    Without doubt the best video I've ever seen on how to use the K-70! I wish this had been around when I bought mine 3 years ago.

    Excellent indepth video. Thanks I bought the K-70 a few years ago and enjoy using it as my main camera. It's a great camera with lots of settings that take awhile to learn so your video hits all the right buttons. Cheers!

    Very well done! Nice little camera jam packed with features like ibis, focus peaking, and astrophotography. Think I'll have to pick this one up, just on the strength of this video! Much appreciated!

    Whosoever put this recommendation on Pentax tips is a genius , so next the KP , and then the Pentax K 3 mk3 come on guys this brand has more than earned it. From a MG film camera to a digital KP this brand does not follow , but as always it innovates 👍.

    Thanks for this great video. What I'd like to know is if the red light is flashing in the frame in one of the spots on the 11 points how can I change it to be in the middle. I am using a 50mm 1.8 f and often find my subject is blurred. If I use my zoom lens which starts at 3.5 f then I often don't have enough light.

    • @PentaxTips
      @PentaxTips  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It sounds like you need to modify your AF Active Area (12:23) especially at 12:40 where you can use the D-Pad to select which focus points are available to be selected.

    One information missing at the beginning: colour depth this camera's saving files in - just like weather sealing - a feature of a professional camera in a cheap popular workhorse :-)

    Very informative and helpful video about K70.
    I would like to find optimal settings for portrait photography, because I personally cannot manage to adjust those parameters

    • @PentaxTips
      @PentaxTips  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My tips for portrait:
      Use a 50mm lens with fast aperture (f/1.8). Put camera in Av mode with the widest aperture (or close to it). Put ISO range to a value is as low as possible but doesn’t yield motion blur. AF-C with back button focus. Use only the center focus point and use a ‘focus-recomposition’ technique. Cheers

    • @jordanc.c.
      @jordanc.c. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use AF-S (Single Focus), back button focus and center weighted or dot depending on my light source and background. SR set on. Also don't be timid to use a bit of ISO in low light with slightly faster shutter speeds with low aperture in low light conditions. This will result in less motion blur. Also I suggest some sort of flash. I use a Godox TT350 since its small and very portable. Tripod is possible with remote trigger.

  • @houghtonstreet3392

    I have 2 questions on viewfinder settings re focus:
    1. If I choose AF.S and 11 AF points, does that mean the focus will always be at the centre of the frame?
    2. If above is true, then if I compose my subject at centre initially, that will put it in focus, will that focus locked on my subject? So that if I hold the half-press and move the subject out of centre, it will be still in focus?

    • @PentaxTips
      @PentaxTips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! Your second example is correct. If shooting AF.S and 11 points, you can half-press to focus on your subject and recompose your scene and you will remain focused at the initial subject (as long as you keep the half-press held).

    • @houghtonstreet3392
      @houghtonstreet3392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PentaxTips Thanks! and the focus point is that flashing red dot out of those 11 points, right?

    Have you had any issues with the malfunctioning solenoid in your K-70? I've read they go bad and its really putting me off buying the camera tbh.

    • @PentaxTips
      @PentaxTips  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve heard about the issue. It did not stop me from buying a K-S2 and then a K-70. I purchased extended warranty but never had to use it.

    • @PentaxTips
      @PentaxTips  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you are very worried, buy a KF instead. It’s nearly identical to the K-70 and does not report a selenoid problem

    I’m thinking of buying this camera. I have been doing film photography now for a year and wanted to switch over to digital because it’s cheaper. I have a few vintage pentax lenses also. Is this camera better than the cannon Rebel T7? I do a lot of our door shooting in bad weather so the weather proofing is huge for me. Are all of the new Pentax lense made for these cameras also weather resistant or water proof?

    • @brianprimeau5006
      @brianprimeau5006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Pentax digital lenses seem to be either 'weather resistant' (WR) or 'all weather' (AW), with AW being on their premium lenses and apparently more robust than the WR. I've shot WR in snowstorms and heavy rain and never had any issues. but I'd avoid doing dedicated underwater photograph with them!

    • @kamilpotato3764
      @kamilpotato3764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought too about selling my d5300 , gx80 and getting k70. Only snag is it does have only 11 autofocus points and been reading some dreadful stories about solenoid being rubbish quality. It's still cheapest new weather sealed apsc camera available(and with ibis). Current prices with kit lens in UK is about 600.

    • @elijahwolter9235
      @elijahwolter9235 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kamilpotato3764 I decided to buy this camera and it’s a very nice quality camera with tons and tons of features. It takes very nice pictures and feels good in the hands. It has a nice chunky grip, durable feeling rubber, and the nice touch of the sd card slot being on the side and weather resistance at this price point is what sold me on it besides my k mount collection.

    • @kamilpotato3764
      @kamilpotato3764 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elijahwolter9235 I'm bit torn between selling those two cameras mentioned above and getting k70. I still got two bodies of omdem10mk2 which I like because of size and few features(I'll keep them). For a moment was thinking about second hand omdem5mk3 because of weather sealing but when I checked prices of m4/3 lenses with w/sealing I doubt I'll be able to afford them. Pentax basic w/sealed lenses are way cheaper.

      K-70 is very good for astrophotography and landscapes. it can also be used by Pentax O-GPS1 system, which allows to take longer exposures. i was able to take 10 sec exposures of Orion Nebula with 200mm Takumar and i was surprised by the results. No star trailing, no post processing , straight from the camera!

    hi. just purchased a mint used k70.am i missing something here. if i change the aperture or shutter speed looking through the viewfinder , the image does not get any darker or brighter. doing the changes on the LCD screen it does. does that mean that i have to make all the changes on the LCD to see if the exposure is correct. .THATS CRAZY. i am sure i have had dslr before that i can see the changes to exposure through the viewfinder

    • @exitar1
      @exitar1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not on a DSLR you didn’t but on a mirrorless camera with an electronic view finder you will see change’s to exposure.
