You pull the oil release bolt out of the bottom of the oil pan when it is running. The running engine will hold the oil inside and you just shine a flashlight inside to check it. Simple. 😉😂
Good to know. I've been seeing some of that once in a while if I park on an incline. I had the dealer check it out; they did a software update but it has still been smoking once in a while on startup. Will install that catch can that I got for Christmas ;)

Found this on the challenger forum replied by an SRT Engineer. A decent explanation. I've had this once or twice on my 2016 Scat 392 not a daily driver. I've done 3 cold starts a month apart since I stored it for the winter with no issues. Here it is: New engines take some time for the piston rings (sometimes seals as well) to break in. As ring tensions have reduced and bore finishes have improved (read smoother) the rings will take longer to seal to the mating surface. In some rare cases, if an engine is run very hard right out of the chute you will get some glazing between the bores and rings which will cause an even longer (or potentially never) break in period. Normal conditions will break in and seal up well within several thousand miles. Make a few hard runs with the car after break in will ususally accelerate the sealing. Some light smoke from the exhaust on start ups (usually cold or warm after sitting for a time) is not an issue. If the smoke is heavy or continuous during driving there may be a mechanical problem, take into the dealer.
Most Challenger owners also own a Prius. I used to clown the Prius, until I saw that $20 of gas gets 300+ miles easy. Ordinary cars beg for 100 miles on $20 of gas. There are at least 5 Priuses on my street alone. Several more on the next block. Not sure why all this hate towards it still exists.
The oil smoke comes from built up oil in the head. I used to own a brand new 2014 Challenger SRT8 6 sp. manual. I'm very keen on how the engine runs. At first my car was running hot, sluggish, and sucked gas until I got on the highway. So, I found out about the "Oil Catch Can" that's made for Mopars to "catch" the extra oil before it ends up in the head. It costs $66 and is very easy to install by hand. I had to dump it about every 5,000 miles or every oil change. I also installed a K&N cold air intake at the same time. Man, it made the biggest difference!! The engine ran sharp, cool, and clean after that, no matter how little I drove it. And no more oil smoke! 👍
The smoke generated at startup was more than likely caused by you racing the engine at shut down. The oil pressure pushes the oil up into the heads and drains down onto the cylinders. When you turned it off, this leaves the valves open for oil to drain down onto the cylinders. Hope this explains your scare.
That makes no sense. The only way for the oil to drain through the valves into the cylinder is through bad valve seals or through the intake manifold. The heads drain oil back into the block.
Hahahahahaha when you said “Third time filling up this week” that had me dying because i could relate !!! I have a Scat Pack Charger 2019 recently leased it. I love it man, couldnt be happier. I also love it when people ask “How many miles to the gallon you get” i always reply with “Smiles per Gallon NOT Miles per Gallon”. I dont take credit for coming up with that line, but truer words couldnt be said.
Most likely from not having an oil catch can. The oil build up in the intake manifold can do that. If you get an oil catch can and the problem still persists after a month or so, then you have a bigger problem. Bad valve guides/seals.
@@joshnalex21 unless its built to compete. In my honest opinion there is no point in owning something with more than average power and handling if that person's not willing to put it to the test. Average driving calls for an average means of transportation.
I drive my 2017 charger scat like I stole it daily. I’ve got 60,000 miles on it since I bought it new with zero complaints. Nothing but tires and brake pads. When you’re buying a car to “mod” looking at hp/$, don’t start with a car that makes around 500hp! Because making north of 500hp and making it reliable isn’t cheap. If it were, you’d see 500+hp cars at every stop light😏
Well said, brother! I have a 17 392 Daytona with only 23k and I've NEVER had any mechanical problems. Only issue is with the interior, the sun baked the glue and the door panel, by the window, is popped up. I have since tinted the windows and keep the cover on. Damn socal sun.
Also you can add a set of headers ,bigger throttle body ,Hellcat air box ,after market exhaust system and a tune and you will definitely feel the difference
Never seen that ever on my 2018 charger scat pack. My break him process was easy till 1500 miles then I started driving it a little harder nothing past 4000 rpms. When I hit 3000 miles then I’d floored it several times. Piston rings sealed perfectly and no oil loss or smoke.
Go down a long hill using engine braking no throttle. At bottom on throttle and cheeck in mirror for smoke. If cloud of smoke 1. Valve guide seals worn dripping oil down or seal displaced on guide. Remove rrocker covets and check. You can change them without rremoving head. 2. Rings or a piston with oil control loss.
You really feel every single horsepower when accelerating in the 392 because the 8 speed transmission is so great. I was surprised of how much power it has after trying it out and riding in it. Definitely a car with its own segment and a car in its own class. Its one of a kind!
"coolant is good" glances at coolant expansion tank, "oil I have to check when the car is off, hmm" dude just get a Tesla or Prius you don't know much about cars.
I used to have an R/T 5.7 6 speed, around town I got about 19 mpg 24 on the highway. Now I have a Mazda, last checked my MPG was in the mid 30's and I now run the cheap gas.
That smoke at startup was just a little 'oil blowby' and is normal with large block hemis. The best cure is to get an oil catch can so instead of the oil going back through the intake via the breather, the catch can puts the oil back into the engine rather than the intake. You will notice that without a catch can you will loose a few 10's of a quart over time because it gets burned off through ignition. Just make sure to top her off every six months or so...
"I don't know how to answer that question..."😂 392 is a beautiful, versatile engine perfect for enthusiasts...not for people that think working on a car is a drag...
That is the main reason why I got the 345. That and the block is tried-and-true in pickup trucks so it is strong, but it was mainly for a good base to build off of. Although the 392 block is what they're using to make the 426 stroker crate engine, I'm just saying. Although that crate engine is $20,000
@@markurbancowboy thats pretty pathetic if you ask me. but it's no wonder tuners or btr or comp cams hate building shit for dodge. sucks because the 392 is almost a 10k engine while a LS family block can be bought for as low as 1500 to top of a line 454 LSX for 5-7k with over 500hp and tons of mods left open. and its tuner friendly ! challengers and chargers are badass looking but they're shit for modding them. 1000 for a pcm and lame close to stock tune? no thanks

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but did you conduct the break in process as directed by the manufacturer? If not then the proper seating of the rings might be the cause of the blow by. Not a mechanic, just saw a few videos about the breaking in of a new dodge challenger. Nice ride and hope you enjoy it for many years to come brother.
4:48 water condensate. When you turn off your car in cooler or humid weather, the hot exhaust condenses water. And when you start the car some time later that water evaporates causing the smoke.
The easiest and most reliable way to get more power is with a tune. But there isn’t to much calibration tunes for the 392 where as the mustang has a lot of options which makes it so much easier for a mustang to get more power
Well, my Scat Pack Challenger is stock but has a tune by Accelerated Racing Solutions. Stock on drag radials I went 12.40 at California Dragway, with the tune by ARS It has now gone 11.40 @121 at Famoso Dragway. The tunes work great. I did lose 150 lbs in the process.
About the smoke coming out of your exhaust. I had a similar issue with my Challenger RT. Turns out the valve seals were installed incorrectly at the factory in 2 of the cylinders. It took me taking it to the dealer several times for them to figure that out. Hope this helps you out dude.
I'm a Chrysler engineer. This is most certainly an early sign of Turbo Encabulator failure. This is very common on newer FCA products. There is a field service bulletin regarding this. Just call your Dodge dealer and ask to have it replaced or retuned if needed.
I would have to agree. The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two main spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-o-deltoid type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots in the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a nonreversible tremmie pipe to the differential girdlespring on the "up" end of the grammeters.
Best thing you can do for the motor, is install a hellcat oil pump. That will increase the oil pressure by 25% or so and get the oil up to the lifters better during low RPM. This will help in preventing the hemi tick.
That's most coolest thing about the car community, good people brother, that smoke could be from the valves, or you might want to pull each spark plugs and out and exam them, could find out alot from your plugs brother, cool
Its not really that the pistons are weak, they aren't. The problem with throwing boost at the 392 is that the upper ringlands are high up on the pistons and the rings are gapped tight, its by design for efficiency and emissions. So when you throw to much boost at it the excess heat generated causes the rings to expand more then the specs allow, they bind up building pressure in the ring eventually cracking or popping a piece of the top of the piston. This issue is resolved on the stock pistons if you open up the gap on the rings, however. If your tore down to the point of regapping rings you may as well put in the drop in mmx rod and piston combo.
I’m a huge fan of keeping cars stock. I’m also a guy who keeps cars for long timespans and wants reliability. Companies invest millions and millions of dollars making performance cars that will be fast and reliable/durable. I’m not messing with it and you won’t be able to use much more than 485 in the street anyways.
Questions for the people that own, and/or have owned a 392: I’m looking to get a charger scat pack 392. I live in NE Ohio. I don’t want to go stupid crazy but improve performance overall and, say, “stage 1”. So, how about the following mods- (anyone that’s done any of them, your input is highly appreciated) 1. Shorty ceramic headers. High flow cats. Should I do a resonator delete? This is mainly for heat reasons. 2. Aluminum or carbon fiber one piece driveshaft. Do any suspension mods need to be done to fit one? Or is it just drop the old one out and put the new one in? Also, a differential brace. 3. Ported intake manifold, bigger throttle body, throttle body spacer and cold air intake. Not much in the way of questions here, as these are all pretty common and universal upgrades. Just is there anything I need to know that is different on a 392? 3. 192 thermostat swap in (180 is a bit too low for NE Ohio, I need heat in the winter lol), and the stock t-stay is too high for my tastes. What about an aluminum radiator? Will it make an actual difference in cooling the engine? 4. Underdrive pulleys. I’ve seen several brands, any better than the rest? I’ve ran underdrives on my mustang and an older camaro. Is the stock alternator and water pump on a 392 able to cope with underdrives? 5. Minimum of 285’s in the rear. I’d likely stick with the stock rims, put 285/30’s on the back and call it a day. But. What are some really good, or the “best” tires for wet AND dry? I’ve heard a lot of good about the continental’s but I haven’t heard much how they perform in the rain. We can get a lot of rain here and I really only want to have to run two sets of main tires and rims. My 3 season set up would be the 245’s front, 285’s rear and my winter set up would be whichever wheels are adequate for brake and suspension clearance with a set of Blizzaks for the winter. (Ran them on my mustang, it gripped better than some 4wd’s with all season tires on them, absolutely excellent winter tire.) 6. Lastly, a Tazer to unlock the SRT stuff, and (of course) a tuner with a dyno tune. (There’s a good shop about 20 minutes or so from me in western PA.) Any tuners’ better than the others? Any drawbacks? That covers it all, I get this is a really long post, but any input (that’s actual knowledge and not a bunch of guessing, rumors or “dodge sucks!”) is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Oil from the PCV return line in the intake pools on the intake valves. Not really an issue, but a catch can will solve it. I put a catch can on my scat at 500 miles. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My 16’ scat pack shaker is currently at the dealer getting the motor broken down to replace lifters... cylinder 1 had a misfire. Spark plugs had no gap whatsoever when I pulled the coil packs to check them. Car needs rockers, and a new camshaft as well. 16k miles A8 trans. Mine would also smoke only on cold starts SOMETIMES. It’s weird. Having them check my valve seals as well... & YES I do have a CATCH CAN since around 800 miles on the odometer... & I’m a very spirited driver when I do take my 392 out. I drive the daily if I’m not interested in going fast lol.
Absolutely, My father inlaws new Mustang GT did that intermittently before we installed a Oil Catch can. My Cousins 2017 Camaro did the same as well. They all need an oil catch can.
After a car has sat over night and has some bad valve guides oil can slip by the worn valve guide and end up in the cylinder. When you make that first morning start up if you have some bad valve guides the tailpipes will smoke. I noticed it was your left bank that smoked. I wouldn't worry about it unless it remains.
Burning oil on startup after sitting overnight could be valve seats leaking, It looked like coolant smoke which could be a head gasket leak. Check Radiator fluid for oil.
“I think, I feel, but have no specific reasons as to why not to buy a SCAT pack?” Huh, I am a SCAT pack owner and knew nothing prior, but this is it in a nutshell. You can add a ton more power. The factory 392CID is a bored and stroked 5.7 block. You are correct there is a lot you can’t do but only because it’s already got high flo heads, shorty headers, and cylinder capacity increased with shorter stroke piston rods and lower profile pistons. If you buy the stage 3 kit for the 5.7L you will get the top end of a 6.4L 392. That block can be bored additionally safely, long tube headers added, cold air intake, PCM swap, exhaust diameter increased, and boost. Right off the rip if you spend $250 for Z Automotive’s Fazer you will get additional drive modes including “Track Mode” which instantly changes the shift points and timing for better performance. He’ll just throwing away your Hockey pucks and putting some real racing rubber on it a little wider than stock would make a huge difference. What I can’t understand is why you are dumping 91 octane gas into a stock SCAT Pack. Higher octane fuel is used to prevent detonation at the advanced timing settings required for running a radical camshaft. A stock SCAT doesn’t even benefit from high octane fuel. You could pump jet fuel into your tank in that car and it won’t make it faster. If you want can swap that entire engine with a Arrington Motosport’s 410CID longblock or complete engine.
WTF kind of useless babble is this? This guy doesn't no a piston from a Snickers Bar. I've owned 3 Scat Paks and now a Challenger Hellcat. Many mods are available to unleash more power. Be careful of voiding your warranty. As for smoke on cold start. I have never experienced this. BUT, a catch can will likely eliminate it.
with 13000 miles. its under warranty. take it to dealer for inspection, if only blow puff of smoke after sitting over night, you could have a bad value guide or valve guide seal the oil drops pass the seals after sitting overnight and collect behind the intake valve, it burns off at start. usually happens to older engines with 150,000 miles with dried up valve guide seals
Yep, it happens to my T/A sometimes too, and it happened to my SRT8 Challenger. Tends to happen more if I park the car on an incline. Most notably it can mean the oil is slightly overfilled and the previous engine run time was very short. It is just blow by getting cleaned out of the intake
supercharging not a good idea with the 6.4 because of aluminum. ECU is a non issue because you can get a tuned ECU. You can get some decent HP gains by changing the cam, redoing the exhaust from long tube headers to high flow cats and mid muffler delete. Can even change your injectors and throttle body swap and CAI and change your left headlight to a hellcat hollowed out headlight and make sure your hood scoop is functional. You may have to cut some of the hood liner but that's no biggy. Then get her retuned. You can probably increase WHP to around 430-440 which is a hell of a lot more than stock...
The first 5:30 was a complete waste. Agree that you shouldn't bother adding forced induction. Just do simple bolt ons like a Hellcat airbox, larger throttle body, long tube headers, catch can, 93 octane tune, and enjoy it for what it is.
Blue smoke like that on start up isn't generally a good sign. If it was really cold then there would be white smoke. The blue is a sign of oil being burnt in the cylinder or somehow escaping into the exhaust system and burning there. Why wouldn't you check your oil before start up? Low oil levels cause excessive heat, causes oil to lose its viscosity faster and provide less protection to critical engine components.
Gregg Savery you still have some issues with the 6.1, like the lifters seizing, the known timing chain issues, water intrusion through the dipstick tube. The block is very good though, seen a lot of bigger displacement engines being made from 6.1s.
This is a scary thought. I always drive In sport mode unless I’m doing any long highway driving which I hardly ever do not being a daily driver. As a high performance engine they should of just left MDS out of the 6.4L. IMO.
Jordan Fetfatzes I agree with you! That’s why I said the SRT’s and 6.4L scats should not have the MDS. I’m hoping I have no issues down the road. I’d like to know how many have had issues with the MDS?
@@cgkuch4184 its basically the lifters not getting enpigh oil when they are not in use for the other 4 cylinders Overtime they become bad. A quick and good fix is the hellcat lifters
Jordan Fetfatzes I’ll keep that in mind. Again I always drive my car in sport. The MDS makes the exhaust sound Ike sh1t too. My car doesn’t have that infamous hemi tick either. My old 04 Ram did. Turned it was the exhaust manifold bolts breaking. I only put about 4000 miles / 7000 km a year on it. Time will tell I guess. 16,000k/10000miles on it now. What I’m keeping an eye on is the water pump. They are all shit across the whole vehicle platform.

That smoke comes from several cold starts, and Not letting engine warm up after cold starts. Raw fuel washed oil off of cylinder walls and is then burned on next start up.
My 392 did the smoke thing then i installed a cheap catch can. It hasn't happened again and you would be surprised how much oil is there after a couple launches
That startup is normal If you cold start, move the car a few feet and shut it off. The next startup will do that. My VVT Mustang 4.6 has always done that. I have 157,000 trouble free miles on it. Nice Car!
Catch can bro, that's the key. True CAI, headers, high flow cats, and a tune will do a lot to wake up that 392 even more, it's all bolt on but you'll void your warranty because it requires an unlocked PCM. If you really want to spend some money, a new cam and ported heads are the next step. No need for a supercharger when you can easily make 600 at the crank with bolt ons, a cam, and heads
Alex Andrews no need for supercharged when u can easily make 600 crank no no is better to be honest n say 392 don’t like boost at all there’s a reason all the 392 vids are muffler delete oil catch can a bunch of burnouts that’s it is all the same unless coyote&ls or LTS engines 💯
Alex Andrews well he’s in Cali, if we get busted with a non CARB legal CAI, that’s a ticket straight to the ref. Pain in the ass if you ask me. I know a lot of guys duck the cops and all that, but you don’t know if a violation like that could affect his record and then affect his career.
If your car has too much oil, or if you park it on a angle the oil does not drain fully to pan, the pooled oil will seep past the valve seal and cause that smoke.

Olso you can use the red key and mod the horsepower
Not when it weighs that damn much. 500hp in a 4000lbs car keeps civic owners talking shit all day
That is a totally another different book
Because if you're not comparing apples to apples you can always buy a very fast bike and leave any car behind
I put 13k on my gt in 6 months lol I dont need 500+hp 460 temps me to get in trouble plenty

Well yea that's why he bought an SRT instead of a scatpack
Yeah that's why he asked people in th comments to make suggestions
Never seen that ever on my 2018 charger scat pack. My break him process was easy till 1500 miles then I started driving it a little harder nothing past 4000 rpms. When I hit 3000 miles then I’d floored it several times. Piston rings sealed perfectly and no oil loss or smoke.
i drove the shit out of mine off the lot still runs the same at over 2k mileage
Oil catch can would eliminate 90% of that smoke at start up.nothing to worry about.seen brand new ones do it.
Burning oil is not really a no factor. It's never good.
My 2014 SRT-8 grenaded at 48k miles. Valve smacked the piston. Covered by warranty. Trade-in for Hellcat 👍🏻
Damn did you drive it hard all the time?
Oh don't tell me that, mine has 53k miles

Go down a long hill using engine braking no throttle. At bottom on throttle and cheeck in mirror for smoke. If cloud of smoke
1. Valve guide seals worn dripping oil down or seal displaced on guide.
Remove rrocker covets and check. You can change them without rremoving head.
2. Rings or a piston with oil control loss.

My ride smokes onstartup. Wait it's a 7.3l diesel... if it doesnt smoke some things wrong.
You really feel every single horsepower when accelerating in the 392 because the 8 speed transmission is so great. I was surprised of how much power it has after trying it out and riding in it. Definitely a car with its own segment and a car in its own class. Its one of a kind!
Yea the 392 is perfect for street use and just awesome due to low gearing so real low end torque kicking in!
Considering eighth gear doesn’t engage until 80 something MPH 9 out of 10 people will never need it.
My boy hit 180 in that motherfucker and that shit is so beautiful I can only imagine what a demon feels like.
What a lot of people don't know is racing really puts a strain on any car and ultimately this is what you get

I used to have an R/T 5.7 6 speed, around town I got about 19 mpg 24 on the highway. Now I have a Mazda, last checked my MPG was in the mid 30's and I now run the cheap gas.
So ya sold the challenger for a mazda ?
AKA: I sold my Challenger because my wife said so.
Do us all a favor and sell it so someone with balls can enjoy this beautiful engine.
I agree, one must have fantastic tit's, or a pair of man's testcles to own this car. Please sell your ride to a grown up.
Just some built up oil sitting on an intake valve or two. MOPAR messiah B Mason says this is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
Andrew damn you, I will never get that image out of my head now
Andrew V that’s even more of a reason to trust B Mason, he knows Mopar
But it can build up over time and cause detonation and power loss

"I don't know how to answer that question..."😂 392 is a beautiful, versatile engine perfect for enthusiasts...not for people that think working on a car is a drag...
Dude all you need to do is put a oil catch can on the motor, the first mod that should be done
Dude seriously, What was the point .
You really have no idea .
That is the main reason why I got the 345. That and the block is tried-and-true in pickup trucks so it is strong, but it was mainly for a good base to build off of. Although the 392 block is what they're using to make the 426 stroker crate engine, I'm just saying. Although that crate engine is $20,000
Get a Catch Can she won't do that on start up.
I do agree with you. The 392 is better left alone. Minor bolt ons but No superchargers.
I agree with you there. Chrysler didn't build the engine to handle boost. I had two 392's and they were a blast to drive completely stock!
Or just buy a forged block like I'm doing. A quality built forged block can handle up to 1200HP.
I agree...straight natural aspirated engine..maybe with a catch can..simple

@@markurbancowboy thats pretty pathetic if you ask me. but it's no wonder tuners or btr or comp cams hate building shit for dodge. sucks because the 392 is almost a 10k engine while a LS family block can be bought for as low as 1500 to top of a line 454 LSX for 5-7k with over 500hp and tons of mods left open. and its tuner friendly ! challengers and chargers are badass looking but they're shit for modding them. 1000 for a pcm and lame close to stock tune? no thanks
5.7 is gr8 on power and if you want to modd theres lots you can do and still have a strong engine with no issues
Nah
you cant do shit with a 5.7. only 2 cam options and procharger that's it.
I’ve heard the 5.7 stock internals don’t like boost very much, and they still only make 385 crank power. I could get a V6 Camaro with FBO and a 93 pump tune and make close to 330 and have a 500 pound weight difference.

@Michael Gribbins i agree 👌
I currently own a 14 charger 392. And honestly i bought it bc its a family/muscle car. Yes i knew it'll never be as fast as most pound for pound bc of the weight and its inability to be boosted safely (not saying it can't be, just 6.4 arent as good as the 6.2 boosted). Anyways i put down 498hp and 471tq to the wheels with minor bolt ons and cam upgrade. Its being built now with forged internals and E85 then 175 shot spray. The amount of money i spent i could have had a LS swapped 900hp plus car, but i love my car and im comited now in it. Bottom line, it all depends on your preferences and budget. My car puts down now 543hp 497tq NA with E85 and 683/671 on 175 shot. Mods are:
Oil catch can
JBA LT w/cat delete
JLT CAI
Apache max cam (No2 grind)
Red eye lifters
Demon injectors
Forged pushrods
Mahle pistons and rods
ARP rod bolts/head studs
465 warblo fuel pump
Ported TB & Intake manifold
Nitrious outlet 175 wet ket
Paramount 3200 stall
Custom Hp dyno tune
BC coilovers
Do i regret the amount of money i spent on it knowing i could have something faster or better? No, i love my car bc i put my time and money in it. It's like raising a kid. #builtnotbought

The Sloan how did you lose 150 pounds in the process?

About the smoke coming out of your exhaust. I had a similar issue with my Challenger RT. Turns out the valve seals were installed incorrectly at the factory in 2 of the cylinders. It took me taking it to the dealer several times for them to figure that out. Hope this helps you out dude.
Michael Saczawa yes it’s valve steam seals either bad or installed incorrectly
Valve seals install incorrectly? Dodge is a joke..
I'm a Chrysler engineer. This is most certainly an early sign of Turbo Encabulator failure. This is very common on newer FCA products. There is a field service bulletin regarding this. Just call your Dodge dealer and ask to have it replaced or retuned if needed.
Danny brink do you have a email? I have a ram 1500 2012 2wd with a 5.7 hemi I have a couple of questions.
So your advice for upgrading a 392 is to buy a hellcat? No $hit
Lol
@@Clyo754 This had me cracking up too lol
You can't check the oil with the engine running and by tapping on the dip stick. If you have any concerns, always check it manually.
The number one thing you should have bought when you bought that car was a catch can
That's most coolest thing about the car community, good people brother, that smoke could be from the valves, or you might want to pull each spark plugs and out and exam them, could find out alot from your plugs brother, cool
You really have no idea what you are talking about!!!
YOU SIR.....know very little about cars.
Absolutely, thanks for watching 👍🏻

New 392s including the RAM pickups also do that on cold start up. It is coming from the valve stem seals, it is normal.
It may be normal for one that is about wore out. I buy new vehicle and it does that its going back.
This IS NOT normal. You should not be burning oil on startup
Spaghetti in the catalytic converters
Questions for the people that own, and/or have owned a 392:
I’m looking to get a charger scat pack 392. I live in NE Ohio. I don’t want to go stupid crazy but improve performance overall and, say, “stage 1”. So, how about the following mods- (anyone that’s done any of them, your input is highly appreciated)
(Ran them on my mustang, it gripped better than some 4wd’s with all season tires on them, absolutely excellent winter tire.)
That should be “t-stat” for thermostat. Also, is there a significant weight reduction from the radiator and ceramic shorty headers?
I forgot one more thing.....
An oil collector/scavenging system. Never had to run one of these. What’s a solid, reputable one?
Oil from the PCV return line in the intake pools on the intake valves. Not really an issue, but a catch can will solve it. I put a catch can on my scat at 500 miles. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Why is there a lot of blow by with Dodge engines?
Oil catch can man that's it. Yes built up oil.
Absolutely, My father inlaws new Mustang GT did that intermittently before we installed a Oil Catch can. My Cousins 2017 Camaro did the same as well. They all need an oil catch can.
The Sloan this may sound stupid, but what’s the point of the oil catch can?
So the oil can catch cans.
Alexes Quiroz oh nice, don’t want any cans in my hemi.
Alex Gailliard that’s what I was thinking as well
After a car has sat over night and has some bad valve guides oil can slip by the worn valve guide and end up in the cylinder. When you make that first morning start up if you have some bad valve guides the tailpipes will smoke. I noticed it was your left bank that smoked. I wouldn't worry about it unless it remains.
Un burned fuel. That what the smoke was. SRT Technician
Burning oil on startup after sitting overnight could be valve seats leaking, It looked like coolant smoke which could be a head gasket leak. Check Radiator fluid for oil.

That sounds nice. Over the winter man. Here in Maryland it's $2.59 just for regular :{
$3.80 here in Michigan for 93 octane.
“I think, I feel, but have no specific reasons as to why not to buy a SCAT pack?”
Huh, I am a SCAT pack owner and knew nothing prior, but this is it in a nutshell.
BUT, a catch can will likely eliminate it.
with 13000 miles. its under warranty. take it to dealer for inspection,
if only blow puff of smoke after sitting over night,
you could have a bad value guide or valve guide seal
the oil drops pass the seals after sitting overnight and collect behind the intake valve, it burns off at start.
usually happens to older engines with 150,000 miles with dried up valve guide seals
Good video bro.. And my 392 has never smoked like that on a start 🤔🤔
It never ceases to amaze me with how many people will post a comment and not know the slightest damn thing about an engine or it's components.
Catch can needed. It’s from beating on your car
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The first 5:30 was a complete waste. Agree that you shouldn't bother adding forced induction. Just do simple bolt ons like a Hellcat airbox, larger throttle body, long tube headers, catch can, 93 octane tune, and enjoy it for what it is.
Gas is 2.04 in Houston tx 😂
TRUMP!
+1 on you should be driving a Prius.

And with some minor weight reduction, some are running high 10's.
