At least SONY didn't forget about its futuristic racing franchise
I mean, they did shut down the studio who made it and have done nothing but the remaster since the release of 2048... I love this genre, but it is often a depressing one =( Thankfully games like BallisticNG, Redout, and Fast Racing Neo/Fast RMX have done a good job of keeping it alive
Another amazing series that is being neglected by Sony. WIpeout 1-3 deserve a rerelease.
Instead of the Fury expansion (which was a big let-down) they should have made DLC packs with the best tracks from each game in the original trilogy, properly remade, instead of shitty VR versions we got in other releases).
Can't wait for the review of GT Sport, if your still interested in that series
The Fury ships don't actually have better stats - the stats are just representative of dozens of hidden handling and physical properties of the ship. For example, most of the Fury ships are much heavier than the HD ships and handle with more "bulk", the HD Icarus is a lot more nimble and occasionally faster than the Fury Icarus. The 'bonus' stats are basically a marketing gimmick, you can do well with any ship!
Love the Wipeout series, look forward into digging into these games that I missed out on Ps3&vita.

One of my all time racing favorites, I love it.
Is the PS4 version 60 fps in splitscreen? I only have the PS3 version and that one locks to 30 once you enter splitscreen, makes it feel like a different game.
It's 60 on PS4 and both PS4 Pro modes (DigitalFoundry did an analysis), regardless of output resolution. I'm looking forward to getting it myself.

i bought it on ps3. kinda wishing i had just got the original ps1 classic wipeout instead, i had a lot more fun with that. better tracks and just felt more intense to me. all the trippy strobe light colors in hd don't help it for me and all the different race modes, half of which just aren't very fun. guess i'm in the minority, but as someone who loved the original, i was pretty disappointed with hd.

Sony closed Studio Liverpool and have not released a new Wipeout game in ages. As such, I haven't bought any more consoles from them. PS3 was the last one I got. The game is a system seller for me.
I used to play this game every day for three month straight, watching yt videos, trying to shave off 0.03 seconds in each sitting;p

I loved this game, I remember getting it for free when the Sony servers were down. Would've never found out about it otherwise I'm pretty sure

I bought omega collection few days ago it's amazing
This was the first pirated PS3 game that i booted after getting the 3.55 CFW on my system. That was back when the security was poorly understood and the only installable PSN games floating around where DEBUG versions. I do legitimately own Wipeout 3 on PSX and the two PSP games despite being able to play back ups on both those systems. The main reason I never picked this up was because there was no boxed release in North America. Physical media >> digital license. Dunno about the PS4 version. PS3 was the last console that I bothered with. They really don't seem worth it the last two generations especially when my PC can play games going decades back including emulating a lot of older consoles.

I was never a fan of the Fury ships having better stats than the standard ones, hor Omega they should have just gave the Fury stats to all ships and made the difference purely cosmetic.

This was also my first WipEout game, love the zone mode. Bought Pulse, years later to get back into the series after I forgot about HD. PAL versions got physical copies apparently but I bought it 2012 or so and learned more about the series. Bought Omega collection with the Sam mindset to get into the recent games. Own the PS VITA version (2048) and Fury DLC which was awesome. Best racing game, but the modes can get repetitive. Also Techno is a Electronic Dance Music genre. Not what your talking about. As an EDM fan I find it misused and it bugs me. The soundtrack has Drum and Bass and House genres tracks. You can even tell by switching the soundtrack genres in the settings. So as an EDM fan, please don't say techno, as the songs used are not techno, techno as a genre is very different to this music. EDM is the umbrella term to use by EDM fans of any genres like House, Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Electro and more. Thank you. Love the review though. Same feelings about the game as you since had the same path to explore the WipEout series besides also owning Pulse on PSP fo before I got Omega Collection for Christmas.
Also as a EDM (Electronic Dance Music) fan, please don't say Techno, EDM is the umbrella term/collective word your looking for. The game has artists that made Drum and Bass, House and more. The settings even have a Drum and Bass, and House soundtrack setting in the options. That should be enough proof. EDM is say Dubstep (everyone knows Dubstep), House, Breakbeat (a more common 90's genres before drum and bass) Drum and Bass, Techno, and lots of genres. Please use EDM or Electronic Dance Music as the proper term. Especially as a fan telling an outsider it lets you know to others what your talking about. Thanks. But yeah the game has Drum and Bass/House soundtracks from famous artists. I haven't heard of all of them since I listen to more niche EDM artists as my start but still. :)
Even Gran Turismo has Breakbeat, Trance and older EDM which surprised me. Which after finding out is the reason I think of GT4 as might start to EDM without realizing besides getting into other electronic sounds in other games.

He wasn't talking about the series. He was talking about HD which released in 2008 and he reviewed in 2018. That made it 10 years old at the time of the review.
