My Triumph TR4 had the hole for the hand crank in the grill, but not the radiator with the hole through it. It needed it because of something to do with Lucas parts... :)
Yes, and i've used the starter motor to wind myself off the road after braking down. Put the car in 1st gear and turn the key and hold it, the car will lurch forward to get you out of trouble.
I owned a Primastar which was lovely to drive. The air intake was a duct which went right down below the front bumper, for the coolest air. People should really take a look under the bonnet before going canal-boating with their vehicles.

They'll probably have done the flooded route a few times before, got away with it, and we're seeing them trying their luck for the last time. Floods are one thing, but the fords featured are ancient ways left open deliberately to allow the local farmers to move vehicles and livestock at their discretion. The fords aren't updated to bridges and the streams aren't buried in culverts for all sorts of reasons: financial, historical, for countryside management purposes, for the preservation of ancient water meadows, to protect rare flora or fauna, or simply because the local residents don't want things to change. Drivers know the risks and take full responsibility for their actions. It can be painful to watch, but that's life.

Older cars had the air intake on top of the engine, many newer cars have the air intake in the lower corner of the front grill. if you drive into deep water it gets fed right into the engine. If you want to drive in deep water buy a fording kit.
It’s basic common sense if you drive through water this deep do it slowly, do not create a wave in front of the car as this floods the engine…it’s not rocket science and it means little chance of serious engine damage…

Some cars air intakes are at the top of the engine bay and some are much lower. I used to drive a Renault Megan with the air intake only 100mm above the ground.

It wasn't even that deep as rest of cars. But Fiesta like most of hatchbacks is very low so engine flooding is more likely.

Older cars had the air intake on top of the engine, many newer cars have the air intake in the lower corner of the front grill. if you drive into deep water it gets fed right into the engine. If you want to drive in deep water buy a fording kit.

It’s basic common sense if you drive through water this deep do it slowly, do not create a wave in front of the car as this floods the engine…it’s not rocket science and it means little chance of serious engine damage…

Most of these could have made if they’d just followed simple proceedures.

Some cars air intakes are at the top of the engine bay and some are much lower. I used to drive a Renault Megan with the air intake only 100mm above the ground.
