Excellent job with the bunny Al, I saved a young bird this summer that was wedged in the metal frame of my windmill it’s a good feeling when they come to.......it took my dude hours but he got up little by little and ended up flying away. Loved the throwback Indy footy as well🤝
LCN. I want to say thanks so much for all the great info you have given out over the years. Here's hoping everyone has a safe decent winter. Much gratitude from Canada!
You are the absolute BEST!!!! And the reason I've become a bit of a Lawn Care Nut myself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and commitment to helping others know better to do better! 🙌🙌
Thanks for this! We just moved into a nice neighborhood where most of the neighbors pay for lawn care services, that is not in the budget so your videos are helping me find a budget friendly way to keep my lawn looking nice without the price tag.
I’ve been a subscriber and watcher of your channel for almost eight months now. I finally stumbled across this vid where you slowly and clearly described the ratio for Nitrogen rates and I finally get it! ( yeah…I’m a bit slow….only eight months to get it). I lost 80% if my Turf grass lawn this summer (in north Atlanta) because of the heat and general conditions of my yard and grass seed that went down last fall (crappy seed). I did all my own work this year and used your vids and app to select the seed, fertilizers and overall “how to” and it’s all starting to come back. In short, just thank you for passing your knowledge on to us to become lawn care nuts like you!
Al, you have taught me a lot about getting and keeping a dominate lawn. For that I am grateful, so it is my duty to tell you to either ditch the butt duster on your upper lip or grow a goatee. For real thank you from one of the best looking lawns in northwest Indiana.
My wife and daughter about lost their minds when you pulled that bunny out, and to watch your efforts to see it through to hopping away. Hats off, good show 👏🏾
I built my current home in 2016. My yard is mostly nasty clay. I’ve been embracing the suck trying to get a nice lawn. I have been binge watching your video’s. I love the knowledge. Looking forward to spring to keep on making strides. Thanks!
I actually really like clay soil. If you keep the lawn properly irrigated and use organic fert and carbon (like humic) your clay will do very well! Lots of fun ahead for you!
In central California we really don’t have a winter. Normally stays above 39 at night, never any snow. So my cool season grass continues to grow nicely until spring time. Soon as summer comes around, holy moly I’m fighting Bermuda like mad
Hey Allyn, Just wanted to let you know I started watching your channel around three years ago. You have been a big help, I started with weeds and more weeds and some bare spots no grass and now fall of 2019 it looks amazing. Your channel isn’t the only I watch but it was the first and one thing that I’m proud to say that I listened to you was not to do a renovation leave the weeds and start building turf and slowly work the weeds out it really worked. I still have a few weeds but by spring I hope to be weed free and I’m very proud of my yard. Thank you
Wow... Finally getting the Fert portion due to watching your vids a few times and subscribing to your news letter! I only have a small lawn 1,000sq ft...But I do have a large portion of un land scrapped land (approx another 2,000sqft) I am preparing to landscape and mostly lawn! Your vids have been huge on the confidence and knowledge not to mention now your podcast!!
Great video, lots of good info. Brings back memories seeing that Indiana footage. Remember that when I first started watching your channel in 2011, crazy how far the lawn care nut community has grown since then.
I still go back and watch your old videos. I like the ones when you took JTLK under your wings and showed him how to "Throw'er down!" Or your old Christmas light videos.. always good content!
I love it that you guy always bring a refresher course. Winterizing has been on my mind but I haven’t been able to understand it fully. Every time you bring reminders I get more success! Thanks! I was worried about my leftover carbon x and that it is a quick release fert. I’ll throw it down soon!
I love math and another way you can explain how to get the "pounds in the ground" is take you amount you want and divide it by the percentage of nitrogen. For example, goal of 1 lbs of N ÷ .32 = 3.125 lbs of product.
This is one of those humanitarian type videos that could go viral and triple your subscribers!! I'm sure the rabbit will be back in the future to visit.
Well I know you are busy doing great work......So I called site one and for northeast grasses as long as the ground is not frozen yet(their words) and my lawn still looks greenish(my words for you ...Allyn) ....not dormant....a good slow release is fine. Site One recommends a 18-0-12 they have but I am going with the LCN's advice and going High on the Nitro.....so Scott's has this: Scotts Turf Builder Winter guard Fall Lawn food- 32-0-10........Note lawn FOOD!!!!! I listened ALLYN...thank you. I hope you like my choice.....
Thanks for yet another great video , lots of info as usual. Lawn stats: Mow height is 4.5" Grass type: Floratam mixed with Palmetto Bad: Lots of crabgrass, brown patch, and some bare areas. Good: Weeds seem somewhat under control, finally, lol Didn't know about the watering schedule though will keep that in mind during the winter. 👍
So glad to hear you update everyone that Nitrogen is not needed for warm season grasses headed into dormancy. University extensions say that nitrogen late in the season for warm season grasses is linked to winter kill
I think an interesting topic would be how to factor in mulched leaves when applying fertilizer. I get a TON of leaves that I mulch into my lawn and I’m never quite sure how much nitrogen gets tied up in those carbon-heavy mulched leaves.
Again, great video Allyn. I have 2 bags of ringer lawn restore left over. Thanks for demo on calculating pounds on the ground again. It finally clicked! Got it!!👍 I'll throw'er down.
I don't like the yearly population of bunnies eating on my grass, but it always grows back when they move on. They have to eat too. Good bunny saving footage!
Once again great tips from Allyn. Thx for that bro. I was always under the assumption that high nitrogen late in the season for cool season grass types would push growth in the colder months hence putting the lawn at risk of getting damaged. Your tips have always been right so i will put the winterizer down. Still fairly "warm" approx 50 Fahrenheit here in Germany.
Allyn, I thought the goal of a "winterizer" was to have the turf uptake and store the nitrogen over the winter to have it available for the spring when it comes out of hibernation. If the turf does not injest the N before the ground freezes, runoff is possible and a majority of the prills won't be available when the turf is eager to injest them in the spring warm-up. This is why you want to use a quick release before the ground freezes so it is stored in the plant. Also, using a bio-solid like milo is counterproductive as a winterizer since 1)it won't be injested in time since microbes are not around in the cooler temps when a winterizer is typically applied to produce the available nitrogen and 2)by the time the microbes will be active (mid to late spring), its too late and last 3)the chances of prill run-off is very high esp if your cool season climate is prone to heavy spring rains (april). So as long as the nitrogen is available and injested prior to the turf going dormant (whether it is a prill or liquid)...your turf will be happy and ready for prime time in the spring.
Found the secret stash of fert a Walmart a couple weeks ago. They put Milo on sale back in July for $5 a bag and a bought all they had. I’m working on the scotts lawn food now at $4 a bag. Couple bags a week all winter should have me stocked up for next year.
Love that I have found your channel. Finally channeling my mid 30s inner powers and have really been studying a lawn care system. Can’t wait to get started this year. Planning on doing a backyard renovation with a TTTF blend. Also love seeing your NW Indiana properties. I live here in SW Indiana in Evansville, however my fiancé is from Munster.
Im looking forward to the next video. Down here in Ft. Lauderdale Im still cutting twice a week with no end in sight. Put down prodiamine two weeks ago and xgrn this past Thursday. Im trying to get rid of come crabgrass and sedge for a stronger comeback next summer
Thanks for all the info. Was getting ready for the final Mow tomorrow then getting the mower ready for winter storage, looks like I’ll do a final throw as well.
Where else can I go to hear turgor pressure talk as well as see a trench shovel rescue? Exactly. Great video, Allyn. 😎 BTW, every time I eat celery I talk and joke about the turgor pressure (something I learned in college). Nobody likes limp celery!
Great video, thanks for breaking down the math. I do have a question trying to understand a little bit better. The bag say it covers 5,000 sq ft. According to my measurements to my yard I have just a little over 15,00sq ft. so I need 3 bags or maybe just a little more. Now if I do 3lbs of N, would I need more bags if fertilizer to get the right amount? Thanks
When I bought some fert earlier in the summer they had that Scotts southern lawn food come with the fert for free. It has been sitting in my garage ever since. Good thing I can use it now. Throwin it down!
Allyn love the john Holmes stache. I have to say in my opinion that empire zoysia you have is a stunning warm season grass. You should make that a monostand throughout your entire yard.
I am still trying to get my lawn I ruined reseeded. But everytime I get it all prepared and seeded it rains like a mother and washes the seed away. Even with using pennington starter mats. So I took every seed bag from Scotts, Fairway, Rebels.......I had and I 'threw her down.' I got so much seed down the dirt was screaming for mercy. And sure enough another huge rain came. But after 10 days some seed is actually coming up. But now the weather will hang around 55 to 59 and nights go down to 50 or lower. So who knows what will happen. To bad we can't have a warm November like the other year.
Puttin down lots of grow power 5-0-5 rich in humic acid and potassium for going into winter - 5% N for p. Rye. Will totally help out come spring! Thanks Allyn!
Thanks for all your great contents. I bought my first home here in Houston last summer and you’ve been a great help to me. We don’t get much winter here. Should we still following these recommendations as it regards to St. Augustine?
Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time I feel alive And the world, I'll turn it inside out Yeah! I'm floating around In ecstasy So don't stop me now, don't stop me 'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time
Yes it snowed on Halloween but it also made the trees drop all of their leaves all at once on top of the snow! what a mess! wet mushy leaves totally covered the lawn
At 3:00 Actually, Amazon has about a hundred choices. That's where I bought an 18 lb. bag Andersons PGF Complete 16-4-8 Fertilizer with Humic acid. I'm not trying to plug an ad, I'm just throwing an option out there.
In regards to 32-0-10. Since those numbers make up percentages of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium that means those values (32-0-10) only makes up 42% of the fertilizer. Where/what is the other 58%? Thanks Alyn, you're helping me out a lot with my not even a year old lawn
After today's mow I put out about 45# of CarbonX with a RGS chaser (.5#/1000sq ft). Ran out of time for a weed spot treatment, so that may have to wait until next week.
Lot's of good information. I live in California where our coldest winter in the Bay Area only reaches down to the mid 30's, would it be a good idea to lay down some fertilizer when the days are in the low 60's?
Thanks for the great videos you put out. I live in North Texas, what item should I put down as we head to the Fall/Winter? Is winterizer products good to put down? I notice in the winter I see more weeds. Thanks for any response. Keep making these awesome and educational videos.
I missed my fall fertilizer application we got several inches of snow on Halloween and then again this week. the ground is now snow covered and frozen.
My zoysia did not go dormant last winter (Central Florida). I was mowing on Christmas Day. I'll be looking forward to your tropical season fall lawn fertilizer video. My soil sample came back really low on N, K and Fe so am interested in knowing what is still safe to put down this late in the Florida summer.
Here in Michigan we had a dusting of snow on Halloween on the 28th l mowed at 2.5" and threw down my winterizer hopefully from the video I watched l wasn't to early
Is watering in the fertilizer as important in late Fall? My irrigation system has been winterized and I have over 20k of area to get wet. Love the channel!
Where has this stash been my whole life?
#MowVember
Excellent job with the bunny Al, I saved a young bird this summer that was wedged in the metal frame of my windmill it’s a good feeling when they come to.......it took my dude hours but he got up little by little and ended up flying away. Loved the throwback Indy footy as well🤝
Probably the best lawn care video yet. The questions answered were awesome
impressed how much of a difference the fall fertilizer makes in spring. Seems second most important to preemergent
Thanks for this! We just moved into a nice neighborhood where most of the neighbors pay for lawn care services, that is not in the budget so your videos are helping me find a budget friendly way to keep my lawn looking nice without the price tag.

"Cheap & Easy" pretty much sums up my high school years.
LMAO!!!!!

My wife and daughter about lost their minds when you pulled that bunny out, and to watch your efforts to see it through to hopping away. Hats off, good show 👏🏾
And great video, thanks for the tips
I keep coming back because you helped my yard become the best in my neighborhood. Cool season turf here in Tulsa!
I built my current home in 2016. My yard is mostly nasty clay. I’ve been embracing the suck trying to get a nice lawn. I have been binge watching your video’s. I love the knowledge. Looking forward to spring to keep on making strides. Thanks!

By far the best video regarding winterizing your lawn. Great work!

🤘 Nice work bro!!! Love it.
The classic era, my favorite!
it's fun to go back to the green screen for sure!
It's been a while since I've watched LCN videos, and now, here I am. Back. Beautifully done.
Welcome back 👊
Anyone else ever hear Allen’s intro and immediately want to run out and mow the lawn? 🤣 🙌🏻
Great video stacked with information. Love the tip to find the ding and dent items for a discount! Solid
Wow... Finally getting the Fert portion due to watching your vids a few times and subscribing to your news letter! awesome bro! Sounds like you have some winter planning underway already for next year.
@@TheLawnCareNut About to purchase your cool season guide for that very reason!!
Great video, lots of good info. Brings back memories seeing that Indiana footage. Remember that when I first started watching your channel in 2011, crazy how far the lawn care nut community has grown since then.
What a great channel Alan! Our lawn is going to be VERY happy Spring 2023
I miss these style of videos. Great stuff, Al.
thanks bro

It's a really good winterizer. That chicken litter will feed microbes in spring as well. They will love it.

Awesome .. Running to get thr potash. Great video sir
Loved the old green screen and the shots of the old house. That yard set the bar I’m trying to achieve 😁

Essentially rebadged southern lawn food(32-0-10)....Right????
And Lowes has it in stock.
My winterizer was Andersons 44-0-0 HCU spiked with RGS and Air-8.
Thanks for yet another great video , lots of info as usual.

What mower do you use..I'm looking for one that can cut up to 5
Loved the old school LCN video with green screen! That took me back to when I first found your channel.
So glad to hear you update everyone that Nitrogen is not needed for warm season grasses headed into dormancy. University extensions say that nitrogen late in the season for warm season grasses is linked to winter kill
Potassium rules. Girls drool.
Great video! Very helpful this time of year. The driveway at 12:09 might be the hidden gem of this video.
I think an interesting topic would be how to factor in mulched leaves when applying fertilizer. I get a TON of leaves that I mulch into my lawn and I’m never quite sure how much nitrogen gets tied up in those carbon-heavy mulched leaves.
Aaron M hard to say. I think you’re mostly getting micro nutrients from the leaves. No need for bio stim packs!
Allyn Hane, Full Time LCN who moonlights as a Rabbit Whisperer on the side!
I love your videos! Thanks so much for all you do and the information you provide. I’ve watched your videos all year long and my lawn looks amazing.
awesome bro!
Just got a house. Really helpful description.
I liked the layered overlay narration in this video👍👍👍Save the bunny😎👊
Layered overlay. 🤔
ohh the memories of videos with you inserted into the video in Indiana. My favorites, I still watch those!
Love the old school video. My favorite of all time is when you were signing "September Lawns" and you went and got your hair cut. Classic!
that one goes way back ha ha!
Again, great video Allyn. I have 2 bags of ringer lawn restore left over.
Thanks for demo on calculating pounds on the ground again. It finally clicked! Got it!!👍

Turf will store carbohydrates for the Winter. No loss.
Ahhh yes, love the OG green screen video style. More please!

you're welcome! It was fun to do some green screen again.
Thank you again for your knowledge! But that baby bunny resque was epic!❤
He is doing good too!

What about warm season grasses that are being over seeded with rye? Is any fert recommended?
I want to see some more footage of the little bunny.
When I bought some fert earlier in the summer they had that Scotts southern lawn food come with the fert for free. It has been sitting in my garage ever since. Good thing I can use it now. Throwin it down!
thrower down!
Great information, was wondering if I needed to fertilize again here in UT thanks! I’ll throw er down!! How nice of you to rescue the lil bunny. 🐰 🙂
I was super pumped. I jumped on an Amazon sale that had the Scotts standard fert 15,000 sq ft bag for like $25. Just threw that down.
good find!
loved how you saved the bird man.
No Halloween vlog this year? Those are the best.
Allyn love the john Holmes stache. I have to say in my opinion that empire zoysia you have is a stunning warm season grass. You should make that a monostand throughout your entire yard.
Oh hell yeah I got a "like" from LCN. You go brother
LOL that rabit kept you honest on your weed maintanance,
Thanks for all your great contents. I bought my first home here in Houston last summer and you’ve been a great help to me. We don’t get much winter here. Should we still following these recommendations as it regards to St. Augustine?
lawn care nut i live in Iowa i always mow my lawn short for the winter because i like hand raking the lawn come spring
Loving the Ethiopian caterpillar above your lip.
🤣👊
Tonight
I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive
And the world, I'll turn it inside out
Yeah!
I'm floating around
In ecstasy
So don't stop me now, don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time
Nice video! Love the old LCN green screen mixed with old footage! Super cool!
Yes it snowed on Halloween but it also made the trees drop all of their leaves all at once on top of the snow! what a mess! wet mushy leaves totally covered the lawn
Gosh I miss your old yard. Move back!
Do you need to dethatch?
Good work saving that little bunny!
Came here for the winterizer.....but glad I stayed for the bunny lol
After today's mow I put out about 45# of CarbonX with a RGS chaser (.5#/1000sq ft). Ran out of time for a weed spot treatment, so that may have to wait until next week.
Lot's of good information. I live in California where our coldest winter in the Bay Area only reaches down to the mid 30's, would it be a good idea to lay down some fertilizer when the days are in the low 60's?
Wow I thought the bunny was a goner..guess he didnt drown..just unconscious. Wow great timing.
Thanks for the great videos you put out. I live in North Texas, what item should I put down as we head to the Fall/Winter? Is winterizer products good to put down? I notice in the winter I see more weeds. Thanks for any response. Keep making these awesome and educational videos.
Great video once again Allyn and I did like how you presented the information 👍👍.
Great video! It helps me and my son with our lawns.
Make no mistake it was the miracle mustache that saved the rabbit
I've got a lot of sarah the illstrumentalists songs saved in the que for future vids. Good choice
chill beats for sure.
I missed my fall fertilizer application we got several inches of snow on Halloween and then again this week. the ground is now snow covered and frozen.
just get out super early in spring and you will be all good.
Awesome info - thanks, Alan! I like how you cut through the marketing b.s. to give us the straight scoop. Very helpful for all of us!👍🏼 #LCNFTW
Did my last mow today in Shorewood over by 'der near Chicaga. Threw down fitty lbs of 22-0-4 on 8k sq. My N should be good to go 😜
over dare 🤘
Literally editing a video on this topic right now! Great video Allyn as always.
Love the old time style videos.👍🏼
My zoysia did not go dormant last winter (Central Florida). I was mowing on Christmas Day. I'll be looking forward to your tropical season fall lawn fertilizer video. My soil sample came back really low on N, K and Fe so am interested in knowing what is still safe to put down this late in the Florida summer.
Just tell me what to set my spreader on!! 😀😀😀
Here in Michigan we had a dusting of snow on Halloween on the 28th l mowed at 2.5" and threw down my winterizer hopefully from the video I watched l wasn't to early
Hi, so I don't need to put weed control down in the fall in the north prior to winterizing? Great video.
Is watering in the fertilizer as important in late Fall? My irrigation system has been winterized and I have over 20k of area to get wet. Love the channel!
