The 9" used to be as common as fleas on a hound dog and cheap. The rush to crush at junkyards to make space for newer cars which sell more parts, and the closing of many old junkyards, has made them more rare. And the heavy-duty wheel bearings have long been out of production after Torrington moved to Mexico. In Econoline vans they changed to the 8.8" during production in 83 1/2 for the 84 model year as the last of the 9" rears was used up. With a nodular chunk they were good to around 1000HP in drag racing as-is, no stronger standard car and light truck rear end has ever been made. Get 'em while you can!
While pulling the Turd Member required more than undies and a couch or sofa... Cleaning, Inspecting, Installing Pinion Spacer (vs Crush Cleeve), and Painting was done in my undies!!!! I really like the Banjo Style Axles, but If's I finds a Chrysler 8 /34" I might just grab it and stuff it under my '78 F150.

I had a 9in in my 78 t bird and now in my 86 bull
If you're 8.8 has a crush sleeve Eliminator kit in it then it's good to go if not now you have a Choice Eliminator kit for 9 in
I just have one question does your 8.8 have a crush sleeve in it and if it does you now have your answer
My bull nose 351w ho has a 9in

If a better axle is ever made I bet Ford will make it and the rest will copy it.
