I use both! I have a Fuji Xt5 and Sony a7iii. I use my Sony for my paid work, weddings and graduation photography, and I like the raw files that it produces and it's eye auto focus. I love my sigma 24-70 and Sony primes. Fuji I love because it's tiny and I can just carry it in my hoodie pocket when I'm out and about.
Yup. Sony A7cr with the Sigma 20mm f2, Sony 35mm f1.4 GM, Sigma 45mm f2.8, Sigma 65mm f2, Sigma 85mm f1.4 and Tamron 28-200. Fuji xt30ii (last gen before they messed up AF 😅) with the Fuji 35mm f2. The Sony does everything better except be cheap and so I use the Fuji in more risky situations.
@@IamtongueI do but the EVF isn’t great - better than xt30ii but worse than xt5, same with the rear screen.. but the AF, size, grip are great plus the 61mp turns primes into zooms. I shoot raw and use RNI film sims to get film like colours quickly from Sony cameras.
Right on. I'm kind of a Fuji fanboy because I care more about having fun in the process than getting the best possible autofocus. And the cameras are indeed inspiring. For the very same reason, I also use Olympus.
I was definitely a lifetime Fuji fanboy. My first film camera was a Fujica STX-1n in the 80s. My first digital camera was the Fuji Finepix 4700 in the year 2000. I have used Fujifilm XT-1 since 2015, then XH-1, then XT-4. Since I took dog pictures more often, half of my pics missed focus even though I used the latest 18mm f1.4 LM...I wanted to switch to XH-2 or XH-2s for better focusing ability, but they were always out of stock. Long story short, I bought a Sony A6700 for a trial, and oh man, its AI focus locked on the doggies EVERY TIME. No matter how good the color was, it was always disappointing when you found your favorite pics were out of focus. While Fujifilm is great for landscapes and portraits, Sony is definitely the better choice for capturing fast-moving objects.
@@Kosun.T had both and it’s not even close. While I enjoy film simulation and the dials on my Fujifilm systems, Sony’s AI AF subject detection is at least 2 generations ahead of Fujifilm in terms of eye af accuracy.
@@Kosun.T Haha. That's even worse example. Fuji hasn't fixed the AF yet unless you want to use AF-S, burst and pray Last know good AF is X-T3, it still uses PDAF even in video. The most recent one is x-m5, the rest? Just pray the firmware update is good
I am still sticking with my x-t1 after almost 10 years just for enjoying the playful film simulations and already gave up on capturing moving objects 😂 I do think fuji should cooperate with Panasonic lol, since fuji is struggling on the autofocus and lumix is bring real time luts to their cameras
I use both the Sony A7 systems and the Fuji X system, I’m an amateur with lots of hobbies and free time. At least to me. The Fuji seduces me to go out and take pictures, I have to force myself to go out and shoot with the Sony’s. Sony feels like work, Fuji feels like hanging out with that friend that’s weird but fun.
@@Kavika-xh1qjexactly that, I’m a professional photographer. I shoot anywhere from 10-20 sessions a week. Sony are workhorse in terms of getting the best autofocus speed, easier files to work off. Large range of dependable lenses. Full frame. With my family, fujifilm always, because I don’t have to edit them. I don’t want editing to be a part of my workflow for my personal photos. If I have to edit them, it feels like work.
Sony lenses are typically much cheaper for "equivalent" lenses. For example: The Fuji Xf 33mm f1.4 is $800 new, and sony has a $200 50mm f1.8 (which admittedly sucks) and a supremely sharp 50mm f2.5 (not far from f1.4 on aps-c) for $550. Additionally, the Sony 85mm f1.8 is $550 new, whereas the fuji xf56mm f1.2 is $900-$1000. When you take that into account, and the fact that Sony's second-hand market is drastically cheaper, I would say Sony (full frame or not) is the more affordable system to get into. A used A7rii for $700 will basically outdo anything fuji (aps-c) has for photography and autofocus, if you can work with raw files. All that said, the photos just seem to look better from fuji, and thats why I sold all my sony gear and moved to Fuji.
Other than needing an ultra shallow depth of field, or making prints the size of a wall, Fuji’s latest APSC sensor is excellent. It’s the focus challenges at times (like remembering to turn the eye detect on of off deep in the AF system when not needed), and the over complex GUI that make Fuji a challenge. Photos are far more natural than Sony’s colours out of the box. Even an I Phone pro seems to give better colours than standard Sony output. I guess if you like post editing and all that faff then Sony is fine. However, my preference is to nail the image in situ as I did for decades with Fuji’s analogue film stock. In those days I may have used two SLR bodies a tripod, plus a medium format kit on bucket list trips. Now all I need is the X100VI and the wide angle converter. Weighs nothing and the combo of IBIS and ND gives me huge versatility.
i am currently deciding on a new camera system. while size is defnetly a factor and i dont want it to be too large, its not the main factor. but i found out something really interesting here. right now i am shooting with 2 cameras. a small older olympus epl and an old minolta x300 the olympus is smaller than the x300. and you can kind of transfer this to why i am skeptical about sony. The olympus epl is kind of a similar experience and feel than a sony would give. a box with tech in it. there are no dials or nice haptic or manual controls. for everything you do, you gotta go menus and it kind of feels like as if you are using a smartphone honestly. however when i take my minolta x300 with me with md rokkor 28mm 2.8 and a 45mm f2 (wich are both tiny and can fit into any bag) i have the most fun taking photos, getting out there and thinking about compositions and actually getting creative. its just pure joy and fun. when i take the olympus into my hand its like: i dont even wanna use it really. i pick up the epl like i would pick up my smartphone. i feel nothin. now ofc you cant compare that to modern sonys, the sonys are lightyears better. but the experience is kind of similar. the epl is kind of like a sony but 10 times worse-smartphone shooting experience.
Holding fast to my two XT3 bodies with battery grips. I have invested HEAVILY in Fuji glass & 2 Viltrox lenses-27mm & 75mm. Like many other photographers, I am hoping that Fuji can fix autofocus issues across many of their camera platforms. I do not anticipate buying any other Fuji gear unless AF issues are resolved in a very significant way.
Thanks I’ve shot Fuji and then Sony for years after moving from Canon DSLRs to Mirrorless. Ended up leaving Fuji after I sold both my X-T4 and then my X-E3. I now own an array of Sony bodies from their best A1 and A7RV and their compact bodies like the A7CII and A7CR. Really prefer full frame cameras. Haven’t made the transition to GFX cameras because of their size, weight, and cost. Take care.
Part of my reason for largely parting from Fuji over to another system - aside from the AF issues - is product availability. I think the lack of product is partially due to how Fuji is steering their business, trying to be a more upscale brand like Leica. That means if I need to buy a piece of gear, I might just be out of luck, which does not inspire confidence. For now I'm Fuji + Nikon, but I am working toward a full Nikon setup eventually because my X-S20 was purchased for video, and the AF issues have cost me some key shots.
I shoot Fuji professionally and I'd choose a Fuji every day over a Sony, but, I'm not needing 30 FPS all in focus or more than 1. If I was a sports photographer or a wild life pro, I'd probably want a different system. Fuji Auto focus is absolutely fine in AF-S and in AF-C it is not brilliant but not horrible (way better than most cameras from a few years ago) and I'm sure it will be fixed soon. I think the choice comes down to the type of photographer you want to be. Artist/Creative - Fujifilm Clinical sharpness and sterile photos, documenting everything exactly warts and all choose Sony (trust me no one wants a sharp portrait, showing all the imperfections on their skin, they do want it in focus) Also if you invest in Sony APS-C with view to upgrading without changing systems, make sure you buy the Sony FE (full frame) lenses not the E (APS-C) lenses, as those APS-C Lenses wont cover the Full frame sensor (meaning you save nothing when you upgrade)
I have both and prefer Sony. I'm love full frame, reliable autofocus and how customizable I can get with the Sony dials. Fuji is fun and I don't have edit the files if I don't want to with the film simulations. Overall, people should rent each camera and try them out before they buy. Fuji's autofocus and updates have been problematic but with company supply chain issues, I don't know if I trust the quality of the cameras they will be putting out in the future.
I came to Fuji about 4 years ago after shooting Canon DSLR 30D and 7d for many years as a keen amateur but not skilled in photoshop and RAW processing although i always shot raw and one of the main drivers at the time was weight and form factor and cost plus also the great out of camera shots I could share easily whilst travelling without carrying a laptop with me . I looked at the APSC sony system seriously, but cost of lenses , range of APSC lenses available and ergonomics on the 7c put me off so I bought the XT4 . I knew at the time that I was trading off ultimate picture quality and Auto Focus performance particularly compared to full frame but the results I have got suit my use case and I feel that the dial layout combined with the advantages of a mirrorless camera have greatly improved my understanding of the camera fundamentals. I now have the XT5 and yes the Autofocus still lags the current state of the art. I feel that the hardware is there in the XT5 to get to a decent modern autofocus they just need to sort out the firmware.... it certainly smacks of a product released half done. I agree that there is something in the XT series handling form factor that makes you want shoot it more and take it with you where ever you go. I think in the last few months the 3rd party lense situation has improved to the point where the vast majority lens options are covered particularly for prime lenses and at affordable costs.
I shoot with both. A7R3 with Zeiss Primes and X-H2S with Fuji Zooms. I like having the smaller zooms on an APSC system and good range of options on Fuji. Kept my Sony Zeiss Primes because they are some of my favorite lenses ever and they are still light primes. It's what works for me for jobs as well.
hey there, this is exactly my dilemma. I am a cinematographer but will hopefully do my first photography documentary job sometime in 2025 depending on my schedule need to be discreet and i know i love low light my question is A7riii or x-pro3? if you can give me your thoughts i would really appreciate it thx.
One more important point: Sony's app to transfer photos to the phone absolutely sucks. At least with Fuji its troublesome to connect but it works. Being able to transfer to the phone reliably to upload to socials instantly or maybe even print (or print on an instax) is definitely a must in this day and age.
I'm a noob hobbyist who wanted APS-C, and my choice came down to the Fuji X-T5 and Sony A6700. After renting both, went with the Fuji. No regrets. My choice came down to liking the tilt screen more, ergonomics (X-T5 had just enough buttons which all fell easily within reach of my right hand, A6700 felt cramped), easier RAW editing (the Sony green tint is real!), and better APS-C lens lineup. To other newbies out there: rent to see how the camera feels and handles! That's probably the most important factor.
I got BOTH, well I got an first series A7 and I do have bought this year a Fujfilm X100S. I know old one. The best priced one I could find :! Yeah expensive. And the Fujifilm X100S is cuter. Which helps. If you walk around with a bigger body/lens people will notice you. If you walk around with an X100, they smile. And yeah the film simulations are awesome. The fact is has all the important controls in reach so you usually don't have to go deep in menu's. Awesome.
Tung i just got rid of my Fuji gear this week and doubled down on Nikon. The Zf does everything i need it to do, it looks the part and it just...works....right out the box. i'm keeping my X-T4 and my 33 - and i will always own a Fujifilm. But i can't just wait for them to figure it out or how they keep moving the goal post forward.
@@ijovy3 i also considered trying out the ZF where I almost felt it gave me what I loved about sony and fuji, but what do you shoot and what lenses did you end up getting? compact, ergonomics, and value (quality price ratio) have seemed to be priorities for me and sony a7cii with sigma primes feels unmatched, while if i want that retro body full frame the zf seems to check the mark BUT only has 26/28/40 for compact. Alternative is using a ETZ Megadap to adapt those sigma primes onto the ZF. Fuji was where I started but with AF and low light considerations, it seemed I was getting more value from sonys sigma primes compared to the lower f-stop lenses on fuji where their size/price seemed to be similar to the 3rd party full frame glass on sony.
I have shot fast moving pics from a vehicle at night using my Fujifilm X100V and X100VI’s and the shots came out great. I used centre-point focussing with a high shutter speed. I also haven’t downloaded the latest Fuji firmware and won’t until I know it’s going to make my camera better not worse. I have other cameras but I always gravitate towards my Fuji cameras when I am travelling and need high image quality and a small lightweight camera.
I'm due to upgrade my xt3 and I think I'm going with an A7IV. Looking at the firmware/autofocus issues with the xh2 and xh2s it just doesn't make sense for what you pay to stick with fuji. I do a lot of wildlife, lowlight, macro, and product photography so clean, detailed files in focus are what I need. The "personality" and quirks that come with fuji aren't worth the headaches and shortcomings of the system when compared to Sony. Especially when it comes to pro level work. I don't really understand the "inspiration" sentiments that claim fuji cameras have a magic that stimulates creativity and the desire to take photos. Instead I get more of a lack of confidence in my equipment when I can't depend on the battery life or autofocus when Im out shooting. So having to worry about the "quirks" of the system is more of a distraction to me and takes away from my creativity and ability to enter a flow state because part of my focus is on overcoming the shortcomings of the camera itself Instead of the shots I'm trying to create with it.
i from xt3, recently upgrade to a7iv. i can confidently say i am done with my xt3 weak battery, weak af. otherwise everything is good. The a7iv will blow your mind with its AF system. Otherwise, try keeping your xt3 as a sub/for fun camera.
I almost bought the Sony a6700, but I already had a Sony ZV1. I wanted something a bit different so I picked up the Fuji XH2s, the autofocus isn’t that bad and the film simulations are incredible
firstly love your opinion has been a massive help on my photography journey. I got sick of the autofocus on my XH2 but love how it handles and how the images look. I have already invested a lot of money in Fujifilm so I'm keeping it. I just bought the Sony A7Rv and couldn't be happier with the AF. It was a big investment but I think having both systems is great and having a backup is essential as a professional. I've had both systems for 6 months now and feel like I have the best of both worlds. if its still I use fuji, if it moves I use the Sony, problem solved.
I inherited Canon lenses from my grandfather. A few modern ones, one large 70-200mm, and one from 1998. I am forever thankful since I only need to upgrade camera bodies. Once you are locked in, its fine.
Tried Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and now, I'm trying Sony. So far, so very impressed! To each their own and horses for courses, as they say, but I now understand what all the fuss is about regarding Sony. It's no better, no worse, it just is. Great video. Cheers.
Yeah was on Sony for years feeding into the hype, were my least favorite cameras to use. You don't need a Sony to take a good picture. Just a good eye and knowing what you're doing. You definitely learn that after using their cameras.
Quick note that comparing cost of aps-c camera + f/1.4 lens and ff camera + f/1.4 lens is a little misleading. The Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4 is equivalent to a 50mm f/2.1 on full-frame. if you make that comparison, the full-frame combo is often times the same price or cheaper than aps-c. A full-frame with a first-party 50mm f/1.4 lens is actually drastically better than an aps-c with a first-party 33mm f/1.4 lens and, not surprisingly, it costs a good deal more. It's also not true that the lenses on sony full-frame are huge compared to fujifilm aps-c. Compare the fuji 35mm f/2 with the sony 50mm f/2.5. The Sony lens will give better low-light and shallower depth of field, and it's the same size and weight as the fuji alternative.
Shallower depth of field becomes a problem once you try to get more than one person in the frame that are not in the same focus zone. In FF you will have to stop down + 1,3 stops to get the same DOF, and consequently you'll have to push up the ISO setting by the same amount. Noise performance will subseauently be the same. Shallow DOF is not desirable in a lot of situations. It's basically an amateur hobby. Accomplished portrait photographers often want to include the natural environment of a person. And even in fashion, stopping down to F8 is more standard than the exception.
@@bernios3446The point is that larger sensors have greater dof flexibility, so it is still an advantage overall. If you personally never need/want shallow dof, then by all means shoot m43 or smaller sensor cameras (even phone cameras will work in good light).
I have the xt5 with newest lense - the AF is really bad, also for portraits - but if u want to capture people walking by in the street it’s about 70-90% miss (depending on light)
After years of contemplating to get a Fuji, I just picked up a Fujifilm X100VI and being a long-term Sony FF user, it just feels like a breath of fresh air. Honestly, both these cameras have their own places in the market and they both are incredible.
I’m a digital artist by trade, and I edit images all the time. I only shoot raw if the lighting condition calls for it; otherwise I prefer to shoot jpegs (you can really get a lot from 8 or 10 bit files if you know what you need prior to taking the image). Personally I prefer more neutral, natural images out of the camera to work with, so I prefer Sony.
I use both Sony and Fuji. I go with my Sony if I need crisp and clean professional images or video quality since it has better autofocus. Fuji has pretty good quality and definitely has a "look" that nearly everybody loves, it's just not perfectly clean like my Sony. Fuji is just more fun to use though, so it's always my pick for family vacations. I'd recommend a Fuji as a first camera just due to the manual dials for everything. It can really teach you how to use a camera.
towards the cost point, i say: yes and no. it depends. photography can be as cheap or expensive as you make it to be. none of that restricts you in creativity however. there is quite a misconception i think, that ''its just how it is'' people always default to: yeah if you go FF lenses are SO much more expensive and then they compare it to the most expensive available GM lenses...like yeah. sony offers a 28mm & 50mm lens for very cheap. you can pick those up used for like 120-200$ and they are actually quite decent from what i have seen for the price. you can take that as a starting point and upgrade later if you want to. something like a tamron 24-70 2.8 you can also get used for like 450-500$ or you can make it as cheap as you want and go vintage lenses. there are awesome vintage primes around for very little money that look really nice. they are designed for FF. you can pick up a lens for like 20 bucks and be happy with that if you re fine with MF.
I am quite alarmed by your comment that Sony's files are harder to edit. Just to understand your context better, do you mean their files are difficult to work with or do you mean it's just easier to use the SOOC from Fujifilm with your chosen film simulation?
I just want an XT1 or XH series used to use my vintage Takumar lenses but the price has doubled and tripled on the used market. I’m a Sony shooter for professional work. I want a Fuji for fun.
Well said, also you have AMAZING portraits taken with Fuji man, wow! One thing I love from Fuji is that their XF lenses just feel great, even the non-red badge zooms or newer 1.4 primes. Also their kit lenses are fantastic.
@Iamtongue ah ok thanks for replying. I don't work for Lumix, honest, but I just feel that loose comments like that without context can add up and literally break a company or brand. I would hate to see any company go under. 😭
I mean what a full frame camera that comes with the best industry IBIS and shoots at 6k open gate...in a compact travel size. What camera offers all of these specs for less than $1500?
Agree that the lack of supply for Fuji is damaging. Rather than fueling demand and buzz, it's just tiresome. I was seriously thinking of the X100V a couple of years ago but have totally lost interest in it and the VI. In theory the XE4 suits my needs, but the used price is far too high. The XT5 and XT50 still seem to be available though.
Haven’t used Sony in a long while, but I’ve ended with Fuji with primes for fun shooting and canon with zooms and landscape and anything tracking related
I would like to see a video comparing the raw images straight out of Sony compared to the ones from Fujifilm. Would be interesting to see how big difference it is.
I enjoy both systems. I have had my Fuji XT10 for several months. the colors striaght out of camera right awesome. Sony auto is better, however make you slow down. I seem to concentrate more using my Fuji. I'll be using both because I'm not Sony or Fuji photograph. I'm simply a photographer!
i just upgraded from the a6500 to the a6700 and the out of the box colors are definitely better. i also added film simulations to it via picture profiles. my younger brother shoots fuji so i have some experience with what it brings via him, and the colors argument really isn't a huge deal anymore on new generation sony cameras, while the AF is insanely good. i rarely do a lot of editing since i don't have time for that, so getting things right in-camera is important to me, and the new sony cameras do a fine job, really i do keep eying a fuji body, but for the price and what it brings, there's just not enough value in it
Fuji for fun and travel (X100VI has been on all my recent trips), Sony for vid heads, Canon for the majority of pros - superb pro lenses, legacy connectors, superior build quality, durability and the best User Interface by far. I looked long and hard at Sony before buying the X, but I guess having a dozen Canon lenses collected over decades, all of which still work really well, was the deciding factor. Of course a new R5 mk2 and say the 50mm F1.2 costs a fortune but if it’s a work tool, you get what you pay for. I do love my X100 VI - got it on the launch day. Skin tones and film sims are excellent. Same for architecture with the compact wide angle convertor. I got back yesterday from a trip to Salamanca, Segovia, Madrid and Toledo - classic mid Spain. IS worked superbly. 1% of images had exposure challenges when shooting towards the sun, even with a lens hood. No problem for my iPhone 15 pro max though😂
@@jangarcia1338 I shoot the canon for all my paid stuff and I love everything about it, but I had to pick up something smaller for trips/vacation/fun stuff so I got the smaller sony. So far, I feel the colors are similar to the canon, so I really like the sony but I still prefer the canon because of my comfort with the settings/menus/ layout. If canon had a full frame compact like the a7cii I would have gone with that
If you want to join content creation journey, first advice start with your phone camera and invest in a good mic. for wedding ceremony photo shoot understand the pose , perspective, emotions, frame and lighting.
Great insight Video... Congrats . !!! In the flow ... you mentioned to not go for the Lumix S9 ; which seems to be my favourite after seeing the images and the price to performance etc ... Can you please let me know why you are upset with the S9 ; especially after the Latest Firmware ,Full frame sensor at APSC Pricing ,Lumix Lab , LUTs and 6K Opengate .... etc ....
I shoot both. Sony for my concert photography and other commercial projects and Fujifilm for my professional traveling photography. I am on Sri Lanka now and using the new XT50 with te new16-50. This combo makes nice photos. Today I used my backup Fujifilm X100F camera. After editing my photos I fel in love again with my x100f photos. They do look much better than the XT50 files. The colors are better and the files has more soul and less clinical as the XT50 files. Those XT50 photos getting closer to the Sony photos. I want my XT20 back, which I gave to my son.
I also have a set of Fuji and a set of Sony. I prefer using the Fuji for my kids as the skin tones are much nicer. But after the recent firmware update, the fujis auto focus cannot keep up with them running around.. so I’ve been using my A7CR
When I go to work, I reach for my Sony. When I want to have fun and create for myself I reach for my Fuji.. Shooting jpg’s on Fuji is really one of the nice parts of their system.. that and the size/ergonomics. May have to give Nikon Zf a test run.
I upgraded to sony a7c with Sigma 24-70mm from a6500 and since after the upgrade, I am not active in my photography anymore. Any suggestion for compact and light weight APS-C camera?
But most of all I enjoy Voigtlander 35/1.4 for E-mount. It just compact and pleasure to use. Picture wise 50/1.2 is my favourite, but it’s not EDC option)))
1:11 tell me your thought process of more people having Fuji than Sony because it’s cheaper. It’s not true but I want to know your perspective but numbers wise it’s just not true
Great video. I shoot sony and I’m happy with it but open minded. I loke the way fuji cameras look. I have full and crop sony cameras and sony does have lots of apac lenses, third and native. I would be open to get a point and shoot travel camera since I wouldn’t have to buy any more lenses but not sure what to get
I have used both systems. Both are great. If you are shooting professionally I say Sony has the edge. Imagine if Fujifilm released a full frame range finder style camera with those gorgeous film simulations. Game over.
I've only ever shot Fuji and my workflow is so Fuji specific I'm not sure I could ever switch even if I wanted to. I don't like editing plus I'm bad at it but I also don't like that hyper-edited look either. I feel like Fuji almost has a captive customer base which is why they're taking so many liberties these days (pricing, af, film sim dials etc)
I feel you. I was the same..my editing is tailored towards using those film simulations as the base. But after I got over it when I introduced to the Sony. I was able to be creative again with the Sony raws and try to manipulate the colors. It was fun doing that again.
@@Iamtongue I don't mind the idea of editing a perfectly in-focus Sony raw file but the idea of giving adobe money every year makes my balls retreat into my body cavity. So crazy that Fuji can't figure out autofocus but once they do (hopefully by the x-pro 5) there won't be much for me to whine about...
i just switched from Fuji to Sony A7 IV's... i couldnt bear the AF anymore... had 2 X-H2's from launch, got worse and worse with updates, and i got fed up. now i can rely on my camera. The OOC Jpegs were awesome, no question about that. Also the 1.2 Pro lenses from Viltrox were incredible, but i got good subsitutes.
I shoot with both systems, well I did in the past. Sold all my Sony gear and in the midst of selling all but one fuji cameras (six in total). Sony's are HUGELY uninspiring and I got bored with the clinically sharp [and over sharpen] images. It felt like shooting an iPhone but with larger files and a better grip, nothing about the images were unique. Fuji on the other hand had character as long as you use the classic XF lenses of a decade ago but their issues with AF and how they always fall behind the competition in camera performance and build quality, especially since the X-E4 days when they thought ultra minimalism of a supposed Retro designed camera gave way to smartphone inspired touch screen tech for controls and how plastic-y they started to feel. I am keeping my X-Pro2 and a couple classic primes because THAT is the pinnacle of what fuji was about and got it right. Since then you can slowly see the decline. I went back to Nikon and Canon DSLRs, Those NEVER disappoint me and they are real work horses that will live longer than me. My X-Pro2 will be my EDC and my DSLRs are for the important work.
I already spent thousands 😢. If I were in a studio or just doing slow moving or stationary subjects, I would stay with Fuji. I intend to do events and with the recent AF from Fuji I need a more reliable tool. The good thing is you can get an A7 III on sale for around $1200-1300 sometimes from major stores.
Sony is just a much better system to invest into, and it's not even close. 3rd party lenses are getting crazy good in terms of value for the money and they always release for E mount first (and sometimes only). Add to that a far better AF system, more effective IBIS (seriously a Sony A6700 rated for 5.5 stops of IBIS is far more stable than a XS20 rated for 7 stops allegedly), the possibility of swapping lenses between APSC and FF, the availability of a far wider selection of camera bodies to fit every use case better, and it's just a no-brainer.
Have both, tactile experience is more satisfying with Fuji. Also straight out of camera JPEGs are more pleasing and the ability to set up custom simulations is awesome, although the setup could have been better. For dependable AF and raw IQ can't beat Sony FF.
@iamtongue - I'm actively selling my FujiFilm cameras due to the lousy autofocus, but I'm hanging onto the Xh2s. I'd say it all depends on what sensor you're buying. If you want to invest in APS-C and don't mind lousy autofocus, Fuji is your camera. I'm not a fan of Sony APS-C, sure the autofocus is better, but APS-C doesn't seem to be a focus of Sony, as in they don't put their best tech, or effort into those cameras. For full frame it's hard to beat Sony, and I'm digging the Nikon ZF. Per your video, Sony does offer the most compact full frame cameras, and there's something to be said for compactness and decent autofocus!
I agree with everything that you said. My big complaint about Fuji is that they completely broke AF on X-H2s with their FW. I bought a camera with good AF and sold it because of bad AF. Still want to buy the X-T5 but prefer to wait some months.
Bro, I’m gonna make a video this weekend showing my Fuji files that I swear it look better since the 7.0 firmware upgrade. I shoot with the XH2S and the XT4. The XT four is definitely slower on focus but both of the files look great. Capture one has some voodoo magic with these Fuji raw files. I agree with you, I barely have to do anything to them. They look great out of the camera. ❤
I don't why I can't like sony cameras I've owned three of them and ended up selling them. I did make a ton of images with my X-e2 until it just died one day. I've heard that the quality control has declined on fujifilm lately. I guess I will have to get a LUMIX S9?
if im lazy I will grab my x100v snap and post in social media, usually use this camera on a less crowded places, if I want something stunning colour grading and auto focus I will take my Sony 6700
I shoot Sony in my professional side of things and shoot Fuji (just downsized to only two Fuji bodies last week, actually) for everyday fun stuff. At the end of the day, my Sony gear is in another league when compared to my Fuji stuff when it comes to things like quality, AF (yes, big deal) and over functionality. But, it's also almost TOO good at times in that it just feels clinical and sterile at times, or maybe it's just because I associate Sony with work...who knows. But, Fuji is just fun to take out and shoot for some reason. It reminds me of when I first picked up a camera decades ago. But, I won't use my Fuji stuff for money making endeavors where I need to be able to fully trust my camera and equipment, especially until Fuji actually fixes the issues with their cameras. I think that's what it will come down to with a lot of people. One is better for professional work and one is more fun to shoot with or more engaging. There's nothing wrong with enjoying multiple systems, and there's nothing wrong with having preferences.
Fuji said they will release a new update soon to fix the tracking issues. I’m skeptical they will make a huge improvement but I’m also not asking for perfection. All I ask for from the “AI” subject recognition is to not hunt if it finds the subject. If the ssubject is stationary, why does my lens keep shifting focus???? I’ve resorted to turning off all subject detection and using area single focus and sometimes continuous AF but in area. Can’t trust my camera at all. While I’m at it. Fuji, please go back and fix AF for all 4th gen cameras. You promised you would improve AF performance and never delivered.
I was just about to "upgrade " from an X-T3 to 5 as I have now all the lenses I wanted.... and with this (again) Af issues and the way they are addressing it, I have my both feet on the brakes, and really considering listening to what my little voice is signing since a while, Sony A7iv , I have trouble trusting Fuji now and this is no good. Fuji we have a problem....
I did upgrade to a X-T5, last year. Love the Fujifilm film simulations and the "analog feel". The AF works fine for me, but I mostly use Manual Focus and the Back Button Focus . Or I use the AF Single mode. Perhaps try a X-T5 and one of your lenses in the camera shop?
i shot both professionally.. fuji for my photography, sony for videography...i like fuji for my photographjy because of the dial is easily access.. i dont care about that on sony because my exposure is usually controlled by my ND.. but if sony do make body like fuji which have all exposure top dial i'll completely move to sony.. but for now, i have to stick to fuji..
UMMMMMMMM I just got a a6600 last week, and then this popped up. I was able to snag it for a price of 6100+couple of extra dollars due to sale. It is my first mirrorless system, and my idea was that incase I want to go fullframe later I don't need to sell my lenses.
i am not on either of these right now and i am still deciding for my new camera however 2minutes in, i already have to heavily disagree and criticize you on your wording. you make it to be as: people buy fuji because they suck at editing raw or arent good editors. is does not only sound quite arrogant and bias but is also quite far of the truth. people buy something like a fuji, not because it has to do anything with their editing skills or because they can not edit raws, but because they DONT WANT TO anymore. because editing is NOT FUN. people come home after an 8h work day or/and sitting in front of a screen all day and the last thing people want to enjoy is, sitting in front of your computer for the rest of the evening to edit your photos. its a mentality you ll get when shooting film cameras. you dont think about editing. you just go out and shoot photos intentionally because it is FUN. not because you dont have the skills to take digital photos instead or because you suck at editing.
I mostly went what I can grow with in lenses and what was more my Style for color. If I had the money is Sony. Fuji just seems like Film more and i love that. But don’t got the money to get that X cameras lol. So I Found my self with Nikon. But yeah if I could go to Sony alpha 7Rs are good. Don’t have the money either lol. Anyways I’m currently using Nikon z fc
For hobby Fuji, for pro work Sony. I love Fuji to death but Sony is just leauges better in terms of autofocus and much more consistent in professional enviroment. Regardless of that on the other hand il never grab Sony to go shoot my personal stuff because I just love how Fuji feels and behaves.
Fuji people say they "prefer the process of photography" over "Sony's automated AF and great image quality" but they forget that a Fuji APS-C costs as much as an A7IV with kit, and that Sony Alpha cameras aren't actually drastically better. The only difference between Sony and Fuji is that Sony works out of the box.
@@Iamtongue well sony mirrorless does feel kind of stale, that's why i bought an A7IV i found new in Barcelona for the price of a6700+kit. But I value even more having ✨the shot✨ than a worn out shutter mechanism and stacks of out of focus photos. My photo style fits more with an A6700 because of the crop sensor, but it's got a 60ms readout speed and 1/4000 only, and not many buttons.
Despite not having seen the video yet, would like to say thank you to you, as well as i did with edvard, Thierry Gibralta and soooo on, for being one of the youtubers who reported the issues and stayed there to report and report again (i think i have seen you in almost all comments from videos related to fuji AF hahaha). Thanks :) Being said that, i ¿use? both systems (i would like to say that). I would like to compare a6700 with xh2s but... i cant remember how the footage looked like since im using the a6700 (I have a fuzzy memory of what the image looked like haha). Maybe i liked more the quality of xh2s at higher settings but anyways, a6700 autofocus made the image look with more quality. Im waiting for the a7V or FXIII mkii to come. If i have to bought one camera today, would be prob a a7cii. And i have to chose between fuji and sony... sony. No doubts. Some works are too much stressful to not have a camera to rely on. I can edit colours and whatever in post... but i need clear sharp images :S
Sony's will in most cases always be the better camera, technically. However I switched from Sony to Fuji due to size and I just have more fun using them.
Latest fujifilm bodies have price similar like sony entry level fullframe camera. After I learn how to edit, i think it is not worth to invest in fujifilm anymore.
"...everyone and their grandma..." "...a lot of these cool kids..." LOL! "..they don't have a FF option..." YET... 🙂 So many choices so little time... Have a rockin' day!
The size difference between an a7iii with zeiss 55 1.8 is pretty much the same as an xt5 + 33mm 1.4. Sony has so many lightweight options like tamron 2.8 zooms. Sony is just so much better value for money imo with how fujis are priced these days. I started with Fuji and have mostly stuck to their system but they don't make it easy!
Anyone shooting with both system? List your pros and cons for the people who don't know!
@@nevvanclarke9225I agree but their autofocus is reliable and I’m a fujifilm fanboy.
@@anthonystonehouse you like the a7cr? 😮 I want to try it 😅
@@IamtongueI do but the EVF isn’t great - better than xt30ii but worse than xt5, same with the rear screen.. but the AF, size, grip are great plus the 61mp turns primes into zooms.
I use to own the Olympus EM1 and it was AWESOME! I had such a fun time with that camera!
@@samsonelight try xt5 or xt50
@@Kosun.T had both and it’s not even close. While I enjoy film simulation and the dials on my Fujifilm systems, Sony’s AI AF subject detection is at least 2 generations ahead of Fujifilm in terms of eye af accuracy.
@@Kosun.T Haha. That's even worse example. Fuji hasn't fixed the AF yet unless you want to use AF-S, burst and pray
Last know good AF is X-T3, it still uses PDAF even in video. The most recent one is x-m5, the rest? Just pray the firmware update is good
@Kosun.T, dont even bother. Still the same... 😢
@@Cl0udStrife1996 Bingo.
A million times repeated this learned nonsense...
Ya you right. I forgot about the second hand market
Don’t forget about the Sigma and Tamron lenses. Those are SHARP.
i am currently deciding on a new camera system. while size is defnetly a factor and i dont want it to be too large, its not the main factor. but i found out something really interesting here. right now i am shooting with 2 cameras.
a small older olympus epl and an old minolta x300
the olympus is smaller than the x300. and you can kind of transfer this to why i am skeptical about sony.
Would be really cool to see the raw editing comparison of the same photo from both systems
I have been enjoying fujifilm more, I just hope we get a patch for the focus before GTA6!
Bro its been months, hopefully soon.
🤣
😂😂 best comment
U mean before GTA9? xD
Artist/Creative - Fujifilm
Clinical sharpness and sterile photos, documenting everything exactly warts and all choose Sony (trust me no one wants a sharp portrait, showing all the imperfections on their skin, they do want it in focus)
Also if you invest in Sony APS-C with view to upgrading without changing systems, make sure you buy the Sony FE (full frame) lenses not the E (APS-C) lenses, as those APS-C Lenses wont cover the Full frame sensor (meaning you save nothing when you upgrade)
Exactly this
Fuji lenses are more clinical looking imo, I like the character of gm lenses more than Fuji WR lenses.
Do you mean by „will be fixed soon“, fuji will improve AF with firmware update or new models?
@@JanEggi af-c will be fixed by firmware not a new model of camera
I have both and prefer Sony. I'm love full frame, reliable autofocus and how customizable I can get with the Sony dials. Fuji is fun and I don't have edit the files if I don't want to with the film simulations. Overall, people should rent each camera and try them out before they buy. Fuji's autofocus and updates have been problematic but with company supply chain issues, I don't know if I trust the quality of the cameras they will be putting out in the future.
exactly this! thanks
That’s how you do it! Glad you’re enjoying the xt5 I love mine
Renting really is the best way to know which camera you want 😊
"Im a noob hobbyst" - that's pretty obvious after reading your comment.
I'm glad man. The more people drop Fuji the more they will have to respond. Do what you gotta do brother!
Yup if you are okay with it's AF it's truly an amazing machine.
firstly love your opinion has been a massive help on my photography journey.
Exactly, if it is still I use fuji, if it moves I use Sony
I just bought a Sony bc I want to shoot moving stuff
5:56 what webpage is that?
Yes I’m dumbing it down for people. But you are correct
Simple. If you want really dope shots of ears, foreheads, chests, and random bushes get the Fuji. If you want to focus on what you intended get Sony.
LOL
I have the xt5 with newest lense - the AF is really bad, also for portraits - but if u want to capture people walking by in the street it’s about 70-90% miss (depending on light)
After years of contemplating to get a Fuji, I just picked up a Fujifilm X100VI and being a long-term Sony FF user, it just feels like a breath of fresh air. Honestly, both these cameras have their own places in the market and they both are incredible.
@@RahulVanganicreations you know what’s funny.. that’s how I feel about Sony and its autofocus when I first used it 😅😂
I’m a digital artist by trade, and I edit images all the time.
Totally agree!
What is the site that was used for 05:45 - 06:10?
towards the cost point, i say: yes and no. it depends. photography can be as cheap or expensive as you make it to be. none of that restricts you in creativity however.
there is quite a misconception i think, that ''its just how it is'' people always default to: yeah if you go FF lenses are SO much more expensive and then they compare it to the most expensive available GM lenses...like yeah.
sony offers a 28mm & 50mm lens for very cheap. you can pick those up used for like 120-200$ and they are actually quite decent from what i have seen for the price. you can take that as a starting point and upgrade later if you want to. something like a tamron 24-70 2.8 you can also get used for like 450-500$
or you can make it as cheap as you want and go vintage lenses. there are awesome vintage primes around for very little money that look really nice. they are designed for FF. you can pick up a lens for like 20 bucks and be happy with that if you re fine with MF.
I agree! Love their primes
3:32 you shouldn't buy the S9?
Not at retail. But if you can get it for an amazing deal go for it.
Interesting idea! I’ll put it on the list
Where should I sign for a "Massage class for Sony RAW's" ?
@@JuanKis Right here! Me love you long time 😅😅😅🤣
i just upgraded from the a6500 to the a6700 and the out of the box colors are definitely better. i also added film simulations to it via picture profiles. my younger brother shoots fuji so i have some experience with what it brings via him, and the colors argument really isn't a huge deal anymore on new generation sony cameras, while the AF is insanely good.
i rarely do a lot of editing since i don't have time for that, so getting things right in-camera is important to me, and the new sony cameras do a fine job, really
i do keep eying a fuji body, but for the price and what it brings, there's just not enough value in it
Fuji for fun and travel (X100VI has been on all my recent trips), Sony for vid heads, Canon for the majority of pros - superb pro lenses, legacy connectors, superior build quality, durability and the best User Interface by far.
Great Video! I have a Canon r6 mkII, sony a7cII, but I'm curious about the fuji. I need to shoot with one so that I can see what all the hype is about
Do you like better the Canon or the Sony?
Solid advice
Having just sold my Sony A7 II, I reckon I can handle the Fuji focusing people are complaining about if I ever get to switch .
if you can handle it welcome aboard. The colors and jpgs are great :)
Uh oh... please don't break your sons heart 😅🤣
I'm a horrible editor & I don't want to learn either due to time shortage.
Thinking of buying Fuji.
@@BestToWonder on the Fuji, you can potshot fine JPG, and if you did your part, no “need” to edit.
Great video. Good to see someone reminding folk how good Fuji cameras are given the negativity at the moment (Fuji deserve this though).
Hi there. What is the site you use for all available sony E mount lenses, please?
I also have a set of Fuji and a set of Sony. I prefer using the Fuji for my kids as the skin tones are much nicer. But after the recent firmware update, the fujis auto focus cannot keep up with them running around.. so I’ve been using my A7CR
How did you get those colors on Sony? RAW and editing or Creative Looks or a specific LUT? Can you please share your Color process😄
It’s from my personal Sony preset pack I’m working on. I’m trying to get these colors right.
@@Iamtongue they look really great! Please make your preset pack available for us 🤩
I appreciate your honesty, I just wish fujifilm would get it together. I’m hoping they address the issue in the Fuji summit next week🤞
You and me both! Thanks!
When I go to work, I reach for my Sony. When I want to have fun and create for myself I reach for my Fuji.. Shooting jpg’s on Fuji is really one of the nice parts of their system.. that and the size/ergonomics. May have to give Nikon Zf a test run.
good answer
I upgraded to sony a7c with Sigma 24-70mm from a6500 and since after the upgrade, I am not active in my photography anymore. Any suggestion for compact and light weight APS-C camera?
a6700 - but the huge Sigma 24-70 probably is your problem with the a7C, get a smaller and lighter lens for it
My main system was A7C II with bunch of lenses. Just ordered X-T30 II to use with Voigtlander pancake lenses for small second camera for fun.
that's the spirit!
Also Sony system has some awesome lenses like 50/1.2GM and 90/2.8 Macro.
Game over.
Man that would be legendary... Maybe MEDIUM FORMAT???
they say maybe there will be a x100 style medium format camera next. excinting
yea I heard about that! Sounds interesting
I have both X-T5 and A7c2.
And my wishes are AF from Sony to my X-T5 and Fuji color film simulation on my A7c2 ))
And full frame from Fuji )
I agree. Love Sony’s autofocus better than Fuji
@@zoomle_iOS which body would you bring if you’re travelling light?
@@brandonchang6025 I bring Sony. It is convenient to hold it in my hands
@@brandonchang6025 I'm travalling with Sony.
Great video! At the end of the day, imma just have both eventually lol
Good choice!
One of the few honest takes. I love fuji because I can say that there is no one yet or will come in future to match color profilw of fuji.
i just switched from Fuji to Sony A7 IV's... i couldnt bear the AF anymore... had 2 X-H2's from launch, got worse and worse with updates, and i got fed up. now i can rely on my camera. The OOC Jpegs were awesome, no question about that. Also the 1.2 Pro lenses from Viltrox were incredible, but i got good subsitutes.
Yes! 👍
I'd like to see Canon and Nikon notice you and send you some of their newest camera's to try out and get your opinion on them.
Honestly that would be great! I would love to test drive their products!
Best comments i have ever watched. Thank you. What would you recommend fuji xm5 or sony zv e10-ii.
if the xm5 has decent autofocus i would recommend the xm5.
@@Iamtongue I preordered it thank you.
Colors and over sharpened can be fixed in post. Out of focus shots cannot be fixed
Hell ya man, I use to own both those cameras so I know whats good :)
I’m gonna get the A6700. Do you know if it plays well with off camera flash?
I dont know im sorry.
A very eloquent comment thank you!
Fuji is doing some head-scratcher things at the moment.. 😅 let’s pray this firmware update will be good
@@Iamtongue Yeah they keep announcing weird cameras to make a quick buck instead of fixing what they already have!
@@jdiuurdfsds Well worth the try. Thank you !
👍💯🙏thank you. Couldn’t agree with you more sir.
i shot both professionally.. fuji for my photography, sony for videography...i like fuji for my photographjy because of the dial is easily access.. i dont care about that on sony because my exposure is usually controlled by my ND.. but if sony do make body like fuji which have all exposure top dial i'll completely move to sony.. but for now, i have to stick to fuji..
That's the spirit!
I'm still undecided which to stick with LOL
Same! Haha
Using both, for me Sony (A7 IV) mechanical shutter sound is uninspiring :) clashing metal 😅
UMMMMMMMM I just got a a6600 last week, and then this popped up. I was able to snag it for a price of 6100+couple of extra dollars due to sale. It is my first mirrorless system, and my idea was that incase I want to go fullframe later I don't need to sell my lenses.
smart move!
i am not on either of these right now and i am still deciding for my new camera however 2minutes in, i already have to heavily disagree and criticize you on your wording.
you make it to be as: people buy fuji because they suck at editing raw or arent good editors. is does not only sound quite arrogant and bias but is also quite far of the truth.
people buy something like a fuji, not because it has to do anything with their editing skills or because they can not edit raws, but because they DONT WANT TO anymore. because editing is NOT FUN. people come home after an 8h work day or/and sitting in front of a screen all day and the last thing people want to enjoy is, sitting in front of your computer for the rest of the evening to edit your photos.
its a mentality you ll get when shooting film cameras. you dont think about editing. you just go out and shoot photos intentionally because it is FUN. not because you dont have the skills to take digital photos instead or because you suck at editing.
I mostly went what I can grow with in lenses and what was more my
Style for color.
“Upgrade to a full-frame sensor” LMAO 😂
It all boils down to preference. Haha some would argue they like that experience because Sony feels too “boring” 🤷
Here I am still rocking my trusty ol xt3 😂 but I do see the problem that fujifilm has been going through lately. The optics are not good.
It's not! But the XT3 still rocks!
Thanks :)
Being said that, i ¿use? both systems (i would like to say that).
Thank you. My brutal honesty has gotten excommunicated with fujifilm PT 😭
There are rumors about fujifilm making a new full frame camera segment and models.
I would love to see that happen!
"...everyone and their grandma..." "...a lot of these cool kids..." LOL! "..they don't have a FF option..." YET... 🙂 So many choices so little time... Have a rockin' day!
Thanks Charlie have a good weekend
The size difference between an a7iii with zeiss 55 1.8 is pretty much the same as an xt5 + 33mm 1.4. Sony has so many lightweight options like tamron 2.8 zooms.
Sony is just so much better value for money imo with how fujis are priced these days.
I started with Fuji and have mostly stuck to their system but they don't make it easy!
☝️ I agree
So much hate for the Lumix S9 😂 I don‘t understand this camera either. I mean: Who is this for?😅
