  • Using the NHL trade value chart, I managed to calculate which picks were the biggest steal and the biggest reaches of the 2024 draft. The question is, which GMs deserve to get flamed for going off the board with their draft picks.

I don’t think Sennecke would have lasted long if the Ducks hadn’t taken him. If Demidov and Lindstrom were gone, Montreal might have taken him or Iginla at 5.

The ducks took him over Demidov. They're fools.

@@MrJimbeam1116 time will tell. They obviously saw some great upside in Sennecke. His highlight reel is pretty insane for a 6’2 kid who’s still seems to be growing. I personally think Demidov>>>Sennecke now and potentially.

Time will tell with Sennecke but he doesn't have just a handful of highlights he has a bunch of him. His moves can be ridiculous! Give him a couple of years to mature his game and fill out a bit with his new size and the kid might be considered a beast. He likes to hit too, which is good.

I definitely think Sennecke can turn out to be a really good player. The problem is he got taken in a spot where you're not going for a "really good player." You're going for a franchise cornerstone and there were those guys still available (Demidov, Lindstrom, Helenius, any of the top-end D)

@@DaRinkRat Not sure we can consider a 3OA pick a "cornerstone" player, that argument is much stronger at 2OA and obviously 1OA. It would be unbelievable to get a cornerstone player at 3OA, based on past drafts dated back to 1963, cornerstone player % for 3OA is low.
Sennecke had a ton of energy surrounding him into the draft from professional scouts, it was rumored CBJ wanted him at 4. Not as much of a reach as being presented. Time will tell for all these names at the end of the day.
You also assume Ducks had the ability to trade back in a deal that favored what they wanted, and that Sennecke would have been available in the slot they trade back for.

    • @cecaju9516
      @cecaju9516 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@SH-zq4uy many cornerstone players have been drafted later than 3OA. He’s got that type of upside.
I think a lot of players drafted this year have a decent shot at becoming cornerstone players.

Wild did trade to 12 to get Buium. Worth the third round pick, though.

Wild did trade up for Zeev, gave up a 3rd rd pick in 2025. If Flyers just drafted Zeev, they could’ve had 2 straight drafts with steals with Matvei Michkov last years draft. Flyers should’ve fleeced Wild by telling them I’m taking Zeev over their pick Jett over Eiserman.

Greentree's skating is such a problem. I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd fallen entirely out of the 1st round.

LA Kings just love players who are not good skaters. Greentree is pretty much a left-handed Gabe Vilardi. He'll will get traded for Pierre Luc Dubois all over again. LOL. Rob Blake is a terrible GM.

Basha at 41 is a crazy steal and that's coming from a guy whose team got Demidov.
5 years from now, when Basha has a better career than Lindstrom, everyone will understand.

i did not agree with these picks, but one; Luchanko. THE biggest steal of this draft was obviously Justin Poirier, who fell all the way to 156th (ranked 29-70). one of biggest steals also was Luke Misa, who for some reason fell all the way to 150th (ranked 25-65)...
Then there is Aron Kiviharju at 122nd, which was another odd drop, because he was supposed to go between 19-50...
I had all three go in the first round on my list. All three will be elite in the NHL and lots of gm's and scouts be eating some crow.

He's very good but he's still a reach. Yakemchuk is less a reach than Sennecke is. He shouldn't even be there. Sennecke was 10+ on most list and ended top 3 is the reason why. He's still very talented and could blossom to a top3 talent still.

Its funny when people are talking about steals and reaches because it is based on what? The consensus rankings are just public opinions made by random people who copies other lists. It has been said MANY times about this draft that between #2 and #12 it could go in any direction. Well the draft just proved that. To me, its impossible to say who is a steal or who is a reach until we wait about 3-4 years. Because, if you look back at older drafts, lets just say last year. Everyone was saying the leafs made a HUGE reach to get Easton Cowan. After the season Cowan had, pretty sure the Leafs made an amazing pick.
