- Overall I think both models of the PlayStation 5 are going to preform the same for the spam of this console generation and is gonna be fine, I just think it is funny how quick PlayStation fanboys are to rush to the defense of their precious plastic box and just automatically assume that everyone is just out to drag their precious ps5 through the mud when they are just stating the facts.
DreamcastGuy is back on his PS5 fanboy BS once again this time proclaiming Austin Evans as an Xbox series x fanboy because he simply pointed out the fact that the new revision of the playstation 5 had a smaller heatsink due to less copper being used and that the new revision ps5 was pushing out more heat than that of the original playstation 5 model. Nothing which could really be perceived as fanboy rhetoric unless you are a fanboy yourself like our boy dreamcastguy. Dreamcastguy originally uploaded a video calling out Austin Evans in which he got ratio'd hard core on after Austin Evans responded to the drama surrounding his original comparison video. As a result dreamcastguy responded to Austin Evans calling him out for basically "harassing a smaller channel" lmao even though Austin never once mentioned his channel by name at any point in the video and it was dreamcastguy himself that threw the first punch in this entire scenario. This video has got to be one of the worst we have ever seen on this channel but hey at least it should be pretty entertaining.

Austin Evans was 100% correct. He never said the PS5 would blow up or the PS5 had some major problem, he said the new PS5 is worse and runs about 5 degrees hotter. Gamers Nexus confirmed what Austin Evans saw, the APU was running about 5 degrees hotter. Smaller heatsink = more heat in the APU.
It seems the new version is better though :)

Ps5 is always negative. Ps5 runs hot at 48 C, xbox runs warm at 56 C.
Ps5 is relatively quiet but cant hear xbox at all, when ps5 is more quiet.

Changing the ssd on xbox is "better" because its proprietary, so stupid expensive, but "cheap" for him.

Well, honestly, a smaller heat sink, while drawing more power, is a good recipe for shortening the overall lifespan of the electronic device in question.
That's right, but if I have 2 consoles in front of me and don't see that the heat pipes are round on the new PS5 and flat on the old one, then I shouldn't shout out loud that the new one is worse than the old one.
The cooler on the APU is smaller because the heat from the chip is transported away faster through the round heat pipes.
So if the heat is not getting to the cooler, why leave it there?
The most important thing is that Sony has improved the cooling.
Even if it's just a little, it's better and it's a hefty 11 ° on the APU. Overall, the cooling is better than before.

You live in a place where Summer is 30C or higher now we looking to closer to 100C for those modules.
So it runs hotter with a worse cooler, with less copper but we still pay the same price for physically less product and inferior design

Austin gets a revision that no one showed off yet. Took it apart and saw the heatsync was smaller.
Then mentioned HIS unit ran a bit louder and warmer. And said it MIGHT leader to worse performance over time (and he was talking about thermal performance....). A logial assumption considering there was no other reports on it so he knew nothing about it. So he saw it ran hotter and louder. So he rightfully assumes the revision may be worse.
The "media" is what blew this up saying he said crap he never said.
The sad thing is digital foundry and gamers Nexus even did a small colab and showed his result was 100% a possibility because no system will perform exactly the same in terms of fan noise and thermal. There will always be differences betwe different units

Then his video came out and literally the entire first segment is him backtracking and making a huge disclaimer that Austin can achieve the correct results with the wrong approach and that even though the revision SOC is consistently hotter his results are within the margin of error and not conclusive. Richard meanwhile acknowledges that power draw and boost clocks don't change with thermals by design meaning performance won't be affected whether the console is hot or not then proceeds to do a performance analysis anyway and even points out that framerates don't change when put in a media cabinet. What a pointless video the real metric should be how hot the PS5 is allowed to run because we already know even with the fan disconnected and zero airflow the console will still run and be allowed to play games at full power as demonstrated by Jonathan from Spawn Wave way back at launch. It is worse. Smaller heat sink means it runs hotter and fans have to work harder. It could lead to fan failure down the line but we’ll have to see.

@@Forest9528 I wouldn’t know. All I know is that they turned up fan rpm which will also make it louder than it already is. I think it is objectively worse but also it’s definitely not gonna fail anytime soon or burst into flames. It’s not much of an issue.

I think the overall takeaway that I've gotten from your channel over the years is that people have zero fucking self awareness. It's fun to watch but also kind of sad. @@Sun-dq2po yes, it runs slightly hotter but not enough to affect boost clocks, effectively meaning there is no measurable performance difference between the two versions. They are certainly differences between the Teo versions, but not in performance. That said... More heat can shorten the lifespan of hardware... But a few degrees is not really a big deal. I'd imagine there to be other failure points to come before heat related ones... But only time will tell that story.
DF didn't show us anything. The PS5 doesn't adjust power draw or boost clocks based on thermals by design. Rich acknowledges this then goes ahead with a performance analysis, why? It will be the same whether hot or not. Was a really dumb video imo. The most important metric at the heart of this whole mess is thermals and they didn't even bother to measure it 🤦🏻♂️

Does he know what a heatsink does? The whole point is to help keep it from overheating which is already a problem with the original PS5 so it having a smart heatsink is a not a good thing.
From what I've seen the new heatsink does actually do a better job of cooling

@@MultiKool13 Even according to the videos proving Austin wrong it does run slightly hotter but any heatsink with less surface area and lesser materials will run worse that's just how those components work since they are fairly basic in terms of how radiating heat works. Especially since the fan is barely different and was shown to not increase airflow all that much. Well see if it ends up working but if it increases failure rate this whole thing is gonna be hilarious.

@@gomezbrothers1929 It's a bit more complicated than that, you see when you have larger heatsinks the heat gets spread more which allows the heat to be moved out a lot more efficiently than if it were smaller because of the larger surface area so since they didn't upgrade the fan it will run slightly hotter but if they did it likely would have been able to cover the difference in heatsinks. Hotter exhausts might just mean the heat is more concentrated on the smaller heatsinks so overall the heat is being removed but at a slower rate.
I don't watch Austin Evans but when I see his videos on the occasion they are usually pretty solid and informative. It is just baffling that Dreamcastguy calls Austin Evan of all people a microsoft shill. DCG needs to grow up.

A great friend of mine who for some reason really appreciates Dcguy, he recently said he was gonna watch the Deathloop review because DCGuy is always honest. I mean......

I prefer my electronics to run as cool as possible which is a standard goal for designers. The slight temperature increase may not make a difference now but in a couple of years when PS5 hardware is really being pushed that 3 degrees could very well make a difference.
I don't know why Dreamcast cares so much about Austin. The PS5 got a new fan and Sony gets to save money with a negligible difference. That's a win imo.

The really sad thing is that DCGuy didn't even watch the video himself. Cause if he did he would have known that while the SOC backside is on average 4 degrees C hotter, which doesn't tell the whole story since you can't actually test the core temp on the PS5, the new heatsink actually lowers the temps on the VRMs and memory, simply because the new part is machined with a better fit than the old one, totally aside from the material changes. So basically, the APU is running hotter, but the VRMS and memory are running cooler. But he didn't even use these arguments, he just kept saying, "it's not worse!" with no actual evidence to back that up.
And that's without considering that Gamers Nexus, which he sourced, specifically stated that there's only so much information that you can get due to issues like not having a core temp measurement, and ends the video with 6 minutes of reminders of the limitations of his testing.

IIRC, Mark Cerny stated in the "Road to Playstation 5" video that regardless of the PS5's temp, performance will stay the same. It won't throttle due to higher temps. The PS5 would likely shutdown itself first rather than reducing performance on the worst case scenario.

Measure the temp of the exhaust coming out of the cooling vents is not a good way to determine if a system is running better or worse. The hotter the exhaust temp, the more heat that is being removed, meaning, it is running cooler at the source.
