Thanks for taken the time to enlighten people about Pentax cameras. One of the things that reviewers seldom mention is the quality of the construction of the Pentax bodies, I started out with the Pentax K5 and later upgraded to the K3, when I was ready to buy a DSLR I was looking mainly at the big TWO, Canon/Nikon, but soon found out that the cameras in that price range from them, were really dump down spec vice compared to Pentax, also the quality feel when holding the cameras in the hand was like night and day, and the Pentax was cheaper! Later when I was thinking about upgrading to full frame, I was thinking going the Nikon 810 route, so being on vacation in Bangkok I went to a camera store and handle the 810, and man was I disappointed, compared to the K3 with battery grip that I had hanging on my shoulder, the Nikon felt plasticy and like a much cheaper put together camera, so I left the store with my trusty K3 and thought, I will wait for the Pentax full frame, hopefully one day it will arrive, and guess what!......

Very happy with Pentax, except third party people ignore it often. I have a K-3, Q7, K-01, and a MX-1, along with my K1000 and Spotmatic 1000 that still work fine. There were several other models that have passed through my hands through the years. Any shortcomings are usually operator related. I have several lenses from new digital AF back to several Takumar and SMC manuals both K-mount and M42 screw mount.
Note: Pentax K lens series: Original K mount Pentax M (smaller lenses introduced with MX/ME) Pentax A (auto aperture setting for the ME Super Program series) Pentax F (first AF lenses) Pentax FA (later AF lenses with more electronics, MZ/ZX series) Pentax D-FA (digital coatings but full frame) Pentax DA (apps-c)

The Camera Store have just released a review on the K70. Bottom line, for under a $1000 it's the best all-round camera on the market, so long as you aren't a heavy sports shooter or videographer. So good it actually makes the K3ii obsolete.
Nah not quite. The K3/K5 range have faster burst rates and bigger buffers, twin card slots, can take an external grip, have a faster max shutter speed, shutter and body are stronger and rated for longer life etc. They're two different focusses underneath.
I have a bunch of Pentax bodies, and I just went ahead and got one of these K-70s too. Good hands on review, thanks! LOVE the Minolta strap! I worked for them a while back in the day. :)
Been checking out a decent amount of your videos today since I'm looking to upgrade from my K50 to either the K3ii or the K70. Which of those two would you recommend? I've been doing my research and i simply cannot decide which is the superior camera between the two.
This is my travel and outdoor camera . I also use pentax Pancake lens. Great all-round. Lenses. Pentax and its name a very traditional. Sony makes great tvs.
I am late in viewing it but I really thought the video was informative. Apart from a digital "point and shoot" Fujifilm Finepix that I got in a thrift store for $7, all my cameras are film cameras, with Pentax or Chinon k-mount. You can well imagine that I would love to get a digital Pentax SLR and right now I think this k-70 camera is at the sweet spot for me. I also like the idea that I can get a zoom lens for under $100, as you described in the video. Thanks again for a very helpful video.
Trying to decide on kp or k70. I always thought the kp was smaller. However it's larger then the k70. Is it worth avoiding the k70 do to apature iss some experience?. I think the image quality is about the same.
I have had the K-30 k-50 k-s2 K-70 with no issue. Yes the image quality will be pretty much the same. K-70 at $200+ cheaper it is a no brainer. With the money you save you can get a nice lens. That has happened, but it's been reported in a small number of units. It's much less problematic in the K-70, compared to the previous models in its class (K-50, K-30).
This is still a current camera. I have just scored one brand new with a 40mm lens for $400AUD 😘 Currently using a Tomato Red K-50 that people think is a toy 😂 I am a 💩 photographer….. May be time to take a class or two 👊💥👊

Ensure the zooming index on the lens is set to a position that permits shutter release. ?? so what is the problem here ?
This is a perfect portable form factor. Pentax should just improve on this model with fast and accurate autofocus both in live view and optical view, and atleast 7fps continuous drive with great tracking with the latest ISO performance from the a6400 cameras. I am finding the A6500 is an awesome mirrorless camera with its accurate face detect tracking in sports and very nice clean iso performance. This Pentax model I find it so small compact and very nice handling that I wish it could perform like the a6500.

I actually prefer the look of the K-S2 over the K-70 and it was cheaper so I went with it. My main concern is that the K-S2 video will not auto focus once recording. It will only focus before recording so you can't shoot multiple distances. Does anyone know the K-70 will auto focus during recording?
I have a K-50 and it is having issues with the aperture mechanism. I hope to have it fixed but am looking to get the K-70 as well. Any info regarding this camera and whether or not it has a different aperture control block would be most appreciated. Thanks for the videos!
How efficient is pentax when using flash. With canon I just put it on TTL and pictures are just great. Would pentax be similar? Are pentax brand flashes as good as canon?
Thanks for the comparison. That will really help users decide which Pentax to buy. I'm currently a K-3 shooter which still works great so I think I might wait till the new flagship APS-C comes out. Have you considered getting the Pentax 16-85mm to add to your collection?
I haven't heard of any rumors yet either. I'm fine with the 24 mpix for APS-C as I make 20x30" prints and they come out great. I am just hoping some of the K-1 features trickle down into the next APS-C flagship such as the swivel screen, enhanced pixel shift features etc. Would also like better low light but capabilities. I know I could just get the K-1 but I really don't want to buy all new lenses as well. I'm in no rush as I usually buy the newest flagship a year or so after it comes out and the price drops.
I think you are right, that seems to be about when Pentax announces their new cameras and they seem to be on the market by about April or so. We'll see. Hoping for all these new innovative features in one package.
I haven't used Pentax before and I wish to have one one day but to be honest I so much love the focus peaking Sony and other companies are offering... don't know why Pentax doesn't try the EVF?
evf is a mirrorless feature. Most Dslr users like optical viewfinders. I do have to admit I really like the evf and focus features on my Panasonic GX8. I like it's features and feel 10 times more than the Sony a6300 I owned previously. Thanks for watching

Just loved to add that in the case of Sony's SLT technology (for example the a77 ii) you still enjoy the ergonomics of a DSLR but with the focus peaking feature which is a plus especially when shooting manual and/or attaching legacy glass or modern yet inexpensive third party manual lenses. my point is that with the durability and lens sharpness and weather proofing of Pentax, swiching to SLT and thus enabling focus peaking technology, and dramatically enhancing sequential shooting speed and autofocus system, Pentax would simply be The camera! dongle seon oh yea...If Pentax makes mirrorless cameras in the future it would be a great addition to their lineup but keep in mind two things: mirrorless would be less weather proof and they would need a new native lens mount selection. I don't think they're going to it sooner...not before they enhance the video department especially we are in the 4K now and weather proofing the way Pentax brag about can't cope with keeping the heat within limits in small tightly sealed bodies in my opinion. I think for the time being and with the massive competition especially from Sony which is releasing new model every week Pentax should keep doing what they are doing today, probably adding lenses to their full frame K1 and considering SLT technology for future DSLRs while keeping the prices competitive.
I know it's the last thing pentax will do... But I will just happy if they makes it ultimate lens adopting machine without native lens. And um.. May I ask why you think It would be less weather proof?
Sir, I want to buy a Pentax camera for videography. I will solely use the camera for wide-angle, fish-eye, low and zero light videos. Which one will you suggest? K-70 or K-1? Also can this camera shoot 4K videos? Please do answer. It will really help me.
I'm a massive Pentax fan, but suggest you look elsewhere for videography. Panasonic / Sony. The Pentax lineup has always been more focused on stills / landscape / astro photography. The video in my k30 is useable in consistent conditions, but my phone is generally better. Good luck.

It is rare, unless you rarely shoot. Leave it in the closet for 6 months, a year maybe. Never had an issue with my personally owned cameras k-30 k-50 k-s2 k-70...

No, focus peaking is an electric viewer finder option. The K-70 has an optical viewer finder. The k-70 does have focus peaking in live view but not in the view finder. Pentax does offer a couple of manual focus options that some other manufactures do not. In manual focus you still get a confirmation beep. There is also a catch in focus option that will automatically take a picture when the subject is in focus. thanks for watching

Just being an idiot....but why is it I have difficulty trusting someone who claims allegiance to the Pentax brand but has MINOLTA straps on both of his cameras?
I have the original strap of my Canon in the box it came with, and using a Minolta strap for everyday use of my Canon. If I want to go to an event maybe I will use the new and clean Canon original strap. See? This may be a good reason. Another personal reason is that the Minolta strap I have is more stealthy and does not attract people's attention.

Since a M42 is discontinued. There is only K Mount afterward. So,the one who says Pentax isn't have tons of lens choice. They're just a noob photo shooter. Not a real photography.
Just buy an M42 adapter, it's cheap. I bought it with my first K-camera, the MESuper. One disadvantage is that the lens must be able to step down on it self.
Please compare it to the Canon 70D in the real world video department (color depth, low light performance, and autofocusing). I'm really torn between which one I should buy.
I would get the Pentax. The body is made of thick hard plastic, which is very good quality. It also is weather sealed, so you could get it pretty banged up. A lot of the specs are also alot better two.
+Traveler777 who really cares about the number of focus points.... i could have 200 of them and i would still only use one.... more focus points is just a gimmick.... gimme more fps if anything
Really it's this or the K-3 ii. I can't see a need to buy the K-S2 anymore. Pentax manual film lenses are way under rated. All my film lenses will give any new lens a run for it's money.

Yeah. If pentax makes mirrorless which has same spec with k-70, with genuine digital adapter for k mount, It would definitely be my go to camera.

How about difference in ergonomics between K-70 and K-S2?
Both are are excellent. I have medium size hands. I thought Canon was very good, but a Pentax just fits my hand perfect. Thanks for watching

I just got my K70...my hand fits great but man, with the 18 - 135 lens, it is heavy!

Since a M42 is discontinued. There is only K Mount afterward. So,the one who says Pentax isn't have tons of lens choice. They're just a noob photo shooter. Not a real photography.
Just buy an M42 adapter, it's cheap. I bought it with my first K-camera, the MESuper. One disadvantage is that the lens must be able to step down on it self.

Please compare it to the Canon 70D in the real world video department (color depth, low light performance, and autofocusing). I'm really torn between which one I should buy.
Canon 70D pluses - better auto focus, touch screen, 7fps Pentax k-70 pluses - 20%mp, 100% view finder, In-camera stabilization, better weather sealing, Better Dynamic range, Better low light, pixelshift feature, 4k time lapse, a little smaller and lighter, $350 cheaper

Pentax K70 big minus you left out- Only 11 focus points? Come on Pentax its the year 2016. Unacceptable, but otherwise a good camera for the money.
I would get the Pentax. The body is made of thick hard plastic, which is very good quality. It also is weather sealed, so you could get it pretty banged up. A lot of the specs are also alot better two.
+Traveler777 who really cares about the number of focus points.... i could have 200 of them and i would still only use one.... more focus points is just a gimmick.... gimme more fps if anything

this, k3 or ks2?
Really it's this or the K-3 ii. I can't see a need to buy the K-S2 anymore.
The K3/K5 range have faster burst rates and bigger buffers, twin card slots, can take an external grip, have a faster max shutter speed, shutter and body are stronger and rated for longer life etc. The two Pentax range categories have quite different focusses underneath.
"review" is maybe a little too much for this video :P Hands-on maybe is a little bit more appropriate IMHO
