    Hi Everyone! If you love seeing fibre, fabric, thread and yarn close up then this channel just might be for you. I love everything fibre and show my favourite fabrics, yarns and sewing/knitting accessories etc while describing and explaining what I have learned in my sewing and knitting journey.
    Just to note that I am a very beginner sewist and an even newer knitter. I'm learning a lot about both crafts but am in no way proficient at either of them. This channel is as much about my mistakes as it is about my successes in these endeavours.
    In this video I show my second (of 3!) wool purchases from the Woolyknit website www.woolyknit.com. These were made over the Black Friday Weekend for context. Please note I know very little about wool and these are my just my first impressions from this shop. I'm learning about different yarn weights, what hanks are and the different terminology of the wool world. So please overlook when I get things glaringly wrong.

    Thank you for featuring this yarn and company! I haven't been able to find much information on it. Your videos are very helpful.

    Thank you very much for these videos on your Woolyknit yarn hauls. I'm planning on taking advantage of the Creabea discount code and couldn't decide on which colours to pick. Given the exchange rate and high shipping costs to Canada, I'd like to choose wisely. I appreciate how you describe the colours and take close up shots. Your comparisons between different yarns are very helpful too. I'm so glad that I found you before making my purchase. Too bad the Mallard and Cinnamon cones are sold out. We share a love for autumnal colours.

      Thank you so much for watching! I love the actual yarn above all else and am so happy to find people who also share that sentiment :-) And autumn colours are the best!

    I am in love with the two hanks. I wish some of our wools (in the US) came in a cone.

      Me too! The hanks have all been amazing colours! I'm knitting with the burgundy right now and it's beautifully rich and deep.

      You can order cones from overseas. Bendigo Woollen Mills in Australia definitely sends orders to the US. They have cones in 2 and 3 ply. They also have shade cards which they send out to their customers.
      Jamieson and Smith in the Shetland Islands (part of Scotland) also have cones and also send orders overseas - they say that the wool on their cones is treated slightly differently to the balled wool in order to optimise its performance when used with a knitting machine.

    Rioja, I believe, is a region in Spain famous for the red wine :) both the trigo and the rioja, and all the colors! Are beautiful!!

      Thank you - so it's the name of a geographical region within Spain and the red wine?

      Yes. La Rioja / + - lah-ree-oh-ha/ is a region of Spain that produces a variety of red (rioja) wines.

      Thank you! Everytime I see it I wonder at what it means (but am then too lazy/forgetful to google lol!). Basically 'wheat' cream which is so apt. It is a lovely lovely shade :-)

    You've got some gorgeous wools there. With the tweed cone I'd be thinking in terms of a heavily textured knit, even something like Cretan stitch (which isn't strictly speaking knitting).
    I'm also somewhat visually impaired, I was nearly blind as a small child and at my age, my eyesight is very much on the downhill run. I do a lot of my knitting by feel and counting, which is how I'm able to do very fine work. I also have one of those lamp-cum-magnifying glass things for crafters.

    • @CedarTreesBumblebees
      @CedarTreesBumblebees  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's amazing! I've noticed that as I become more experienced in knitting, it is as much by feel now as by sight. When I have a flare up it is purely by feel (although only stockinette in the round). Thanks for the pattern suggestions. I haven't heard of the Cretan stitch so will look it up now :-)

    Thank you for the extensive comparison between the shades and close-up shots. They are very helfpull. I too am from Canada and have been considering different options. Have you ever considered trying machine knitting? You have the perfect stash for it.

    • @CedarTreesBumblebees
      @CedarTreesBumblebees  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful Catherine! I have heard people speaking of machine knitting but honestly don't know much about it at all. I gather you would need a specialised knitting machine like a sewing machine? It sounds like a whole new aspect to this craft and I might look into it. Thank you for the suggestion, it's great to find out new things I might be able to do with fibre and yarn :-)

    I am in LOVE with WoollyKnit!!! But it’s hard to get it shipped to me in the US because I have to wait for a “shipping quote” and sometimes that takes a while. But hopefully I’ll be able to get more soon.

      I know how you feel. Postage prices can be so eye watering! This is why I try not to look at yarns not from the UK although it's so hard sometimes as the global variety is amazing. Hope you get a chance to experience the Woolyknit yarn somehow :-)

    How would you rate the merino cone it term of softness for someone who's sensitive to wool? I don't mind superwash merino

    • @CedarTreesBumblebees
      @CedarTreesBumblebees  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a difficult one because softness is so relative. To me it is pretty soft but not so much softer than the 4ply British wool. I have never experienced superwash yarn so don't know how that feels but this is a soft yarn in my opinion.

    • @ChenShaham
      @ChenShaham 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks :) I think that gives me a pretty good idea of how soft it is@@CedarTreesBumblebees

      I once weighed it and from memory I believe it was 30g approx.
