After much deliberation and tossing of wine glasses, The Jimquisition has narrowed the unworthy contenders down to ten absolute triumphs of shittiness.

In all fairness, that Watch Paint Dry "game" was created and put on Steam just to prove a point about Valve's utter lack of quality control.
Steam are just trying to claw back money they spent on both its Steam Machines.

Doesn't mean they are fucking stupid, totally opposite what you need to sell PCs for masses.
Instead of trying to sell wide array of different hardware, as "ready" consoles to people, that are overpriced as hell, being ready package machines, they should just educate people how simple it is today to make own PCs. I have no idea what Steam machines idea is, I can't think one single good reason to make them in the first place.

It's an example of Nintendo bringing a game down because of a pretty bad control scheme. Didn't helped that it pretty much felt like another remake of Starfox 64.

There's a difference between being flat out bad and lacking content. No Man's Sky wasn't strictly bad - it just lacked content. The reason that game is so hated goes beyond the game itself. The games showcased on this list were bad in every way possible. They were sloppily put together and looked really cheap. As with Modern Warfare, well...Jim did a good job explaining why it topped his list. I don't believe that makes a game bad, but it is definitely inexcusable behavior.

Only the lies made that game bad. Without them, it is just another boring ass crafting game that are a dime-a-dozen on Steam.
It IS utter shit on PC because brand new GTX 1080 video cards could barely get it up to 30 frames per second. On some systems that meet the recommended requirements, it won't even run! Not to mention all the crashes on consoles it's built for and bundled with.

They released Crysis on GOG which is one of my favorite games. So yeah they've been the good guys this time around. What planet is this.
And IDK if it came out this year but Mirror's Edge Catalyst became the first EA game I've ever liked. Other than my Super Nintendo Desert Storm helicopter game. I like that one, from back when it was "Electronic Arts" rather than "EA".

What are you talking about? 2016 was a great year for publishers. The gaming industry has brought in record numbers of monies for them. I believe the amount earned just from the PC platform is double what it was in 2015.

Well, to be fair the fact that they sold it for 60 bucks and marketed it as the next coming of christ sure hasn't helped. But yeah, it's not "bad" per se, just painfully mediocre and surpassed in it's genre by games that cost a third of it's price.

No Man's Sky is a game that was released by Hello Games back in June, with a generous helping of Sony's PR support. It's an open-world and procedurally generated universe where every planet in every star system of mostly fully-realized galaxies can be explored. Exploration was and still is the game's cornerstone, but most of its mechanics are either half-baked or liberally taken from other, better survival or building sandboxes.
The studio's mouthpiece, Sean Murray, soon became infamous for overpromising. He stated the game would have synchronous multiplayer when in fact the game limits its interactions to seeing which planets and solar systems others have explored, and stated that planets had complete physics systems. They, in fact, don't. The solar systems you visit are static, and planets don't rotate on their axis.
Long story short, No Man's Sky's downfall was its aggressive marketing. It's an alright game for twenty bucks or less, but it was sold, packaged and distributed as a fully-fledged retail product.
Go watch some videos online. It's a nice and calm indie experience, but not something most of us would be comfortable paying sixty bucks for.
You know, as much as it might make certain people uncomfortable, I don't think that putting an invented slur for (north) korean occupying forces into a game is that big of a deal. It's probably the most realistic thing that game did. You know, based on "charlies", "krauts", etc. from real history.
I think Jim's point was more that the slur was already British slang for "tit" and came off as silly to him.

When it comes down to it though, NMS was just a bit dull. It takes more than "a bit dull" to roll in this company.
I think NMS is more deserving of a spot on the MEDIOCRE Awards list, if he does that again this year. What he hated were the way its fans behaved, the game itself was just dry and boring.
To be fair, the game has unfucked itself marginally, which, while still not good, has at least pushed it off the bottom 10.
I get the feeling Jim just doesn't really want to talk about Hello Games anymore, until they do something commendable/detestable. Right now, they're just sort of still there, in the wake of a significant string of PR disasters that will likely kill their company eventually anyway.
Arguably NMS was worse than for instance star fox zero, if only for all the promises and bullshit that were bandied around. SFZ was meh, NSM was meh but the latter one was the biggest overall load of bullshit we've had in years, all things considered

BF1 is a bug-filled disappointment, and as usual DICE likes to break working parts of the game with every patch. Me and some friends have over 200 hours in BF1 so far, so we can tell you what's wrong with it.
Overwatch I just don't enjoy, too small teams, ults charge too fast, and there's too many "pro" people that ruin games.
Civ 6 < Civ 5
Doom is good, if you ignore the multiplayer part.
Dishonored 2 is good, if not played on PC (bad console port)
Inside is a decent sidescroller indie game, if you're into those.
Every other game you listed I either have no interest in, or haven't even heard of.

I know it is your opinion, but personally I LOVED Star Fox Zero. Once I got a handle of the controls, I felt like a GOD. Dodging enemies, flying like an ace, destroying everything that threatened me. I wouldn't consider it one of the WORST games of 2016. I have played far worse this year (like say King of Fighters 14).
But of course, different strokes for different folks. I respect your opinions, Jim. Even if I don't always agree with them.

At this point I think I've memorised every line of this episode. What an iconic one this is. Especially that intro, something about it is just perfect

What the hell happened to Onimusha anyway? I only played number 3 and it was easily one of the best games on PS2. I got to live out that fantasy we all have of being Jean Reno killing monsters with a whip and being all French everywhere. Then the series just died.
It didn't have Resident Evil or Street Fighter in the title so Capcom decided to chain it up in the basement.

I would put Skyrim Dpecial Edition at #1.It's essentially just re-releasing a 5-year-old game for 60 bloody dollars with lackluster visual improvements and nothing else changed. At a local store, I saw a new copy of the game for 7 dollars, with this money-grubbing remake nearly 9 times the price.
I have come to the conclusion that one useless developer is called a disgrace, that two are called Digital Homicide, and that three or more become Konami.
As much we dispise Konami's practices, we simply have to understand that Konami isnt primarily a gaming company that simply invested heavily in games. They have hotels, health and fitness clubs, casinos.

Norspark Nintendo could patch in more traditional controls and the game could be better. But Nintendo is arrogant and won't.
kayonesoft Thing is, I don't mind how the game is. After playing W101 enough, I learned that some developers want to do something different, and learned to appreciate it.
It helped me understand that Miyamoto just wanted to do something different, and by god, he actually did.
For what is worth, I had fun.

Lets just say that games like SFZ deserve to exist and be done with it.
I would however, argue that it would have been better off as its own IP. That way there wouldn't have been such a huge backlash.
Well this is a fine pickle... I haven't played Star Foz zero so I feel ill-suited to commenting on it, but I did play W101. And the reaction people had to that game and the reaction I see people having to SF0 doesn't really feel like it's comparable?
101 did something truly unique in a way that other games just hadn't done before, with it's massive numbers of heroes being controlled more or less simultaneously. People didn't get it or took a lot of time to get it, but I felt that most understood that it's peculiarities meant there simply wasn't a more "conventional" way to control it- it was the experimental way or the highway, and it used that experimental style to deliver an experience that is close to one of a kind.
In SF0's case, there already existed a far more conventional, easy to use style of control- and it seems, admittedly based on nothing but sheer volume of their voices and prevalence of their opinions, that even the majority of people who did eventually gel with the controls, didn't feel like they actually added anything to make up for the extra convolution.
Like I said, I haven't played it and I can't say anything definitive... but 101 has an enduring cult reputation among those who played it, so it feels like they at least did SOMETHING right while making it. So far it sure doesn't seem like the same can be said of Star Fox Zero...
As of now, Homefront The Revolution is nothing more than a nightmare that is being slowly forgotten about. It should of stayed cancelled.

you know, steam could probably solve a lot of the issues with flooding their storefront with literal shit if they just do what microsoft did by cordoning off all the greenlit games in something similar to the xbox live indie games system. yeah, there might be a few good games lumped in there, but that's an unfortunate side effect of keeping the rest of the shit off to the side for just those few people who want to jump into that septic tank. maybe even have some metric to track total play time over all concurrent users and let games with a high enough play count move out to the storefront proper.
Too bad steam will never do this. seems like an easy way to fix their store, but what do I know. I'm just a consumer. My only contribution if giving steam money when they provide me with good games. of course they haven't provided for the better part of a year, so...

As long as Mass Effect Andromeda is atleast "pretty alright", Nintendo doesn't fuck up the Switch and RDR2 is good (and possibly gets a PC release?) then 2017 should be a lot better for me.
Want to know whats really sad? cod4 remastered would have made them plenty of money and the main people who bought it could care less about youtube reviews or any kind of accountability that is needed within the game publishing world

I just agree with Jim. No Man Sky (before the big update that happened months ago. A well needed update) It just more of a disappointment verses a outright bad game like the ones on the list.
Overhyped and with it being marketed terribly and it being released as a Alpha/Beta state, makes it disappointing more then outright terrible. It could have been a great game if it was finished before the release.
To add to the shittiness, Slashy Souls WAS REGION LOCKED and I never got to play it in Argentina.

If we're grading games based on shitty practices from the company, Warhammer: Total War should be on this list for sure. They cut out literally 20% of the entire game's content to sell as day 1 DLC (and/or a pre-order bonus) and sold fucking "blood DLC" again! AGAIN!
