Very excited for this episode. I wanted on of these so badly in the 80's I was in HS in 1985 and had a poster of an Odyssey in the desert, right next to my Heather Locklear poster :)

On the master cylinder you pull the levers back not push them down. They will operate independently. Can’t wait for the drive video!! Always wanted one

  • @jeredalmeida1880
    @jeredalmeida1880 ปีที่แล้ว +9

That brake master cylinder is actually designed to pull. The arms act as 2 independent fulcrum on the same pivot point. When you squeeze the brake levers, they pull one side and the opposite side depresses the plunger. That's why they don't push down. Keep up the good work.
Can't wait to hear the exhaust note on that DG pipe.

I had the earlier version of that, the red one, bought it brand new! No rear suspension, barely any front suspension either, the CV clutch did not like water at all! We had so much fun on that machine, get someone standing on the back(do not attempt this at home) and ride wheelies forever! I worked construction and lived on a huge east coast egg farm as security and would use it for hauling things around the construction site. Between each coop was a swale to drain rain water from between the coops. One evening I was out “patrolling” and there was a crew of winos pulling old hens and I was showing off a little. Recent rains had deepened the swale and I stuffed the nose of that Odyssey into the far side of the swale, causing it to endo violently! I wasn’t wearing a helmet and wasn’t belted in! My head went out the top of the roll bar and slammed into the dirt just before the roll bar got there. I still suffer the affects of my stupidity thirty five years later!
Just bought a KTM adventure bike and now wear all the protection, every time!
You finding any mushrooms on your property, young fella? I picked 48 today!

They made alot of them for years but the 350 was just one year. They delayed releasing them. They even recalled a bunch. My wife was working at a Honda dealer then. Got to beat on a few brand new ones. The pilot was the smaller ones. Didn't impress me. Little rough riding. Seen a guy at the mud races beat one of the 350s to death. He flipped it a bunch of times. He bored it out and jetted it. Thing was crazy fast. He pretty much destroyed it. They was not cheap. Pretty pricey in my area.

My next door neighbors had one...the guy was a mechanical whiz, he bored it out and upped the hp, reworked the intake and exhaust....etc, it was a blast to drive..

It'll definitely start with the ignition cap on the spark plug! Haha, I've done that before. These were ahead of their time when I was a kid in the 80s. Just a smaller version of today's side by side.

Yup, 85 to 86. Some facts for those interested > All FL 350 r's were recalled because of over heating. Cylinder head was changed from straight finned heads to angular finned heads.
You will know this because the serial number ( located on the frame by the muffler) will have an X as the last digit. The engine is actually 330 cc's, just 350 sounded cooler. It puts out anywhere from 30 to 35 hp at 8400 rpm
Overheating also caused the piston to expand too much so the ring ends would catch the exhaust port and bye-bye motor.
GOOD LUCK those brakes and bleeding the. The issue is that the master cylinder is only SLIGHTLY higher than the front drum wheel cylinders(which are the same brakes for my TRX 250 Honda 4 wheeler..2WD)
Use a pressure bleeder that pushes brake fluid up to the master instead of pumping the handles. I bought a bleeder that pumps with one hand right from the brake fluid container...V something or other
Forget the great variety of aftermarket wheels. Douglas makes some aluminum ones, but rears are a weird 4x130mm size. Good luck. Fronts are ok. Was very expensive in 85/86
Check tie rod ends for slop..easy to get, bearings too. I have the same dent on the front bumper, most likely from a tree. Oem parts are getting scarce and pricey...Mant ODDY forums for those interested
Bought mine in 06 in Black River, NJ with an .020 over cylinder, put a 96c Comet clutch, Sigma jet kit, extra cooling air pipes, new starter, starts with a touch of a button.
I have this machine for those interested in Cornwall, Ontario. Nobody commenting is giving info about the bike, let alone how to fixiit based on your vid. also seen in 1 2 9 5 3 z i p

Those things are cool. You should put a sport bike engine in it lol and beef up the rear end obviously. I would beef up front end as well if you put in a 600cc - 1000 cc sport bike engine in it.

    Regarding the OG Odyssey.
Approaching 40 years now with this...there was a facility in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada that rented these just like at a plain old asphalt rental go kart track but it was on a very dry and dusty track without googles! Needless to say it was wicked!

You need to open that pitcock and make sure that rubber inside there isn't disintegrated because every bike I worked on just take some matter years and that rubber is gonzo on most motorcycles it's around rubber with four holes and if it gets messed up it won't work right

I doubt anyone has mentioned this or even noticed it, but @22:00 you put your brake arms on backwards and on the wrong sides. The slot goes towards the driver and to the inside. The screws ALWAYS go through the non threaded hole first, then thread into the arms. How do you think it's going to clamp on the shaft the way you did it? And the master cylinder has cables that connect to it. They "pull". Cables don't "push". A restorer with ANY common sense would've first washed the vehicle and it's parts, addressed the broken and bent frame, painted it, and drained the stagnant fuel from the tank BEFORE they built the vehicle back up. NOW, you have to tear the whole thing apart again to do the needed repairs. One would think you'd know this after all these years of rebuilding bikes, ATV's, snowmobiles, etc, etc, etc.

You are living my dream. When these first came out I wanted one in the worst way. 40 years later it still looks like great fun. It is the genesis of the ATV craze. PS - Maybe you pull the levers on the master cylinder rather than push...it appears that would allow them to work independently...aren't they cable activated?

Killer! As an ATV guy & a Honda guy - These Odysseys are where it's at!
A decade or 2 ago, "Moses Mountain" in Maravia, NY used to have a fleet of them..
They 'rented time' for either horses or buggies. Of course I chose the buggies..
We'd ride em' like we stole em', and paid for it.. haha
[I still have scars on my spine from it rubbing the seats so bad] Still worth every second.
They Should have replaced em' with Honda Pilots, but nope.. They sat, rotted, and finally sold..
Hopefully whoever got them all put em' to use. They're way too much fun to let em' just sit.
Congrats on the find/buy, great job breathing some new life into yours, and Have Fun!
