Great tip on the 392 powered cars. Here's a few tips I did as well. Mid muffler...don't delete. Instead, swap them out for Dynomax mini race bullets part #24250. Much more growl and bark, but keeps the drone away. Intake wise, I've run both the Mopar cai w/headlight tube and Hellcat setup...both perform well. After I tweaked the Mopar design a bit to seal it better, it kept the IAT ambient when moving + 20-25* cooler when in traffic than the Hellcat. Once my car is back together, going with a JLT series 2 as my intake setup. Forged, cammed 392 might need to breathe a little deeper..lol

I have a 2017 Charger Scatpack w/Daytona trim (6.4L Hemi, 275 tires, Brembo brakes (6 pistons on front, 4 on back), a lot of set ups (that the Tazer would unlock on other vehicles) and have used 93 octane from the beginning. When I purchased it, I told the finance guy I had no interest in racing it and would only put about 5k miles on it per year. So, the finance guy doubled the warranty to 10 yrs/60k miles as a perk. :)
I bought a non widebody 2015 scat pack Challenger (used @ 33k miles) and the previous owner did a resonator delete and put 275s on the front and 315s on the rear. Now the car can really keep the power down.
245's are hockey pucks. ! 305's with 2+ more inches in width (per side) are the best. But now watch your rims size 'cuz 295's are max on those stock Scat rims.! Great Vid X.!
No way? Seen a doctor about that? I'm planning on getting a scat in the near future. Just looking for that right $40k car out there!? I plan on destroying the 245s b4 I get 305 or 315s on her.
I added hellcat lower airbox to get the front grill inlet snorkel and did a afe dry drop in air filter. Don’t waste $300+ dollars on a CAI guys. Front air inlet really helps keep the IAT’s close to ambient.
Perfect. SRT's can put the power to the ground better than any inside tuning house I've ever come up against. Traction is always my biggest issue. With my 392 SRT 8, I was unable to find any discrepancies with these mods. I use it as a daily driver. Everyone wants better performance and sound. I can crank over 100hp out a stock SRT 4, but the 392s shouldn't be played with. No magic outside of turbos, superchargers or nitrous. Thanks for the vid. -A fellow professional tuner.
The catch can should be done before any other mod, period. Hemi’s are notorious for bad carbonization in the intake because of blow-by so the catch can should be done within the first few months of owning the vehicle. Second should be the tires. 275’s at a minimum, and a nice set of offsets allow you to put 305’s on the back without extending outward.
Good info. When I shop for rear rims for my upcoming Challenger Scat, what offset dimentions should I get so as to not have any rubbing? Car will ALWAYS stay at stock ride height btw. Thanks.
work play drive did a video on exhaust cutouts and a dyno session. he picked up about 3 horsepower with the exhaust dumped just after the cats. the exhaust setup on the 392 is already optimized really well from the factory. it even comes with manifolds that are basically shorty headers.
@@blackice7408 it'll get alot louder, you might pick up 1 or 2 horsepower, but you'll need a custom tune to maximize the air flow. with a tune, maybe 10 ish, depending on what other mods have been done and what gas you use.
@@vegaswould yea because the 392 from factory is already speced out as much as possible from factory. Thats why ur not gonna get much out of the engine if you try to do things to it. Now the 345 hemi however is very restrained from the factory. Thats why you can do a few things to it and get so much juice from it. I saw a guy run his stock 2017 charger rt in 30⁰F weather and got a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds - very close to the same time on a scatpack. And if you remove the speed limiter, you can potentially make the rt reach speeds of 171 mph on the charger - close to the 175 mph top speed of the scatpack
I work in a company that we build exhaust system for dodge company , exhaust for hellcat and other models of challenger . It breaks my heart people don’t like stock exhaust 😢 God knows how much we work hard to build them . I’m in IT department responsible for the robots and computers for cutting bending and welding pipes for the exhaust and mufflers. I wish people were keeping the stock exhaust 😭
People don’t realize losing too much back pressure in the exhaust can actually rob an engine of significant power. I am a car guy and like many different manufacturers and car makes. I own a 03 cobra, 04 z06, & 2018 z07. The cobra motor, unlike the Chevy motor, reacts poorly to free flowing exhausts. I added long tube headers, no cats, y-pipe to one chamber flowmasters; then, long tubes to no cats, straight pipes all the way back. Finally, long tubes to a x-pipe, to two chamber flowmasters and catted. I lost 60 rwhp with the long tubes going straight back vs the stock manifolds and catback exhaust. In the other hand, my 04 z06 picked 40 rwhp with long tubes and dual straight pipes all the way back, no muffler but still has cats. 03 cobra is Whipple supercharged and the 04 z06 is a&a centrifugal supercharged. 2018 z07 picked up 65 rwhp with a cold air kit and x-pipe and Borla attak added.
Even though it's 6 things you shouldn't do, RacerX seems to find a way to make it yet another positive video, which should read: 6 things you should do. Lol you're the best bro!
Got a 22’ widebody chally here n did super 10 from flowmasters and it was still very muted, so I ended up taking both the resonators and mufflers off.. and at part to mid throttle it sounds really good but not overly loud, and only gets raspy n raps when shifting in sport or track mode. I know most straight piped cars sound bad but to me it doesn’t sound overly obnoxious n I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the tone. There is noticeable drone at highway speeds but doesn’t really bother me, and is eliminated when manual upshifting into 7th or 8th gear.
A little tip for you . If there’s no carburetor and wired up mouse trap with all the new stuff for the animals so they can drive them no thanks . I only work on 1960 iron blocks .
4:14 what you do that affects the sound in Comfort depends on how often you're going to drive it and where. If it's just a track toy, go for it! If it's a daily driver like my yellow with the stripe, absolutely not!
Putting 275’s on the back of my scat pack made a noticeable difference, but these cars really need a 295 or 305 out back to really hook up. Great video, these 392’s engines come pretty optimized from the factory.
@@bossstrick oh for sure, I still get tons of spin taking off from a stop but they hook up a little quicker than the 245’s. I think drag slicks are the only tire that would put all that torque of the 392 down without spinning.
Great Tips for the “Newbies”. If the Dealer I go to doesn’t know what kind of Gas the Car that they are trying to sell me, I’m going to a different Dealer; Why Dodge, uses the 245’s is beyond me; Even on a 5.7 , They are too Small & Soft. IDK about going & getting new wheels Right after spending 40k+ on a Car. I think Dodge needs to start looking at all the little things that We are discussing concerning The Shortcomings of their Performance Brand;,, Or Maybe making 2 different versions one for the average Joe (DD’s)and one for the Gearheads (street & strip) I know SRT does a great job with the HellCats. But I tried to add everything I could get @ the Stealership but I was on a budget. The best I was able to do was a R/T Plus. And I didn’t come with Remote Start. But that was 2017. Wish Dodge would have a SRT Line that includes more than just Hellcats & Drag paks. Maybe in the near future if they don’t get a new platform; or maybe if They Do! Just my opinion. BTW I just hit 30k on my R/T. Totally Stock. Had some electrical bugs early; so purchased The best FCA extended warranty for 5 more years or 60k whichever comes first. I bought my intake off ebay for about $170. It's an off brand but it works and looks better then stock air box. I wouldn't waste 400+ on one for no gains basically
So why did the Dodge engineers make the aftermarket Mopar CAI? Why do Dodge engineers claim HP gains with their aftermarket CAI?By the way independent test dynos have shown the Mopar does increase HP Google it. Why did they also design it to except the hellcat inlet pipe? Why don't all chargers and challengers have the inlet pipe and hellcat box if Dodge engineers new what they are doing? What about the thousands of dyno before and after runs that show added HP? So you trust the engineers but then by default you must admit they are lying about the Mopar CAI? Lol

I agree about the dealer putting 87. I bought a Jeep SRT and the salesman offer to fill up the tank, luckily I was riding with him because he reached for the 87 and I told him not to because they only use 91 or higher.

For newer Challengers ... probably 2015+ ... Dodge will know if you swap ECMs. It will set a code in the BCM that the ECM has been removed. Probably depends on your relationship with the service department whether or not it becomes an issue.
3:40 - 4:30 YES YES YES!!!! I have been shouting this from the mountain tops. There are a ton of horrible sounding scat packs and 5.7 R/Ts. It's like the guy who spent $2,500 on his stereo system, but refused to spend $500 on (insert brand of sound deadening material here) to make sure that the rattles are not louder that the music.
I would like to point out that yes the manufacturers have the right to deny you warranty if you unlock your PCM but, they have to prove that it caused the damage. So for example if you unlocked your PCM and let’s say a window regulator stops working, that should be covered under warranty. Now if you tune it and blow up the engine or damage the transmission, yes they can void your warranty. It’s illegal for them to void your warranty altogether because of an unlocked PCM according to the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act
Dealers should know what gas it takes. I used to work as a lot tech for a Chevy dealer and for Diesel and Sports cars we would take it down the the gas station down the street to fill them up because we knew we didn't have 91+ gas or diesel on premises. If they fill it with normal gas they are being lazy.
You don't need 93 octane. Dodge engineered this motor to run perfect on 91. Don't stress over trying to find 93 or pay the exorbitant price for it. The car will perform admirably on 91.
1 of the most important things not to do is boost these cars without changing the factory piston set. The 392 has a thin piston top and is prone to cracking the piston when boosted. There is a company that sells a new set up thats drop in , no balancing required. The set is 15 lbs lighter than factor , and can take being boosted moderatly. The other thing you shouldnt do is drive fast but hey it hsppens 😅😅
I got my mids deleted and my cats gutted on my Charger Pursuit. Sounds great, no droning, and runs strong. May put some aftermarket mufflers on eventually just to tone down slightly. But I'm really happy overall.
I do put 5w40 engine oil in the summer cuz these 392 run really hot when you tune it. And i would highly recommend installing 180 T-stat and tune the fans.
I know this has been out there but missed the video before. The advice is very sound. I have the older Hellcat hood on mine. I didn't;t mind the extractors but the intake was annoying me as the engine was always dirty. I bought the TA intake kit to make the intake scoop more functional. Did that along with the Hellcat lower airbag and intake tube. Keeps the engine cooler and cleaner. The great thing is while it does block the drivers side extractor there is still large areas around the edge for plenty of heat to get out. For exhaust I am about to order the Xmod myself. I have always had very good luck with magnaflow exhaust on my cars.
WILL DODGE DEALERSHIP INSTALL A CATCH CAN ON A BRAND NEW CHALLENGER?🤔 ALSO WHICH BRAND OF 91 SUPER UNLEADED (THAT IS HIGHEST OCTANE WE HAVE IN CA) IS BEST FOR 392 SPWB CHEVRON OR COSTCO?🤔 BOTH ARE TOP TIER FUELS. OR IS ANY BRAND FUEL OK TO USE AS LONG AS IT IS 91 OCTANE??🤔

You are right about the gasoline. They won't let us use anything but 87 octane in our work vehicles, so I put 87 in my car out of habit. Seat of the pants told me that it had to drop back 50 horsepower or more. I love the sound of the factory exhaust. However, it can drone a little. My dad thinks it is too loud as is. He's 71 and doesn't love cars, so take that for what it's worth. I just don't see the point in changing the exhaust. It is probably the nicest factory exhaust I've ever seen. You used to have to go with the aftermarket for something similar to this factory exhaust. I still can't believe they put 245 width tires on the Scat Packs. Thankfully, my T/A came with 275s. They hook up decent, but when it gets cold out, you can burn them pretty easy. I'm thinking about buying a pair of wider factory style wheels for 295s or 305s.

Just got a 6 speed scat pack two weeks ago and love it! Haven’t spun the tires yet😁
Haha.. you will ... lol
Sweet
Damn that's a beautiful neighborhood.
About to get a 17 challenger scat- thank you for this video 🙌🏻🙌🏻
The catch can should be done before any other mod, period. Hemi’s are notorious for bad carbonization in the intake because of blow-by so the catch can should be done within the first few months of owning the vehicle. Second should be the tires. 275’s at a minimum, and a nice set of offsets allow you to put 305’s on the back without extending outward.
Good info. When I shop for rear rims for my upcoming Challenger Scat, what offset dimentions should I get so as to not have any rubbing? Car will ALWAYS stay at stock ride height btw. Thanks.
Catch can is a must I empty mine every week on my rt alteas an oz
work play drive did a video on exhaust cutouts and a dyno session. he picked up about 3 horsepower with the exhaust dumped just after the cats. the exhaust setup on the 392 is already optimized really well from the factory. it even comes with manifolds that are basically shorty headers.
Yes I fully agree with you my friend.
What if you install long tube headers with high flow cats
Yep,its the same exhaust setup as the Hellcat so if it'll handle 700+ hp.,485hp. isn't a problem
Thank you. New owner of a 2021 Charger Scatpack. Great info.
I just bought a 22 392 and love the exhaust sounds great...and my neighbors will appreciate the fact that I will not change it.
Hey thanks Rik...
I got my Scat Pack Challenger yesterday. Thanks for the heads ups!
You were being kind,, but I agree - muffler deleted cars sound like trash!
Enjoyed your tips mine's a 2012 SRT8 392 but I did buy it used ( I'm the third owner ) but love it .
drove a srt durango that thing got so much torque and i love it
Traded my 20 charger RT for a 20 challenger scat pack 50th anniversary. #6 of 70.
You and your damn videos made me! It’s so sick
One thing I will say about having 245s is you can "have fun" without even trying to! Lol makes driving it always an interesting experience 🤣
Thanks man you're a really big help to new Mopar owners.
Love that Shaker! MrsX we need to race (again). 1st run never made it out of ur video edit room so no proof who won. 😎
She’s always down to race .. 👍
Good advice for the 392 folks.
OWN a 2020 ScatPack widebody .. ... Love it ,,, had 2012 SRT ,, this one is much better .. mine has 305' ... great traction!
The MBRP after market exhaust sounds amazing on it.
A little tip for you . If there’s no carburetor and wired up mouse trap with all the new stuff for the animals so they can drive them no thanks . I only work on 1960 iron blocks .
U the Man. Great info. KEEP IT COMMING
I still spin like crazy with 305’s nitto 555’s
@@bossstrick oh for sure, I still get tons of spin taking off from a stop but they hook up a little quicker than the 245’s. I think drag slicks are the only tire that would put all that torque of the 392 down without spinning.
@@p71josh all that power in these unchanged ugly boats and still slower than a Camaro or even mustang
@@tatortot999 Aint no way you just said that
@@bugattisss6603 Scat pack is slower than a SS or GT
Wish Dodge would have a SRT
Line that includes more than just Hellcats & Drag paks. Maybe in the near future if they don’t get a new platform; or maybe if They Do! Just my opinion. BTW I just hit 30k on my R/T. Totally Stock. Had some electrical bugs early; so purchased The best FCA extended warranty for
5 more years or 60k whichever comes first. Has a 100 dollar deductible for anything that is not a typical wear item; ie Tires, brake linings, wiper blades, etc.
Sorry So Long. Keep up with the excellent content!
I have a 2019 Daytona 392 which came factory with 275 perelli tires THEY ARE JUNK! got Firestone firehawk 500s and made a vast improvement
I’m loving my 1320 wow going to the track this Wednesday can’t wait.
Hey just bought my 2020 scat pack charger and thanks to you, I was more convinced
Great review I'm cutting down my meds leaving on the resonators keep up the good work
I bought my intake off ebay for about $170. It's an off brand but it works and looks better then stock air box. I wouldn't waste 400+ on one for no gains basically
Bigger tires with smaller sidewalls require more air pressure and give a smaller contact pad and less traction. Function before form.
I love the 315s on my widebody. I couldn’t imagine a 275 much less that donut of a 245.
Yeah...I have a 345 and The 245s feel really inadequate.
An aftermarket intake on a 392 doesn't help add horsepower because the Dodge engineers know what there doing! LOL
Agreed my friend
So why did the Dodge engineers make the aftermarket Mopar CAI? Why do Dodge engineers claim HP gains with their aftermarket CAI?By the way independent test dynos have shown the Mopar does increase HP Google it. Why did they also design it to except the hellcat inlet pipe? Why don't all chargers and challengers have the inlet pipe and hellcat box if Dodge engineers new what they are doing? What about the thousands of dyno before and after runs that show added HP? So you trust the engineers but then by default you must admit they are lying about the Mopar CAI? Lol
@@shinobi9922 Do you really think Dodge enginers make aftermarket parts! Ok let me clear something up for you, when I mentchend aftermarket intakes not helping I was talking about intake manafolds not CAI! Your a special kinda stupid aren't you LOL
@@modine6968 lol why were you talking about intake manifolds? No where in the video was intake manifolds ever discussed. RacerX was talking about CAI's (cold air intake) systems. So you must be the special kind of stupid you were talking about if you are talking about something unrelated to the video. Also you spelled the word manifolds wrong, the word mentioned wrong and and it is you are or you're not your. Learn English and grammar. And stop lying to say you meant something else when you didn't.
@@shinobi9922 5:25 Racer X was talking about intake manifolds and he eaven agreed with my original post. As for the spelling errors, I can spell just fine, but my spellcheck likes to change shit on me and I didn't realize it. If you don't know anything about cars then stay off the car channels. You are the special kind of stupid, I know what the fuck I'm saying.
Agreed...aftermarket air intake kits on most new high HP cars are $400 noise makers!
I agree about the dealer putting 87. I bought a Jeep SRT and the salesman offer to fill up the tank, luckily I was riding with him because he reached for the 87 and I told him not to because they only use 91 or higher.
Regular scheduled oil changes avoid those problems. I have a 5.7 Hemi Ram and I'll only let the dealership change oil in my truck.
Great tips and explanation...I surprised with the zero power of cats deleted!!!!!! In the end of the day your suggest is make sense
Went with 20x10(275) in the front and 20x11.5(315) on the rear on my 2019 Charger Scat Pack. The 245s just didn't feel right to on such heavy bulky vehicle.
For newer Challengers ... probably 2015+ ... Dodge will know if you swap ECMs. It will set a code in the BCM that the ECM has been removed. Probably depends on your relationship with the service department whether or not it becomes an issue.
Yes my tech would also reprogram the mileage for me as well since it didn't match
3:40 - 4:30
YES YES YES!!!!
Big problem is finding 91 ... at least in SE TN
Only run 93 octane NO ethanol in mine since new. Currently one year old with 1700 miles on it. Only mods are oil catch can and ceramic tint.
That’s a lot of good info . Thanks keep them coming.
Great video thank you. Short sweet and to the point!
I do put 5w40 engine oil in the summer cuz these 392 run really hot when you tune it. And i would highly recommend installing 180 T-stat and tune the fans.
As ALWAYS -YOU- make the video and your FACTS come ALIVE-great job keep up the great videos!!
I wouldn't have known some of it, thanks for the info
Great info just got a 392 myself
WILL DODGE DEALERSHIP INSTALL A CATCH CAN ON A BRAND NEW CHALLENGER?🤔
ALSO WHICH BRAND OF 91 SUPER UNLEADED (THAT IS HIGHEST OCTANE WE HAVE IN CA) IS BEST FOR 392 SPWB CHEVRON OR COSTCO?🤔 BOTH ARE TOP TIER FUELS. OR IS ANY BRAND FUEL OK TO USE AS LONG AS IT IS 91 OCTANE??🤔
Nice video with some good information!💯
Another don't...don't hit the gas too hard in wet weather..especially when cornering‼️😬
Yes. great catch on that one..
YOU DID IT!!!! Bless your little ole pea pickin heart. You called it an Engine!! I dont know what it is about me and motor/engine but so many people I think out of habit just call them a motor. God bless you brother. You do some great videos with information. Keep up the good work
Did that just for you lol... thank you my friend
They're interchangeable, unless you think a motorcycle should be called an enginecycle.
87 Octane in a $60K Muscle/Performance Car ??? 91 Octane MINIMUM to prevent premature engine damage/wear & ensure a smooth ride..
