Prioritizing right hand D is not drafting for need. Right hand D are hard to find, making them more valuable prospects. Reinbacher was a great pick. Especially when you consider there were a ton of red flags when it came to Michkov. Also, it's better to take your defensive prospects before you offensive ones, as D men take longer to develop.

Let’s be honest should probably have been Mitchkov. We can say what we want but talent like that is hard to pass on Then again what did Chicago do this year. I think both teams made a mistake. The good thing about is history will show that we got the right one I think Mitchkov is a Prima Donna but still would have drafted and traded as we were just getting into the rebuild. I know Culture is important but ask Philly if they would trade Mitchkov for Reinbacher right now. We know that this year there was a lot of good defensemen but look what happened forwards went first. Us ending up with Demi was a fluke unless the word collusion comes into play. I know it’s easy to say everybody love’s everybody and everything is good but this is professional hockey. Teams that have good Culture don’t talk about it. It is just there you will never hear KH or Gordon talk about it’s just our fanbase out thinking that somehow gives us an unfair advantage because nobody else thought of it. What scares me is if we don’t make moves because we’re so caught up in Culture. Thank God our management doesn’t fall for any of this. We talk about trades where we give all our unwanted for say Necas thinking it will go. KH would never insult the other team like that. No but RD big mobile defenseman are a minority premium that is hard to come by so they get a little bit of an algorithm bonus imo. The draft is the only thing to look forward to when you suffer the misery of a bottom-five finish. To pass on an exciting prospect for a boring, but essential prospect felt like a kick in the face. Kent Hughes did him no favours when he described his ceiling as a "D2". Better be if you're picking him top five. So, I understand why fans were upset. It's even worse when you're an older fan like me. You've seen decades of a team that seemed allergic to any offensive flash or excitement. Demidov getting drafted was the best thing that ever happened to David Reinbacher. All will be forgotten.

Of course Demidov and Mitchkov would have beed killer. But the catastrophic decision is irreversible and we have to accept Reinbacker, and not make him feel that it is his fault. He is just a well intentioned kid who did his best, and got cought in some bizarre political plot to skip on the Russian player (it is the only reason that can explain this totally illogical and flat out stupid move). Reinbacker will always feel that he is a deception to the fans, he knows that Michkov should have been the one.. he's not stupid.., and this is a heavy weight to carry, the fans will never really be happy about him. If I was him, I would ask to be traded to an organization were he will be free to just be himself and not having to say "sorry you got me".. If I was his agent I would advise him to do it. Look at Reinbacker's face during interviews. This isn't a happy confident kid. He is serious and nervous, he doesn't feel that he is deserving. David if you read this, remember that you ow nothing to the Montreal Canadiens. Your job is to be happy and successful. You can still do it, the fans will understand. Go to another organization who will be thrilled to have you on tue team.
