I enjoy gua sha as a relaxing ritual and face massage. I do find it eases some of the tension I can carry in my face muscles and reduces puffiness. I think the more mind blowing results that people see probably are as a result of putting more time and effort into their skin care over all, rather than the gua sha itself. I am a massage therapist, and I am trained in gua sha. Thank you so much for addressing this ridiculous trend of using it on the face. Gua sha is great for muscles, though. Keep up the good work of educating us all. 🙂
@@chickenwithlaserlegs1485 yes! It is amazing for hypertonic muscles; it is one of the only things that give me relief in my upper back. But be warned, it can cause some seriously alarming-looking bruises, even though they don't hurt.
Yes, you can have hypertonic face muscles, but the skin and other tissues on the face is much more delicate than, say, on the back. Even the facial muscles are very small, and gua sha works best on larger muscles. If I were trying to release hypertonic muscles in the face, I would likely use trigger point therapy, pin and stretch techniques or simply light to medium Swedish strokes.
I'm a chronic clencher and my jaw is always tensed, when I wakeup I always have swelled face, and guasha really helps release the tense on my face and decreases the swelling. So I can definitely say it's effective in this case.
Try electrolysis, been doing it for really a year for my chin because of pcos n so far can see a huge significant of changes. Once the hair is gone it doesn't come back.
The second video reminds me of a gold rule that my dermatologist once told me and that I follow like law: home-use products should NEVER burn and not even tingle. I had bad acne and due to many online videos I assumed that the burning from my treatment (given by my dermatologist) was normal (though it hurted like hell), but the acne worsened. Went again and the treatment was too strong for me (he didn't know because I never told him it burned assuming it wasn't relevant). Because of that misinformation from the internet I completely disbalanced (and kinda chemicaly burned) my skin, and took me two years to recover.
Yeah but that product from the ordinary is pretty strong and if you’re not used to it it may tingle a bit but it’s still a good product to use if you respect the indications. First time I used it for only 6 minutes as it was tingling a bit and second time I increased to 8 minutes with less discomfort. Also I don’t use it more than once a week and it’s a really good product for exfoliation your skin.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid does burn. At home or at the salon. Retinol for anti aging and acne also will irritate and feel worse before it feels better. Yes there’s misinformation that’s why it’s crucial to find at least 6-10 resources for the info. You’ll figure out what’s up when you watch more than one video.
I use gua sha because I work for the human version of Sauron and she stresses me out so much that I clench my jaw all day. I always make sure to apply a facial oil first and use gentle movements toward the lymphatics. It seems to help with the muscle tension in my face and the back of my neck.
I found out a TH-cam channel ran by physiotherapists and I learned lots of places to touch and massage your face in order to relax your jaw. Just pressing under your ear lobe, where the low jaw starts, is superpainful but after keeping the pressure there the pain diminished and I felt relaxed. Anyway, after 3 years with a clenched jaw I bought a "férula de descarga" (no idea of the name in English) usually, people use it while sleeping but when I am home I wear it whenever I am not eating. Life changer!
So I read that chilling the tools can actually cause problems with how the drainage works because of the sudden introduction of cold to the skin, but I'm not an expert. Still feels heavenly though.
A dermatologist told me about ice to help with my acne years ago and it was the best piece of advice and help I got with my acne mainly I believe because it decreases inflammation. For me it was a complete gamechanger
@@firmakurtcedrickd.5706 it works to decrease inflammation, the clogged pore will still be there just not as red, hot, and burning. Any type of cold applied to your face can also reduce the swelling. It’s something you would have to do every day or twice a day, but it would never get rid of your acne.
For those who pan facial guasha and write it off, i would love to share that my experience with it has been really good. My water retention went down and the lymphatic drainage has give my overall appearance better contour at the jaw line. My dark eye circles also improved and because you tackle acupressure points for your organs on the face, it’s good for your health too. My face has been glowing after I started doing facial guasha daily.
That's been my experience. It helps with the sinus pressure and subsequent drainage from using it. I literally be spitting loogies once I start sweeping towards past my jaw. Helps my puffiness!
I do body gua sha in my practice (I am Chinese medicine practitioner) to help with stiff/painful muscles and blocked channels. Facial gua sha as we see it today, is a modern trend and the claims are ridiculous haha! Gentle gua sha on the face stimulates the circulation and may improve collagen production. And that's that. Great videos guys! Keep them coming x
This is what I love about medical TH-cam, cause the standard Caribbean female, such as myself, would have no idea. We'd see it as a weird named trend from the internet. I personally wish the misinformation would stop, because if these things are advocated then I'd advocate the really products/ service
Oh lawdy. I have been doing laser hair removal for a few months and excuse my language but THAT SHIT HURTS. I have pcos and more thicker hair so everyone is going to have a different experience but it is so worth it. I don't have to worry about shaving all the time and ingrown hairs anymore. It feels so freeing to not have to waste time shaving. You do have to shave before each session though.
I LOVE that y’all don’t act “greater than thou” like you’re very “if it works for you” My dermatologist is like this too, she for sure has guided me towards the right product too.
I got one for free with Birchbox (jade roller too). I like the gua shua tool in the morning to depuff and promote lymph drainage, with a serum to lubricate.
Would love to see a video that covers hair removal and the impacts on the skin. It’s often difficult to know if my skin is irritated from hair removal or not and what is worth investing in to protect my skin, but keeping it smooth.
I will say gua sha has been so beneficial to my skin, and knowing where it comes from. I keep that mindset that it’s more for healing vs treating appearance (beauty). No it won’t change ur bone structure (something needed by cosmetic surgery) but it’s definitely beneficial to the skin & it’s always in my skincare routine.
I love it and for sure helps with puffiness, lymphatic drainage, waking up my skin and waking up in general, it’s relaxing and I feel and look more rejuvenated. It even helped clear my acne and break up scars so I have nothing but good to say.
The ordinary peeling solution literally says on the box: "don't leave on the skin for more than 10 minutes". This random guy: "Okay, so I'm going to leave this on for an hour, see ya!". READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM, it's not so hard.
Honestly that’s probably the main cause behind the majority of TO’s negative reviews. For some reason people just cannot. Follow. Instructions! Which is a really bad thing when you’re working with concentrated anything
Ikr. The peel is supposed to PEEL. Not to penetrate like wtf? It’s meant to exfoliate the outermost layer. Even a non skincare expert can see the logic in that????
As a person who was born with a genetically malfunctioning lymphatic system, I learned to do effleurage on myself from head to toe, and give my face a light lymphatic massage each night and morning when I apply my serums and moisturizer. It helps me a great deal.
They weren't disparaging effleurage though. They were just pointing out that massaging your face isn't going to reduce wrinkles or tighten your pores or any other TikTok claims.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 34 years ago. So I have struggled with mild-to-moderate facial hair most of my adult life. I recently started using a tinkle razor and I absolutely love it. My makeup has never been so smooth. Going to watch your video now on how to shave like a dermatologist. I figure I can always improve my technique.
@@grazsts3005 I have not. I have friends that have done it with not much success. I am 52 years old and my facial hair is starting to grow in very pale. My understanding is the hair must be dark for the lasers to be effective.
I love them too! I used to do threading but now I just use the tinkle razors on my mustache and sides of face. Unfortunately if I have acne I can’t do it because it does irritate.
Tinkle razors (and the like) changed my skin! Takes off the peach fuss and exfoliates skin -thus making skincare perform @ a higher level. The peach fuzz absolutely DOES NOT come in thicker or darker!
Can I use a normal razer without gel or anything like that on the razer it's self or should I stick with Tinkle razer? I'm going to start doing this, but I don't want to cut myself. Lol. Would it be easier or harder with a normal razer? Thank you. Oh, and do I use anything else on the skin before I shave? I know nothing like shaving gel, but face wash or just dry skin? From what I’ve learned about micro needling and dermarolling, you really shouldn’t put anything on your face for hours after you do it! Especially not a peeling product! I usually do it at night before bed, then wash my face in the morning and apply a gentle moisturizer. Save the fancy serums and peelers for a couple of days later!
I love my Tinkle razors! I'm 65 and I have had some peach fuzz growth due to changing hormones...I think. It takes a little practice and there is definitely a specific technique or they just won't work. But Tinkle are the best I've tried and it's not difficult. I have never cut myself with this razor and I don't believe that my hair grows back in thicker. I love the smooth look and feeling it leaves.

I have severe eczema, so ice on flare ups help so much.. especially right after a shower. I have an ice pack next to my bed, just in case I scratch while sleeping..
Try Aloe Vera! It dries really bad, but it will dry up your flare ups that are red! Which are the most itchy! It minimized my biggest flare up a while ago since I was going through steroid withdrawal. Straight up aloe Vera plant! Rub the inside of the plant on your skin, let it dry. Sleep and shower it off the next day and moisturize! Do it for days! Maybe even twice a day.
If I'm not mistaken from what I learned, hyaluronic helps draw moisture so it can probably help with your eczema. Nonetheless, still follow what your doctor advices
Gua Sha on your face should be used in between firm and gentle always with oil (never pull the skin) and yes it has improved my skin and toned up my face. No it cannot change your nose or jaw shape and you can use common-garden spoons as well. Used in conjunction with facail massage, exercise and yoga, it improved my jowls and sagging skin! There is something in it.
But it does help you reduce dark circles, double chin, helps you having a sharper jawline or lift your face if used correctly and always with oil as you said, right?
@@user-ze8bm3mz4d yes but dark cirles could be due to simple genes or problems with your adrenal glands. Have you been under a lot of stress for quite a while? I loved the talk of microneedling at 5:20 because it really clearly states why it isn't a recommended treatment. If u don't properly prepare, and treat yourself you can severely mess up your skin. That's why it's not recommended, is because we cannot assume everyone will research it and act in an conservative manner. Respect for keeping it real, but also highlighting one of the most important realizations I've come to in the skincare world.

Thank you for respecting gua sha as a traditional health practice! Those beauty claims are absolutely outrageous but gua sha is super effective for many other things, like heat stroke. You also don't have to necessarily use so much force that you bruise the skin for it to be effective.
You guys are just great. I’ve had so many question about skin care. been trying to do research on products before I buy them but there are so many reviews it’s really hard to know what’s what! I haven't changed anything in my skincare routine except I started incorporating ice twice a day (morning & evening) a couple of months ago so I'm confident to say that it worked! My skin doesn't get oily during the day AT ALL like it used to and the pores on my cheeks have visibly shrunken. Also, apart from washing my face with cold water, ice in the morning serves as my coffee so to say, it wakes me up especially when I use it behind my ears. Furthermore, it also helps my skin to better absorb products I put on after treating it with ice. Personally, I find it a nice addition to my skincare routine and I don't feel as great when I skip it.

This doesn’t have to do with mental illness. It has to do with lack of wisdom. Being a sufferer of mental illness and being a sufferer of lack of wisdom, these things are not one in the same trait. There is a difference.
Gua sha helped me with radiance in my skin (although any face massage did that, maybe by helping absorption?) but mostly it helped with my very bad water retention from pregnancy. Especially during summer (my son was born in late July), it also felt so good to have a cold stone against my skin! But it never changed the shape of my face or whatever (I also tried massage, yoga, jade roller, and many others, nothing helped).

@@mervyn3797 according to our doctors here retinoids are great for several skin problems, my intention was for it to look like magical twinkles around the word :)

I just discovered derma-planing. I never thought I needed it since I have naturally fine, blonde body and peach fuzz. But then I started and it removed so much fuzz, cleaned up my brows, and got rid of so much dead skin. I only do it once a week and my skin looks great. Make sure to avoid any acne or wounds though.
I use the tinkle razor for some fine detail work (not whole face). My husband asked why were they called tinkle and not single blade razors, I told him because if you slip with it, you tinkle a little.
YESSS T_T One time, I went to a buddhist temple close to my home and the monk asked me if I wanted to try it because I had achy shoulders. BRUH, my shoulder was black by the time I left. Hahahaha
Dermarolling works well for hair loss, it stimulates follicles, though definitely don't drag and use 1-1.5mm depth, also don't use a roller at all -- use a pen/stamp module because than it doesn't 'roll' aka drag.
I am a Black Female and in our culture our skin is way different. Can you do a video about 2 things I have these dark circles on my cheeks that I have no idea where they came from. Also have some decent melanin and believe it or not, human skin is human skin and individual genetics vary, even within the same family. All the things that would help any human with a skin type similar to yours would help yours as well. So, oily, combo/oily, combo/dry or dry, and acne, rosacea, irritated, sensitive or normal. As for under eye, could be leaking capillaries or excess melanin. Either way, not a whole lot to do about it.
😊 here's a cheap way: do the korean double cleanse thingy. every day especially before bed. also, make yourself some fenugreek or flax gel. and apply it under your moisturizer. it looks gross (like snot), but lemme tell ya', it does everything. grows hair, removes dark spots, tightens wrinkles, heals cuts. you name it. keep up the cleansing routine, use the slimy gel, and moisturize. you're skin will improve in a week. maybe less. promise.💫
My hack for back acne is to use a BHA/AHA toner in a spray bottle and just spray it on my back. For hygenic/preservation reasons I only use pre-packaged one (e.g. COSRX has one in a spray bottle) or use a new empty bottle that I use only for that product. It also works quite nice for the scalp.
Depends on the acid you use, I guess. If you use BHA, you'd address more the oil control. AHA will work more for exfoliation, so dandruff or weak hair growth would be the main need.
But, that’s something I’ve yet to figure out. My hubs and I are on opposite schedules. How am I gonna get moisturizer on my upper back?! That’s where I’m most dry and itchy.
I no longer buy skincare products or tools without watching your videos first. I love this channel, thank you so much for giving us such great content and help FOR FREE ❤
I've always assumed that the reason hair looked darker when it grows in after shaving was the squared off nature like you said, but also, especially if you haven't shaved before / don't do it often, the hair on your skin has seen plenty of UV and gets naturally bleached. Then the regrowth comes in and is the colour it should be prior to being bombarded with UV for, in many cases, years and years. I remember not liking my arm hair when I started growing more of it around puberty, but now you can barely see it unless it's casting shadows on my skin or you're up close. Meanwhile, the hair on my lower legs, where I shave, grows in markedly darker than above the knee. I have a friend with Hungarian roots and her body hair was really dark when we were teenagers. Now though, it's just a light brown and goes great with her skin tone. I've never been a fastidious sunblock user but for people who are using sunblock often it might also affect the fading of body hair.
A clean, natural bristle body brush is great for applying to the back. It's also useful for physical exfoliation on knees and legs or anywhere if you're gentle
Yay!! I am so glad that face shaving is ok! I love doing it and I love the results I get from using it. I limit shaving to once every 2 weeks just because I use acid exfoliant and stuff on my face every other day and mandelic acid exfoliant on the other days every other day. So its just a little too much to be adding shaving multiple times a week to the mix.
The second video makes me shiver... Facial gua sha is my go to whenever I have a headache. I don't know why, but I feel so much better after using it. I incorporate it in my regular skincare routine because I feel so amazing after using it
Head, brow and sinus massage is extremely helpful when suffering headaches or migraines. It can help decrease a high blood pressure and stimulate blood flow which helps with relaxation and reduce pain. Using an essential oil, mixed in a carrier oil, can also help. I love lavender because I find it calming but many people also like peppermint or other mint because it can be relaxing but also give a little stimulating effect which many enjoy.
I do Gua Sha on my hubby and he loves it. But I acknowledge that it's only for puffiness and lymphatic drainage. I put the tools in the freezer so they help depuff and an oil for which the tools can work into the skin. His face is always brighter the next day.

Also I don’t use it more than once a week and it’s a really good product for exfoliation your skin.
it happened to me when I used Benzoyl Peroxide on my face.
How could you not complain immediately
The microneedling before the peel...Ooh man.
I use gua sha because I work for the human version of Sauron and she stresses me out so much that I clench my jaw all day. I always make sure to apply a facial oil first and use gentle movements toward the lymphatics. It seems to help with the muscle tension in my face and the back of my neck.
I really like that phrase, "female version of Sauron". How is it going in Mordor? I hope one day you will get back on her!
This is my favorite comment of all times. On a more serious note I hope you have found a better boss since!
Please leave Mordor. I just did. It's worth it!
Human version of sauron🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dr. Maxfield has to share how he keeps his face so smooth while shaved for men out there, he has clearly mastered his skin care routine!
Right.
I like to use a cooled guacha tool to apply my morning serum. Just because it feels nice, and helps wake me up. 😃
It's like me and my face brush, do I need a vibrating pink brush on my face every day? Not really, but it makes me happy.

Eat vegan to reduce acne.
A chilled face mask would have the same effect and probably better for your skin too :)
so ice really works?
@@firmakurtcedrickd.5706 it works to decrease inflammation, the clogged pore will still be there just not as red, hot, and burning. Any type of cold applied to your face can also reduce the swelling. Do you put ice directly on your face?
For those who pan facial guasha and write it off, i would love to share that my experience with it has been really good. My water retention went down and the lymphatic drainage has give my overall appearance better contour at the jaw line. My dark eye circles also improved and because you tackle acupressure points for your organs on the face, it’s good for your health too. My face has been glowing after I started doing facial guasha daily.
Hi can u tell me more abt how you do gua sha at eye area? I've been doing gua sha only at my jaw and would love to try for my eyes area as well
That's been my experience.

And that's that.

hi doc! Can you guys please also talk about lasers and other option for hair removal
Yes please!!
Dr Davin Lim has a number of videos on lasers. Dr Vanita Rattan, Dr Dray, Dr Alexis Stephens also have videos on it.
Can you please also talk about lasers in general? For like anti aging and sun damage and acne etc?
I’m curious about long term effects. Is this something that may cause cancer? Has this been studied?
I LOVE that y’all don’t act “greater than thou” like you’re very “if it works for you”
My dermatologist is like this too, she for sure has guided me towards the right product too.
These videos have definitely stopped me from buying unnecessary products. I had my eye on the Gua Sha tool and I’m happy I came across this video 🙌🏼

Have you tried the tweezerman hair removal tool ?
Yep am especially curious about sugaring
I will say gua sha has been so beneficial to my skin, and knowing where it comes from. I keep that mindset that it’s more for healing vs treating appearance (beauty). No it won’t change ur bone structure (something needed by cosmetic surgery) but it’s definitely beneficial to the skin & it’s always in my skincare routine.
I love it and for sure helps with puffiness, lymphatic drainage, waking up my skin and waking up in general, it’s relaxing and I feel and look more rejuvenated. It even helped clear my acne and break up scars so I have nothing but good to say.

Dr. Maxfield doing his “thinking man” face and Dr. Shah glancing over to take it in 😂😂
A clean, natural bristle body brush is great for applying to the back.
I incorporate it in my regular skincare routine because I feel so amazing after using it
Which one do I use and like ?
I'm afraid I don't understand. Are you asking me to recommend what type of gua sha tool?
When he said he was leaving the mask on for an hour I gasped so loud my next-door neighbors probably heard me
Dr Shah and Dr Maxfield is my life lol. I love them, who wouldn’t. Keep doing the vids pls.
God I am SOOO glad you approve of dermaplaning / shaving the face because it’s honestly changed my life lol
'outrageous' 'rubbish' all with a sweet smile on his face, i love Dr Shah 😂❤️
Phew! Almost thought I would have to ditch using my Tinkle Razors! That’s what you call a “Close Shave” 😜
BAHAHAHA
Hahahhaha Pun intended 😉
Do your hairs grow back stubly? My fear with using these products are not the regrowth but the stubble ?
@@blaredo its just not the soft end of the hair as it was before but its nothing compared to mens stuble. so yes feels a bit different but not too bad.i do it once a week typically but its worth it having super soft skin and it looks way more glowy.
@@GiuaSuki twinkle are amazing!! Tried and true and i get mine off Amazon. 3 packs for less than $10 i believe
LOVE how Dr. Maxfield looks at Dr. Shah. It fills my heart.
