I was a huge fan of Final Fanasy 3, 3ds as a kid its how i was introduced to the series. Years later , not a kid anymore i got it on the ps4 pixel remaster and came across your channel, love the positivity and coverage of a great franchise. Just purchased Final Fantasy 5 and am enjoying it greatly so far! Cheers
The FFV job system is one of the most balanced, creative and fun RPG progression systems ever. It really doesn't get enough recognition for how well done this aspect of the game is. The best skills like Rapid Fire and Dual Cast are locked behind weaker classes which force you to sacrifice power while you level them to become stronger in the end. Even newer games that attempt to recreate the system like Octopath just don't quite get the balance right.
Final Fantasy V is such a treat to go back to again and again! Am in the minority if it was a choice between this or VI, I’d pick this! I love it so much. I started working on the platinum but since Tears of the Kingdom came out, I haven’t touched it. LOL. It’s a busy gaming year! Love these videos. Thank you!!
This is the first video that has come out before I finished it, FFV is amazing, should be finishing up soon, always been one of my favorites, but I still place it third begind VI and IX
I don't know about Siphiroth, but I remember cloud and squall appearing during the save data continue page, they would appear after you chose your memory card
Lord almighty 100% completing Final Fantasy V was a Herculean undertaking! Mastering all the Job Classes including Freelancer and Mime was extremely time-consuming! I’m glad this wasn’t a requirement for each character! But there was also making sure the Bestiary was filled out and all Blue Magic obtained! Took me the longest to complete than the previous four entries! Still…Great game!!
How does it compare with getting all jobs on all characters in FF3 to level 99…? I definitely questioned my life choices on that one. Hoping FF5 isn’t so crushing
Final Fantasy V is just *fun*. Not every game needs to be super serious and heavy, its nice having a game that's a little more lighthearted every now and then! Also this game is the source of my favorite story about naming a character. When I first played it, back on PS1 in the collection with VI, when Bartz is still named ???? and first encounters Lenna, she asks what your name is, and the wording on his reply in that version was "You can call me..." So I named him Daddy. "You can call me Daddy." The rest of the game was comedy gold, and as such I can't play this game without naming him as such.
My favourite FF from the 2D era. It doesn't have the strongest story or set of characters, but it is just so much fun to play and colourful and charming. Mastering the jobs and combining them is so addictive and you can play it 10 times and never have the same experience. It has its darker moments, but it's overall very much a feel good FF to me.
Cloud & Sephiroth does not appear in FFV. But the reason they are in the start selection of the game is simple to understand. Square released FFVII on PS1 and it was a big hit, and later on FFVIII came which was also a nice game and had a considerable graphic improovement that gave some spotlight for a series that started up in a console from number 7. Trying to use the momentum they made two releases. Final Fantasy Chronicles: Which brought FFIV & Chrono Trigger to PS1 with the extra bit of animations (animated for Chrono, C Grapich for FFIV) Final Fantasy Anthology: Which brought FFV & FFVI, pointing the issue of the FFIII or FFVI issue for people who were not aware of the jump in number from the Snes era. FFV was first officially coming out of japan and FFVI did not need improvement but just 2 special videos. For the Anthology they decided to make Cloud & Sephiroth appear as cameos in the start up of FFV and I think just Squall in FFVI. They are there just as a freebie cameo since they became so popular due to the recent releases of FFVII & FFVIII
FFV might be my favourite in the series if not for the music - the music is good but it's so... energetic and bombastic which makes it feel a lot more taunting when you have a million encounters in one palce
Great video as always mate, you seem to be working through at a similar rate to me as your videos drop just in time for me to watch right after I've completed the game! I've had my first mistep getting the plat with this one, great and barmy game, but I finished with 99% of the treasures 😭 Looking through all the various guides out there they all seem to contradict each other - is there any in particular you used that's trustworthy for this trophy? Totally agree regarding the soundtrack in this one btw, one of the better examples of Uematsu's love of prog rock
The guides I tend to follow are the ones on the steam forums and I'll only refer to it once I've cleared an area, the ones I use also list missables at the beginning so I'll mostly refer to it when I get to those points. Apart from that I try my best to enjoy it without looking. Except for the blue mage stuff, I had to look that stuff up hahaha
@@GenesisVII Good tip on the missables list. I used the one by lylat on the Steam forums to cross reference too, either it wasn't complete or more likely I screwed up. Just means I'll have to play it again I suppose! Anyway, keep it up! Very much looking forward to giving FFXVI a go as well
Hello Genesis VII. I hope you’re doing well. I’m currently in progress of getting all 6 platinum trophies in the pixel remaster series and I just started playing 5. So hope you don’t mind helping me out by answering these questions specifically about the Blue Mage. 1. Is it really true that once I fully mastered the Blue Mage class, I don’t get to learn more enemy abilities? 2. Which monsters should I keep an eye on whenever I collect the Blue magic? I really need to know because it’s one of the few missable trophies that I don’t want to make mistakes on. Thank you the work that you’ve put into the videos. Cheers.
No worries! Thanks for watching. 1. This is indeed true. I think I prevented this by giving the learn ability to another job so I didn’t level up Blue Mage too much. 2. I followed a guide so I didn’t miss any, if you search FFV steam achievement guide it should be the first one, that helped me grab the spells as I went along
I am so looking forward to FF5PR. It has a lot of positive review and while it seems to be less-played than the other entries, the reviews that are there are just so positive! Also the Blue Mage job looks so cool. xD
This is the best entry in the series. The series has moved to action away from party based combat and it’s not something I’m really interested in now. I like the replayability of 5, the ability to make the game easy or hard as you feel. The different classes really feel different, it really is just a wild adventure reminiscent of the craziness of 1 or 3. Saturday morning cartoon logic to the max with that humor to keep you buzzed about where it could go and ending with a love letter to the friends we have made along the way and something heartwarming to go out on after such a perilous crusade.
Final fantasy V is an interesting one because it doesn't get talked about a lot, mostly because it only had two releases, the Psone version and rhe gba advanced one. I myself haven't played it but from what I've been hearing, I'll really enjoy it.
FFV is great, but maybe the Job system isn't the best to start off with... tho, I personally love it... especially in FFXII The Zodiac Age... but I been well versed in RPGs basically all my life, so I'm used to it, lol.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. FF4, 5, and 6 are Uematsu’s best soundtracks. 5 especially is so bursting with melody and catchiness. He was really in top form back then - all of the pieces are just so snappy, energetic, and effortless- something I think the music in the PlayStation games really lack.
Something about the polish in the older versions really necessitated this remake to me. I think it benefits the most from what the collection promised and actually becomes a great game instead of just a good game.
You are right! On the PS1 version they had guest character sprites that would show up. Here is a link to Cloud! th-cam.com/video/WaJFJPpGlJQ/w-d-xo.html
I guess the reason Final Fantasy V doesn't get a whole lot of attention in the west is mostly because it arrived so late compared to the others. And even when it did the version that we actually got in the west (Anthology) kinda sucked. The added transitions slowed everything down to a crawl and the absurd load times certainly didn't help either. The Gameboy advance version was superior in almost every respect but well it was released pretty much past the end of the GBAs lifetime. So it probably didn't sell too well either considering the Nintendo DS had already been released for 1 1/2 years at that point. So yeah it was just never really given a chance to shine.
I personally think that 5 was kind of around the middle of the first 6 games as far as story and characters go, but it easily had the most enjoyable combat system that allowed for so much freedom of party layout and expression, plus there were so many fun and gimmicky ways of beating bosses and tough enemies that were such a joy to experience.
So for these games have you been using a guide? This is a question for all trophy hunters in general. I use guides for all of my games just because I don’t want to back track (because as you know backtracking is fucking exhausting). I wanna play these games but I also want to platinum them all one one run through, which means I’ll need guides. Thing is I feel like there’s a whole world of more skilled gamers than me out there that can finish these games without guides. I feel like I’m cheating.
I tend to go through each area on my own accord, taking in the story, the area etc. And then if I feel I've done everything in said area I'll then refer to a guide to see if there's anything I've missed before moving on.
@@GenesisVII thanks for the response. And I like it. Something I never even thought about was saving up double xp toward the endgame instead of just becoming OP right off the bat. (Which you did) because I thought “well I wanna enjoy the games how they were meant to be played too”. I’ll probably just be using the perks when I’m in a rut.
It's really hard not to be tempted by them sometimes, as soon as I seen the damage Samurai did with that gil throw ability I defiantly grinded some gil hahaha
@@GenesisVII is Gil more important in 1-6? For instance ff8 was my first back in ‘99. But I realized you really didn’t need Gil at all but to buy weapons. With magic and card-mod you never have the need to buy items. Kind of the same with seven and ten. I never really had much of a need for Gil in those games at least once I got the ball rolling.

Just don't play the pixel remaster if you can help it. Worse translation, changed job abilities, too many bug fixes, changes to bosses from the original, making less options to cheese bosses and fights (what made the game fun) and the spritework isn't that good. The OG is ok and the GBA version is the best.
Ok so just to give a couple examples:
Atomos in the pixel remaster is no longer effected by dark spark and level 5 death. No clue why they buffed him like this, yet kept exdeath at level 66. (He can be taken out in seconds with 2 blue mages)
It doesn't seem like they wanted to reward players for strategic thinking.
In the GBA version, calm on beastmasters was bugged. It worked on everything that was not a magic beast. This actually made the stop effect more useful, as it wasn't purely situational anymore. You could literally combo it with another character's rapid fire and take out some bosses with it. (Omnicient is one)
