- So I reached out to Viltrox to get my hands on the 27mm 1.2 Pro lens that they just released. Unfortunately due to some misunderstandings, the lens was shipped to me at a later time where I had no time anymore to properly give it a test. But I have found brief moment to test it while preparing for a big video production. It's a beautiful lens that works really well with my Fujifilm X-S20!

I love the look coming from that 27mm. It's sharp enough, colors and contrast are good and the slightly swirly bokeh is also very charming.
Very good explanation, thanks for that (showing all the parts you would need!).
Nice rig! Like that extended handle. Do you prefer it over something like the small rig handle that stays pretty close to the body of the camera?
4:34 kenne ich zu gut :D
Cooles Rig ! Danke für das ausführliche Video 🙏🏻
Sehr sympathisches Video! Nice Kamera(rig)
Pretty cool set up what I like about it, is you strip it down easy and use it as a compact vlog cam/ street cam. Nice one Sammy
Das Video war mal unterhaltsam und lustig! Hat Spaß gemacht zu schauen.
The Viltrox really looks nice, especially in transitions! I have two questions - 1) Which VND or ND do you use? and 2) Do you think the in-body stabilization is enough for the Sigma 18-50mm for video? Thanks and hope you will post a new video soon again!
I use xs20 and sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and it serves me really well
Hey, danke für das Video. Kürzlich gab es ein Firmwareupdate und da wurde der AF noch richtig verbessert. Ich weiß nicht, welche Version Du hattest ? Liebe Grüße Mark
would love to know how the xt4 is against the XS20 for filming.
This 27mm looks like a much better version of your Kamlan 28mm. I'm really looking forward to some videos with this beast ^^
Samuel, let’s goooooo 🔥
Greeting! Could you please make a video comparing the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 and the Sigma 23mm 1.4 for video recording? I'm a videographer and I'm not sure which of these two lenses to buy for video recording. It seems to me that both lenses have a problem with autofocus for video and with focus breathing. Can the new firmware fix this problem? Thank you!
I'm actually curious how the image quality giant 27mm lens compares to the small xf27 pankake at the same aperture. I don't really understand how lens size affect imaging besides a bigger aperture.
Samy is Back 🍭🍭 !!
Love seeing this setup! With all the effort to get this rig done, what made you go with the XS20 vs a S5iix? I'm torn between the two for vlogging especially since the XS20 videos I've watched it can overheat pretty easily. Are you running an external battery on the XS20 as well?
S52x is twice as big - also lenses are enormous
What strap are you using? This is awesome, kitting out my X-S20 rn, heavily inspired from yours
Hello there.
Despite your busy schedule, can you help me out which fuji camera will be best for video. I'm canon user and planning to shift to fuji. Budget is tight but don't wanna start with xh10 Or go upto xt5. Within a budget of $2000. Thank you, Love and regards from India
Hi mate can you please show us how to record prores raw video on xs20 using a monitor
Fujinon gives a very nice image, contrast, vivid, with pretty bokeh.
rly ? i wanted to say opposite thing. Fujinon has so technical and not interesting image . So big difference between Fujinon 1.4 and Viltrox 27mm 1.2
@@mex5341Nope. I use the Fujifilm XF33 f1.4, XF16 f1.4, XF90 f2 and I haven’t touched another lens that comes close to their IQ and bokeh. Not to take anything away from the Viltrox Pro lenses, but there’s a reason Fujifilm glass is expensive. The quality and coatings are nearly unbeatable.
I'm sold now,. I've been contemplating this and Sony a6700. At it's price point, the only thing bummed me is the single card slot. The rest are pretty solid specs
The thing that concerns me is ibis and autofocus. What do think i should choose? I really want but Xs20 and I've been dead set to buy it for a long time now but every yt video says a6700 has better ibis and AF. Have you bought it? If yes then how is it?
I love the look of the 27mm’s bokeh. So much more character. I wish the focus breathing weren’t so bad when manually focusing, that’s the only reason I can’t buy it.
If only Fujifilm added a focus breathing compensation that third party companies could also utilize in their lenses.
@@Nathan-mv3xn would be amazing.
That rig looks like an absurd contraption from the movie Brazil. You seem more like a mad scientist than a video professional.
Autofocus looked good from the Viltrox on the XS-20 as you said. If you had the X-T4, which one would you pick between the Fuji 33 and Viltrox 27 for video?
If the Viltrox is almost at the same level with autofocus as the Fuji 33, I'll go for the 27 1.2.
Depends. What is important to you? The size? - 33mm, The light gathering? - 27mm, Shallow DOF? - 33mm, Wider field of view? - 27mm, Narrower field of view? - 33mm.
Hey, wie ist denn das Feedback nach den ersten Jobs mit der x20 ? Überlege sie anzuschaffen für ein paar imagefilme, Hochzeitsvideos und als Back up Fotokamera? Danke dir fürs Feedback
Sehr schön!
2:51 sounds like you asking where your c4 explosives are 😅😂😂
Schaut sehr gut aus, any chances auf behind the scenes Material von deinem shoot? Grüße und einen schönen Sonntag nach HH
Hello Samuel your videos on xs20 seem very informative and it's giving me the urge to buy one immediately, but as far as i'm seeing from all the reviews they say it overheats, i want to know how has it been with you and have you tested the Fujifilm cooler on it? Do you recommend me buying one or shall i just go for the Xh2s? An advice from you would be great and very much appreciated.
How did it overheat for the other reviewers? Did they run tests or they have experience using the x-s20 at longer shoots? My x-s20 has never overheated and I was once doing a week long shoot where I was shooting all day and no issues. But I never shoot 60p. But 4K and 10-bit is no problem for me. I have the Fujifilm fan but I have never used it because I never needed it. I also shoot 6k a lot for me TH-cam videos. Never had overheating issues. But that is just my experience.
@@SamuelStreetlife thank you so much for the early reply sir, that is very good to know and is a good reason for me to buy one, by the way what's the maximum weather at the place you're shooting at? Because most of what I've seen they say that over 30 Celsius it gets the warning sign just going through the menus for the settings, in my perspective it's because of the firmware, and I'm guessing for 12 hour shoot of a party it wouldn't overheat with the fan on, by the way I'm mostly going to be shooting 1080p 50fps so still will it be alright for it to handle? Like if it is I'm ready to buy the XH2s instead of it but I'm also wanting to buy extra lenses and accessories within that budget range.
@@rastithealpha7704 So where I live it rarely gets warmer than 30 degree celsius but I was in Portugal in summer with the X-S20 before and filmed myself for 25 minutes in 6K and the camera was in the sun the whole time and it was 37 degrees! And no overheating warning. But it probably was close at the limit but I don't know. If you film in 1080p I think overheating will probably never bee any issue. Get the fan just in case and you should be fine.
What a great Day! A new VLOG from Samuel
Ihave fuji x-h2 I have Viltrox 75mm and I very please I am ask you if worthy boy this lens for shooting video ,generally I used 8k422 ore pro res
What kind of gimbal is useful for this camera and lens?
Awesome video bro!
Brother, is there any chance you’d happen to know (or could get) your BTS shooter’s on-mic & in-camera settings for his MKE 400? I’ve tried a fee different settings and can’t seem to avoid extremely strong hissing on mine.
Would be greatly appreciated man . No worries if not, totally understand.
Great video again, cheers brother ✅
Hey! No special settings really; as for compensation settings, I leave it at 0db for both camera and microphone usually. Sometimes I dial down to -6 or -12db in camera depending on the situation. Luckily, I haven’t had the issue you described so far
@@anddavidandyou hey David! Thank you so much for taking the time to share that, I really appreciate your response. I’ll give your settings a try!
Hi, thank you for your content, it is very good! I want to buy the S-20 but nowhere does it indicate that it can record directly to an SSD Drive. Can you do it with all frame rates? Thanks and greetings from Argentina!
It can not, the blackmagic monitor is also an external recorder :)
@@multifabui1398 Thanks for your reply, you have to visit Buenos Aires to do street photography!
Nice video, you are using an external ssd for recording redundancy... Nobody in other reviews mentionned that it is was option. Is it realy? That's great to know.
Yes you can record on both the SD card in the camera and the external recorder so you get two copies of everything you shoot :) But you need an external recorder.
@@SamuelStreetlife tks for your reply. What I understand (and it mentionned in a lot of videos) is that you need something like atmos ninja to record raw externally. But in your case it seemed to me that you were using a standard ssd. Is that so? Are you oblige to record raw on an external or you can record in any format? Thanks a lot
@@MrAntpre My recorder is the Blackmagic Video Assist 12g 5inch. This model records onto SD cards and can record to SSD drives via USB-C. Atomos recorder record on SSD drives only and they need to be in a specific housing. I chose the blackmagic recorder because I find it more versatile and the screen colors are a bit more accurate. You can record RAW on any medium as long as the medium is fast enough (and big enough) to storage the footage. Hope that helps!
Halo. normal from wedding vidoe this Viltrox 27 mm? AF for day and night ? maybe af super for firmware next time ..thanks friends
How good is the Braw with the x-s20?
I might me a month late but is it possible that you could review the BRAW performance of the X-S20? It seems that you are the only person to actually push the capabilities of this little camera. Everyone on youtube treats this camera exactly what fujifilm told them which is being a "vlogging" camera when in fact this little thing is a literal beast.
Is it that better than 18-50? Much heavier + already have 16mm sigma for low light🤨
interesting 🧐 video ‘ good content 😊
Whaaattt??? You can shoot on the x-s20 to an ssd?? I didn't know that!!! Just got my X-s20 today...
Sorry. Did I get this right, that you can record to an SSD-Harddisk with the Fuji XS-20? How?
Same question in here! That has blown my tiny amateurish mind :)
No! :D I was referring to my external recorder which can record on SSD drives via USB C. Sorry for the confusion!
How about overheating?
how were you able to record to an ssd and the internal SD card but also use an external recorder monitor to record to?
I recorded to a SSD via the external recorder and then you can simultaneously record to the SD card :)
@@SamuelStreetlife simultaneously to the SD card in camera or the external recorder? Thanks for the reply :) I’m going to be purchasing this camera soon and was researching some builds. Your video was very helpful!
@@ValleyVagrant my recorder (Blackmagic design) records to either a SSD or SD. Unfortunately it doesn't to dual recording. So I use the SSD (sometimes also SD if I don't have enough SSD with me) and in the camera I record a lower quality file as emergency backup. Glad to know my video was helpful! Good luck with your rig :)
@@SamuelStreetlife excellent you’re the man thanks so much! I did not realize it was possible to record to media internally and externally simultaneously. I just started my TH-cam journey last month and am upgrading from the X-T4. Again, thank you!
@@SamuelStreetlifeSorry for bothering, let me ask. Can you tell me what devices you use to record data to SSD? I want to install the same as you but don't know which type to buy. Thank you very much
Why do you use Fuji? Why not Sony or other brand?
looks like the XT4 video autofocus and quality kept up with the XS20
Miss your on the street stuff man 😭
It’s coming back when I finish my current job :) I have two episodes filmed and going to film one more in Italy in September.
How much did Viltrox give you?
Production for launch of the GRIV?!?!
when you did video test it looked like stab in camera is rly bad and Af too
I probably wasn’t in boost mode. Boost mode improves af and stabilization a lot.
I hope that drive doesn’t fail on you
My data came back home safely👍. But I am returning the drives now as I still can. Too bad because there aren‘t many options for ssd‘s for external recorders.
@@SamuelStreetlife I’ve always bought their SD cards. Hopefully they’re fine. 👍🏻
At 13:47 we can see the rolling shutter which is very bad.
Well it was a rather fast pan, not normally done for pro footage.
The Viltrox is impressively sharp across the frame even at F1.2, and is well built. But i don't know, I prefer the Fuji contrast. You seem to have graded footage from the two lens brands differently.
I love the fuji contrast as well, i love my viltrox 75mm for an example but it looks off compared to my fuji lenses
@@litehour So it's not just me. Thanks for your feedback.
I would suggest not using that SSD, SanDisk in in fire for them failing a METRIC BUTT LOAD
Yeah I found out after my shoot and now returning all my SSD‘s. But they were the only affordable ssd option for my recorder.
@@SamuelStreetlife you could always do a DIY portable SSD, it would only be one more thing to screw!
