It is worth pointing out that you do not find any text in the Qur’aan or Sunnah which enjoins taking others as slaves, whereas there are dozens of texts in the Qur’aan and the ahaadeeth of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which call for manumitting slaves and freeing them.
There were many sources of slaves at the time of the advent of Islam, whereas the means of manumitting them were virtually nil. Islam changed the way in which slavery was dealt with; it created many new ways of liberating slaves, blocked many ways of enslaving people, and established guidelines which blocked these means.

      What about Bukhari?
I saw Abu Sa`id and asked him about coitus interruptus. Abu Sa`id said, "We went with Allah's Apostle, in the Ghazwa of Bani Al-Mustaliq and we captured some of the 'Arabs as captives, and the long separation from our wives was pressing us hard and we wanted to practice coitus interruptus. We asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (whether it was permissible). He said, "It is better for you not to do so. No soul, (that which Allah has) destined to exist, up to the Day of Resurrection, but will definitely come, into existence."

@David Hutchins no one denying anything. But when u talk about slaves in Islam u don't mention mamlukh/slave dinesty of Islam. Its important to mention Human rightss towards salves. These r important topics. abolishing Slavery is not a simple thing. USA's istitutionalize Racism is a good example. Treatment of slaves is vastly different frm North America, Europe and middle east. Muslims clearly know cases done by some corrupted Sultans. He is not romanticising anything. He is talking about hole case of Slavery, where ur more into blame game.

Really amazing lecture it really changed my perception of slavery and I learned a lot hamdoulilah for Islam. The shariah is such a perfect system when you look at their laws for slaves, imagine theirlawsfor society in general so perfectly established!

    2) The prophet abolished all types of slavery that would cause more harm than benefit to society. (Prisoners of war was not abolished).
    3) slavery is a symptom of greater problems in society. Such as racism etc. the goal of the prophet peace be upon him was to reintegrate slaves into their society.
    4) The prophet said he who
Slaps a slave the only way to expiate for that is to free him. You are not allowed to call them names they do not like or refer to them as slaves. The prophet then said all of you are slaves to Allah and he is the only master. Slaves have to be given the same clothes, same food. The prophet said they are nothing but your brothers whom Allah has placed under your care. Slaves were actually considered to be part of the family.
    5) people born as slaves were able to assume positions of scholarship and leadership.
    6) people would more easily submit in battle because of the Islamic rules surrounding the treatment of prisoners of war. Reforms made by the prophet peace be upon him: - the only time the prophet would take prisoners of war was if the opposing army would take prisoners of war as well. For example banu mutsaliq would take captives but qurash wouldn’t do that which is why the prophet wouldn’t leave the quraish captives in captivity. He would wither free them ( with or without ransom) or kill them. Banu mustaliq planned to attack the prophet first so he surprised attacked him. The muslims wanted to enslave them because they would enslave the muslims. When the prophet married jowerya the muslims decided to free the captives of banu mustaliq. The prophet was no captive hungry. Banu qurayzah committed treason ( they tried to attack the woman and children) and the prophet laid siege to them after that. For twenty five days banu qurayzh was under siege. The prophet allows them to chose their own arbitrator to judge by their own law. That arbitrator judged them by the law of their own text. - Allah says after the battle is over either you show generosity or you ransom them. That ransom can not be unfair. Prisoners and slaves had access to the judges if the ransom was to high.
    7) Allah encourages muslims to free and marry off slaves. This is reintegration to an extreme. Even as captives they had full consent on how to marry.

@@bayyinah yes it is permissible to buy a slave from a market, provided that the slaves were captured in a Halal manner.
Prophet Mohammed, himself was the largest human trafficker of his era/area. For he received 20% of all war booty. To this day there are Muslims who give 20% of their income to those who are relatives of Prophet Mohammed.
So 1 in 5 slaves belonged to Mohammed and he bought, sold and traded those slaves as well as had sex with them.
I am sure my comment will be deleted because that is what is expected of people who are dishonest.
The reality is that this man is a fraud. I assure you that if it was said about Muslims what Islam says about others, he would be protesting in the streets, as he often does. :)

The primary distinction between a free person and a slave is the ability to freely LEAVE (whoever you work for). A slave simply can't leave, they can't go "home". So while treatment was better and more progressive, they were still not free to leave. So how do we say they were not slaves? By the way, this is a legitimate question. I loved this lecture and thought it was thought provoking and I learned a lot from it !

    • @byunbaekhyun7466
      @byunbaekhyun7466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

He told in his lecture slaves were able to buy their freedom. If she didn't want to be under someone she could just buy her own freedom. Not all women were concubines. You need their consent to make them your concubine. Suppose a woman hated being someone's concubine. If her master asked her to become his concubine she could refuse and serve as a normal servant. She could also form a contract to buy her own freedom. Her freedom price wouldn't be too much for her. After she brought her freedom, her master was encouraged to give her money so that she could do something. Most of the woman choose to be concubines because of the same treatment of a wife. it's not 21st century. In a desert without a family and clan you is survived chances are 0.

About what you talked about capital punishment. You said it takes the law out of the state and puts it in the hands of the family of the victim.
And what about Zina in marriage ? Does it also put the punishment upon the will of the wronged spouse? Or does the land has the right to punish the culprit?
