  • Hatching brine shrimp has never been easier! In this video I will show the quickest and simplest way to go from brine shrimp eggs to live brine shrimp that your fish will love. I’ll explain how to use a brine shrimp hatchery and show you some things to avoid so you don’t end up with a leaky mess in your home.
    Live brine shrimp make a great addition to the menu for every fish keeper. Freshwater fish and saltwater fish both love a fresh hatch of brine shrimp as a tasty treat. Baby brine shrimp in particular are quickly gobbled up by picky fish such as mandarin dragonets. Hatching brine shrimp also comes in handy for feeding your fry if you are breeding fish. Live brine shrimp have the most nutritional value for feeding your fish when they are first hatched, however raising brine shrimp into adults has its perks too. Adult brine shrimp can be fed a variety of foods to improve their nutritional value. The process is known as “gut loading” and it may sound a bit brutal, but it just means letting your adult brine shrimp feast on something like live phytoplankton or spirulina powder before using them. We also have a great video on culturing phyto that your brine shrimp will love, here is the link • Phyto Culture - Learn ...
    If you are looking to just hatch brine shrimp to feed your fish, raise brine shrimp into a sustainable population or just want some pet sea monkeys, this video should help.

    I just made a clear wine bottle hatchery, I used a diamond tile saw to cut off the bottom, sanded the bottle on bench sander with fine grit,
    Made a simple wooden pedestal stand, with a wine cork and hard clear bubble tubing formed to come out of the neck . It looks beautiful.
    I was hoping it would be quieter then the 2 liter bottle and IT IS! So quiet you don't even notice it, and it cleans up easy.
    P.S. I made a homemade phonograph player out of copper and was building all kinds of speakers and thought this 2 liter is also a good noisy speaker when bubbling.

    Does it need to have a airpump. and airline tubing? Some people don't use those things

      No they don’t they just clump up and sink when they come alive and will hatch in no time :)

    I take it from the video I need to provide a heater environment to ensure hatchery water temperature matches my tropical aquarium water temperature. When you maintain an ongoing hatchery, what do you use for food?

    • @HackersReef
      @HackersReef  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will hatch at just about any temp around or above 68F. Higher temps will make them grow faster, but they are pretty adaptable. You can feed them TINY amounts of Spirulina every few days. Some people also suggest yeast. However, Spirulina powder will add to their nutritional value if they are fed to your fish shortly after consuming the Spirulina, aka gut "loading". Good luck and thanks for the questions!

    TO THE WISE: Wrap Plumber's Teflon tape around the bottle screw threads before screwing bottle into base to prevent leaking. If you do this then I can personally recommend the Hatchery kit to anyone.

      Thanks for the comment. I have personally never had a leak as long as the o-ring was correctly seated in the basw. However, a little Teflon tape could definitely help if the bottle threads are not in great condition.

    You don't need to dechlorinate the water, testing show it actually helps break down the shells and hatch them quicker. And chlorine will gas off before shrimp hatch

    You can (should ?) use tap water instead of dechlorinated water. (Chlorine helps eggs to hatch)

    How do i transfer the shrimp after they hatch do i just pour the water into my tank?

    • @liltalent2381
      @liltalent2381 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DeVito410 NO! The water is salty and nasty which could hurt your fish. Get a net and scoop out the intended amount.
      Hope this helped

    Hello ,... watching from Kentucky. I’m just going to use these to feed my Guppies. “ Fancy Tail Guppy’s “ If I keep the shrimp until Adults ,...what would I feed them with and how long will they live. ? Thank you my friend

    • @kaylavolk8533
      @kaylavolk8533 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can live a long time but they can also get relatively big

    • @SLynch007
      @SLynch007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You feed them powdered spirulina (just a little) and they should do fine. When they grow to adulthood, put some moss balls and plants so they can hide in it, and they'll much on that too.

    You can hatch brine shrimp easily without aeroator, etc. Just place them in a wide shallow bow in salt water and leave for 1 or 2 days. They will hatch at room temperature. Keep in a north facing window bay.

    Don't dechlorinate the water. The chlorine helps dissolve the egg casing.
