      Too many people don't understand the difference in engine engineering. The Hellcat is fully forged. Forged crank, rods and pistons, the Apache 6.4 using regular pistons, so throwing boost at weak pistons is just waiting for a broken block. Seen too many examples of people not doing research.

    Another Fantastic video!
    I also think the Supercharged Scat is the more fun route to go on top of the cost effectiveness. I picked up my 2016 Challenger Scat Pack with 7,000 miles for $32,000
    Total cost for supercharger and if I forged the internals would still have me well below the lowest priced comparable hellcat by several thousand dollars. So much so that if I chose to beef up the HP-70 trans as well I would still be in at right around $50,000. So I am very heavily leaning towards going that route. 1,000HP reliable daily for $50k? 100% yes. I am so grateful for all the content you provide on your channel. Thanks a million. Can't wait to see if you mod your wife's T/A 👍👌

    I have a '13 392 and even if I put a procharger on it, the engine can at best handle 9lbs of boost. This is at the top end, because centrifigal blowers build throughout the range. Anything greater needs forged internals and that is too expensive. Besides, the upgraded transmission needed and it makes more sense to get the Hellcat. That roots blowers sounds sick and you have a warranty. Hellcat for the win.

    I have a manual scat pack challenger I enjoy the NA because of the theoretical low maintenance. I know that the 392 can not handle a lot of boost without risking damage being done to the engine. I’ll do bolt on mods and keep up with routine maintenance to get the most out of the engine that I can. Once the engine starts to go in the future then I can change the push rods rock arms pistons and cam and then finally look into adding in forced induction. I like the ride and playing around with it but if I really wanted to go as fast as possible I would’ve got an auto. I just want to get the absolute most out of the car because I know once I’m old that these cars will be all but extinct.

      I had a police package Charger with 101k miles but a buttload of idling hours. So yeah, here it goes. What I've done to the engine is heads cleanup and new replacement piston rings, gapped the top ones really loose. Bores good, all pistons were good. Nearly a year to get these in and done. 2nd hand GT-35, Isuzu truck's intercooler, bigger injectors and a piggy back ecu. Consistent hi 11s. Not even the trans fluid was changed.

    This is a "depends" question. If you have the money and don't want to mess with it yourself the Hellcat is the better idea. I guess think of it like this.. Ask any Amish guy if he would rather buy nice furniture or make it himself. If you ask me I'm buying the furniture.

    An acquaintance of mine built his "police" 375hp 5.7 hemi for turbo duty. He indeed had to change piston and rod s for a forged set. The cam he used was a .228 dur at fifty that was a bit expensive seeing that he must re-use stock valve springs. So yes the heads are stock except for port cleanup. He expects 600 rwhp once he gets a bigger tb.

  • @Diehard65
    @Diehard65 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Without looking at other comments, I have to say as you must know, you're overlooking a lot of stuff. Just to name a few...3 position electronically controlled shocks, 6 piston Brembos front brakes, full 5 year drive train warranty, quality of engine and transmission, lighter forged stock 9.5" wheels and more. You end up stressing the difference in cost but you left out many of the items that are not included in the scat pack.
    I run an SRT 392 stock with DR's and I'm at 12.00. I don't think 11.6 is impressive for the low 600's HP. You must know guys are running mid 11's with the 392 without a supercharger. Not the majority, of course but many are with minor mods. So to each their own. Good luck with your pistons holding up.

    The only other point I am trying to make is that 55-60k used price range is coming down. I look at every single video you post. Trust I was hesitant about wanting to buy used hellcat too but after all the problems you had with your charger and then you void the warranty with mods. I would rather take that same 55k total you're spending on your car to get a used one. It is almost like I cant lose because the warranty is still there. That is just me tho. To each his or her own

    • @DadMods
      @DadMods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree... If you don't plan on modding it even used isn't a big deal since you have the warranty. So there is no single answer it just depends on your variables. One option isn't always better than the other. With that being said I love my adaptive radar cruise control.

      Hard deal, as all SRT products carry only 3 years of warranty including power train. Scats and Cats are appx $25-$30k apart here in Canada regardless of year. Our scat has everything the cat has minus 200hp. With warranty up in a year anyways - I'd be tempted to throw a Procharger and slicks at the scat for half the price of buying a cat. The real deal is - banks will finance a cat at low interest over many years.. where a Procharger requires cash / credit card ;)

      I think the opposite is true on used Hellcats.
      Most people who spend $60k plus on one vehicle are NOT going to dog it into the ground with no mercy.
      To the contrary they are most likely going to keep it garaged when not driving it. Only type of person who would trash it would be a teenager owner which there are very few that can afford a Hellcat.
      Also most that are for sale is probably from people who couldn’t keep up the payments. Also a lot of people sold their Hellcats to try and have money to buy a Demon. Now their going to sell them to get a Redeye.
      A used Hellcat is the WAY TO GO. Let the original owner take the big depreciation hit and you come in and finance it for 45K with low miles.

You already have another car you can use as a daily, & to haul the family around so you really don’t need your Performance car to be a Sedan! • @mistamaog
      @mistamaog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When it comes to holding value, I say who cares, it's your car you make it your own, don't worry about "the next owner" which at that point you shouldn't be modding it or getting these types of cars

    • @hydrashock2651
      @hydrashock2651 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iMiguelAOG im not talking about "holding" so much as a 45k scat pack with 15k in mods is not going to sell for 60k. It likely would be worth less than 45k. When u spend 65k on the hellcat its going to be worth its full value. So why spend 60k to have a car u can only sell for 40k, when u can buy the hellcat for 60k and sell it for 60k...
      Bottom line...if u want the fastest car....buy the fastest car. Modding is the worst possible investment and typically causes more heartache than anything..

    Better value? Well how many engines do you want to replace LOL? The 392 is great stock and with a few basic improvements but, you can't beat physics. The 392 engine isn't designed to handle boost whereas the Hellcat is fully built with forged pistons. Also the Hellcat has the rest of the drivetrain (transmission and diff.) ready for 700hp, the internals on the same 8 Speed are weaker on the 392 cars.

      Hqen2000 Sure you can. But if your argument is regarding power/dollar reliably, a built Scat Pack will come out far more expensive than a Hellcat. Plus you have no warranty, down time for finding parts, tearing down your car and installing everything LOL.

      Forged internals is about $3-4k, plus headgaskets, labor, new pushrods, lifters, unlocked pcm, tuner, tuning, supercharger LOL. You're well over $14k. And that's just for power. You haven't addressed the brakes, fuel system, driveshaft, axles etc LOL.

    Insurance on a SP vs HC is a HUGE difference. I'm 37 and have a clean record and the 6 month premium was almost $1000 for the hellcat vs the $410 for the SP :O
    Main thing I wish the SP had is the adjustable suspension. it's not the most comfortable ride on the interstate IMO.

    The value of the HELLCATS are going to depreciate the value just like the SRT8 and the Scatpack. The HELLCAT is a great car to rebuild from salvage title to rebuilt title. A salvage titled HELLCAT is around $20-30k from the auction and you don't get a warranty.

    Ive watched a couple of your videos. I do like some of the comparisons. You can most likely get a used hell cat for what you have in yours but its gonna be a 2015 hellcat. With a car like that you know it was run hard and put away wet. I like that you were able to buy yours new. Your warranty isnt completely out the window. If your a/c breaks they have to fix it . Your talking straight powerterrain. If you switch over to e85 you should be able to run a little more timing and maybe a few more pounds of boost. Most likely getting you 100 more rwhp. Then you would smash on a hell cat. Im just not completely sure the trans and rear would like that? Im more of a mustang guy and know what they can take safely. Props to you because my next car will be a charger. For me it will be whicht one i can get for the best price. I dont wanna pay over 40k for a car that i have to finance. (Payments to high)

    • @DadMods
      @DadMods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I don’t want to give the internals and trans more than 650whp. So 630whp was a safe margin without crazy boost or timing. Scares me to go up higher unless I specifically plan on building the motor which at this point i don’t.

      Hqen2000 just depends on finances for me. I would mod the Hellcat lightly with CAI and tune but unless I had a ton of money and a daily I wouldn’t mess with the heavy stuff.

  • @PAULY-P
    @PAULY-P 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Answer is no. A used Hellcat now is going for $40k-$48k with only 7k-15k miles, but im sure they've been beat to death in those short miles. The value of Hellcats are going down due to so many being produced but will still be worth more than a modified Scatpack. Plus the bottem end is built already in the Hellcat. Dodge has a way of coming out with something new so you dream of owning one. For example: Demon. Or better yet, for the amount of $ you put in, you could have got a used Lotus Evora 400 or 410. Youll hang with Lambos with no work done except better sounding free flowing mufflers and window tint 😎

    Value is what it's worth when you sell it. Your modded car will sell or no more than normal Scat Pack prices. Hellcat will retain value for being a Hellcat. And your car not having forged internals makes it a ticking time bomb and that's just the truth. A guy that lives 3 Doors Down for me just bought a Hellcat charger with 31000 miles for $43k.. your scat would never sell for that..

    • @DadMods
      @DadMods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree. And if you
      Think your friend is safe with his 31000 mile hellcat then you are wrong. It’s probably getting close to being out of warranty. The value when you sell it only matters if you sell it. I have no plans of selling it, furthermore if you are concerned about resale then any dodge shouldn’t be on your radar because the resale sucks. Your method of calculating value is great for a specific instance but to each their own.

      ShitFromShinola
      Wow 43 thousand for a used Hellcat. Your neighbor found a unicorn, or it was a fire sale (it had to go). Trust and believe, that is not typical. Not to mention that it's almost out of warranty.
      I do agree with the time bomb part. 6.4s don't like a lot of boost. I personally would try to keep it at 7 pounds or less. But if the owner plans on keeping the car, then he can enjoy the car. He can also save up for forged internals. If/when the motor goes boom, now he's possibly prepared for it, can make/pay for the repair. And still come out cheaper than purchasing a new Hellcat. On the plus side it's easier to make things better in stages than to pay 72 thousand plus all in one shot.

    • @DadMods
      @DadMods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree on the 43k Hellcat. But everyone knows of one that was sold, nobody can post a link or any evidence. It's typically a manual Challenger because that's the least sought after hellcat, the Charger hellcat is the most. So just saying "hellcat" doesn't really tell the whole story.
      I also have more options since I started with a lower cost, if I started with a hellcat I wouldn't have even wanted to mod it since it's so expensive and it's main benefit is the warranty.

    • @Clutch_Kick187
      @Clutch_Kick187 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a 15 manual challenger in purple... yuk.... and did have a few issues.. tires need replaced immediately.. the clutch doen't really feel all that great and the stock rims are gone, and its got some sort of lowering done.. so its not stock.. it has muffler deletes and a cai.. he traded in an 11 5.0 mustang so the numbers could be worked over a bit..

    2016 Hellcat for $47,000 with 9,100mi. With specialty vehicles dealers will hold on to them for a while. You can get a new vehicle ( never sold) with little to no mileage for a lower price.I have seen some early 2000's Dodge Vipers with around 1,000 miles for around $50,000. 2015 Audi RS 5 AWD with 14,000 miles for $45,000 which is normally an $80,000 vehicle.

    Kudos for trying. Lots of wasted money, trying to compare to a HELLCAT If your building your Scatpack for personal satisfaction than fine don’t miss lead others for false hope. HELLCAT is built from the ground up. It’s made to handle all that power. From the Engine to the trans to the rear end. Also the on board computer I can say these things because I owned SCAT PACK. Ask me. I will give you the correct answers. I now have two HELL CATS in my garage.
