I love your videos! Could you talk about lifestyle choices for good skincare sometime? It may seem basic and simple, but hearing about good nutrition, "face yoga", hydration, makeup product choices, routines, etc. from experts would really help!
Thank you, guys! My ingrown hairs on my legs sometimes just drive me nuts; they are sooo painful! I'll start using your advice straight away and hope it will help me! Can you please make a video on how to treat melasma? I feel like you are among the youtubers that can be really trusted and who give advice based on solid research, and not just personal opinions.
I found using a safety razor with titanium coated razors helped get rid of any skin irritation. I buy razors from feather they're really cheap and extremely sharp. Never cut my face with them when it's in my safety razor handle, but have learned to he very careful handling them when replacing it. I've cut my fingers just grabbing them. Used it to shave some body parts before and it works but you have to be careful not to cut the skin sometimes since it's always easy angels like your face is.
OMG! I’ve been trying to figure out the proper steps to apply products after shaving for almost a year now!!! I have to line up my beard tomorrow and can finally try out a solid plan that actually makes sense! Thank you!
used to have massive irritation issues with razor burn, razor bumps and ingrown hairs. I switched to an old fashioned single blade safety razor and started dry brushing and I don't have any of those problems anymore.
So.. I can't recommend Dollar Shave Club's Executive razor enough (or w/e the 5 blade boy is named). I am a cis woman that grows the same density and thickness of facial hair as a man. Well, it WAS that bad, but I'm getting laser hair removal currently (which I 100% recommend to anyone struggling with unwanted hair). Anyway, I have been shaving my face, neck and stache area for years. That is the only razor that provides me with THE closest shave (undetectable hair). Gillette is good too, but it's more expensive. I'm also happy to learn that I taught myself the best recommended routine for shaving apparently based on what you guys said. I kind of had to though.. I get major, major, MAJORLY bad ingrown hairs on my neck and chin. So I gentle cleanse, massage my sensitive skin shaving cream or gel into my face, let it sit a little, shave with and against the grain for maximum closeness, exfoliate with a gentle chemical exfoliator and follow up after shower with niacinamide + my other skincare stuff. Been going well since I started following that routine. I also change my razor every few weeks considering how many areas I shave. If you want to leave the blade in the shower, at LEAST pat it on your towel gently and hang it on something. Never let it sit on the side of your tub or whatever. For any other women growing facial hair, I hope this helps you. I took me a long time to figure out what worked best for me, but we're finally there!
You two are so great 😁 Anyone willing to go on TH-cam and tell people they should shave with the grain deserves 🙌🏻👏🏻 I’m 💯 sure 0 of my clients have followed that suggestion despite receiving adequate education surrounding the topic!
Double edge safety razor is what I use. You can literally buy a box of 100 blades from Gillette for like $10 and simply replace the blade each and every time you shave so no risk of infection from the blade and always brilliant performance
I really enjoy learning from your videos! I have always struggled with my skin, and now I am very committed to my skin care. Could you please make a video about acne scars, both old and new, the Dos and the Don’ts? 🙏
Gillette Skinguard is definitely the best cartridge for me on sensitive skin but after the second shave I feel it's wearing out and causes irritation. I have thick hair on my face though. I just switched to double edge razors and along with that, learned of shaving soaps with shave brushes, GAME CHANGER!! Goodfellas Smile soap (tons of good brands) and Simpson T3 brush made the difference.
Hey docs. I just used the Gillette shaver you recommended and it was the bomb. I normally use the Bevel straight edge razor (which has helped tremendously) but the Gillette shaver felt more agile and smooth. I also got the acne cleanser you mentioned and I like it, too. I don’t have an acne issue, but I like the way it made my face feel. Thank you!
Shower to steam the face. Splash cold water on face. Brush on shaving cream. Use safety razor with the grain two passes. Run alum Stone after rinsing. Rinse again and then pat dry and apply serums and moisturizer
Great video! I wish you commented about using shaving brush and hard fat-based soaps. My shaving experience greatly improved after using a double edge razor, shaving brush, and fat based hand-poured soap.
I didnt think much of this video but I clicked on it because I love your guys vibes and I actually learned a lot ! lol thank you two so much for sharing this info! :)
Thank you guys so much for making this clear and concise content! It's great for answering my questions that I would normally have to go to a derm to ask. Could you guys make a video regarding fading body scars as well as body skincare? Thanks so much
Electric hair liners are the best thing for me and a lot of black men. Razors cut too close causing folliculitis. I also brush my facial hair to keep it growing straight and not into the skin. The last best thing I do use a skin care routine for oil, diet, and cell turnover. I was missing that last step for over a decade until now.
So despite applying all the recommended steps in the correct order (even incorporating cera ve SA) according to a diff video you guys made about skin bumps, & despite having naturally low-maintenance good skin and very fine body hair I still suffered from these tiny red dots post-shave. I’m still solving the issue, but now seeing this it’s making so much sense: I used that same Gillette razor my whole life having no issues and a couple years back I was gifted a Harry’s razor (never has my skin been so terrible) swapped to ‘Billie brand’ which instantly showed some relief but not completely. Perhaps I need to just swap back to my tried and true Gillette lol.
Please do a video on which order to layer serums & for which products a damp face is a better canvas. I think many of us are interested in products from The Ordinary and Inkey List. With so many different products in those and other skincare lines, I feel like I cannot squeeze every serum into an AM & a PM routine and would also like to know which products would have some benefit even if not used daily. So, if you do a layering video, please include how to rotate products whether every other day, 2-3X week and which serums to use together on alternating days.
Careful -- castor oil clogged my tear ducts and I ended up at the eye doc, two rounds of exfoliating eye pads, still have problems!! So I still use a little castor oil on my brows at night, but only Latisse or GrandeLash serum on eyelashes.
Gillette SkinGuard is great, i found the Razor using half a DE ( Double Edge ) blade called The Twig from Leaf Shave very good head pivot as well and they are relative cheaper the blades, by the way i´m from Denmark here prices are insane on shaving blades regardless i know DE blades in THE USA are cheaper , yes THE TWIG is expensive but last you a life time. oh and the so call wet shave community says shave 3 steps 1. with the grain. 2. cross the grain 3. only if you REALLY want against the grain, i finde your video very good and informative....Thank you
Can Dr. Shah talk about caring for the skin underneath a beard? I'm not sure if I should be trying to put products onto the skin underneath my beard or if its just going to waste and getting absorbed by the hair
I have two questions. 1) I got rid of acne (not severe version) thanks to birth control. Is it likely that it will come back with full force if I stop using birth control or after pregnancy? 2) you and other dermatologist talk much about sun screen. I’ve used moisturizer with sun protection for many years. If I’m on vacation or if it’s summertime i use a special one for not getting sunburned. I wonder if, during the rest of the year, it’s enough to use moisturizer with sun screen once a day before using make up etc? It feels complicated to add more on during the day if I’m not actively stay in the sun. I live in Sweden and we don’t have many hours of sun most time of the year, but spring and summer are long with lots of daylight. I hope you understand my questions. Thank you for a great channel I’m already a big fan, it’s easy to understand and I love that you don’t insist people on using 283818383838 different products. Science always wins❤️
Thanks for the video guys! I wanted to share my aftershave tip, which is give an ice cube massage around my neck and chin. I tried too much with aftershave balms and stuff and I found out that an ice cube works really good to me.
Can you speak about when it’s best for someone to see an aesthetician vs dermatologist? Both offer similar skincare advice on social media, so what warrants a trip to the doc’s office for someone with milder skin conditions? Thanks!! :))
My mom is a dermatologist and I think a good general rule to go by is more cosmetic type stuff go to an aesthetician. Rashes, skin care, irritation, skin exams... go to a derm. Dermatologist obviously do cosmetic stuff as well but it’s usually more of the big guns like laser, Botox, high grade face peels... things like that.
Thank you. There are very few videos from dermatologists talking about shaving routines. Straight razors and DE safety razors work best for me. Cheers.
Ok so ... love your dermatologist perspective skin care vids and I love your take on shaving but I must say, I’m an old school barber who shaves men professionally and the whole idea for a shaving cream is NOT just “lubricant” for the skin; that’s only half of the story. While using a simple lubricant like hair conditioner is great for hair length that’s already short (I.e. areas that are already frequently shaved) it’s NOT good for longer hair. Traditional shave scream is meant to both lubricate skin AND lift(and sustain hair in lifted position) for the duration of the shave. It’s basically like when you see the barber pulling the skin taught to get a “closer” shave, the cream is pulling the hair taught to meet the razor at the perfect angle. Anywho just wanted to throw this out there! Take care of yourselves!!
I needed this information and it popped up for me! as I’ve been getting lots of irritation from shaving. Thank you for this! Will try some of these products
Hello! Great video! Could you do a video on waxing and threading.. i have many hormonal issues, so I constantly have to wax my whole face.. but it always irritates my skin.. whats the best way to prepare for this?
Hi Eleni, I just saw my dermatologist. The dermatologist said waxing is too harsh and rips layers of your skin off which causes more irritation than threading. I hope this helps.
After very careful product selection for my shaving, I discovered that my skin easily withstands everything I trhow at it, so I pick my products based on shaving performance and the fragrance I like the most.
I also use my conditioner to shave, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. It provides a slick surface, softens the hairs and much easier to use - apply to the whiskers when conditioning the hair and shave. Of all the shave creams/gels that I tried, I found Clinique's shave gel the best followed closely by Aveeno's shave gel mentioned in your videos. I don't have sensitive skin and use Equate three-blade razors from Walmart and can use them for weeks.
Not saying you should do this but have a look at shaving soaps that you lather up. They can last for ever and are very slick. I find that the old traditional safety razor offers a very clean shave and is very safe as well and if only I had figured that out earlier it would have saved me years of agony.
Dear Doctors, thank you for this video. I wish you’d make a video for threading and hair removal .. face particularly. Will you please guide on post threading care usage of acids/actives.
Don’t forget to rinse razor often while shaving face. It really helps to get a better shave. And another option for shaving cream is Paula’s Choice. It’s perfect. Enjoy your informative videos. Thanks

Ladies...just a tip I learned by accident (lol): Use a men's razor! (Quality one like mentioned). I used my bf's razor on a trip bc I forgot mine & was blown away by how much better it worked! Exact brand/ same type (just mine the women's version.) I believe since theirs is made & primarily used on the face, the blades are better quality (at least sharper, imo). All I know is my shave (even time btwn needing to) def improved when I switched & started using the men's. *Of course, don't use/share your spouse or bfs tho like I did the 1st time tho - def get your own!😄😉 Hope maybe this is helpful to someone.✌
Yeah, right !? I think maybe because men hair is much more thicker! When I saw the same type of blade in big pack I always choose razor for men instead women! :D

"soothing" "sensitive skin" puts in fragrance
cry. i'm allergic to like everything.
i use conditioner lol. glad you mentioned that you do too.
Damn I commented a shaving vid would be appreciated and bam here we go
Same!
Same! Pretty cool
The Cerave renewing SA wash (Smoothing SA Wash here in Ireland) is absolutely amazing at preventing ingrown hairs!
Safety razors have a very small blade spacining meaning there is a small gap. It enable a very close shave with little to no skin abrasion.
Many people have found basically what you have. Yes, try double edged safety razors!
@@10floz30minutes that's what I was trying to describe.
Been shaving for years and never considered half of this. Super helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m exactly the same, and still looking for a good razor so will check out dollar shave club🙌🏻
You two are so great 😁 Anyone willing to go on TH-cam and tell people they should shave with the grain deserves 🙌🏻👏🏻 I’m 💯 sure 0 of my clients have followed that suggestion despite receiving adequate education surrounding the topic!
conditioners are perfect for this job!!!!!!!!!! i recommend it, give it a try
I used conditioner for a long time, the only reason I stopped was because I wanted to try new things. Conditioner is always there if I need it though.
Double edge safety razor is what I use. You can literally buy a box of 100 blades from Gillette for like $10 and simply replace the blade each and every time you shave so no risk of infection from the blade and always brilliant performance
Can you guys please make a video about scars, scar revision, mole scars pleaseee 🙊
ahhhh... you have too much wisdom I need to put it all in. It's a lot for one day but I was a super achiever over your videos today.
You should do a video on layering (unless you have already) and ALSO I'd love to see your thoughts on hair removal products and laser hair removal!
Great video! I wish you commented about using shaving brush and hard fat-based soaps. My shaving experience greatly improved after using a double edge razor, shaving brush, and fat based hand-poured soap.
till this moment, it's considered rude for Cera Ve if they did not reach out to you for sponsorship... 😂
I think dr shah has already been reached
Haha yes - was a huge supporter of cerave on my other platforms for a long time and they finally took notice and reached out 😂
@@Doctorly great for you! 😁 I have watched you in the cerave ig. 😁Regards from Chile!!
I love you guys! Yall teach simply but with excellence and yall are hilarious. Always making me laugh. Thanks much!!
I LOVE SEEN!! As a woman, I also use the conditioner to shave my legs!!
One can only dream of a man who looks at you the same way dr maxfield looks at dr shah lol. Very informative vid!
What?
Hey doctors your videos are very informative.. Can you please do a video on milia?
This is extremely helpful even to this day!
Awesome tips! I always wondered the proper way for dermaplaning at home!
Could you do a video on that please? :)
I just wanted to ask you guys, could you talk about eyelash growth and serums, does ingredients such as castor oil and petroleum actually grow them? 😊
This is a great comment. My beard is a decent length and I lose a lot of the product in my beard. It would be great to see a video on beard care
Make a video on Hair care (hair falls, hairloss )or scalp Care(itchy scalp) please
Esthetician’s can not diagnose things as much as dermatologist!
Thank you. There are very few videos from dermatologists talking about shaving routines. Straight razors and DE safety razors work best for me. Cheers.
Can you please do a video on cuticle care or on getting rid of flaky cuticles
Can't wait to try out the routine! I have soooo many skin issues and shaving is one of them!
Ok so ... love your dermatologist perspective skin care vids and I love your take on shaving but I must say, I’m an old school barber who shaves men professionally and the whole idea for a shaving cream is NOT just “lubricant” for the skin; that’s only half of the story.
Thank you very much Doctors! I just subscribed yesterday 😊 Loving the content so much- sharing with my 23yr old son👌
Can you please make a video like this on depilators/waxing?
I needed this information and it popped up for me! as I’ve been getting lots of irritation from shaving. Thank you for this! Will try some of these products
Hello! Great video! Could you do a video on waxing and threading.. i have many hormonal issues, so I constantly have to wax my whole face.. but it always irritates my skin.. whats the best way to prepare for this?
Not an expert... But have you considered sugar wax (cold one)
@@saeeajri5970 Yes!! It was effective for my eyebrows, however, I have thick hair, so it didn't work for the rest of my face.
Okay, but...can we talk about the look on Dr. Shah's face in the thumbnail?😂
lmao I was about to comment the same thing!
? i'm confused
This is so helpful!
That guy shaving his face erratically looked like he was attempting to clean windows 😅😅
I find that the old traditional safety razor offers a very clean shave and is very safe as well and if only I had figured that out earlier it would have saved me years of agony.
i’m a barber and i use benzoyl peroxide cleanser and after shave and it works for me. 😅
i also spray cool care on my Gillette razors to prevent rust and disinfect
Which cleanser ??
Dear Doctors, thank you for this video. I wish you’d make a video for threading and hair removal .. face particularly. Will you please guide on post threading care usage of acids/actives.
So how do I go about my skin care routine when shaving? Cleanser to prep > shave > cleanser again > moisturizer > sunscreen?
That’s exactly it!
Don’t forget to rinse razor often while shaving face. It really helps to get a better shave. And another option for shaving cream is Paula’s Choice. It’s perfect.
Enjoy your informative videos. Thanks
Can you make a video on light therapy?
Hello! Could you do a video talking about hair removal, what is better, wax, epilation machines, etc, etc... the process to prepare the skin and the aftercare? Thanks for spreading this knowledge!
Sugaring 😉🖤
What's the rationale for 'short and quick' movements...that seems like it would increase the risk of over shaving...
Nice that you guys know that cruelty free products exist. 💚
I’d love to hear your advice on sos and don’ts when shaving your tenders (male and female please) ;)
Can you please discuss deodorants vs antiperspirant? Which one is more safe? What ingredients do I look for when buying such product? Thanks in advance! I love your channel 💜 I appreciate all the effort 💙
I’ve used my hair conditioner for over 12 yrs, it’s the best thing I’ve used. I’ve gotten very few times I’ve gotten razor burn. Glides smoothly
Two of my favorite doctors!!!!
Getting obsessed with you two! Such great and informative content. I know you mentioned about this retinoids sandwich with moisturizer and I know you don’t recommend using toner lol. What are the correct steps to incorporate retinoids to my skin care routine when I use toner, serum, face oil and moisturizer?
Also, do all the techniques you talked about shaving apply to using an electronic shavers for facial hair?
I binged watched too many of you guys videos 😂🤣 definitely fun n informative! Thanks 🙏🏽 ❤️
I get so so much painful irritation every time. This was very helpful! Thank you!
Question.... I’ve heard a few dermatologists on TH-cam say not to wear vitamin c with L- ascorbic acid during day, especially if your a person of skin of color? They suggest to wear only at night. Can you clarify this and can you talk about the different types of vitamin c best for skin of color? Thank you
This is the BEST video I have ever seen about shaving! 🙌
Yes, it actually is. And considering I already follow all the steps they mentioned and can recommend it 100%, it feels good man.
