We completely disagree on Degital devil saga- it is at least an 8. The atmosphere, the story, the battle mechanics (expected from SMT) and the characters are all great. The graphics not too shabby for a ps2 title. If you play SMT2, both would be a 9. Nevertheless, cool concept with rating all the ps2 games- I will be following.
Awesome video. I played a lot of rpg's during the ps2 era (Thanks Blockbuster), but when I heard 160 total, wow. I'd be surprised if I hit 1/3 of that. Grandia 3 for instance is one I never played but has a top 3 mechanic for me. Blood/spousal relatives as actual companions/teammates/party members. Children of Morta and modern GoW are the only two I can think of that actually heavily lean into this dynamic which is crazy to me as it has always felt FAR more compelling than the bog standard "Strangers before the game started" or "Childhood friends going on an adventure." There is no way I'm fighting anime gods in a JRPG because the girl that sorta flirts with me or my bro asked me to go on an adventure with them. I'd do it for family in a heartbeat though.
When you play DDS2, keep in mind that the game loves to remove characters from your party to the point I had to restart after 16 hours, because I couldn't stand the grind needed to make the underleved characters become not useless. If you focus on using Cielo and Gale or get the skill for mutual karma, you will be fine.
I love that you are doing this. This honestly helps me fogure out what rpgs I have left to obtain. Also we are doing the same thing but going about it totally different ways and thas really cool to me
this is a worthwhile goal. was curious about your age. then I heard you say you were gaming w your son. cool. i think this is a cool goal. i would do this if i could. edit: jeez just saw the spreadsheet.
This is an incredibly ambitious goal, very excited to see the rating on all those games, Also this is a perfect series for me as circumstances would have I basically missed out on all the ps2 games.,
Awesome dude! Must be much of an effort to do the challenge. I wish you best of luck on your journey!! Also I wish someone did this for the PS1, my favorite console, but with obscure lesser-known titles first..
Good luck some of those games are really difficult, and others are just really really really long. I'll def check out your smt runs for tips for Nocturne :)
Nightmare of Druaga rules in my opinion! Excited to hear your thoughts about Tsugunai Atonement, probably one of my favorite games period. Also Ar Tonelico, Kings Field IV, Alon D'ar, Steambot, Baroque. Loads of good stuff coming!
@@locloudanerpg I love Tsugunai a lot for personal reasons really, discovered it out of the blue like five years ago and I realized through playing that it came at the perfect time for me. The whole game is built upon helping people really, sort of in turn to help yourself. It can feel very gratifying, its nothing more than it is and I love that. It has a certain cozy small town atmosphere to it that some might deem boring but its super homely to me and it really struck a chord, I'm not sure what it is, the drab colors or the almost placeholder character models, it all just hit right. It isn't anything spectacular but thats sort of why I have such a fondness for it. A rich simplicity I guess. I believe for the most part its gotten quite negative reviews over the years but I've honestly learned not to take reviewers opinions for granted lmao, everyone's different
I gotta say this video was better then i expected. Not many games I'm interested in to be honest, but a few. Grandia 3 (maybe), Radiata Stories (problably), and Shadow Hearts i guess. Hopefully their will be a Shadow Hearts collection in the future with Kudelka(?).
If you're going to end up using half points on your scoring system you should use a 1-5 scale instead of a 0-2 scale. It would be cleaner looking, and you'd have the same number of options for scoring. The final score would just be out of 25 instead of 10.
I have legitimately played 93% of all ps2 rpgs . Most of which I have owned a physical copy of. Until you posted that list I had no clue . Hey, good video! As you go along playing all these rpgs I wanted to say... be carefull when you get to play the Ar tonelico series. Both games on the PS2 give you a fake ending screen and credit rolls at one point (technically it's an 'ending' but you dont get to experience the final chapters and nothing is concluded in a satisfying manner). I'm worried if your not careful you could end up rating the games after the fake endings and not experience the whole final chapter in those games. Also you forgot to link your spreadsheet in the description. Good luck on the journey!
Oh crud, thanks for both heads up, I’ll link that now. Also, I’ll make sure to do a little research on Ar Tonelico before starting to make sure I avoid that.
@@locloudanerpg Things like those of ar tonelico are somewhat common in jrpgs in general with 'true endings' usually being the actual satisfying conclusions but it's pretty funny in ar tonelico where all 3 games fake you out and you don't see a whole chapter if you don't do things right haha. It's not particularly annoying to do it right either but the fact that bad endings exists can be worrying watching these sorts of reviews. Sorry if I'm being noisy!
