Complaints about Brunette are fine, but two things; Brunette has only been a coach for one full season and one almost full season, secondly the Preds were completely overmatched at forward compared to Vancouver, to the point where the Nuck's third line was better then the Pred's first line. I was very upset that my Nashville couldn't upset Vancouver with a 3rd stringer in net, but at the end of the day when Nyquist and O'Reilly are among your "big guns", you don't stand a chance.

They should make the playoffs but the all to consistent low effort and riding Hellebuyck night in and night out as they take 10, 15, 25 minutes just going through the motions will catch up to them again come the playoffs. They are the Leafs of the West. Can't handle the pressure when it is on in late April. Hellebuyck was human in the playoffs last year and had no help, like virtually every other year. It would probably be best for the franchise long term if they crash and burn missing the playoffs, then there can't be anymore excuses that the door has already closed on this core. Conner, Hellebuyck, and Morrissey are the only core pieces that should be safe. All others are potentially expendable.

Should’ve made Backstrom the captain years ago. Played a 200 ft game and carried the defensive workload so Ovie could stand still in his spot to be fed passes. Caps players exist for one reason, to perpetually elevate their king. In their prime cup contender years, that team had so much talent in all positions, but weak leadership and they underperformed. Backstrom with the C and I bet they’d have another cup with that move alone.

Can’t agree with your opinion of role players. Maybe in the regular season, but most definitely not in playoffs. It’s often your 3rd and 4th lines that are the difference in a long series or long run. And you can’t just list corsi and point totals to determine their value. There’s many intangibles that coach’s and GM’s are looking for. Go back and look at cup winning teams and their bottom 6 forwards (and even bottom 3 defensivemen). So many key plays that made the difference.

The wild had there captain all of what 9 games last year? Them not having Spurgeon was a huge blow, Kaprizov started the year last year still hurt and didn't really look like himself until January. Wild will look better this year than last year and if they dont battle injuries like last year they'll upset/surprise people. Going after marner would have been dumb.
