A one-armed stranger comes to a tiny town possessing a terrible past they want to keep secret, by violent means if necessary.
Something awful has happened at black rock, a sin that has ties to Pearl Harbour and a small towns attitude towards the Japanese.. that sin is directly associated with Reno Smith (Robert Ryan) he’s the big man around town, and the one Macreedy (Spencer Tracy) must deal with.
Although the death of an innocent Japanese man may rest on the shoulders of this bunch of ignorant rednecks, the whole small town mentality of black rock hints at a community that’s been bypassed by society and progress, left to their own devices and sense of justice…
"Bad Day at Black Rock" is a fascinating 80 minute thriller despite its short run time it doesn’t feel in a rush, it uses its time well to really build up an atmosphere around the cast..

Don't forget Dean Jagger--the sheriff. Mr. Jagger was a top notch actor who had 124 movie credits and won an Oscar for TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH.

I really enjoy your reviews, as you often choose some great (and sometimes, sadly overlooked) classics - like this one. All the performances are excellent here, and you're right - in spite of the wide, open space of the setting; there's a true feeling of claustrophobia present. Great review - thanks!

I love this movie but honestly, if you know about the Japaneses-American internment i WWII, and once you learn that Komoko senior was interned [or said to be interned], it is am immediate jump to the townspeople having murdered him.

Thanks for watching and thanks for that feedback. Yes the table set up is hopefully temporary until I get my movie room up and running then hopefully the background will be a bit livelier. Appreciate you taking the time to watch 👍🏼👍🏼🎞🎞

Suggestions : The Flight of The Phoenix ?
The original NOT The abysmal re-make ? Or compare
both ? And The Pawnbroker ? One of Rod Steiger's
most amazing performances . Yes , he could be hammy
( and probably was too often ) but when he was good he
was in a class of his own.

Rod Stieger really tried to get as much intensity out of every character in which he was cast. Even small parts. And anyway he had an interesting voice and facial features.
