- "What's up gamers, DreamcastGuy here"... and today we are going to be taking a looking at a truly special TH-cam video in which DreamcastGuy claims that the Xbox Series S is a complete Waste of money and that Microsoft is literally scamming their customers by lying about the nature of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. (Even though PlayStation is literally doing the exact same thing with the PS5 but that is ok because it's Sony) Apparently Microsoft has lied about the size of the SSD inside the Xbox Series X and S because not all of it will be available for downloading games because according to dreamcastguy, the IS shouldn't occupy any space on the SSD....

Are we going to pretend that 667GB is equal to just over 300GB now? Personally I think it's nonsense for ANY digital only system to have anything less than 2TB of usable storage at launch. Which is why I got the expansion for my series x, and a 2tb nvme for my PS5.

Honestly I returned my X for a series S, I own a 4K tv too. The games feel as good to play 95% of the time, it can stream at 4k, and the console itself looks way nicer / runs quieter and cooler. I also use game-pass. The hardware is very well balanced inside, channels like digital foundry are finding more and more AAA games like Cyberpunk and Halo infinite that are best experienced on series S because the CPU and GPU don’t bottleneck each other

Most of that "missing" space is actually for formatting on the drive, the OS, and the different applications that allow for backwards compatibility. Also 1 thing thats really important to realize is that games for next gen are going to be smaller in the future. Because part of the reason games are so big these days is due to the game having to have the same assets copied multiple times in the game files to help with load times. Because up until now games had to be designed for spinning hard drives, not the astronomically faster ssds that are in the new consoles and have been in pcs for years. Basically what that means is that games are going to get smaller once developers can utilize the new drives better.

Yeah...you can move your tower but it never quite works right like a console. Even big picture mode is buggy and I have controller issues disconnecting. Consoles just work well.
Also it’s nice not optimizing games. So many games today are actual dogshit on PC until they get patched to shit and they STILL sometimes don’t work well.

Quick resume has to do with the available space on the xbox series s and x. About 100 gbs are reserved for dumping the ram into there so when you open the game back up it takes that dump file and puts it back into memory. But excluding that great video

Well the thing about that is those games were not optimized for either system so both the series x and ps5 could load faster. and they were not using xbox velocity architecture so those games on series x can load even faster.

@@TSPH1992 actually you can upgrade the storage but you have to disassemble the console and take out the ssd to put the new one in so for non tech savvy people it's not worth the trouble.

@@xfiqf2812 you don’t take out the ssd, the internal ssd in the ps5 is soldered to the mother board, you put in a whole second ssd into a special slot that can be accessed by sliding off one of the side plates which has shown to be fairly easy.
I honestly been playing Playstation since I was born and I can honestly say I'm not playing Xbox for exclusive, the support and love and the feeling that Xbox will help you when you are in trouble is actually what made me fall in love with xbox
I sold my ps4 at the start of the pandamic and got an Xbox one and it made me more relaxed playing videos games.

You literally can connect any external HDD or SSD to the xbox series S and use it as external storage and install games on it, it obviously wouldn't be as fast as the internal SSD but it's still a good option especially for people who already own external drives.

Yeah I got a Series S and the storage situation CAN be a struggle. But I knew this going into it already. I am literally overwhelmed by how much good stuff there is on the Game Pass to play while wanting to keep stuff like Forza Horizon 4 installed (145GB) which is almost 50% of my storage. But that's a good problem to have. I can always hook up my 1TB External HDD to play non-enhanced games or lose 50 bucks for a 250GB External SSD.
Fast internet (which I'm lucky enough to have) and the fast SSD in the Series S itself is also a great combo to quickly download any game you're craving to play while keeping them unninstalled in the "Play Later" section of the Game Pass (or on your library).
It is not just OS reserved. Manufacturers always quote unformatted sizes. Even with no OS on the drive you’d lose a fair bit when formatted.

I thought Phones used a different type, or at least a different iteration of storage tech than what SSDs use because if it was all the same, theoretically the Switch would have better io than the current gen but the amount of texture pop-in in games says something else.

He doesn’t get that it’s an entry point system not just for budget conscious people, but for people that have never bought an Xbox before. That’s the real target market. You get them in the door with the platform, their live service and game pass. Most people that buy consoles could care less about exclusives. The sales figures show that. COD by far is the biggest game played on consoles. I applaud MS for trying to get more people to play their games. I have the PC game pass and I’m going to get a PS5. I’m set. I can play all of the games. If I didn’t have a gaming PC, I would get the X though.
@@scotrugby4529 If you're budget conscious, used games would be the way to go. The purpose of a system without an optical drive is to lock you into an ecosystem and and a store of choice, maximizing revenue for the platform owner.
In the above mentioned scenario of Series S for kids with but few games they play om infinite repeat, it might work out. What will suffer in the long run is customer choice, as well as each and every brick and mortar games store that will eventually be optimized out of the picture. There will be no second hand market. Physical copies will be phased out. That's the future you finance when you buy discless.

The PS5 is worse. On the Series S with Smart Delivery, firstly, games will be smaller because they won't have 4K textures, and secondly eventually you'll be allowed to just download the parts of the game you want, eg single player or multiplayer like you can do with Halo MCC on Steam. You can choose which games to install and if you just want single player or multiplayer. That saves so much space.
On the PS5, you have 600GBs odd for a 4K console. So if you want to make use of the PS5 to it's best, each next gen game is going to be huge.

Also on the topic of storage any external hard drive that you can get for Xbox One will work for The Series S/X if you want a cheaper option for storage.

People giving a lot of bad hot takes on the "S". If you have a 1080p tv, and plan on keeping that TV, the S makes the most sense. Small hard drive? Just delete games . Even you delete a game, if you reinstall it, all your saves are restored, you don't lose anything. Maybe if you got slow internet and redownloading games won't work for how you play, but then you know getting an X or more storage is needed.
Exactly, the S is for people who want more power than the One X (and it IS a lot more powerful) but don't own a 4k tv or can afford a 4k tv to take advantage of the Series X. With all the shit going on right now in the US with the lock downs and the masses of people out of work lots of people, even with Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, are not going to be able to drop $1k on a 65" 120Hz 4K OLED tv.
If I didn't have a 4k TV I would buy the S.
Everyone agrees the Xbox is an amazing console, it just lacks AAA games to show off the power. That seems to be the only gripe 🤷🏾♂️
