I have had my grandfathers chair since he passed away in 1987. It has gone everywhere with me,college, first apartment, first home after getting married and thru 7 more moves. It is still with me in our”rest of our lives” home. I finally felt like my skills had developed enough to reupholster it. Well, as I was pulling off the fabric on the back an old envelope fell out. I almost fainted when I opened it. It was full of hundred dollar bills. There were three more that had fell to the bottom😲🥹😁He lived thru the depression and used to bury his money in mason jars in the back yard so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised… but I was😃🥰
We’ll keep sharing parts of the home as we update the spaces 😄 We made a wonderful decision to take the last 1.5 years off remodeling to travel the world after exhausting ourselves with the complete renovation of our first home that we did all on our own and getting the major spaces in this home completed. 🙌 We’ve been sharing any “forever finds” in our videos as we find them and show them in the spaces 😊 We’re not quite sure when we’ll get back to renovations but we’ll post about them as soon as we do!
@@leftcoastrevivalsYou deserve a break and I am happy for you guys getting to really live life and when you are feeling rested, you can come over and give my house a make over 😅. No? Can't blame a woman for asking! Well wishes!
@@treeannie8831 Good luck, you'll eventualy stumble across a piece. I learned what Bitossi 'Rimini Blue' vases were, watching Laura's videos here, because I had once unknowingly picked one up, then put it back on the shelf, because I wasn't sure to get it or not. The colour had caught my eye and it was ONLY $5 ! When I saw Laura featuring them, here on her channel, I was so annoyed with myself. It was so cool, when I spotted my 2 orange and white teak lidded jars. :-)!
Another Claudia here from Germany who adores Laura. One day I was in a charity shop in Garmisch and saw a small white Kaiser vase for 3€. But I didn't buy it. In the evening I watched Laura's latest video and she found exactly this vase in Portland and was really happy about it... I was so annoyed with myself... the next day I took the train back to Garmisch - the vase was gone... but months later I found it in Munich and I love it. Because of Laura I also have now a "small" Bitossi collection with a cat, the long Dackel / dachshund, ram + fish, pigs, Bitossi vases, ashtray, candle holders... thank you Laura. love you ~ you inspired me very much ❣
Years ago, I got one of those little brass dishes with the lady and her darling little bottom. Mine had been handled so much that her bottom was smooth and shiny. I was amazed to hear she has some value.
I love it so much when you do the Oregon coast. I have a cousin in Astoria, have shopped the Wheeler antique store many times and was born in Tillamook but lived out in Pacific City. The last time I was at the Tillamook Goodwill, I had my mother with me and she had so much fun with me paying for whatever she found. She’s passed on now and I’m so happy to have that memory.❤️
I have a major box addiction! I collect all kinds of boxes....wood, metal, plastic, resin. I love them and Idky. I've even found myself wanting to keep cute cardboard boxes, wtf. 😂 BTW Laura, you're the one that changed my life! I had no idea about reselling until I accidentally stumbled upon a video of yours back in Jan 2024. Now I'm on my way to becoming a successful reseller, and living a better life. Thank you thank you thank you! I'm forever grateful! I hope to meet you some day and join y'all on one of your fabulous vacas! 😘
Ohhh, your finds, Laura and Jesse. Love the clam light concept so much. I was amazed at how much I actually liked the taller brown lamp after you added the shade, I am more Art Deco or Victorian/Edwardian for lamps/light fixtures. I also absolutely love boxes and trinket holders, etc. You have an amazing eye, Laura. Your staging is second to none. Always drool over your vintage clothing finds. Thank you so much, guys ❤
Yes! I absolutely LOVE the Oregon coast. Can’t get enough of it. It’s my happy place and since moving away from the PNW, I can’t get there as often as I used to! So much thanks for sharing! 🙏💚💚💚
Great idea with the clan shell. I have a collections I started around 1968. Some have value, some have sentimental value and some just have the memory/ fun just liked them. I think my most special is made from a stack of silver coins from Indian that have a removable screw off top. The center is hollowed out so you can see both sides of the coins on top and the coin on the bottom. I know, it sounds confusing but it terrific!
Laura&Jesse, I definitely do not have to tell you this because you already know that lighting is everything in design! So, kudos to you both! AND Jesse and I totally agree on you opinion of Brian Adams, great musician! Some of his music was phenomenonal, especially when he collaborated with the fabulous Tina Turner with It's only Love and obviously you two know a thing or two about the subject of love! Keep up the fantastic work! Your videos and finds are superb!
Shaking my head at Jesse and the doll. I have a similar doll that I carried everywhere 65 years ago. Her name is Sleepyhead. She was well loved. Actually, it was quite funny! Thanks for the video treat on Halloween! Shell light is fabulous!
Another great episode!Funny how you started out with the defective carts. I’m notorious for finding the worst cart that needs a wheel alignment or has the worst squeak or rhythmic thunk! My husband or kids can usually find me in any random store by tracking down the annoying sound!😂 Loved the brass clam. Always a fan of brass. It was really hot in the 70s when we got married and I’ve loved it ever since.Ah oh- showing my age! I think anything organic even if it represents nature is a cool thing to have in your home. Looks great so far. I’ve actually seen little round light bulbs that sure would look like a pearl if that’s the look you’re still going for. Been enjoying your little blooper filming at the end. You guys are so fun! A pleasure to watch!❤
I definitely loved the soap dish! I would buy that if I saw it. I love that you’ve added Jesse as a regular in your videos. He has such a fun personality. The two of you together are so cute!
I, too, have an absolute obsession with old boxes and also have a big collection of them. I love Tramp Art/Folk Art boxes and especially if there are hand written inscriptions on them. My favorite is a hand painted box, dated 1918 where someone had penned a whole love poem on the bottom. Another one is a pencil case signed by both a father in 1928 and his son in 1965. I just love those little written messages from the past. You seem to find these kind of inscriptions most often on old boxes and in old books, and I collect both. Very envious of your studded find 🙂
Love, love the clam light! It was very fun watching the idea come to life between you two. I so wish my hubby was game to tag along for some antique shopping. You are blessed Laura……..and, so are you Jesse! ❤
Maybe this will be unpopular but I would polish just the inside of the shell. Like the inside of real shells are so smooth and shiny. I love it either way! I so look forward to my quiet time with your videos!!
Hi Laura and Jesse love you two shop together and I think your greatest find was the brass shell l love it and putting a light in the middle is absolutely awesome. Laura, I like that you teach us about what you find. I’ve learned so much from you. You have great style. Hope you do well in your pop-ups shop.
First of all, Jesse really has GREAT hair! I could possibly be incorrect, but today's video is the first time I remember seeing him without a baseball cap on! I'm just at your first Goodwill store and I'm already loving that bowl! It's fabulous!!! Also, that cast iron dish with the lady on the front & then on the back of the dish peeking through is her "backside", I love that as well! Did you say it was cast iron? If so, I'd use it as a trinket dish rather than a soap dish. I'd be afraid that the cast iron would either rust or it'd discolor my soap. Either way, just from the very first store, you've found some awesome items that I'm SO jealous of!
You two are adorable! My husband and I are 6 months shy of our 20th wedding anniversary. I look at you two and think “Couple Goals!” You guys have such a beautiful and pure relationship! The neatest thing about it is that you guys go and do these things together. Many couples have their own friends and hobbies that they don’t share with their spouse. I really do believe that the secret to a loving and fulfilling marriage is to take some plays out of your book! Because my dear you two are paving the way for others to see what partnership in a marriage looks like and how wonderful that can be!! You two are a breath of fresh air! Thank you for sharing your love and life with all of us❤ I live in Iowa but my daughter goes to college in Eugene. I sent her money so she is going to come to your pop up event this weekend!!! I can’t wait to hear all about it. I’m excited for her to go to one of your events! I talk about you all the time so she knows how much It means to me that she’s coming to the show! Great show today, always fun to go to the coast. I'm originally from Portland, I will be visiting the first of November. I have found a small strainer, that I think would be good for your handful of blueberries. I'll get in touch with you when I'm in town.
I am also a collector of boxes .... the Moroccan Thuya wood smells soooooo good! I picked up a few when I was traveling there. Trinket boxes are my go-to souvenir.
It’s so funny because I have two clamshell light fixtures from the 1960s one is pink and one is gold and they each have a round plastic ball around the light bulb. Everyone loves them and people want to buy them but I will never give them up lol also, I love that George Washington Painting. My mother was a huge fan of George Washingtonand she recommended reading Mount Vernon love story.
The brass clam is the bee’s knees! You must let us see its transformation! It’s gorgeous. I’ve had the flu for 4 days and you both have cheered me up so much today.
I love watching you find "treasures"! The clamshell lamp is so great and just needs an old vintage low watt bulb to be a soft glow (nightlight). I am also a box addict and give many away as the box to hold a gift, making it a two part gift. Thank you Laura and Jesse for bringing us along on your fun trips!😍
Consider rub n buff for touching up the metal on the tension pole lamp. Its reversible if you dont like it, and has multiple gold/ brass colors that can be mixed so you can get the absolute perfect tone. Then if you wax the rest of the lamp, it protects the rub n buff touch up, ( rub n buff is made of pigment in carbenuba wax) and the original metal.
I enjoy collecting boxes as well. I enjoyed that you had the vision and Jesse was able to execute your idea. Great clam lamp! I look forward to your videos. Thank you!
I got so excited when you showed the bridge to Astoria, we always visit this place when we go to see my mom. Also we took our kids to see the house the Goonies kids filmed in. Such a special place. I had to visit all the antique store from there and scored a sterling silver many rings bracelet from Mexico for 35 !
I thought about Jesse today when I received my Amazon order because it was…….rubber bands!! I got so excited when I opened the package because I found that I didn’t have any “good” rubber bands a few days ago, and I needed some sturdy ones. So I was relieved and excited to receive my order today, of the “good” rubber bands! If you need some Jesse, I can spot you a few!
