Never seeing door stops flush with the liners, it’s something new for me. Normally wide door stops to get a professional fit, I’ve learned something new today well done
Top workmanship John. We do it a wee bit different up here in Scotland. Hang doors and fit lock/latch and door furniture. Fit keeper to door stiles, cut and fit full stops/slamming strips to door and then fit facings/architraves. Same final result.
Maybe it's just a Midlands thing then 😁 I find people's different techniques really interesting. It just goes to show that every day's a school day and we can all learn a lot from each other. Thanks for watching. All the best, John 😊
Traditional period features fitted taking advantage of modern tools, mix in some talent and your left with work finished to a very high standard. No wham bam chalk it in ma’am.... also there appears to be no end to this mans talents, keep it up
Thanks John, awsome job as always. Perhaps you could advise me what should I do to rectify my door frame. The builder has fitted door frames which are sticking out of the wall edge about 10mm. Walls are skimmed already.I wanted to fit arcitraves but is not flash with wall.
I personally find the pull saw a good tool for this job. All the skirting has been machined up to match in with the existing, it's very nice stuff 👌🏻 Thanks for watching. All the best, John 😊
I like how you are meticulous with measuring and the spacing of the nails etc. I do my own woodwork and diy, and I would like to start working as a carpenter, but I have been told that if I want to work for a company, I cannot be as meticulous, as trade here in the UK is all about speed and rate of work. May I ask, in your opinion, does being detailed make you feel under pressure timewise, especially if you were working for a company?
Hi Hard Worker Eclipse Coping Saw and the packet of blades they do, I have two coping saws with the blade turned left and right just saves time thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍
Great video John! What is your solution when you come across proud plaster around the door frames? Do you remove the plaster and re-plaster around the door or fit ripped-down strips to cover the gaps? Also, for the dimensions of architrave it doesn't sound like you allow anything for the paint? Your videos are absolutely terrific - it looks like you have a great team : )
The owner of this property must be so pleased to have their builders record the quality of the work being carried out.Of course the quality and workmanship is superb, just how many trades does John run his hand to and they are carried our beautifully?
If the strip covers the lining (apart from the door rebate) then it's classed as a door casement; in which case they're slamming strips. If it's a standard door lining, with the strip only covering part of it, then it would be a door stop. Hope this helps. All the best, John 😊
Yeah but in this case they are door stops because your mechanically fixing them right ? A fixed casement has the door depth rebates out of the lining ?
Hi Brendan, It's great to hear that you're enjoying our videos 😁 It's a brand called Z, from Axminster Tools. It's a great saw which has been useful on many occasions. Definitely worth having one in your kit. Hope this helps. All the best, John 😊
Love to hear what you guys think of pre-finished doorsets, architraves and skirtings? OK the components are (generally) MDF which not everyone is a fan of but the finish is second to none and is very hard for even the greatest painter match if applied insitu onsite.
I enjoy watching you guys renovating these old properties, but I kinda noticed you guys rarely wear safety shoes/boots, lead by example i say :) great video
Hi Toby it’s all about finish, finish, detail, detail, I was taught caring about the stuff that’s not seen is just as important yes it could be classed as over the top but not on my watch 😂 all the best Tony 👍
I'm watching all your vids to learn how to do all this myself so I don't have to get some dick head, rip off tradie in like I have done in the past but if you guys were local, I'd have you lot do it! :D Good stuff lads.
My god you made a meal out of that, hang the door first, put in your keeper and then your door stop pretty simple. That's the first time I ever seen anyone plane a doorframe that's already fixed. If your going to post tutorial videos for people to watch maybe you should learn how to hang a door properly first. Turned it off before you put on the architrave
Hi hally12hally everyone has a different way of hanging doors. If I was site bashing then I would or John would swing loads of doors first, then drill hole for keeper no keeper at this point then Stops, architrave, skirting and finally keeps and handles so really your keeper is too early really. John did mention the bow in the door but this is all semantics, now I am not an expert by any means but quite good at what I do and the old boy who taught me was second to none. Thanks for watching. All the best Tony 👍
Yes you are right there are many ways to hang a door. My comments were to critical in fairness, my apologies. Having watched more of your videos I see you are a good tradesman. Keep up the good work 👍

Not sure it's a Scottish thing Dougie - I was taught the same in the very south of England! 😀
Maybe it's just a Midlands thing then 😁 I find people's different techniques really interesting. It just goes to show that every day's a school day and we can all learn a lot from each other.
Thanks for watching.
All the best, John 😊
Excellent. Just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Cheers mate keep up the good work 👍👍
At last someone using a coping saw the right way, i was taught to cut on the pull as it keeps blade under tension.
Cheers and thank you for watching Brian! 😎👍
Use a jigsaw instead
Takes seconds to do with a fine blade on a jigsaw
I love these videos so much better than netflix I follow all the projects 🤗🤗

Thanks Geord, glad you're enjoying our videos.
All the best, John 😊
Every fibre of my body would be against notching those architraves round the hinge. I think I would be creating a margin.
What tools do you use to cut the 2 Architraves where the top corners meet the head? Just so you get perfect angled cuts that are neet and tidy?
Block plane 👍
Nice work John! Making it look super easy
Thanks MMG, have a great week bud 👍

Do your door slammers go to the edge of the outside of the liner?
Cracking work mate, love a good scribe and that’s a perfect example👌🏽👌🏽
Cheers mate 😎
All the best, John 😊
Good work as normal. Like to use a gents saw for the straight bit on my scribes never tried the pull saw.
Skirting looked like some quality stuff.
I personally find the pull saw a good tool for this job. All the skirting has been machined up to match in with the existing, it's very nice stuff 👌🏻
Thanks for watching.
All the best, John 😊
Love the ear defenders round the neck :) Lovely work as always

Well done you. Looks great 👍
Thanks! Take care 👍

Can you recommend what brand coping saw blade are best to buy
Hi Hard Worker Eclipse Coping Saw and the packet of blades they do, I have two coping saws with the blade turned left and right just saves time thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍
Don't forget to allow for paint on them slamming strip's especially on the hinge side 👍 great work love the vids I learne a lot form you guys 👍
Thanks Daniel, take care! 👍
How much do you allow on the hinge side?

And millionaires
Never heard them called slamming strips before always known them as door stops 🤔

Depends if you've got teenagers or gearing up for a divorce!
Hi John, what's the variety of pull saw your using ?, Great workmanship btw, loving your tutorials 👍

Top man John, I'll definitely be adding one to my bag, many thanks
And how would you put Architraves around door frame if the wall is coming out further that the door frame?
Mark the arch were it’s going and score with knife and tap with hammer and flush it off 👍
@@BuildWithAE wicked thanks for the reply 👍

No quirk on the arcitrive?
Wood butchery at its finest 😉🧱👌🏼. Seriously though great job John 👌🏼
Thank you as always gents 😎
All the best, John 😊
Build With A&E 🧱👍🏽
Door architrave flush with door frame 😳🤣😂🤣
Hi Amir it is an odd detail I would agree but we have to copy what has been done on the other frames on that floor along time ago all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE nice work 👍
Nice one cheers
Thanks for watching Blue Boy 👍
4:48 this door is clearly warped
Why did you take a rebate out the facing 🙈
Simply the best 👌🏼
Cheers bud, have an awesome week 👍
I enjoy watching you guys renovating these old properties, but I kinda noticed you guys rarely wear safety shoes/boots, lead by example i say :) great video
Never heard slamming strips before...always referred to them as door checks..
Stop lats , ive always called them , in London they call them door stops ....... Just wrong!
Okada Hardware Mfg Z-saw handy 200.
I noticed that you use screws to secure your trim work. In Canada most everything is done with a nail gun. Yours for sure aren't going to move.
Adverts are killing it.
Good video but the fish eye lens is overwhelmingly off putting for something that is literally all about perfect straight lines!!
is there a reason you're measuring all nails and using a hammer.. after paint no one would ever know
Hi Toby it’s all about finish, finish, detail, detail, I was taught caring about the stuff that’s not seen is just as important yes it could be classed as over the top but not on my watch 😂 all the best Tony 👍
First
The best doors and frames are in Europe and Russia!!
Hanging second hand doors... Don't get me stared. 💩
I'm watching all your vids to learn how to do all this myself so I don't have to get some dick head, rip off tradie in like I have done in the past but if you guys were local, I'd have you lot do it! :D Good stuff lads.
Show us you doing it not exactly how.
