I just finished crocheting the main body of a baby afghan and have the same problem as you did. I actually already thought about cutting the edges to straighten them out. I'm also a knitter and have done the process of steeking mentioned in one of the comments. I think I'm going to lay out the afghan and mark it so the sides are straight, stitch down the marked lined, then cut off the excess on the outside of the stitched line. Then I'll crochet a cute border. Keep your fingers crossed!
I’ve actually cut up the center of a sweater I’d just finished knitting. An old Scandinavian technique referred to as a steel. This was straight out of one of my Elizabeth Zimmerman books. Mark the center and stitch a row of tight machine stitches down both sides of the marked line. Then, pick up your good, sharp, dressmaking, shears, hold your breath, and cut right up that center line. Then you need to sit down for a bit to recover and ask yourself, what have I just done. But - it turned out fine. You just pick up stitches along the cut edge, just inside
Oh boy lol.I can imagine so funny but when u spend a ton of time on a project and r more than half way done u about cry if u unravel it.Ive had to do that before.Its sad and heartwrenching.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I used a pattern of stitches that were new to me & I couldn't figure out how to count them. I was using the Crystal Wave stitch. I tried to increase stitches as soon as I saw the error but it just didn't work. I AM going to FRANKENSTEIN my blanket with your suggestion... I'll modify mine to correct my error. I've been crocheting for approximately 40+ years so I think I can do this!
I know!!!! My heart nearly broke when I began cutting those yarn strands, but little by little, as I added the border, I saw that it would actually work to correct my mistake! And even though we see can see those rare flaws in our work, hopefully no one else will!!! Thanks for watching!!!

But in the moment, on this project, I thought I was good enough at crocheting that I didn't need to count. My mistake. Counting stitches might be a surer way to success. Another idea would be to measure after each row(?)
What a brave move! Counting doesn’t help me when I’m making a blanket with multiple textured patterns so I’m having the same effect. It’s all one color so maybe I can save it with an unorthodox border. Thanks again!
I noticed I was missing one of my waves. It’s about 10 stitches so I will increase to bring it back out and then fix the area when putting on a border. Most of the time the border helps to straighten the blanket. As long as the slant is not too far off. For smaller projects blocking also helps.

I think I’ll try to to a border of varied depths to conceal it as best as I can. Luckily, it is a variegated yarn.
This video appears to have been up for a long time and im just running across this and i cant say how much i appreciate you sharing what pro's or lifers would probably call taboo because as a continuous beginner or amateur it's reason like this "the issues" that prevent me from improving because i just give up. So thank you for giving me hope that now i know that all those half started projects may be salvageable yet. Thank you, thank you, thank you, wish there were more crafters willing to show how to fix things so that they are not a total loss. Super humble of you to share cant thank you enough

You pick up stitches along the edges and knit your button band and buttonhole band. The next time you try it there’s no panic or rapid heart beats. What fun.

Please help. This happened on the baby blanket I'm making for my daughter and our first born. How do i do this? How do i cut and seal. I'm using alpine stitch and it's taking a long long time. Can't bare to start again. Please help. 😥❤😊
I totally understand! Try doing what I did by carefully trimming the side. Then with a needle and thread, secure the edge with a sort of side ways slip stitch, where you overlap the stitches, starting from the point just before the cut and ending just after the cut. That way, the yarn doesn't unravel. Then follow up with a whip stitch with yarn, over that. If that makes any sense, I'm glad! If not, you brought up a great point, that might be better seen in a video than described in a written answer, and could be a great NEXT video! I hope this helped at least a little.

@@Blarisa If you go ahead with the border, you could start with a narrow border and make it wider or narrower in those areas that need building up to make the blanket square. Then add your decorative border on top of that. Hopefully that'll help! Thanks!
For this blanket, I made up my own stitch pattern (and color design) after watching some "stripey crochet blanket" videos. Nothing too complicated and pretty simple. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
