I like the move by Caps. Kemps hasnt been the same since the birth of his child, and now age 34. Caps had to move him especially with Stephenson and Shepherd knocking at the door. PLD has NMC only 4yrs, then 15NMC, then 10NMC. Other teams also wanted him, so he will have trade value in the future. Main help for the Caps is power play. Caps suddenly got much better there. Backy is done, and so may be Oshie. Caps have proven things with Strome, and Carbery also showed what he could do with Mantha. Good move GMBM!
As a Kings fan, I'm so sorry to the Capitals fans. I truly hope he turns it around this time. Also, as a Kings fan, this was incredible news!!!! I can't believe it! We're out of this contract!!!!
Rob Blake is a genius....oh, wait.....he originally traded for and signed PLD.....ultimately costing the Kings 3 1st round players and 3 2nd round picks/players.....oh, and don't forget how he wisely got out of the Cal Petersen contract...another....contract....he gave out (and we are still paying for with Prokorov)......and how about that Dion Phaneuf trade....yea....well, at least that one finally came off the books.....and then there was the interim-coach Willie D decision.....hmmmm....yep, Rob is sitting in his office wondering why he hasn't won the Manager of the Year award......
Unfortunately you can't really consider this a win for the Kings when you take into consideration everything that Blake gave up to acquire this slug. Getting out of the contract is great, but the consequences of trading away our future core players will be a blight on the franchise for years to come. At least we have a great track record of rehabilitating goaltenders. I believe Keumper will secure the 1A position with the help of Bill Ranford and his team. Go Kings Go!
Honestly I feel the complete opposite as you do. He finally gets a chance to be a top line centre and play first line pp. Matt Roy came out and said he’s a great teammate. He also hasn’t been in a room with guys like Ovi, Willy, carly. He has also been Roomates with Dylan strome st the world juniors. Plus he’s a better skater, more skilled and more physical than strome.
LA has some good leaders like Kopitar, Danault and Doughty. But PLD will have more fun playing in DC, even if he only puts up 40 points a season. Overpayment, sure. But there's worse contracts than PLD.
Great trade by the Caps. Was completely wasted in LA. They were stupid to acquire him when they had Kopitar, Danault and Byfield already. Dubois was compeltely wasted. Caps will gladly take him and give him the proper time he needs to be a legit 1C.
I think PLD will do well in Wash. He is a very moody guy that is for sure, but he will get his chances with Ovi and on PP1. Backstrom is done, so it is his spot to win now.
The Caps obviously won this trade. They need a top 6 center, Dubois has elite potential only at age 26, is 6’4 220 and fits the Caps franchise historic reputation of heavy & physical and is finally for the first time in his career on a coaching staff that’s suitable for all walks of life of players. A coaching staff that got a team that was projected to be a draft lottery team into being a playoff team, all they were missing was offensive scoring power this entire season. The Caps gain more offense, continuing their defensive style structure of play and they’re bound to be seeding as a top 3 team in the Metro and not a team fighting for a WC spot. Kuemper is a very inconsistent goalie that’s now past age 30, he’s more of a backup these days yet apparently rumor has it LA is expected to have him as their starting goalie YIKES 😳. After yet another 1st round exit to the Oilers, the Kings clearly seem like a team that’s headed outside of playoff contention where on the contrary the Caps have the cap space, AHL depth and draft capital to be a completely more enhanced team by the start of next season.
Pierre Luc Dubois for Canada at the worlds is amazing …. In the NHL he seems to want to play his own way and doesn’t fit into a lot of places . He is actually a center big guy and can play but I am happy my team didn’t get him . Kings signed him to the contract
GMBM is a risk taker but kinda genius. I think it will work out for DC and they managed to get rid of Kuemper too. Not bad with lots of upside potential. That contract goes from worst to best if PLD turns it on which he can with this opportunity.
@@spiderjerusalem6887 with the cap going up significantly the 8.5 won’t hit the same as 8.5 does now. LA’s system wasn’t right for him, DC has more potential.
I know you're a caps fan, man, but you did this whole trade breakdown without acknolwedging the guy is actually a center and you even went as far as to call him a winger. He absolutely crushed it his last two seasons in Winnipeg, at center, and was a great center in Columbus while he was developing. He also played center in LA and they experimented on the wing (ill-advised). Think you might be very, very wrong on this one. He's easily a 65+ point center. Strome's on a bargain contract, PLD is overpaid. The total money allocated across top-six centers is totally fine.
my first reaction was WTF!! it just got worse ...straight-up no additional picks for taking on the difference of 3 million in cap space and term saving the kings gm,s ass? i thought we got rid of all the headcases, mantha ,kuzy..and pending ethan bear. maybe leonard comes in and we get a myro leonard dubois line...i was just bitching about how quiet the caps were, now im not sure. on the other hand mayby not since dylan strom and then oshie a decade ago a move works out for us. we are due.
As a VGK fan, I hope they dump Mantha! Horrible acquisition! He played like 6'4" of chewed bubblegum! Is he afraid to pressure the net, check, etc. He definitely did not help us, so I laughed that the Caps picked up Pierre Luc DBag. Haha
Player for player it is a trade that helps both teams. The difference is the contracts and the Caps lost big time on that front. My question is why do it now? I think the Caps should have taken more time to explore options. This seemed like it was done in a hurry.
Way too cynical and harsh on PLD. Of course, I understand the rationale but let's see if his talents finally prevail. As my old physics teacher used to say "We will see what we will see."
I really don’t get why caps fans give a shit lmao they are entering the purgatory period every team goes through after success where they aren’t gonna be relevant again for like 5-10 years. pLD will either make the offense a bit more entertaining next year or they’ll still just be super mid
The capitals are the American Maple Leafs. They are one of if not the wealthiest team in the NHL. Like the Leafs, they don't care if they win, they sell out most of their games. Doesn't matter if they win.
Guy is a locker room cancer, fourth team at 25 years old, not good. The biggest winners in this whole saga so far, The Winnipeg Jets. The players they got for Dubois have been pretty solid so far and I thought Dubois was going to thrive in LA, but man I'll eat that loss. This past year may have been one of his worst ever.
Obviously blake is a moron but no matter how you look at it, this is HUGE break for LA. Blakes just trying to fix the horrible spot he put the Kings in but getting PLD off the books and not retaining any salary is massive.
Great trade for the Capitals. Dubois will put up points, likely aiding Ovechkin in his quest to break Gretzky's record, while being so utterly atrocious overall that he'll actively hurt the team when he's on the ice due to lackluster defensive play and unspirited play. It's the perfect scenario. Two years to attempt to aid Ovi while still keeping the team in the basement, followed by five years of tanking for the rebuild.
In Columbus and Winnipeg PLD was a center, so the Caps are likely looking for a top end center to play with Ov. I am not saying it will work, but I think this was the thought process behind the trade. If you are a Washington fan .. don't worry. In a couple years he will demand a trade, because this is how he rolls.
You forgot that the 2RDP Blake gave up to WPG was acquired when Durzi went to AZ for the pick. In effect, it's Vilardi/Iafallo/Durzi for Kuemper. I'm less unhappy though. We can still see contracts on puckpedia.
Gretzky to LA was an amazing trade, Oilers won another cup and made WCF two more times, Kings made SCF which they lost in a close series and it all paved they way for Sharks and Ducks into the league
As a Kings fan I watched him all year long and I am ecstatic that he’s gone!
