I'm actually doing another playthrough of sa2b currently and i'm just as addicted as i was when i was a kid. The knuckles and rouge are such a delight to play. It's something that you can't do in any other game. And the radar and hints work fine i was able to be that 5 minute timed level in 2 minutes because of how effectively i used the hints.
Guns are a good mechanic that got flamed without reason. The controls were responsive, the story was pretty comprehensive if you actually get the real ending.
The hints still take off points. You pretty much have to run around with the hint in mind looking for what they mean. I think the level design isn't terrible, because it would be even better than SA1's if it was in short bursts.
Colors was a huge step down from Black Knight, I would probably place Colors about equally with Secret Rings. Colors being severely overpraised led to the worst decade of Sonic's career happening.

About the same for me. I don't think a game needs to be super long if it's really good, though so I don't hold that against it. Plus, there's plenty of extra stuff to do in it what with the red rings and Chaos Emeralds and all that. -Matt
Exactly! I loved that about Colors. I also thought the Wisps weren't all the gimmicky, since you could finish a level just fine without using them even once!
I think it's cool that it's a Wii exclusive just because the fanboy inside of me is so happy with Sega and Nintendo's partnership here but I'd also love to see this game in HD. It'd be beautiful. -Matt
does anyone agree with me that like every wisp is weird to control? green guy bounces off walls really weird, blue guy is kind of strange because he sometimes breaks blocks in front of him (and its not apparent that that can happen), pinky it's hard to know if you push in the direction of the wall or just keep holding in one direction when climbing, and laser activates automatically if you are near one of those crystals, and doesn't if you are not, which is kind of unnecessary (but great game)

What are you talking about? With the exception of the DS games, all of the footage is of me playing the games. I only didn't get footage of the DS games because the emulators are terrible. I own all of them. -Matt
I'm kinda tired of the notion that Sonic being a big blue hedgehog fighting a scientist means it can't be taken seriously. If that's the case, people have no true imagination and "serious" and "fictional" don't blend well. Fact is, Sonic doesn't need to be TOO serious but it doesn't need to be silly either. It can survive in either but it seems to fit best in the in-between. Hence the classics and the Adventure series.
Sonic was supposed to be a series that could be taken seriously like in Adventure. The overcomedic tone of Colors onward severely harmed the series reputation.

I agree. The bosses were pretty dissapointing. When I fought the first boss in the game and defeated it, I thought to myself "That's it?!", and later they just reused bosses only with it being a different setting. I will give credit to the final boss, though. That was freakin' awesome!

Yeah I agree with most of what Bulldoggamer here is saying. Treasure Hunting stages aren't that bad & are actually enjoyable to come back to once you know what you're doing. I would recommend you watch the Knuckles & Rouge Centurion Challenges some time, they show how fast pros can clear the stages. I also found Colors onward to be not nearly as good as the Dreamcast Era or 4kids Era.
The hints require you to be familiar with the level design to begin with and they take points off of your score for using them AND they're a one use only. The stages are also too big for the one piece at a time radar that had no reason to be downgraded. I'm a kid(mostly teen) and when I played SA2, I recognized too many flaws with the gameplay.
I do really like the voice cast in this from what I've seen in clips. I would've been very upset if they changed Eggman. The first Sonic game I've really wanted to play in quite some time. =) Great job Matt!~
I'm sorry, but some of the music alone makes me take the Sonic franchise seriously. The music portrays the situations as serious. I'm talking about stuff like boss fights and tracks like Final Zone, Big Arms, Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, Egg Golem/King Boom Boo, Suitable Opponent, The orchestral versions of the themes since 06 for final bosses, etc. I think they're going for a certain mood.

All in all the grades don't rally matter you still get the emblem no matter what grade you get. I tend to play through with no regard to the points. I'm not a fan of sa1's emerald levels. Just because it kinda was "hey the fans will be upset if knuckles isnt in this game so lets slap something together for him to do." I agree that they could be a little less frequent especially on the hero side. But it bring a nice change of pace to the game.

They never brought Sonic back, they turned the series into a joke. Black Knight was the best Sonic game on the Wii, yet for some reason you praise Colors, Unleashed played better. Colors started the trend of crap storytelling full of corny jokes that plagued the 2010s decade. Where were you when Lost Worlds, Boom, & Forces happened? Generations quality doesn't come close to that of SA2 Battle if you ask me.

Personally I think the DS version is better, but it's a lot shorter. The reason I say this is simply because it DOES have the Super Sonic in Space battle.
Got the game recently, is fun, I admit. But... I kinda like Sonic unleashed more. Unleashed feels like a big story, while colour more like a tiny episode (also cause no supder sonic climax this time), and I was really dissapointed that there are no unlockable extras like concept art or stuff, just look at the whole worlds design, how can you not put concept art in there? An so kinda loses a bit the replay value. The Wisps are cool when you got use to them (except cube. XC)

certain degree of difficulty that the rest of the game lacked. I have well put 200 hours into that game. and not to mention it has the hardest boss in the whole series. it took me weeks to beat the biolizard. as for battle its prob the best game boy sonic title. The system is a little screwy but once you know what your doing the game is loads of fun. And any game you can play as shadow i will buy in a heartbeat. and he is the best character in all htree of those games.but colors was the same

I tried to play it all the way through but it was so bad i couldn't finish the game. If i wanted the type of platforming in colors i would play a mario game or raymond or donkey kong. It doesn't even feel like a sonic game. I may just be saying that cuz i'm a new school sonic fan but since sonic adventure every sonic game i've played I've loved. (i haven't played sonic 06 or secret of the rings) But colors and generations were the fist sonic games in a long time i didn't like. (played 3ds sgen)
I love this game. I plan to get Unleashed next. I know what you think of it, but I love me some varied game play. Even if it's button-mashing, I still find it fun. I find Super Pokémon Rumble to be good. So yeah. That game button mashes to the max. XD

No, those were developed by the company Eighting. Dimps is best known for the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games.

Wisps not gimmicky? Frenzy and hover play themselves; spike and laser just suck; cube never escapes the slippery 2D, and Boost isn't even a real wisp!
