  • I did the unmentionable thing and used scissors to cut my crochet project, and you'll be surprised to see how great it worked! Watch to see why I did it and how easy it was and then of course, how great it turned out! Would you ever try this?

    There's an easier way!
    Just use a large sewing up needle and run a piece of spare yarn through the stitches, then cut and remove the green in this case, section not wanted, then you can easily pick up the stitches from the thread without worrying about dropping them, or twisting them, simply pull out the spare once you're at the other end, voilá
    Just the way I do it......enjoy xx

      I was gonna mention this. A sewing needle has to be easier. Thanks!

      Would this work for a ribbed band (fphdc bphdc) ?

    • @DevonKaren
      @DevonKaren ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sueburns5513 I think it would, you'll just have to be watchful for the direction of the stitches when you pick them up x

    This tip could be quite handy. Thanks for sharing! I think the outcome looks great and if you put a border on the blanket, nobody but you would know the difference (unless you tell everyone else).

    I like your as-you-go approach vs the lifeline. Your initial 5 or 6 stitches look different than the majority, and I couldn't figure out why. It's almost like they're turned under.

    any idea on how to do this the other way? like going down? like if you have to cut an opening for a cardigan?

    • @SweetPotato3
      @SweetPotato3  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh boy, I’m sorry but I don’t. Going down the rows would result in cutting multiple times in one stitch and I’m afraid that would just unravel in too many places to be able to catch the all the loops. If I ever try it, I’ll definitely record it 😆

    Could I do this even in vertical? like through black - dark gray - light gray in a vertical line? Cause I made a blanket but it's too wide

    • @shyanha
      @shyanha 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a different way to do vertical, and I'm Trying to find that video. It's called "steek" or "steeking" but it's very difficult to sort out the knitting results because knitters use a crochet hook to steek. They purposely knit a large piece, then "steek" it down the front (for cardigans, for example) and then cut right down the middle to separate the pieces. Crochet isn't a cut and dry, so it's not done often. I also think it's knit a bit differently in order to prep for steeking.
      I found Brianna K's video: e0aENBmoNUg (pop that in after the "v=" in your address bar since YT won't allow video links), but she locks the how to behind her course. She's a knitter who is applying knitting techniques to crochet, and she's Brilliant about it; however, not everyone can part with $50 just for steeking lessons (though you'd get far more than that, I'm not kidding about the cool things she's figured out).
      Maybe with knowing it's called "steek" you can help me search for a video or instructions. :)
      Here are the things I've found so far: A video where a gal cut her blanket, but the video doesn't show the cutting process (Maartje Yarn & Other Treasures). 😢 I do have one web site, but again, links. If you search the term "how-to-steek-in-crochet-work" look for a result for lilleystitches. There's a question posed on Gransnet about steeking crochet, and knitters are saying they're scared enough to steek knit and can't imagine trying to do it in crochet. Ugh! lindadeancrochet is a site that has a vertical demonstration, but it's limited. Most people just use a sewing machine and zig zag stitch or they wantonly cut and turn the fraying into fringe. The DIY Journalist on YT has a crochet anatomy video that explains what you're looking at when considering cutting (where the top of stitches actually are). Ravebuddies on Tik Tok (I was desperate!) shows cutting a long piece of rib stitch. "Cutting crochet vertically" got some results, but with diminishing returns on content worth - mostly Tik Tok with "follow for part 2" but I don't use Tik Tok (maybe you do). I hope something in there turns out useful.

    please do you think i could do this with a project made out of granny stitches? I made a shirt for my boyfriend that took me monthssss and it turned out too long. It's made out of granny stiches entirely and it's unfroggable. please help

    • @christinen9101
      @christinen9101 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am sure you could! If it were me, I would work up a small sample using the granny square stitch and try it. That way you can make sure it works before you try it on his shirt.

    I have a crochet top with huge bell shape sleeves that I hate…very long and uncomfortable. I wonder if I could use this tip to cut them off. I didn’t do the top myself, though….

    will this work if we do it vertically too?

    • @SweetPotato3
      @SweetPotato3  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No! Don't cut any crochet vertically. The stitches running vertical carry the yarn from one row to the next row. If you cut that yarn it will unravel your project.
