Daniel Komen is STILL the only human to have run under 8minutes for two miles, clocking 7-58. No other athlete of any era has gone under 8minutes for 2miles
You do not often see a grimace on Hailes face, that's an indication of just how quickly both he an Komen were running. On this occasion, Komen got the better of him, and so close to the WR, that's how fast the race was.
Kowman was unique runner... his world record 3000m which still standing was 7:20.. imaginary time the only runner who came close to it was another great Hicham El Guerrouj 7:23... with all due respect to Haile Gebreselassie and Bekelee.
thats true..a truely outstanding record. But with that said, how many times did Bekele go for the record? His PR time, the pacers were going so slow the first few laps unlike Komen who had great pacing
@@blindguardian1979 I think Bekele could have broken a lot more records if there was better pacing for him. Even in his 5000m WR the pace was all over the place. He had to sprint at the end which means he had more left in the tank. Sub 12:30 5k was very possible for Haile, komen and Bekele
Kipngeno Kilel At about 12;30, Haile still has a 30m gap or more with the third guy. At the finishing point, that gap is narrowed to about 10m. That's what i meant he has slowed down.

Very true, I believe if haille had any kick left in him to challenge komen on the final 200, the world record would have been broken that night..

3000m wr of komen and 10000m of bekele are the hardest world records to beat in all the atheletics races
10000m wr set by bekele in 2009 / time 26:17:53. I guess 3000m wr by Komen is the hardest to beat. Cheers.

Haile was still hurting from the Atlanta Olympics 10,000 victory as per I read in a Runners World magazine article.
