That bulldog welding company is badass. What a legend for taking care of everything free at cost.

Idk why some people have so many negative comments? Joe has great knowledge and skills in not only repairing small engines but also in how he takes the time to present and show us pretty much step by step on how to do repairs! Im sure he could very well be working at any shop doing repairs but why should he? Joe seem to enjoy what hes doing and im sure his financial situation is just fine since hes able to fund and buy new projects! And please leave his awesome wife outta of all the negative comments! Joe keep us entertained please and wanna let you know big fan here in Sudbury, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Jealousy, simple as
Ditto
People who have to put themselves above others to feel some type of (false)superiority. They hide behind their screen and type haste. Cowards to be honest. I’d love to see a channel start calling people out and inviting them to build and race to back up their mouthing.
@@houstonhowell3618I could agree with you more!
There are a lot of fools in this world. Joe is great at what he's doing. He's young and has room for improvement, sure, but aren't we all works in progress? Let the scoffers scoff.
I've noticed people are way ruder on social media when nobody is there to bitch slap em 😂
Love these videos
@@NunyaBusiness251 I think this world would be a much better place if we'd bring that consequence back as standard operating procedure!? 🤣
Disagree kinda...
Real life rudeness...
facebook heroes 🤣
Agree completely, like a dog barking behind a fence, the western world has become extremely soft and emotionally lead while the eastern countries are hard, aggressive and winning. Not that they’re better, they just remember their history, we have governments trying to erase and rewrite our history.
Google doesn't care as long as they viewed the entire vid, they still help the channel.
Yall fighting invisible comments or something cuz I don’t see anything negative lol. This guy always does phenomenal work
That’s what I was thinking lol
He has other videos with all the comments being hate, have been watching him for a while now and every other video is just filled with bs hate comments on him not doing this or that right pretty often.
I love the only advertising on the channel is for other small business's that us watching might actually use!!
So fire
Joe is a real one
Reasons or reason I like this channel. 1 there are no links to buy a raffle ticket to hopefully win one of his rebuilds. 2 there is not a lot of wtf editing done pretty much straight forward. 3 Joe is just a calm dude and does really good work. Thanks for the posting.
Same, camera is not on or about him, it's the the project
I think the opportunity to win one of the builds would be sick
how interesting would it be to hear him cuss or get mad just once tho 😂
Probably does. Just cuts the camera off for it lol@technerdy
Bulldog welding did a great job! What a nice guy 👍
Bulldog Welding has the right idea when it comes to advertising. A great way to give and receive value. The world needs more of this attitude when it comes to small business.
I did a screen shot of the Business card. I'm gona use them.
I’ve definitely noticed the marketing aspect of bulldog welding I would definitely consider him if I was closer and I am a welder myself simple because his ingenuity. What he did was the nicest way to get his name out there.
Hi Joe. A few videos back in this series, I linked a video where a guy doing crankcase pressure testing on a boggy 95 cr250 engine. He claimed that the manual stated that the power valve shafts going down through the cylinder into the cases where you showed us how carefully you made sure they connected properly, must be coated in a special molybdenum grease before reinstallation.
His pressure integrity test was failing (not holding pressure) until he removed those power valve shafts parts and coated them in the moly grease. After greasing those parts up with the Molybdenum grease and reinstalling them, his crankcase pressure test held pressure and the bog went away.
Again, he claimed that there is something in the factory service manual about this. He also claimed in his video that all the 95 cr250 engines have this issue if those power valve shafts parts aren't coated in the moly grease.
Under rated comment 😁
Wow I will look into this! Do you happen to have the link?
It's the same setup for 1992-2001, For needing that molly lube in the Power valve arm/Shaft, The engines are the same only the porting changed in the cylinders throughout the years, Also I believe they went from a flat top to a dome top piston in that time frame, as well,

I'm an old man now, but I've pretty much done this kind of stuff all my life, you've got skills bud, I'm impressed. 👍
This is one of the best-looking bikes on the channel. Gorgeous!!
Lovely colours.
yea cool lookking
The world needs more people like Joe. Hard work and not taking the easy buck. Love the videos.
$200 sucks, but CDI does sound like the next thing to try. I had a similar problem on a different bike but it had basically the same symptoms - sputtering (rich) when it got too hot. I had an aftermarket CDI that worked great for 6 years but I went back to OEM and it fixed it.
You probably already know, but that silencer also sounds like there's no packing in it (I know from experience, lol). I doubt it's causing the problem, but it can affect the jetting (air/fuel mixture).
That guy who did the welding is awesome man! Great looking bike
Crazy to see this one getting finished up or at least making some progress. Shoutout to Bulldog Welding!!! That’s awesome
Great job Bulldog , we need a guy like you up here in Canada
You'll chase the problem down Joe. You always do.
Thanks for taking us on your journeys, fixing stuff & even letting us in on other projects that you do.
I remember when you installed your red & white checkered flooring in your garage.
Your patience and knowledge are amazing, long after I'd taken a sledgehammer to it. Props to Bulldog Welding, great work, and you have your first sponsorship
I love your videos! Screw the haters. You’re very educated and I love the way you walk us through your videos. Helps me a ton when I’m working on my projects with my son. You’re helping me create forever memories and I can’t thank you enough.
Sitting on my cr85 watching this can’t ask for much more in life

Man I love the look of the old bikes, just something about them looks better
They do,must b nostalgia I think brother?🤔🤔👋💪🤝🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Hats off to BullDog Welding, thank you Aaron
Even though you haven’t tracked down the issue everything done was much needed, especially the case repairs, shout out to Bulldog Welding, you’ll get it, you like the challenge!
I know nothing about bikes and ATVs, but I sure enjoy watching you and your great skills. Also that you explaine as you go. I'm a retire I T. I enjoy the details of the repairs and trouble shooting skills. Kinda like I T. But not even the same. Thanks for your content
Bulldog welding is 15 minutes from my house and I never knew of them. Awesome he was able to get fixed up and now I know where to do if i need anything welded. Awesome to see you got it 100% fix, it sounds like it rips!
This may not be going great for you but for your viewers it’s awesome like reading a mystery novel. Looking forward to the last chapter. Hang in there my friend 👍🏼😊
Great comment!
I’m confident that Joe will solve the mystery soon!
Joe, absolutely love your videos. Really enjoy how you explain everything. Brings me back to my younger days. Your knowledge of small engines is extensive. Also your knowledge of all systems related to these bikes, four wheelers, and side by sides is amazing. Keep up the good work buddy.
I feel like I have completed a course at MMI when I watch your videos so helpful especially on common issues with certain bikes.
This man never gives up on ATVs / dirtbikes... Crazy patience I'll never have😂
We will get there my man keep up the good work,
Love all the way from tanzania 🇹🇿 👍🏼
Joe is on the brink of losing that shroud bolt @37:40 !!
I hate it for you man. You've done everything right. You did all the obvious things and now you've crossed out the more obscure things and you're still getting that bog. I hate money pit projects like this. Makes you want to throw all your wrenches through the wall and regret having ever taken on the project in the first place. There's no need to leave negative comments or critiques. It's not a simple repair. That's all. Everyone has encountered at super complicated job that's really hard to diagnose & repair. I hate it when repairs come to trial and error where you have to start throwing parts at it to find the solution. I hope that CGI takes care of the problem so you can cut your losses on this project and never have to lay eyes on that bike ever again.
I get a kick out of the know it all comments on here! Keep up the hard work you’re doing a great job!
I know so many negative comments. I worked an automotive machine shop my skills are nowhere near the level of this man's. But everything we did by the time the build came around look like brand new. I don't know what happened here. Between pressure washing sandblasting and hot tanking everything was brilliantly shiny. By the time we were at this stage the most you'd ever need to do is wipe it off with a clean shop rag. I don't know everyone's different and still interesting to watch thanks for the video.
Just a tip: on the Hondas of the 90s there is an easier way to get the carb in and out. Take the seat off, loosen the rear clamp where the airbox connects to the carb. Take out the bottom bolts on the subframe. The whole subframe/airbox/rear fender/numberplate assembly will tip upward, pulling the airbox boot away from the carb, giving you more room to wiggle the carb out or into place.
I suggested that a while ago love that too it saves a lot of fighting with carb God Bless.. Virgil
I've said it before and ill say it again, I've had exactly the same with a CR250 stator in the past. I also rebuilt the engine 3 times, then finally swapped the stator and it was fixed. I was in exactly the same situation.
I have a 95 CR250 but I'm in the UK. If you were here I'd gladly let you test it.
Hey Joe, at the 4:40 mark you installed the crank to crank seal collar. It looks like that collar had a pretty significant groove worn into it. I recommend replacing that collar. Also, if the collar is worn on the outside, it might be worn or damaged on the inside to the crank shaft. I bet you are getting an air leak at that collar-to-seal or collar-to-crank-shaft. The grease u applied probably created an okay seal and starting getting worse as you drove it until thr grease was gone. Just my .02 Love the videos! And kudos to Aaron the welder! Glad to see us Michigan boys representing!
Also, Motosport has a collar kit that adds orings to the inside of the collar to crank shaft seal point that might help.
Heat the CDI and coil with a hair dryer and test for resistance.
Smart
CDI is an electronic module with a bunch of microchips inside - testing its resistance will tell nothing.
Yup unfortunately there's no way to test a cdi besides trying another
It’s great just to watch the number of views just rolling up. These videos are very entertaining. Well done Joe.
Check the HT lead,I had a bog on an old KX250…it had a captive HT joined into the coil, the lead had corroded within…so I angle ground the top plastic on the coil,to expose the joint for the HT lead.Mine mainly bogged on wide throttle and when it was warm/hot…basically it was ‘breaking down’ under load…When I stripped the lead,I could see the corrosion…new lead, bogged up the top of the coil again, and BOOM…virtually free fix.I went through ALL the other stuff before doing this…carb, etc…good luck.
Your contents inspiring bro, legend!. Watching from South Auckland, New Zealand 🇳🇿
50 hours or not. This is time well spent for this beauty. One of my favorite model years for the CR next to the 85.
Official Golden Age 2 Stroke!
Older CR's are so nice!
Cheers man watching this is getting my memory going i use to be able to pull them apart and back together in a few hours but forgot car accident took one injury was a fractured skull had to quit racing
You read my mind with ignition components, clean bike for the year
Just a helpful tip. Turn those oil bottles the other way & it will pour out smoothly & not glug out.
Great video. I seen a comment a few videos ago asking what you did with all of your machines. Would love to see some sort of video along those lines. Kind of a q &a format
That gasket maker is the bees knees. Seals up solid! Been using it my whole life.
In the video he shows putting it on the case side when he 1st places the paper gasket, my question is do I also put that on the metal of the other side of the case before sandwiching them back together?
@@catrider4863 Yes. The motoseal should be on both sides of the gasket.
Trust me on this part of it for once Joe. If that doesn't improve the bogging part try advancing.,or deadvancing the timing TDC setting's on the stator for the pickup coil spark advancement.
Bigger main jet
move needle clip to top position for the aftermarket silencer ( might need repacking)
check cdi
great video again!
I use the moto seal on just about everything. Works great
My hat's off to Bulldog.
I've welded a little aluminum and tried to weld a lot more. It got ugly in a hurry!
With all due respect joe have you reconsider switching out the plug never know it could be failing from time to time and not always switching out the carb just saying good luck and keep up the good work
Ebay has counterfit knockoff ngk plugs. Ngk has a video showing how to tell the difference. Almost impossible. Try a known to be good plug. May save some $
Hey man love your content , Big hug from Portugal 🇵🇹!! I’ve learned alot through your vídeos, one of the best theachers for us young people who just wants to learn , i’ve bought a 93’ KTM EXC 2stroke because of your videos,, best choice ive done ! Keep the good work 👊👊
It is a sharp bike. Definitely a bike worth the effort you're making. Great work Joe !
i had the cdi go bad on my 77 RM 125.. with a 92 RM 80 ignition...it did good spark when cold... when hot the high RPM stator coil quit and took out CDI box...3 times until i figured it out... yours gets hot and breaks up... weird symptoms for sure...
Big thanks to BULLDOG WELDING, for keeping the jb weld off this machine lol
He didn't keep it off it he wouldn't of put jb on it in the first place.
Idk he might of? Wouldn’t of been the first time we’ve seen JB weld repairs
@@fordfan6474 doubt it he replaces the case this is the first time he has even had one welded usually he just buys new cases.
I second Bulldog welding. Aaron does quality work. Well deserved recognition.
Have an engine shop Magnaflux the case, cylinder, and head. It will show cracks that you probably can't see that would expand when the bike heated up. If your CDI plan doesn't pan out.
Yup, I second that
Make sure the stator isn't getting hit by anything. This could happen because it's loose or not installed properly. Also, if your electrical system isn't producing enough power, that can reduce effective spark power when needed under heat and load
Gas tube looks flattened out, maybe restricting flow.
Imagine
I was thinking the same thing. I had a bass boat with a Mercury outboard. It would bog on the top end. No one could fix it. I sold it to a friend. He eventually found the problem. It was a fuel line issue. The fuel line had a weak/soft spot in it and it was collapsing at the higher speeds. Of course it was in a place where it was not easily found.
Could be when the engine gets hot the gas hose shrinks
Exactly
My pal had a Honda Cr125 1989 It was running good when it was cold, but when it was getting hot it just died on him. For him it was the CDI box. Good luck with the bike
At this point Joe data driven diagnostic is the way to go. There has to be a way to test the case pressure and cdi using a scope. Do know if it is more cost effective to swap parts or get sophisticated equipment. In your situation.
Good to know there is an awesome welding business near me that supported your channel! Keep up the good work, love your videos man!
Funny, my channel is All vintage, did it before I ever saw your channel.....really set up my channel as a joke to my kids in college. I really enjoy your channel and have learned a lot from you, your demeanor and presentation is almost therapeutic.....keep up the great work, I will continue to subscribe and be a fan
I'm amazed with his passion for the motor world as a mechanic, He will work on anything, I've been watching since his brother Charlie was in the videos Daily,
I like to use Hondabond on my case covers. Never a leak when I use that stuff. Great video buddy
Its awesome, one minute the engine is in bits then that afternoon your out riding, great skills and patience, you have give me a bit more confidence to do more bits on my bike, great channel
I've enjoyed this cr250 mini series, my hats off to you Joe, your like Perry Mason with engines, you keep at it till you find the issue or issues & you take us along with you thru the process, thanks, keep the videos coming.
Comment love frm CHI
It’s a jetting issue(lean)! With the silencer about out of packing (flowing too much) and the smaller pilot the bike Is OBVIOUSLY NOT happy. It DEFINITELY WILL B PERFECT AFTER you ADDRESS the LEAN CONDITION with repack/jets!!!🏁⚙️
couldn’t of said it better myself
Doesnt sound lean at all to me. If it is jetting related then it is too rich. I think it is weak spark at high rpm when hot. I agree with the silencer parking. Would sound wayyy better
@@simonsled661 did u catch the color of the spark plug? It was greyish/w-faint tan color. “Rich” would of been cardboard brown/black. Have a good one sir just my .02🫡
Been following this channel for many years now I’ve been stuck on a few of own projects and got help from videos on this channel keep at it doing amazing only have positive feedback for this channel
I have learned so much from this guy you do great work man keep it up and to all the haters out there you couldn’t do half of what he can do and do it for free like him
Joe, you really need to fabricate seal drivers. I have more than 30 different drivers that I fabricated so that a seal job is a no brainer that I can actually offer a warranty with. Very rare that one would need to shell out for an expensive driver.
Love this channel cause Vinny is top dog and you are a good guy too!
Great video! your videos are inspiring, i recently got my first 2 stroke bike, 1984 honda mtx that i am going to restore
You are getting there, sounding much better and smoke is so much less. I had a CR250R early 80s, amazing bike. I remember similar issues, mostly fuel quality related. Heat is probably changing the air mixture, who knows.
When testing these bikes timing & electrics CDI must test one of the first things.
Failing more than they used to
Dude I’ve literally watched all ur videos and now this is what I do for a living along side cars and stuff ur a big help to thanks
I’ve had one that was flooding when the needle valve and seat weren’t mating properly. Confirmed the problem by riding with the petcock turned off. The bogging cleared up when the fuel level in the bowl got lower.
This channel is teaching me lots thank you
Like watching your videos. Very impressive how you figure the problems out on these bikes. Just curious how you learned all this. I mean there is nothing you can’t figure out or fix. Keep up the videos. Good job.
I do the exact same thing as you! Buy vintage and restore. It keeps me alive. Keep up the good work my friend! Restoring a Fireblade now. I should also start a channel on this but i dont know how to edit!!! Lots of swearing! Lol.
Hey Joe try retarting the ignition. If it doesn't help put your meter on your coil and your CDI and heat them up with your heat gun to check and see if their breaking down. And check your voltage off your stator cold and hot. Pull your radiator cap and see if your adding any pressure from your cylinder into the radiator once it heats up. Maybe that will help. One thing I noticed on that piston you put on it's got some wear marks that could mean your a little bit oval shaped and your loosing your vacuum in the crank when it heats up but hard to tell over them cam
Shout out to a Fellow Michigan Man @Bulldog Welding for Hooking you up!
Joe, this thing is giving you a beating.
It has to be electrical.
The guy at Bulldog welding is a solid hand.
I got my structual certs in 1992.
Using his skills to help you is nod to how much he likes you.
Keep it up Joe, i sure enjoy your videos.
That was really cool Aaron did it for free and his work looked ok, perhaps he was worried it still might leak given cast aluminum is fickle to weld.. either way if you ever need any Ail welding done you found the right guy 👍👍 such a cool looking bike, was it worth repairing probably not but such a nostalgic bike, it was worth it just to get a little more out of it 👍👏 thanks Joe
Sweet ! Keep the CR 500 going ! Love it ! I love my CR 500 ! P.S. get the correct tires ! They do not look right !
Happy Days Joe Has Posted 🔥🔥🔥
Who’s Joel lol
Great job, you have more patience than me, at this point with my hands on my head I’m telling myself don’t forget to push it out of the garage before you light it in fire lol
Nice work Joe! It sounds like your silencer needs to be repacked
Damn Joe, that's a tough one. Heading into the electronics is the way to go I think. I spent my working career chasing electronics that only fail when hot. I'd do CDI 1st and then stator. Don't forget you can heat them with a heat gun in the shop while testing or cool them with freeze spray. ALSO, it just as easily could be a crimp connector wire corroded or pulled loose inside or a wire corroded under the cladding. If you can figure a way to use the heat gun with the bike running in the shop would be helpful. The problem is knowing when it's failed while testing on the stand. Definitely going to send some business to Bulldog Welding if I need any aluminum done. That guy is cool and savvy. Fingers crossed for you. You'll win this battle.
The 1995 CR 250 was a good year model. Good job not giving up on the project. I hope you get what you put into it back out if you sell it.
Just keep doing what you're doing I love the channel 🤘😎🤘
i have a 91 cr250 ...i bought it for 700 bucks with no kickstart on it and 2 bald tires off craigslist from some large fellow who seemed rather intoxicated .. ive now had the bike almost 20 years and it still has the same tires on it , ive never worked on it .. ever .. thing runs like a demon , 5th gear wheelies all day no clutch no front brake to pop it up .. power band alone ... i weight 160lbs... ... i hope you get this one figured out , im addicted to 90s bikes ,, i need to find a cr125 so my 250 has a little brother
Enjoying this series on troubleshooting. Would like to see what an ignition analyzer kit could show on the hot engine vs cold.
Thanks for another awesome video Joe, I’d like to request that even though it’s consuming quite a bit more of your time than usual please don’t give up yet, that bike for some reason is awesomely appealing to the eyes and I think you’re closer to victory than you think, keep that bulldog grip on getting it done and this bike probably will be one too add to your personal collection, stay positive and look past the negatives and it’ll all come to ahead in the long run…
Hello, what is your story on how you know so much about repairing motorcycles. You must years of experience. Did you go to any schooling for your knowledge? I really in joy watching you do your magic on your bikes.
Impressive fix. Your talent wins again.
That is really cool... Nicely done Aaron. I can't believe how many cracks that case had in it,
but I'm glad you were able to save it, and you got goodies too 😎
Unfortunately it still doesn't run right. At this point I would order both the CDI and the Stator.
Unless there is a small crack that somehow didn't get detected, which I highly doubt, you know
that the crankcase is sealed, so those will be the last big parts to try. If it was a short somewhere,
it wouldn't follow the exact same pattern every time, and it also wouldn't run fine just the first couple
minutes and then crap out so that really only leaves the CDI and Stator.
It has really good spark when it's cranked over, but who knows what the spark looks like at part or full throttle.
It would be interesting if there was a way to see the spark when you are riding it.
I instantly observed the machine not running rite. The jetting you chose to “run” was your mistake and once you bump up the pilot it will be fine. Good luck
The pilot jet controls low rpms once u your up in high rpms the main takes over ..I think he has a top end bog
Well that sucks...so much work and to still have a Gremlin is frustrating...when you took off while it was cold I was like YES, he got it! I bet you're leaning the right direction in the diagnosis but I'd put the original size jet in it as well and check for air leaks in the filter box.
