Happiness Is A By-Product Of Living With Purpose | Khutbah by Nouman Ali Khan | Detroit, USA

  • In this week's khutbah, at the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan draws a parallel between video games and real life, highlighting the stark differences in outcomes despite similar efforts. In video games, following a set of rules consistently leads to predictable rewards and progress. If players encounter difficulties, they can easily turn to TH-cam for walkthroughs or cheat codes to advance.
However, real life is far more complex; two individuals may put in the same effort but achieve vastly different results. This unpredictability drives many people to look for special adhkaar to solve their problems in real life just like they look for cheat codes in video games.
Ustadh notes that this search is part of a broader pursuit of happiness, where people believe that acquiring certain things will bring them joy. However, he observes that those who relentlessly chase happiness often end up being the most depressed. He emphasizes that while the pursuit of happiness itself is not inherently wrong, we tend to look for the wrong goals to be happy. So what is the right goal? Watch the video to find out.

Back in 2006, at the age of 33, I became very sick. I spent months in hospital and I needed several operations. Because of my illness, I lost my job, my house, my car and my lifestyle. Everything. I nearly died. But Walahi, this was the best thing to ever happen to me.
I was very successful in my career and had an amazing salary, but even though I reverted to Islam in 1995, my faith was not where it should have been. Since my illness, I have rediscovered my faith, and in 2022, I was blessed with the opportunity to perform Umrah with my wife. I am now 51. I have no money and although my health is better than it was, I am still in pain every single day. But I hold strong to my Islam and I am happy. Happier than ever before, in fact. It is so true what Ustadh Nouman said, sometimes the fiercest test can be the mightiest blessing. Subhanallah.

@@pinkdetail Assalamualaikum! I’m so glad that my comment helped in some way. Honestly, Allah has tested me in many more ways besides what I described above, but He knows what we do not, and He knows what is better for us. Always remember that, especially in difficult times.
Despite what I have endured during my life, I feel truly blessed and if my experiences can help even just one fellow brother or sister, then it has been worth it. I wish you nothing but success and happiness, and I will make du’a for you Inshallah ♥️

I broke my legs several times by falling , fractured knee , torn ACL the. surgery and it broke again . Then my lower back damage happened . سبحان اللّٰہ I’m so grateful to Allah for that .الحمدُللّٰہ . If that didn’t happen , I would never be able to find Allah . Allah of that gave me the time and Opportunity to think deeply about the realities of life .

I started to become happy, when I embraced the suffering in my life because I understood it is a gift of god and that every aspect about it is good for me and makes me grow in the long term. "Good and bad, we have to make the most of it"

What i love about ustadz nouman...he always delivered his speech as if he can read our minds😂..maybe because he has some minor degree in psychology so a lot more people can relate to Al-quran and the beautiful words of Allah in their own way..😊😊 coz everyone's life experience and challenge is unique...

Thank you for this. We need to live purposeful and consequential lives and only fear Allah. When it comes to being tested with wealth we need to remember that wasting it on luxuries like a nicer car than the one we have (for twice the price) will not get us closer to Allah but using this wealth for good to help our brothers and sisters who need it and to build institutions for the ummah will help us get closer to Allah. I learned this when I worked in Dubai and saw so many people strive to be financially successful to buy showy clothes instead of using the advantages they had to help the Ummah.

Just hold on. Even if the light is very dim, just hold on and don't give up. I pray for you. You have the strength, just don't give up. Whatever we go through in this world is temporary. You will be rewarded eternally with true happiness and joy if you just hold on to your faith and hope in His mercy as best you can. He sees your struggle, he's close to you and he says himself that he tests with the most difficulty the ones he loves the most. His beloved prophets who are the best of humanity went through so much difficulty so many trials and tribulations. Pray for strength and sabr from the source of all strength and the most patient. We pray with you. You're not alone. Just hold on...

I believe and saw in my life for example one person reads a dua for several times has a benefit for his/her own needs (may be not good for us). But when you did it not for a benefit just for the sake of Allah, amazing things happen even you reach a better understanding and also side benefits of that dua (benefits money, career or not a physical thing like these may be a joy from inside or a good moment with family or a friend who was not seen for years) think like that. Mercy of Allah cannot be limited with a thing.

From Bangladesh to Egypt Muslims are under attack by their governments who prefer to rule to extract wealth from our countries and are willing to sell our values to foreign governments. Some people just failed to acknowledge and then recognize the Rahmah, the Provision from Allah....
When we think our succes n failure only from our own self, we have 100% control of our own life, prepare to be miserable and depressed all the time. Alhamdulillah for Islam.

I watched this lecture like 3 times and still can't understand fully despite the importance of this topic 😢, he keeps on jumping in the middle of topics or giving comparison examples which kept the idea not fully grasped. I wish he can do this lecture yet again but much clearer.

He is saying: allah tells us in the quran to not wish for other peoples' blessings (comparing yourself to others) because what might be a blessing for them might be a curse to you or vice versa!
What you need to do is:
1- know why you are here! Why are you in this world? What is your ultimate purpose?
( You need to know life is a test, and allah tests us with good and bad! So we choose our places in the afterlife. So we need to thank him for the good and be patient in the bad and still thank him!).
2- you need to know what the test is?
(The test simply is objective! It varies from one person to another!
      * Some will be tested with hardship (ex: disease, being poor...etc) to see if he is patient and if he thanks allah or will he do bad deeds (ex: stealing, drugs...etc)!
*And some will be tested with blessings (ex: wealth, good looks....etc) to see if he becomes arrogant and does bad deeds (ex: sleeping around, parties, drugs...etc), or he thanks allah and does good deeds (ex: zakat, charity and helping the poor...etc).)
3- knowing these points! What do you need to do?
(To pass this big test you need to take into consideration that We are going to die and we are going to be resurrected in the afterlife (there is no escaping that)! You need to focus on the judgment day! So that either in good or bad you don't do things which demolish your afterlife for a temporary joy or temporary relief! (If you thank allah for the blessings and do good dees / or you be patient and not do bad deeds and thank allah )you will get good things in the afterlife and vice versa!)
This does not mean that you have to abandon your life here like a monk! You can have good in both dunya and qyamah you just ask allah (oh allah give me the best of this world and the best of the akhirah(hereafter)! )
And one more thing! Everyone has blessings and hardship in their life simultaneously! You just need to see it, Remembering allah and being positive will help a great deal!
I hope you understand what I wrote, because I'm not good at explaining things. 😅

he teach us 2 things about our reality in living in this world
      1. everybody has their own timeline in life
      2. a blessing can be a curse for some people and difficulties can be a blessing for some people. We cannot judge any of what we've been trough that it is a bless or a curse
The hikmah upon that 2 thing is:
For everything we've been trough in life, Allah has plan in it. wether its blessing or difficulties. each of it is a test. So the point is we must accept, be patience and pass every Allah's plan for us

What I got from his lecture is 'the ultimate aim in life as a believer,is to accept wholeheartedly any situation we find ourselves in.Because that is exactly what Allah deems will be the best for us.Our clear purpose in life should be making the best of what skills and talents Allah has given us.Therfore we all have separate paths that we have to follow in order to have 'happiness' and fulfilment in life.

Continuing videogames analogy: there are challenges too. Character must go through many difficulties to become hero. An easy game wouldn't be interesting.
