I'd love to see a video comparing similar products from medical grade skincare brands (Obagi, Alastin, EltaMD, Skinbetter, Skinmedica, Skinceuticals, etc)! I think this would be great for those who buy medical grade skincare to know which products you think are more effective/better from which brands! love your content! i learn sooo much

My understanding is it’s due in part to bone loss, loss of the structure the skin hangs on, along with loss of collagen and elasticity. If that’s the case I hope she focuses on bone health and not just topical or surgical options.

Skincare products are virtually all a waste of money. Skin replaces itself all the time and it's health and look is more about your diet than putting on a cream daily. A sunscreen is a good idea and a cream that moisturizes and gives a barrier to keep moisture in but they can be bought for a few dollars.

Ah!! I wish we could learn the basic skincare (skin protection) at school or at least in high school following with the importance of exercise, hygiene and a clean diet. I just feel that we have to learn everything by ourselves the most important thing in the world which is HEALTH. When I talk about all of these to some people around me they are sadly ignorant. Thanks to get into details about expensive products. Very appreciated 🥰🥰

All you gotta do is watch some TH-cam video 🤣, if anything schools should teach about taxes, buying a house, taking out loans, managing and saving money, who to plan for retirement. All you have to do is go to dermatologist and boom you got perfect skin. It's really not that complex or important. And of course people could learn about on their own but not everyone will at a young age until it's too late and they can't retire but if it's taught at schools there is now a higher chance that people will understand money and be wiser with it.

It’s so confusing to see multiple dermatologists say even the “researched” products from big pharma companies aren’t worth it due to issues with said research, but then have others say oh yes it’s researched so it’s good. 😅 just goes to show there is no truly “worth it” product amongst professionals, only personal preference. So I do appreciate you saying “it’s worth it to me”.

    • @Sovnarkom
      @Sovnarkom ปีที่แล้ว

all of these “might be worth it” videos just list expensive topicals that at least have published research behind them … so worth it only when compared to luxury creams with nothing but celebrity backing and quality marketing
adapalene, colloidal oatmeal, beeswax, glycerine … these are all FDA approved over the counter actives that can be found on the cheap but have much more research behind them
Most good skincare is sub $20/month.
Prescription options like 15% azelaic acid or 4% hydroquinone are ~ $30/month with a coupon.
Beyond that … just ask your doctor for a dermatologist referral and look into procedures. It’s hard for me to justify a $180 lotion or serum, even if it lasts 3 months.

If I splurge, it's on serums, but never over $100, even if I had it to spend. If it's a one time thing ok, but since one has to keep buying it gets crazy expensive. In terms of Sunday Riley Good Genes, I used it and it was good, then someone gave me a bottle of Pond's Rejuveness....I liked it better!. The first thing on the ingredients is Lactic Acid. it's a wonderful product, very like Sunday Riley. Gotta say, the video kind of depressed me, but I'll cheer up when I get my black Friday haul!

Appreciate this video a lot! "Expensive" skincare is a category that's often mentioned without nuance and frequently denigrated as unnecessary; but it clearly depends on the particular product and the R&D that has gone into it along with the quality of ingredients and the science/technology of their delivery mechanisms. Is a lot of expensive skincare simply marketing and pseudoscience fronted by whichever current celebrity influencer? Certainly. But is a lot of expensive skincare actually legitimate and proven to give verifiable, amazing results? Definitely. Customers actually have to research these claims and be as knowledgeable as possible about what can be achieved by skincare within realistic parameters. It goes without saying that you buy what you can afford and invest in what you feel is worth it.

I've tried Differin gel and my salicylic acid wash for months. I still had breakouts while using Differin gel. I realized that the red color dyes in my blush made me break out. I tried ZO Skin Health skincare, the $150 acne clearing system. It helped a lot! I felt brand new. However, when I had another facial at the esthetician, I broke out again. I think it was because of the extractions they did on my face-ouch! Now I'm trying to find something effective that is quality, yet less expensive than ZO Skin Health. My skin is so dry that ive always layered cheap moisturizers and i think that leads to clogged pores. So expensive moisturizer is worth it to me.

I’ve always wondered why Skinceuticals puts their Vitamin C in a dropper that requires repeated exposure to air knowing how unstable the ingredient is.
I’ve purchased before and loved it, but it oxidizes so quickly which makes me question its efficacy. It makes me wonder if it’s better to go for an alternative with less research behind it that comes in an air-tight container?

Very informative. Thank you. Two questions, one on the topic and the other not. First, if you are using a RX Retinoid, and it is supposed to do what many of these other products claim to do (like building collagen for example) will the use of other products do that much more? I hope my question is not too convoluted. My second question is one I would love to see a video on. If you apply skin care and wash it off a couple of hours later (say you work out and then shower) does it need to be reapplied. I know sunscreen would, but things that are absorbed like serums sink in. I was just curious about the science behind this. Thanks again.

While I know that Skinceuticals C E Ferulic works and researched backed, I don’t think it’s worthed PERSONALLY. Because if we think about the three key benefits from pure vitamin C (collagen stimulation, evening out skin tone, antioxidant) , you can still get it from niacinamide for hyperpigmentation and antioxidant and you can go for retinoid for collagen stimulation and the total cost is still much lower. I’m not against vit c, but spending it on C E Ferulic is not worth the benefits for the financial risk personally for me. I’ve tried it before and see no dramatic difference with other pure vitamin c serum that costs around $20-$50.

Something I’d love to hear you chat about is dealing with peeling skin brought on by retinols. I’ve back my Agency prescription down to .02% but I still find myself peeling two days later. It seems that I can get a lot it off in the shower with eBanel peeling gel, but then I start noticing the little balls showing up in my foundation and powder when I look in the 10x mirror. The BHA toner doesn’t remove it either. At least not to the extent that the physical rubbing of my make up brush does…

Great recommendations, thank you! It feels like most of the influencers with a mature audience are touting the NIRA.
I would love to have your opinion. I have the OmniLux, but need some more help with my eye area. I have Systemic Mastocytosis, which rules out any Botox or fillers.

I have been very torn about the Omnilux devices fearing they could trigger or worsen melasma. Is that true? I am 58 and now take good care of my skin after abusing it in my teens and 20s. I have slight rosacea and tend to be pretty oily even now. My coloring is Fitzpatrick II and I get in-office peels and ipl throughout the year but I worry about a device like Omnilux causing more problems than benefits. Is this a risk?

I have watched a number of videos. Right now I have an older small Mito panel. I just watched a video that said the panel should be 6-12" from the face, yet the masks seem to be almost touching the skin - Help I'm confused 🤨 Thanks for the great videos.

Excellent video Dr. Ellis. Thank you for providing straightforward information and not apologizing for the cost. I want to know about products that actually work and are best in class. Let people make up their own minds about worth/value.
More like this please, and would appreciate updates to the list from time to time.

Have you used Tatcha’s dewy cream? I am obsessed with it but wonder how it compares to the Indigo cream. Is it thicker? It is the only cream that helps my skin while using tretinoin.

I think I've used every product you mentioned other than the TNS Advanced. I just can't justify that expense. I love my Alto, Trio and Alpharet from Skinbetter. As for eye cream, I really like Alastin's eye cream. I have the Alastin Restorative Skin Complex and I'm never sure where to use it. Is it a moisturizer or serum? I tend to just use it after I get a microneedling treatment. Great video!

Alastin does have a great eye cream too! I tend to use the restorative skin complex under spf in the morning. Sort of a hybrid serum/moisturizer. Also great for post-procedure like you mentioned!

Can you do a video on Zero Waste or low waste or environmentally-responsible skin care products? Products that are fair trade, have only vegan ingredients, have minimal packaging--and that packaging is recyclable, the manufacturer pays fair wages, the ingredients were sustainably sourced, etc? For example, currently I'm only using shea butter that I bought directly from a women's collective in Ghana, but I'd like to add to that. I realize nothing is perfect--the shea butter, for example, came wrapped in a plastic bag and then in a UPS bag (which I repurposed as a garbage bag). But we can try our best.

I absolutely love Verso Super Facial Serum. It’s the only skincare product I splurge on. I have rosacea and dry skin, and I was able to easily work my way up to daily use, and my skin has never felt better. Retinyl-retinoate is also more stable in daylight, so I’m able to use it in my AM routine and leave my PM routine open to other actives ❤

I think Retino A (active) is enough paired with a very good moisturiser. However, could you make a video on products from Augustinus Bader/Dr Sturm. They are expensive and a dermatologist from UK was saying that some of these products are quite average and absolutely not worth the price.
