The Fujifilm X-S20 Field Tested in Portugal - Hybrid Travel Film

- So I upgraded to the Fujifilm X-S20 (first new camera I bought since starting this channel) and I tested its limits during a Family Vacation. Equipped with just one lens and a microphone, I filmed this little travel film and also took some photos. This is my first impression with the camera and a demonstration of what you can do when you go ALL IN with the settings on the X-S20. Do you need 10-Bit and 14 stops dynamic range for a TH-cam video? Absolutely not. And I will use lower quality settings for my future videos. But it was fun doing some color grading and testing how flexible the files and the footage is. If you are looking for a very capable hybrid camera then the Fujifilm X-S20 should be on top of your list.

This sold me more on the XS20 than any review I watched for it. These shots are amazing!
You can achieve amazing high quality shots with almost any cam in the X-series. It’s really down to the user experience with them at this point.
@@aquaticlibrary4k60 (and the resulting 40% slowdown) is not achievable with any other Fuji at this price point, neither is 6k open gate

I think the point he's making is. Making a good film isn't about 4k or other techical stuff. You can shoot 1080p 120 just fine on older Fuji cameras. @@drchtct
@@BurningBroadcast yes and no. Of course you can make a great film at 1080p, but these 6k shots are on a different level. The difference in sharpness is insane. We’re not talking subtle differences between some bitrates here.

it is!! Near this village (Marvão) there is a stunning road, almost no traffic. On that road I took photos of vultures, deer, foxes ( all from the car)...at night you can take great pictures of the night sky.

I’ve been to Portugal five times. It is one my favorite places on earth. You really captured everything I love about that place.
I rarely comment on videos - but the first two and a half minutes are really perfect. Excellent sense of composition. This can be seen with one out of a thousand TH-camrs. The photo with the child and the cat and the children in general reminded me a lot of Sergio Larrain's work.

Started watching your channel over the past month. Playing catch up. Love your channel. Learning a lot. I retired to Japan (Kamakura) from Chicago (Chicago Pole). Today I bought my first Fuji camera X-S10 at Mapcamera. Almost got the X-H1 but when i got more money than expected,I moved to XS10. Interesting, my first wife of 25 years(passed away) her father was from Kagoshima and mother from Hamburg. My wife had a rather unique growing up. Since, I’ve remarried a woman from Nagano (met in Chicago)and now retired to Kamakura. I worked in Semiconductor and RF Wireless for Japanese for 40 years. Your character really comes out in your work. Keep ‘em coming. Do you schedule meet ups when in Japan? Would enjoy listening to your experiences in photography and what influences your work?

Loved the intro, best thing I've watched on TH-cam in a long time, very evocative, makes me want to be in Portugal again. I'm so undecided , I want to buy the X-S20 but the EVF is putting me off, I'm definitely leaning toward the X-T5 as I love photography, not so much videography. Anyway great video as always !!!
I have never gone back to re-watch someone's travel video until now. The colors on these shots are amazing. The quiet is noted. I am a Sony shooter and will be chasing this look the hard way. Maybe Cobalt image can get into LUTs. Keep up the great work!

absolutely mega. I own the x-s10, now it's clear: I'm upgrading! Most of all I was wondering about the good sound. At first I thought it was the Sennheiser on the mk 400, it wasn't until I read it a second time that I realized it was the 440 and I have to say there is an incredible difference. This stero really blows your mind.

Lovely work! My X-S20 arrives in a few days. I can't wait! I'm also going to order the SmallRig cage. I have one for my gripped H1 so all the rails and accessories will work.
We hope to get to Portugal soon. My third great-grandfather was kidnapped when he was a young teenager and when his family didn't raise the ransom, he was sold to a merchant ship. After several years, he escaped when they were docked in Richmond Virginia.

This video feels like it was specifically made for me. I lived and studied in Lisbon the past 2 years and looking back I wish I had a camera to capture all of these amazing moments. I did some photos and videos with my smartphone, but let's be honest, it's not the same. And I feel like you often look like a stalker with a smartphone while a camera gives you a legitimate filmmaker look. So yesterday I bought the Fujifilm X-S20 with the Sigma 18-50 and can't wait to be back in Portugal soon, and take some high-quality videos and images, even though it won't be the same without all colleagues from uni. Anyway, for the next adventure I'm prepared, and your channel has helped me to both decide on Fuji and on the Sigma lens, thanks. By the way, 3:2 open gate looks amazing on my 16:10 laptop, finally a video that (almost) fills the entire frame.

Great video. Would have made me buy one, but I've had one in Tokyo for a solid week now and LOVE it. New 8mm and X-S20 combo great, too. Japan is almost completely out of stock at retail on all sought after Fuji lenses and bodies, but lucked out with a random cancel at Yodabashi (best I could understand)
That looked so good. I love the colours you got out of it. And the aspect ratio? Perfect on my iPad. Seen some others use 4:3 lately, and I like it.

I bought the XS20 2 weeksa go although I just bought the XS10 6 months ago, but with the new 6k open gate and 10 bit capability at this price point just couldnt resist, was initial going to buy XH2S but I didn't need all the high end stuff which is offered more than enough in this camera. I will be testing out the 6K open gate shoot soon. I love the full documentary of this video using the 6K open gate ratio. Thank you

I will go to the Azores for 2 weeks from tomorrow and then 10 days Portugal with 2 nights in Lisboa !
Btw - I also did a camera purchase 2 weeks ago - my first since 6 years.
Was pondering many options for quite a while, and almost went with Nikon Z, since I have 2 Nikon DSLR`s and quite some lenses for the system. Also took into consideration the Fuji X-S20 with just one or two lenses - would have been a great setup for easy shooting and travel and hybrid, but after all it would not be so good a match with my existing Nikon equipment.
In the end there was a great deal for the Sony a7 IV with the Sigma 16-28mm ( really "cheap" combo back then from Foto-Erhardt !) and that made the decision.
I could use my nikon lenses either with the cheap adapter which I already own without AF, or get the Commlite AF-Adapter, which I tried out yesterday, but was not too convinced about it.
So I see myself once get a Nikon Z, perhaps a used Z or wait for the next thing ( rumors have it, it could be a full-frame Zfc coming ... )and then see how I can deal with two systems - for sure I could use the lenses for Sony e mount relatively easily with the Megadap or Techart adapters.
Anyway - interesting times ...and one has to balance between new and old gear on the one hand and the learning curve understanding a new system and the joy of simple and productive picture-taking, called photography !
P.S . Now -- some month after my trip in summer I can clearly say one thing :
The Sony a7IV is for sure a great camera and the lenses like the Sigma 16-28mm 2.8 are superb, but in the end I have clearly been taking better photos with my Nikon D750 and some primes like the Voigtländer 40mm f2, -- the electronic viewfinder is for me still not feeling natural and the overload of information and the somewhat crowded handling of the Sony makes me choose the Nikon when going out for street photography.
I. still wonder if i should sell the Sony and get into Fuji again for hybrid shooting and light travel kit !
