I love this video and you putting the links to the parts needed..I have a 19.5 hp Briggs Gold series engine single cylinder engine that needs the cam replaced like this one to make the compression release work properly...I adjusted the valves this morning and did the "work around" to start the engine and it runs great with no burning of oil or any noticeable oil level movement on the dipstick so I will order the cam and the sump gasket and seals kit tonight and await its arrival..can't wait to fix the engine properly instead of running it now running the risk of possible / probable broken pieces inside it greanding the engine ! Thanks for the informative video !

Not a project for most people. Good work!

The goal of my repair videos is actually to encourage others to attempt repairs on their own. With some basic hand tools and a little mechanical aptitude, I feel that most people could definitely do this job. Thanks!

I ordered the cam and crankcase gasket from your links here..took less than 3 days to get everything and when I went to pop the crankcase back on damaged the seal..so had to order another one and will make sure its right this time.
Hardest part of the job for me was scraping the original gasket off.

@@rosskrause3926 That gasket can really imbed itself in the aluminum. I found that a roll-lok die grinder with a dull scotch bright disk worked the best. I applaud you for not rushing the job, and doing it the right way.

@@OldSoulMillennial I finally got the engine together and started yesterday..finally got the crankshaft seal right and it runs better than ever.

Good evening sir, the connecting rod of my machine broke completely, I can't see the reference, please advise me a connecting rod to use. On the BRIGGS Y STRATTON Professional series 656cc | 20.0 HP . Thank you very much

Thanks for video. HOW DO YOU INSTALL THAT SEAL SPRING? Does Spring fit under the Seal? Around the Seal? I’m stuck! Thanks

Isn't the stuck valve not the intake one?

Uh, i don't have that click on rotating through the valves. But, when i replaced the head gasket, I rotated the flywheel and watched the intake lifter. i could see what seemed like the compression release happening, in that the lifter bumped up some degrees after TDC. Maybe mine is just worn also. Current situation is new carb, new head gasket, very clean valves and piston/cylinder, but white smoke for a few minutes before it surges and then cuts off.

Just in fact ordered brake pucks for my Craftsman YTS300. Has the 21HP Intek. Bought it in Spring of '09, replaced head gasket in summer '18. Have not replaced the pucks before.

@@PapaMav You feel like filming the brake puck replacement? I routinely tow 1000 lbs behind my little mower, and the brakes aren’t as strong as they should be. Definitely something I want to look into.

@@OldSoulMillennial I would be happy to but don't have the equipment for it. There is a terrfic video under Craftsman's "Repair Clinic" showing how easy it is.

My Briggs won't start (I got it for free and don't know the history). Intake valve didn't make that bump or clicky sound so I expected the compression release but when I pulled the engine it was intact. Yours is the first video that suggests it could just be worn and not broken. I think I have to bite the bullet and order a new one.

    • @OldSoulMillennial
      @OldSoulMillennial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It can absolutely be intact, yet be so worn that it doesn't function properly. I would also check your valve guides. Mine had an exhaust valve guide that migrated. I think that is covered in the head gasket replacement video I made. It will be in the video archives.

I replaced the bent aluminum push rod with a steel one-it was cheaper. No ill effects. However, the head gasket replacement I did about 6-8 years ago needs to be redone again (oil burning through the exhuast) gotta luv Brigg's design flaw.

    • @OldSoulMillennial

I look at it this way, for those of us that are mechanically inclined, there are always opportunities to score a free or very cheap repairable machine.

@@OldSoulMillennial agree, it's just a PITA to include a head gasket replacement as "routine maintenance" LOL.

The compression release on the intake valve side. So the intake valve was stuck.

So you should hear that click also when you haven't opened the valve cover and diagnose your engine like that? Great video!

Yes, you are correct. You should be able to hear that click. Thanks!

If you didn't reposition the exhaust valve guide and stake it in this issue may reoccur.B&S should never have built such a POS engine. that also has a blown head gasket problem as well.
