Great video, as always. Question; if you verticut warm season grass, will cutting up those stolens produce thicker grass, i.e., making those stolens smaller force them to spread and grow more?
I don't recommend it. It will not make them any thicker or stimulate growth in St Augustine. Instead what it will do is open the lawn up for weed invasions. With St Augustine it's important to keep it knit tight always. Bermuda and zoysia are a different story but with those, we just scalp them in the spring so no need for verticutting there either. whenever it stops growing. There may be a point where it isn't growing but you need to get leaves up and it's ok to run over it again then. For the cut height, I recommend cool season grasses be mowed at 3-3.5" during the season and for winter, the last cut you can take down to 2.75 or so. In other words, one notch lower than your normal cut height.

I’m running my own experiment here in Tampa with a blue mix, and actually so far it’s looking better than St. Augustine. Do you recommend any special products other than 16-4-8, with Florida weather?
I don't recommend 16-4-8 here in Florida. We have plenty of phos in our soils naturally. If you download my free app called "yard mastery" it will give you a program based on soil Temps and where you live.
@@TheLawnCareNut thank you. The main thing that I’m afraid of since I just seeded, is the influx in our temperature here in the Tampa area! If I put too much nitrogen I might stress, and if I tried to put to much potassium I’ll compact the soil! That’s why I was wondering about your recommendation with a blue mix down here (40% of it is Kentucky Blue). Again thank you.
@@Boudii81 TBH, I have no idea how to take care of KBG here in FL. It's pretty much just like doing a rye overseed and that will look good most of the winter but die in spring when temps and humidity burn it to the ground. I'd be curious to see how far into 2024 it actually lives. But for sure, you will never compact your soil here. It's all sand and our soils lack potassium.

cool season lawns 5.2 grams per gallon for fall. Warm season lawns 13 grams per gallon for fall. There are different allowances for the differing grass types.

Don't know where you think you live, but here in Bradenton we haven't had rain in atleast 2 months. Its been a very dry year and our lawns have suffered from it.
yes I'm in Bradenton too. That's why I posted the clip of Denis Philips showing the drought. We actually did get some rain in August that was enough to keep lawns from suffering too badly (including hurricane Idalia) but before that, you are correct, severe drought. I know this because I mow my neighbor's lawn and he doesn't run his irrigation - his lawn has been just fine the last 45-60 days but now you can see it drying up. And keep in mind, I speak to all of FL and the east coast had the opposite of us - they had massive flooding and downpours
@Thelawncarenut yes, exactly. I'm on the east coast of Florida. Palm Coast, to be exact. Between the cities of St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. We've had so much rain that I'm grateful for dry season to arrive. I use a water gauge that I poke into the soil to gauge the moisture. The needle will point to red (dry) green (perfect) and blue (saturated.) Wherever I gauge my lawn, the needle points to blue. By the time it gauges on green, the dormancy will possibly go into full effect. 🤷♂️
Well, this is interesting... Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson. ASMR is a subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin." It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.
I appreciate the feedback! You and many others have expressed this. I thing what I will do next year is have a mix of both. I'll keep these "weekend updates" going and then do the more formal videos during the week.

Allyn, apologies but you lost me on the app rate for prodiamine for liquid (backpack) application. If that's covered in either your Winter Lawn Guide or latest Pre-Emergent Guide I missed it. Can you help?
check out the bottom part of the description here. That gives you the app rates by grass type - hope that helps! thelawncarenut.com/collections/pre-emergents-1/products/prodiamine-65-wdg-pre-emergent-herbicide
Not only do most sprayers leak when you dance/agitate - they leak when you hit the 4 gallon mark - all down the back of my shirt into my jeans and undies. I was sweating so much - I never felt it.
I cringed just thinking about that ha ha!
@@TheLawnCareNut thank you, I do appreciate your feedback. Last season I tested with Scott’s Rapid grass (sun and shade mix) just to see how it will fair. It did great until May, then i lacking the knowledge I applied a 28-0-0, that was efficient enough to kill about 70% of my back yard. Sorry I get carried away with the lawn story!! Again, thank you for taking the time to respond, I really do appreciate it.
Also, do you use anything post emergent for the tropical signal grass and goose grass?
I have a bottle from 2021 and it says do 5.2 grams per 1000 sq ft. Your video mentioned 13 something. Which is accurate?😊
cool season lawns 5.2 grams per gallon for fall. Warm season lawns 13 grams per gallon for fall. There are different allowances for the differing grass types.
Thank you
I tried clicking on "FREE guides and newsletter" in the description. I got "404 Not Found"🤣
Thanks for letting me know! we are working on updating everything - we had to change our website which killed a bunch of the links. Here is the newsletter page: thelawncarenut.com/pages/lcn-newsletter-signup
14:34 - That’s what she said.
You didn't pull that dog fennel by the sprinkler head right at the end of the video!
I know! Missed opportunity. 🤣
"I've been getting it up for years." Sponsored by gas station pills...lol
what does ASMR mean in the video?
google it. It's an entire genre of content. Enjoy the rabbit hole 😂
Thanks Brother, I appreciate you and all your content. @@TheLawnCareNut
I cried a little when you pulled up that stolen.😒
Same it hurt my soul
Moment of silence for that grass stolen 😢
Florida has a FALL ??? Try living in Idaho
Why not just say crabgrass, their both the same(grassy weeds)
That looks more like crab grass
scared to wake up the neighbors? Must have been early when you found the bahia
Oh it hurts me when you start yanking on good grass....
Me too !
Alan, how come you weren't wearing any PPE spraying that brew, not even boots, your wife going to beat on you.
Maybe watch again. I had on full PPE including spray boots. 😁
@@TheLawnCareNut be careful not worth inhaling that stuff, besides it will turn your hair silver.
I cringe every time I see you rip out those beautiful stolens...
Much prefer that subdued BAHIA GRASS exclamation. The yelling and over modulation has gotten old.
Please dont go back to those overly edited videos. These are much better.
I appreciate the feedback! You and many others have expressed this. I thing what I will do next year is have a mix of both. I'll keep these "weekend updates" going and then do the more formal videos during the week.
@@TheLawnCareNut thats great to hear
