    Growth factors are naturally secreted by various cells in our bodies and skin. Even keratinocytes and fibroblasts secrete growth factors. Do growth factors in serums actually work? Or do the benefits come from all of the other additional beneficial ingredients in growth factor serums? Either way, they are considered to be medical grade skincare or professional grade skincare and are quite expensive. I put them in the luxury category.

    SkinMedica doesn’t make the tns serum anymore. They’ve replaced it with TNS ADVANCED plus which has 94% growth factors- the most in the industry. The previous serum was antioxidant rich with minimal GF’s. The new product is colorless, odorless and works in 2 weeks! So much better

    With my experience, ZO growth factors did change the tone of my skin and the firmness. The difference was noticeable from my coworkers who see me daily, same for my husband. I do use prescription retin-a at night. I buy this once a year as added boost to my current routine.💋

      @@theocbeautymd I’ve only tried ZO Daily Power Defence. The first time I tried it, I could swear it was an exfoliates because my skin kept peeling. I stopped using it daily and used it when I had my hormonal breakouts. I never repurchased until six years later and this time, it felt as a moisturizer. I ran out of it and went back to ZO vitamin C. Recently, I’ve been adding glycolic acid to my daytime routine and it helped a lot with my hormonal breakouts. I’m also entering peri menopause. My employer asked me to return back to the office more frequently and my stress level gone up again and I gained ten pounds.
      My current routine is glycolic acid every other day (daily during the week of period) vitamin C on other days; with the two routines, Skinmedica HA and La Roche Posay toleraine moisturizer, Colorscience sunscreen. At night, just prescription retin-a and sometimes moisturizer on top.

    Thank you so much for this video. I could not agree with you more since I was new to a skincare routine about six yrs ago and was sold on Skin Medica TNS as the holy grail must have. After further discovering all the things I really needed to be doing (at age 55 then) and having so much trouble with the dual pumps clogging that ended TNS. Since then I have done CO2 laser and micro needling. You really do need to add devices to your routine, along with good products. I now use mostly a mix of some Alastin, skin better, and skin cueticals, and then add some specific things like transexamic acid , niacinamide, etc to target hyperpigmentation from my skin damage growing up and living in S. FL! Very helpful explanation on growth factors.

    I’m a 57 yr. old fe mail.
    Up until a few months ago I had only been using basic soap (neutrogena)and lotion on my face. 6 weeks ago I had
    picocare laser treatment plus a few fillers injected into my deep facial scars.
    At the same time I began using the ZO anti-aging product line including the Z0 growth factor serum . At the same time I also began using the TNS growth factor serum (alternating each growth factor serum so 1 day I use 1 serum and the next I use the other but still using the other ZO anti aging products) .
    I noticed a huge improvement at first in my overall skin tone and fine lines. The results have evened out and slowed down a bit but I’m not surprised after such an immediate change when first trying the products. Next month I’m have a more intense C02 laser treatment for my deep facial scars. All these treatments combined are what my dermatologist recommended. After watching this video I’m wondering if both growth factors are necessary but I do like the idea that 1 serum is human derived and the other is plant derived. Feels like I’m attacking my skin issues from every angle. Fantastic video. So thorough!
    I feel much more informed and educated about serums in-particularly the 2 serums I’m currently using. . Definitely food for thought. I want to share this video with both my esthetician and dermatologist. I think they should have their clients watch it before investing so much money. Hope that’s OK. If not, I won’t. Thanks so much!

      Thank you very much, and yes Please DO share. I welcome it ❤️ It sounds to me like you are on an excellent skin care regimen. The only thing I might suggest is to use one growth factor serum exclusively and when you finish it, use the second one. I make this suggestion for 2 reasons; You might find that one works better for your than another and then you can continue to invest in the one that is best for you, whereas if you alternate daily, you can not know which serum is doing what. The second reason is that if you continue the same product daily, you give it the opportunity to work at its best, optimal concentration, especially since the growth factors in these serums are different. Having said that, if you continue switching them up you are still delivering great ingredients to your skin and restoring its health! 🥰

    I am that person you spoke of that uses tretinoin, spf, antioxidants, vitamin c and hydrates!!! I recently started using human adipose derived stem cells in my at home nano needling. I do this once a week and notice an improved plumpness for 48 hours post treatment. When I use the product without nano needling, I don’t get the same effect so I am convinced that for me, they work dependent on the modality. I’ve had prp micro needling with RF several times and those results are visible and last around 2-3 months.

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, yes, yes! I think growth factors with micro needling are the most effective and there's nothing better than your own growth factors. I'm currently looking into the Potenza, its the micro needling RF by cynosure, it was a technology that generates pressure and pushes product into the skin through the needles. If it actually does what they say, it would be the best micro needling device on the market (in my opinion)! 🥰

    • @AndYourLittleDog
      @AndYourLittleDog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theocbeautymd I’m not quite comfortable enough with the Dr Penn to do micro needling. In use the nano chip tip which just separates the stratum corneum enough to infuse product. I find that it’s sufficient in conjunction with the rest of my routine to to this with stem cells and glutathione and, as you said, invest in energy treatments for the most bang for my buck. You give very thoughtful information in a calm manner. I really appreciate that.

      Thank you and welcome 🥰 I can see why its challenging to find some of these answers, because there are so many variables at play, it often comes down to the specific products in question. For example; vitamin C in the form of L ascorbic acid is going to be totally different that a vitamin C ester and this affects the pH of the formulation and how it interacts with other products or affects the skin. In addition, there are so many options for delivery systems of active ingredients that also impact what can be combined with what. In general, because retin A is irritating, you would not want to combine with with another irritating product like L ascorbic acid. And always listen to your skin ☺️

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point. ☺️ TNS Essential and Neocutis are also very good. The TNS essential also uses human derived GF and the Neocutis was contraversial due to use of human (fetal) derived growth factors. I am not up to date, if that has been cleared up. In general, theses products are similar to what I talk about in the video in the sense that all of these serums have many MANY beneficial ingredients in addition to GFs, so it's difficult to ever know what benefits are derived from which ingredients.
      I would say, these are all good serums and the way I look at them is either as the luxury icing on the cake or a replacement if you want to use a minimal amount of products, you get a lot of value out of these. But if you have a skin care ritual and use AHA's, peptides, retinols, antioxidants etc, you may not see too much benefit from the GF serums. 😘

      Yes absolutely. Thanks for the suggestions. I think that peptides and Hyaluronic Acid are tough because they are so large that they nearly never penetrate through the skin. So the product must have a way of getting those products to absorb through, and the only ones that I think actually work are the SkinBetter products. They developed a fatty coating to help those molecules sneak through between the skin cells.

      I really want to love them but I'm on the fence. I've used them post microneedling on a split face test, half stem cells, other half Alastin skin Nectar. There was no difference in appearance visually but there was much more comfort and quicker healing with Alastin. I was disappointed. I do like them for hair restoration though

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge of science and skincare. I would love to know what you would recommend for me? I'm 64 and really sun-damaged my skin in my 20's before understanding the consequences. I have tried co2 laser and other less strong lasers as well as various skincare. I still have poor texture/pores , cheek and under eye wrinkles that all bother me. Any recommendations? Thank you!

      It sounds like you know a lot about various options for treating skin and have tried a few good treatments, and I know what you mean about years of sun damage. Improving skin quality is a process and can be slow and frustrating, for sure. I am unable to give advice like this online, and I think it would be a disservice to recommend products when I haven't seen your skin and don't know what you have used on it. However I would really love to help you! We can do a virtual consultation where I will be able to give you the time and attention to address your concerns properly. There is a link to my Stan store in the video description. I will leave a link here also. 🌸

    I’ve never had any in office procedures done but I would like to start. I am 35 and my nasal labial folds and marianete lines are starting to really bother me. I have very sensitive skin due to fibromyalgia. What procedure would you recommend for sensitive skin? I also have a little bit of melasma.

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a challenge, with the sensitivity. I think you would find many devices extremely painful even with topical numbing, unless you wanted to do sedation.
      You could try radio frequency for skin tightening that works buy slowly increasing the skin temperature. That might be comfortable for you. It's a bit of a gamble in the sense that it works extremely well on some and not much on others and unless you try it, you won't know. Only caveat is that the heat could aggravate the melasma.

      The TNS advanced is good. It uses human growth factors. I like the Zo because it's plant based, but that is personal preference. I do love Alastin TriHex also. Honestly, when it comes to growth factors they are expensive to formulate so they are pricy products. You can definitely save on hydrators, AHA's, BHA's and cleansers but I wouldn't buy an inexpensive growth factor because it wouldn't do much for your skin.

    I just found your channel and have been watching your videos one by one. I started using medical skin grade products for more than year now. I have access to majority of gf products, Neogenisis, TNS, AnteAge, Osmosis. Currently using AnteAge in my am and Neogenesis in my pm. I used a full routine am and pm. My question is, do you need to apply the retinol or retinaldehyde right after the growth factor regardless of their consistency? Btw i use avene .1% or obagi retivance in my am routine and for every pm i use the SkinBetter intensive alpha ret and Truth Treatment Retinol5%serum twice a week. I also use skinBetter EvenTone, & Alto, PCA B3, Revision VitC 30%, PCA Collagen hydrator. Are these also too much products. I’m 61 years old. Thanks 😊

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the intensive alpharet and the Truth 5% is a lot. I think it would be beneficial to decrease the amount and increase the frequency. Aim for nightly use. If your skin tolerates it well, I would consider a 0.1% tretinoin.
      As far as penetration, it all depends on the vehicle. You could apply it before or after.

    • @theocbeautymd
      @theocbeautymd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a hypothetical risk like I mentioned but not proven. When our immune system functions optimally, it catches and eliminates any abnormal cells that are detected, including cancer cells that are produced on a regular basis. When a malignant cell evades the immune system, one develops cancer. Could growth factors stimulate a malignant cell? Theoretically, yes. Practically, no one knows.
