I sold my PS1 RPG collection back in 2005 for like 50-70$ a pop, I bet they're worth even more these days.
Ah, Xenosaga series, the very first title of JRPG genre I ever played. Thank you, this video sure bring me back my most nostalgic moment in my life.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
I wish Namco would port Xenosaga to current consoles.
boggles my mind how these titles are considered rare and expensive. i remember buying most of these from gamestop either new or used and not think about it, for cheap. with xenosaga, that one really blew my mind. i remember pre ordering the first one and it came with big art book. regret losing it, it had some neat things in it. either way glad i was obsessed with collecting as much ps2 games as i could and grabbing most of these titles. my most expensive game is a sealed copy of silent hill 4, bought that for $10 now its worth $400.
I own every one of them. Collecting and playing rpg's for decades.
I had a good chunk of these too. RPGs were definitely my jam when I was a teenager. But I was an idiot - I traded in my collection to get other ones. And I'd rather not pay the prices they have for these nowadays.
I still have wrapped copies of the entire Xenosaga series...I loved them all that much. I also have Shadow Hearts
I had a chance to buy xenosaga 3 for $45 brand new at a second hand shop about 2 years ago and I passed on it.. still hate myself lol
I bought a copy of Drakengard 2 for my 12th birthday for 15 bucks. Now it's the most expensive RPG in my collection. Life is crazy!
I was able to find a copy of Wild Arms 5 for about 40 dollars at a local video game store. Of course, that was nearly six years ago as well.
I remember trying to buy a sealed copy of the Digital Devil Saga games (both) that were the boxed edition, and it was so expensive for a poor kid like me lol
Out of all of these, Xenosaga was my favourite of the list, "Ma Peche"
Others include The Champions Of Norath 1-2.
I wonder if we'll see them in Spartacus ' service this summer.
Kept a sealed copy of Xenosaga 3 I bought years ago for reasonable price and shocked to see it now worth over 4 times what I bought it for, retro gaming market really blew up past few years....
Oh man. Monster Rancher. My sister owned it and raised a little penguin looking thing. It died and she was so devastated she never played it again.
Please make a list of RPG Shooter games on PS1 & PS2 love your videos keep up the good work.
So Kite got Helba to share her secret on how to get 9999 HP and 999 MP.
Wild Arms 5 is, of course, the game I need and the most expensive in the series.
your struggle while you try to read Raidou kuzunoha was a nice touch from you 😂 and cute if I'm not mistaken hack//gu ps2 version game's is so expensive I'm glad I bought it on my ps4 I even plat the Game I think no one would sell any game from the list if he own it beside the more the game be Rare with year's the more values increase
I haven't played Wild Arms 5 yet but I'm happy I won't have to worry about that either since I found the game for $50 lol, I'll start it after playing through 3 & 4.
not sure if you have played the wild arms series before but the 3rd one doesn't have the hex system. the hex system is only used in the 4th and 5th.
@@raizl6568 Arguably I'd say 1 and 2 were the best in the series but 4 and 5 were solid outtings as well. Mixed on 3 and Alter Code F just infuriates me.
@@palladiamorsdeus never played 1, 2 an alter code f so i don't really know how good they are. played 3 but i wasn't paying attention to the cutscenes and i got lost so i stopped. played 4 and 5 but i never finished them cause i have a bad habit of leaving a game just before i finish it. but for me 4 and 5 were pretty good. good visuals, good story, and good combat. it was nice
I own all of theses thankfully way before the prices skyrocketed!
I can’t recommend “Suikoden V” enough! It’s basically “Game of Thrones”, the JRPG! Two noble families maneuvering and vying for control of a nation, the Godwins and Barrows, just like the Starks and Lannisters…
Xenosaga and Xenogears the deepest story what i every saw.. and a great serias
Love me some shadow hearts
A man of culture I see 😅
Wild Arms 5 still looks so good. :D
Monster rancher was amazing. I wish I didn't lose the disc for the first two.
It’s crazy I bought the xenosaga games for 10$ each. I mean the fact I even own some of these and other rare games is mind boggling because of how cheap I got them for. In the original case with manuals no less.
The character in Tsugunai looks like the protagonist of Lost Odyssey!!!! Even runs similarly
Ps2 exclusives
Champions of norrath and Champions return to arms are excellent rpgs too.
i love wild arms 5 background sound heheh
I’m glad I picked up Wild Arms 5 on impulse on boxing day
I have the Xenosaga trilogy, it's my most precious treasure. Alongside with my black-strip Parasite Eve.
Pandemic, people going back to gaming, rare releases...I own several rare PS2 RPGs but just nope...this is insane.
I remember trying to get my hands on .hack Quarentine... And the third part.. I had the first two parts already, but I never even saw them being sold in germany...
When I saw a lot of these games for the first time, they were in the discount bin at goodwill or gamestop.
The only one I never played is Tsugunai Atonement... I didn't even know that game existed. And here I tought I played all the PS2 RPGs already. lol
To think I own almost all of these games at some point and never paid more than 20$ on them. I miss my copy of Blood will Tell, now it's expensive as hell. lol
Well, i have xenosaga 3 and .hack quarentine for years in my shelve.
I have Xenosaga 3 still sealed. I've often thought of selling it due to the sealed nature and buying a used copy (but netting money for being sealed)
What a nice list of games! Also, would you mind sharing the name of the song you put at the end? Big thanks and continue being cool and awesome!
My all time favorite system to collect for
Awesome list man!! Btw - can you PLEASE tell me what the intro song is to this video? I need it in my life 🙏🏽
I never felt like Suikoden V was a return to form as I never felt Suikoden ever significantly dipped.
Interesting list of high priced games💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
Nice list brother 😁 at least I have some of these jrpg beasts
Nice! They are getting so pricey these days man 😅 thanks for watching Gaz.
I paid $10 for Suikoden 5 at a pawn shop some years ago when they were getting rid of ps2 games. Still haven't played it...
Steamboat chronicles is still a game I desperately want to play
I actually have all of the .hack original 4 and Shadow Hearts
Got xenosaga 3 lenticular cover in a bundle for $60 in 2015 😀
Great video, one note: it's not 'hack' it's dot hack.
We need a remaster of the original .Hack games on current systems.
I own quite a few of these games on this list.
Maybe they'll make a remaster like they did with G.U. games at least I hope so
Fun fact: the cost of these games online is 2 1/2 of a 3rd of my rent. That's just ridiculous.
MS Saga: A New Dawn, Soul Nomad & the World Eaters, and Mega Man X: Command Mission are the best RPG games on the system imo.
Dang I wish I wouldn't have watched this lol, I wanna try most of these but Steambot Chronicles omg I can tell that would've been my jam as a kid. reminds me of tale concerto and tron bonn.
I have all 3 shadow hearts game's but i'll need to get the directors cut of shadow hearts covenant one day.
Hey dude! You ever think of doing a greatest mini games in games video?
Mainly due to my love of Monkey Football in Ape Escape 2.
So many to mention think it may be cool to do.
That’s a solid idea, I’ll add it to the list!
George Harrison's voice on this video!
Well I own a couple of these games. Though I don't plan to get rid of them, it's good to know they are worth something.
