I made this short 4 min video with only one simple objective - to raise awareness of the different types of sugars one might find in the packaged foods. This video does not cover in depth the science, including the metabolism of, the different sugars, it was not my intention nor was it possible with this short video. I note from the comments that there are some who do not see the point of this video nor find it useful. I take your feedback and will try to improve for my future videos. To those who have found it useful, I'm glad and am encouraged. Thank you. I apologise that I am not able to reply to individual comments - mainly because there are just too many across all my videos in all my different social media platforms. Blessings Dr Chan
From an eater's perspective, the seven types of sugar in today’s cuisine are Granulated Sugar, Powdered Sugar, Brown Sugar, Sanding Sugar, Turbinado Sugar, Demerara Sugar, and Muscovado Sugar.
Many thanks, Dr. Chan. I'm embarking on a journey of developing awareness and encouraging people to give up soft drinks, sweets and processed food. It would be useful if you could make videos supporting this idea. Many thanks in advance.
Your body makes glucose in the absence of carbohydrates. It’s called gluconeogenesis. Your body is smart and nose that it needs it. Since we only hold about 5 g in our blood system at one time, the extra is stored in the liver and in the fat cells. It definitely affects the mitochondria and cancer loves the extra sugar.
Dr. Chan, I can't thank you enough for posting these videos. I'm learning more from you than all the doctor's I've seen throughout the years! I'm new to your channel this week and will share it with everyone I know! I've switched to Munk Fruit. What are your thoughts, or maybe you can make a video? I look forward to your videos. Thank you again!
glucose,as that is the sugar that all the cells of your body can use... and fructose is the most harmful because of the way it is metabolised in the liver... so avoid fructose as much as you can(both fruit and other sugary sources) and if you have to have fruit have it in the morning when glycogen levels i the liver are low or empty...
@@legendrysuperman I agree! IF you must use one of them then glucose and maltose are the better choices to avoid fructose and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. They're not as sweet as sucrose but I believe maltose syrup is the choice if you don't want artificial sweeteners. Unfortunately, you'll have the calories and the blood glucose spike.
its, better to limit fructose(both sugars and fruit)in your diet to no more that 7 to 10 grams... and have it in the morning when liver glycogen levels are already depleted and fructose fills only liver glycogen and when liver glycogen levels are full it is converted to fat and often leads to fatty liver, high triglycerides and other lipids in the blood (ldl, vldl), which can lead to metabolic syndrome... and remember one thing fructose is fructose, be it fruit or any other source...
I think insulin spikes vary based on the person. I dont quite know why, but I do remember having come across some study showing how they are very different from person to person.
Hey Doctor My A1C Is 5.2 But For A Week I’ve Been Having Sweet Saliva In Mouth And Waking Up To Urinate 2 Or 3 Times A Night, Also My Urine Has Bubbles But NO PROTEIN. There’s no glucose in the urine either. I Also Wake Up Twice To Urinate. My Lab Results Are All Normal Except My Cholesterol Which Is High. I Also Get These Strange Burning Sensations On My Thighs And Forehead After They Gave Me A Brain CT Scan I Didn’t Need. What could be causing the sweetness in my mouth?
Check your insulin levels. High insulin will eventually lead to unsulun reaistance; pre diabetes; diabetes. Continued intake of prilocessed foods and carbs will eventually lead to this condition even if you "think" you are eating "healthy".
I watch all your videos but I just don’t get the point of this video. I happen to be a health care professional and cannot figure out how is this video of any help to anyone watching it. What everybody needs to know is which one is healthy and which ones to be avoided. Not a consumer friendly information! Thank you
get ur carbs from starchy sources that will provide glucose like grains(rice, wheat, oats) and veggies. and avoid fructose sources like fruits and other sugary foods...

Thank you for keeping your videos informative yet quick and straight to the point.
Sugar molecules have always had similar names, and I was confused, but thanks to this video, I have a solution now. Thank you very much!
Good job helping these people Chan, you broke it down well, and easily understandable.
glad you found it useful. Cheers, Dr Chan

Which one to avoid?
Which ones are healthier/should be avoided?
They are all simple sugars. But a bag of dextrose at your health foods store if you need carbs for weight training.
focus on glucose and avoid fructose as much as you can(fruits and other sugary sources)...
Superb well briefed
which of these 6 sugars is most beneficial for the human body? thank you sir.
Glucose I would guess
glucose,as that is the sugar that all the cells of your body can use... and fructose is the most harmful because of the way it is metabolised in the liver... so avoid fructose as much as you can(both fruit and other sugary sources) and if you have to have fruit have it in the morning when glycogen levels i the liver are low or empty...

Thank You
Thank you very much sir.
Most welcome
THANKS DR.
How do thru differ in how they affect your body
Do these types of sugars can cause diabetes?
What about dextrose from corn? what sugar category make up this type. Thanks.
Thank you
❤❤❤ thank you for this video
Glad you found it useful. Blessings, Dr Chan
Difference between sucrose and maltose?
Good information
Can you made video about (fosstevia)
How it made
And what is fos?
What is Stevia?
Fos+Stevia............
HI DR CHAN, SOME SCIENTESTS SAY THAT THE METABOLISM SYNDROME IS MADE MY FRUCTOSE! SO DOES THIS MEANS THAT WE HAVE TO STOP EATING FRUITS?
its, better to limit fructose(both sugars and fruit)in your diet to no more that 7 to 10 grams... and have it in the morning when liver glycogen levels are already depleted and fructose fills only liver glycogen and when liver glycogen levels are full it is converted to fat and often leads to fatty liver, high triglycerides and other lipids in the blood (ldl, vldl), which can lead to metabolic syndrome... and remember one thing fructose is fructose, be it fruit or any other source...
But you don't explain how they work on our insulin spikes... Or if they are healthy or not...
Absence of fibre in the diet and over consumption will overwhelm the pancreas
I think insulin spikes vary based on the person. I dont quite know why, but I do remember having come across some study showing how they are very different from person to person.
What about Dextrose
Why sugar have different level of sweetness?
And then, even furthermore, there are all of the sugar alternatives; acesulfame K, aspartame, xylitol, erythritol, stevia, monk fruit extract, etc.
Dextrose?
Ribose?
