Here is a tip for the grips. I drop a single nickel into the bottom of the grip so it lays flat. I do this to help prolong the life of the grip. Even as a kid I used to do this on my BMX bikes because I had so many grips get chewed up from the ends of the handle bars and poke through. The nickels help keep this from happening. Another grip tip if you have set of grips that in good condition but don't want to cut them off. I use compressed air and blow gun to float the grips off the bars. Works awesome.
If ever there was a bike that wanted to live, this one is that bike. All it has gone threw and fired up second kick. Crazy story crazy fix and can't wait to watch the rest of this video.
Hey man, keep up the good work. I’m in South Africa watching your videos. Your knowledge is absolutely amazing and I value your input. You show everything and how to do it which is great unlike other guys. You are sharing your experience which I respect. I wish bikes and bike parts weren’t so expensive here so I could do the same. Well done and keep on working so hard . 👌🏻
I for one kinda loved the claw hammer, mostly for how irrationally angry it made people 😜 Also: 1.) weld a bead on the inside of a stuck race to help dislodge and give you something to pry against. 2.) I knew the PO basically retapped the axle adjusters to Home Depot spec….as soon as you started wrenching on it with the impact it was confirmed 😣
You can tell she's a real happy bike, zooming along at the end. Rusty bearings like that are always a sign of poor maintenance. Gotta keep 'em clean and lubed!
Hey Joe - I came across your channel several weeks back and I've been enjoying it thoroughly!!! Interestingly, after watching various clips - beginning with several jobs you did on boats - the algorithms took me back to several early home clips including Jade and Vinny. I haven't seen Jade on your more recent videos. I hope all is well with them! Thanks for the interesting and entertaining material. Good luck and God Bless!!!
Shout-out to the other bike that's just getting ravaged left and right. May you be blessed with new parts or parts that are in better condition than what was removed.
I absolutely cannot believe how easily that thing starts up. Also, I agree with your theory that somebody was riding that on some ice and broke through. It probably sat there for a couple of days, if not weeks, and then they pulled it out and it sat. It's an absolute miracle that it's running, let alone how good it's running. Absolutely blows my mind. 😂😂🐝🐝😂😂
As someone who raced these bikes reigonally for years im glad to see it being restored even tho some of the tools used and mechanical procedures werent as professional as id have hoped but u got there eventually.
You've been in this business for a considerable time and I don't know what it's like in Northern Wisconsin, But I always just assume that the seller is lying about something. Unfortunately that's the World that we live in. Good video Joe.
Lets face it. He acts surprised for the camera when things happen. But we all know that he already knows the seller is just flapping their gums into the wind when they sell him something. It may be entertainment at the end of the day but he gets himself screwed on purpose so others don't.
@@Slane583 . It's also good content, and any money lost on the bike can probably be covered by TH-cam revenue. It also helps others who are maybe not so mechanically-minded, avoid being scammed by these parasites.
@@curmudgeon1933 Indeed. I watched 2Vin in the past and was put off by something bumbling he did on one of his previous builds. So I went and found someone else to watch who did it more professionally. It wasn't until recent months that I decided to give 2Vin's videos another chance. While he does do some goofy things here and there I have been enjoying them more. He's pretty much doing it the way the average home-mechanic would do it with limited resources. I bought a 76 Yamaha IT400 last October from an older guy. Being it's an almost 50 year old bike it has its' problems and is missing stuff which is typical. I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought it so I can't blame the seller for anything. I spoke with the seller for a couple of hours. I was originally going to try to talk him down in price but when he showed me the extra rolling chassis and random other bits he had that were included I was willing to pay his original asking price. But by the time I got done talking to him and money started to change hands he lowered the price on his own because of how far I drove to get the bike. I was also the only person out of several other people who actually offered him a cash payment for it. Everyone else who messaged him were trying to trade him some random garbage for it. So he gave me a better deal on it. After tinkering with it before leaving and seeing that it tried to pop off a couple of times it was a sealed deal for me. Even if the bike was junk the big bore 2-stroke engine was worth a good bit of money to the right person. Especially in running condition. But I got it as a fixer-upper for myself. :)
Wow! A positive, constructive, helpful comment😂. I’m quickly checking news outlets for stories about a cold spell in hell. I’m gonna try this tip on my old Hodaka project, would give this bike a run for its money in the rust champion category. It’s also 20+ years older.
@2vintage mate well done on getting this turd even running, and well done on the hammer. Oh and my bearing trick i use is keep a small selection of old inner and outer races that have one side of the ring/circle cut so it can flex open or close. Its a nice fit on a shaft or stem that uses the same bearing without binding as its no longer interference fit. I use them as dollys for removing and installing other bearings and or seals when necessary
Hey brother I’ve rode bikes the majority of my life and recently just got back into it with my 10 year old son and I’ve started to binge watch your channel and I’ve gained more knowledge about bikes and gained so much more confidence from your video’s I have bought and fixed 2 450s for super cheap! I just recently had a chain adjuster bolt snap on me while working on my friend's 2006 KX250F. It almost brought the entire project to a halt for months. My heart was racing the entire time you were pulling them out! Haha
To remove stuck bearing races, run a bead of weld around the inside of the race. When the weld cools, the contraction will make removal easy!. Tried & tested and unlike the little cutting wheel, leaves no damage.

One on the few TH-cam channels I subscribe to and I’m not into social media. Been in the hospital and had surgery so I’m catching up. It amazes me the lack of proper care, maintenance, and storage of bike people don’t do. Keep flushing her out. Change the crankcase fluid, ride it, and repeat. She’ll be fine. I stuck 250 2-stroke in an off- road water crossing and the case took in water from the vent tube. This method worked. The crank gave a couple of years later and I did a full rebuild at that point. But I believe the method saved it and prolonged the need for the rebuild. I have medical issues, old injuries that have come back to haunt me, and I just can’t ride dirt bikes anymore. …I love ya, Joe, but you ride, not drive, a bike. With as much stuff as you work on, I also tired of watching you pull pipe springs with vice gips. I have a pipe spring puller tool that now never gets used. Send my your mailing address and I’ll send it to you, free of charge..
There is good news you keep people like me watching!! I have been down on out after minor surgery and between your channel, the bearded Mechanic, and Wheels through time you given me inspiration to do things. Thanks
7:01 one thing that works. If you have a welder… run a bead round the race. It contracts when it cools off.. and falls right out. To help with it you can also use “thrust” penetration oil. Made by Castle… it is designed to work with heat. In my experience it also is the only one that’s breaks down corrosion on aluminum. Hope this helps.
OK Joe I get it every one hates getting lied to, but you have to admit it makes for amazing videos, heck if everything you bought just needed a carb clean and a tune up, most of us would not be here! Good job on this one, keep putting out amazing content brother.

The set of actions you use for troubleshooting the motor is impressive. I never realized that the two strokes were so predictable and similar. I really enjoy watching you work on the bikes.
I know the guy that sold you that turd was a liar, Joe but let me propose a different scenario: The original seller (the guy who emailed you), sold the bike to the next guy for quite a bit more than the what the next guy's asking price. The original guy probably lied to the next guy which led that guy to just want to unload it...to YOU! Surprisingly, the original seller decided to come clean about the bike to you. As far as the guy that sold it to you? On one hand you could pity him for getting burned by the guy that sold it to him, yet condemn him for 'sharing the love', so to speak! 🤣Bottom line? You're very adept at polishing turds, Joe. So, you'll probably break even selling this bike, as you have on so many others, but the next guy will get something that runs well! 😎👍
Bottom line is the guy who sold the bike to Joe lied and is a douchebag. If it wasn't for the channel revenue Joe would not be breaking even on this bike.

This may have already been posted but we used to take a welder and put a weld around the race and it will fall out, if not at least you will have something to hit from the side. Works pretty good most of the time
Nice thing about riding that machine in the summer is the bugs can't even find you, much less bite you! Open that garage door, Joe. You'll regret it in your fifties if you don't. You only get one set of lungs, my friend... and you don't want that old guy oxygen bottle on a cart accessory. Another thing that would seriously help you out would be a loading/unloading platform next to the shop and one at the property. Your back would thank you for that.
You read the comments, do ya? Well let me just tell you thanks for the inspiration. I've watched a bunch of your videos and finally got off of my butt and got out in the garage. I got the DRZ that's been sitting out there for the last two years running and took it for first ride tonight. Bought it non-running in 2022 for $500 and then just kind of forgot about it. Classic DRZ crank case full of gas. A petcock, a battery, a carb rebuild, and an oil change later I've got a runner/driver. Lil bog mid-throttle but it goes and stops. First off road bike, btw. SO FUN. Even dropped it in some sand messing around by some construction sites. XD Thanks bud!

No thanks. I’m not adding extra weight to my bike
@@sk8er2420might as well take all your plastics off 😂
That same air will help get them back on as well
i use spraypaint or clear, it works good and drys up and sticks
How about using some grip glue WTF
If ever there was a bike that wanted to live, this one is that bike. All it has gone threw and fired up second kick. Crazy story crazy fix and can't wait to watch the rest of this video.
Hey man, keep up the good work. I’m in South Africa watching your videos. Your knowledge is absolutely amazing and I value your input. You show everything and how to do it which is great unlike other guys. You are sharing your experience which I respect. I wish bikes and bike parts weren’t so expensive here so I could do the same. Well done and keep on working so hard . 👌🏻
True that
I don’t ride motorcycles…BUT MAN I’m such an absolute fan of yours. Such an amazing channel I APPRECIATE all your shared knowledge how. 🙏🙏
I for one kinda loved the claw hammer, mostly for how irrationally angry it made people 😜
Also:
1.) weld a bead on the inside of a stuck race to help dislodge and give you something to pry against.
2.) I knew the PO basically retapped the axle adjusters to Home Depot spec….as soon as you started wrenching on it with the impact it was confirmed 😣
Six-point sockets and wrenches for corroded nuts and bolts 👍👍
Listen to that little voice when it says RUN AWAY!
You can tell she's a real happy bike, zooming along at the end. Rusty bearings like that are always a sign of poor maintenance. Gotta keep 'em clean and lubed!
im so glad youtube recommended you such a good guy and ive learned so much from you
Well at least we get to see more videos. Amazing how he never drops an F bomb through the deal.
Gotta love the sound of a two stroke shredding it on your track. This bike deserves to be resurrected and born again!!!!
Dealing with strangers lies are much more likely to happen. Strangers don't really care sometimes about giving you an honest deal.
You resurrected that one from the deepest depths of hell itself! You truly are a bulldog mechanical genius. Bravo!
A bead of weld around the inside of the race will shrink the race when it cools. the bearing race will usually drop out.
I will try that
Just make sure to set the welder low enough so that you dont burn through the race! We do it all the time in my shop it works great
@@2vintage Did this for a fork head bearing, just in one spot, but no rust so maybe a few good spots instead. Good luck
I would like to thank you good sir thank you very much I love your channel and am a huge supporter! Keep up the good fight and thank you again! Fantastic job!

So....politicians 😂
To remove stuck bearing races, run a bead of weld around the inside of the race. When the weld cools, the contraction will make removal easy!. Tried & tested and unlike the little cutting wheel, leaves no damage.
Love the content and you turn things from someone else's junk to a running machine. Great work!!
That engine is the sound of my youth! Brings back some great memories. Thank you!
SOOO proud that you FINALLY got outta the construction phase and into the mechanic phase with the new ball peen hammer! 😂

Long time ago I had a 73 Kawasaki H1 triple. Love to see you overhaul one of those....great visuals and verbal tutorials...I might buy another one and mimic you through the rebuild.
I just have to say I have learned so much from your videos it's is awsome. I'm a old school feller in my 50s wish I knew this stuff when I was younger I could afford a bike then lol. But your work is inspiring to myself I'm sure the younger guys learn everytime you do a video. You don't give up on bikes that's awsome. Love them 2 strokes one day I may be able to buy one again but my income isn't letting me right now been hard now days. One thing I can say I gonna watch your shows as long as you make them. Love your work brother. Thanks for teaching myself so many things about bikes. Kentucky proud. Make more love watching the show. Take care. Ty

I watch all your vids, you are very very good with all atv and dirt bikes! It amazes me how smart you are! Keep those vids coming!!!
No f***ing way 😆
Just started the vid, but this was a great thing to wake up to Sunday morning :)
people lying about things that they are selling is the worst. that's the way the world is nowadays. nice video.
Agree…terrible, but don’t fool yourself….this is nothing new “nowadays”. People have been dishonest forever…..
Is a problem now, was a problem 100 yrs ago and will be a problem for the rest of time
Man I love your channel I literally watch it every night after I get off work for 3-4 hours it’s very informational man love it bro I actually bought a blaster and rebuilt it after watching the purple blaster video keep doing what you do and blow the haters there always here!
A seller who lies like that better have a damned good dentist & doctor! 😡
Why? Joe being an idiot isn’t the sellers fault
Like you would do anything you behind would be sitting in jail.so quit trying to act like a tuff guys lol.

Great job resurrecting this bike dude. Sometimes the most rewarding projects start off the roughest. I say get her 100% again and ride the hell out of it. Great job!
Dragged from bottom of the ocean
This seller should be ashamed. This bike is a disaster. I can't believe the bike even started. I came across your channel a few days ago. Thanks for the great content man. Good luck with your future projects. I will definitely be following your channel regularly.
You should have got a brass punch with your new hammer instead of beating the hell out of that socket extension. 😅 😂
One step at a time..
Or perhaps wood instead of mushrooming the axle threads
Just orderd some!
And a normal set of screw drivers instead of using the bits
@@2vintage I was just kidding. I have extensions that are dedicated to pounding out seals, bearings, and races. You cannot even use them as extensions. ✌️
You have a lot more patience and perseverance than most of us I reckon dude... I would've probably thrown in the towel and sold it off as a parts bike.
I guess you two were meant to find each other.. as I doubt anyone else would have brought it this far

If it wasn't for the channel revenue Joe would not be breaking even on this bike.
and joe will get more views on youtube,,,thats more money with joe.....sure winner and fame.
One to 3 cents per view, plus time and parts, he might break even but at maybe minimum wages.
@@johns.4708Based off view stats he makes $1k+ off each video. Depending on views. Averaging 2-5k a week, I’d say he’s gonna more than break even considering he’s already made 2 videos on this bike. He’ll end up profiting 4k+ off it lol
