i like the details i noticed that in "amd's cpus in 2017" the amd logo is on a top of a mountain and in this video the amd logo is in a valley great summary of the content
Samuel Souza AMD actually never surpass intel much, best they did was the Athlon 64. But they ended up sharing the x64 architecture with intel! Without AMD, Intel wouldn't be as big as now.
My gtx 770-4gb fan low but in 70c degrees and up my gpu fans run on max. All my fans in my pc runs max in 60c. Sounds I don’t care. Overclock to limit. :D
Luka Sušić it's just annoying. Some people are more sensetive to noise than others. It's the same thing about itx cases. Why not just get a larger case and fit a full sized graphics card?
AMD is single-handedly keeping Nvidia and Intel from holding a monopoly in their respective markets, that's a good enough reason to support AMD even if they sometimes fail to properly price their products - although I would say that the new Ryzen lineup is some extremely good value for money, so it's not like you're paying more for less when supporting AMD.
I have never once in my life seen someone consider the GTX 1080, a $600 graphics card, mid-range...lol Otherwise I agree with most of this. I really enjoy that AMD is still holding strong in the mid-range market, but I genuinely hope they have something that competes with the 1080ti or higher.
It is midrange by nvidia's own GPU codename nomenclature. GP-104 is midrange, the gimped edition so to speak, GP-102 is the full Pascal chip. Just because it costs a lot does not make it high end. Because of this, it is not an enthusiast's choice by any stretch, as you'll see it age much quicker than 1080ti.
And while Nvidias Closed Source Blob of a Linux driver continues to break at every major kernel release, AMDs free openGL and Vulkan Drivers keep getting better and better each month.
Marek Černoch The OSS variant is almost exclusively maintained by the Community. It does not have acceptable Performance on Maxwell and Pascal, because Nvidia does not release certain signed files that are needed for reclocking (going over 300mhz gpu clock or smthn)
I was SO looking forward to Vega. My first GPU was used 5770, then a 6770 and a 7970 upon Release. I loved everything about those cards, they never failed on me and I could have kept using All of them. My 7970 needed to be replaced because the 3gb of RAM just didn't cut it anymore. I would have loved to keep buying AMD because the 7970 Was the Single best purchase I have ever done. Sadly, AMD did Not deliver in the end, so I went for a GTX 1070. It was kinda sad swapping my trusty 7970 out, even if it sounds weird it was like losing some kinda friend lol
Vega 56 is faster in all regards than gtx 1070, compute and gaming, over time the pascals won't be able to handle newer titles as well as polaris or vega.
TropiKo but it's also more expensive, Power hungry and runs hotter. All in all, the 1070 I bought (with a slight discount of 20€) Was the better option by far.
AMD's Navi architecture will be a game changer. For those who don't know, they are bringing the "infinity fabric" which made ryzen and epyc successful over to their gpu division. They can now connect two or more gpus in a single card with perfect scalability. They are also slashing the fab from 14nm to 7nm. Nvidia are considering this route themselves in the near future, but AMD seem to be ahead of them in this race. The tables might turn in 2018.... or 2019 if AMD does a classic and launches it late.
People say that AMD will rise in every year, because of some new architecture and technology with a fancy name. Just don't hold your hopes up, and you won't be dissapointed.
Derively, I didn't have any hopes for the rx500 series nor Vega (once 1080ti got released). I recommended Pascal cards because they perform better with better efficiency. But Navi will be different. It will mark the turn of the gpu architecture in a whole other direction.
Good comment. You do have the right vision for AMD. The only reason why Nvidia has been so good in the past is because of their focus on DX11, with low level APIs being the future along MCMs, AMD will definitely be back in the game regardless of how late because this is where AMD always exceeded. Innovating for their future, the fact that old GCN cards all gets a new life using low level APIs says much. Unlike poor Kepler, slowly dying Maxwell and soon enough Pascal.
... ".. at prices well beyond the original asking price, then AMD are laughing right now!" ... You do know that all that money goes to the retailers, right? AMD have sold the cards at the same base cost all this time - profits from miners are all taken by the shops and other third parties.
Whenever someone with a following has an opposing view, they’re called fanboys or sellouts. He’s being really objective. Compare him to actual AMD fanboys and you’ll see the difference. He wants competition between AMD and Nvidia. Why shouldn’t he? It’s the best for the consumers if they’re neck-at-neck instead of one blowing the other out of the water
4:14 Oh, that's a punch in the gut for AMD. For anyone who doesn't get the reference, AMD's marketing included pictures with posters in the background saying "Poor Volta", alluding that it was going to beat Nvidia's Volta line-up, which obviously isn't going to happen since they struggle with Pascal as it is.
Ahh, the mind share card. This is true to an extent. Yes, AMD is selling all the gpu chips they make in the 570 and 580 range, but they are not seeing any extra money from the sales, their MSRP is still $179 for a 4GB 580 and $219 USD for an 8GB 580 ($10 less than the 480 variants). This extra profit is going to AIB’s, but more-so to retailers/resellers. Another issue that many retailers talked about was ordering less cards than demand on purpose. 1. It kept them safe. When the mining bubble popped in 2013 they were left with warehouses of 290’s and the markets flooded with used 7970’s, 280/x and 290/x. It led to them having to drastically lower prices, or end up stuck with unsold stock. So that pushed prices higher, until mining died down, and they found their equilibrium that for reasons I can’t explain save consumer ignorance, has settled $50-$100 over MSRP. Anyway, I wish AMD were making the extra money and not the retailers who practiced some of the ugliest practices, especially with 580’s and Vega’s launch where they raised prices on the display by $259 the second the bundles were available, kept the rebates for themselves while not reflecting it in the bundled price (which was already $100 more for the card, and as I said with the display, prices on other chips and boards were raised. A launch that was already going to be a let-down turned into what could be argued, the worst GPU launch in the last 15 years. I’m also of the 1070ti and 1080 are essentially midrange cards now, with the 1060 6gb and 8GB being high low end, as the moment a new line is released, the drop off *should* be huge $ for $. Volta should have already come out with game optimized cards, but Vega was so far behind, in dx11 titles, and games built with dx11 engines and a dx12 patch (pretty much every game besides Prey, Resident Evil 7, Doom and Wolfenstein), so with game devs trying to save money by not building engines from the ground up, AMD was really hurt on every front performance wise. If the engines switched Nvidea would have had to counter. They couldn’t have a $219 usd card performing at their $400 level, a $400 faster than there $529 price point, and a $500 AMD neck and neck with their $729 card. AMD needed that low level api adoption and did not get it (which is infuriating as Nvidea and AMD perform better in DX12 and Vulkan engines; AMD just much better. Hey, if you game in Linux, AMD is the way to go regardless of the engine). Anyway, this post was long enough (like the lifespan of Polaris and Maxwell+~I mean Pascal.).
Philip, are you putting destruction Darius on steam? because I think its way too good to not I think you could even make some money off it if you dedicate some time to polishing it and improving on the game's graphics, good luck to you and keep up the good work!
GeForce must have an account and auto enables sending metadata with Nvidia without your knowledge or consent is a "great" Experience. TH-cam comments... why do i keep scrolling down ?!
Did you miss out on the intel + amd vega deal? I think it's one of the best things right now. Vega performs extremely well on lower power, when they're not aiming at nvidias best.
Hi 2kliksphilip, I have been using clickteam fusion 2.5 for a while now and want to know how you make your top-down style games (in particular the movement engine). I know that you will probably not do one but plz? Edit : also thanks for showing me the program you're the reason I started making games. I wanted to make them for a while and couldn't find anythign that i liked until i found your game making adventures series. Thanks a lot :)
quangluu96 I think that’s a bit unfair. FreeSync displays exist with less range, yes, but that’s only because it’s cheaper to implement than with the royalties G-Sync has you paying. With FreeSync, you’ll need to do a lot more research, but if you get a good FreeSync monitor, something around $200 less than the G-Sync equivalent, then you’d be in for much the same experience provided your graphics cards are also equivalent.
G-Sync and sadly Freesync are mostly just gimmicks and just an alternative to what V-Sync can do if you properly optimize V-Sync, you can get better results compared G-Sync/Freesync, also gets rid of the stupid panel flickering monitor syncs have.
To be honest this makes a very good point. Even though everyone thinks Polaris/Vega lost to nvidia because of inferior gaming benchmarks, AMD is rolling in it because of the insane GPU sales to miners. Personally, I'm happy that this happened, now AMD can put this money into producing even better GPUs to put NVIDIA back in their place, or make their ryzen lineup even better.
The sad part is that Vega was supposed to be AMD's GPU equivalent to Ryzen, but when people kept comparing it to the 1080 Ti, it made Vega sound so much worse than it is. The 1080 Ti didn't exist when Vega was shown off at CES, and Vega 64 was never supposed to compete with the 1080 Ti.
while you may not have had problems with AMD's drivers, I sure have. Just recently I went to update to "Adrenalin", and my PC was bricked for a few days, until I just decided to reset windows.
I bought stock in AMD earlier this year, and their share value went down throughout the time I had them, so I wouldn't say they're in a better position.
As someone that has to buy a new GPU, the prices disappoint me a lot. If I want something even close to top end I have to pay over a thousand dollars for just a GPU. I always imagined with technology developing more and more that we as consumers would be able to afford GOOD or even GREAT cards without spending a months worth of disposable income
Do you really think the prices for 1000s will drop significantly? I'm a bit sceptical towards buying second hand GPUs as I feel like it's a bit of a gamble where I may very well end up getting a burnt out miner GPU
400 bucks? I mean I am in the EU so maybe prices here are just very different, but the lowest I have seen on retailers was 550€ for a 1080 and that was on the cheaper end.
innemannen People seems to forget about the low end how they are actually a descent option. Since the graphics setting are very similar but the FPS differentiate much when you change the settings. With a gtx 1050ti for example, it only costs 120$ but can play every single game at 1080p and 60fps. You play Overwatch with 100fps on high settings, the only game that disappoint me is PUBG because the optimization is terrible and only playable at 1080p 60fps on low settings. 2klicksfphilip already made a video about the graphics setting and how little the difference is. I’m not playing to play any game at all at ultra settings because personally I find it a waste of performance
I wish the AMD cards were better, not because I'm a AMD fanboy but because it forces NVIDIA to improve their cards. Currently there is a duopoly between NVIDIA and AMD and while AMD lags behind NVIDIA can do what they what and charge what they want.
ben mcnamara Have hope. AMD cards are just as good. They simply don't have the proper software to work with. Software will catch up and competition should come back soon.
I hope in 2018 I can build a new Ryzen 5 and Navi GPU (or Vega if Navi is not available, or the prices become a little more affordable where I live), to replace my aging FX6300 and HD7870.
Let's say they sell a GPU to MSI or another brand for 170 dollars for a Vega 56 chip. They're selling for $170 whether MSI sells it at MSRP or 2x as much.
Two years ago I decided to get myself a 4K monitor, because I knew the Fury X would keep games playable for at least one generation. And I was right (just not at Ultra settings on everything, medium/high is fine). A generation later, and I have now posted my 4K monitor up for sale and bought a 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitor. You better not mess up with Navi, AMD... I will jump boat if Nvidia has FreeSync support by then.
now that AMD is getting more money (hopefully to pump into their newest products) i think that i can finally go from a nvidia to a AMD. i know they will not be able to rival nvidia for a while. but i still believe that they have a chance at the market in 2018.
I admittedly prefer Nvidia products, but adaptive sync technology alone has made start to consider AMD GPUs; I already own a 1080 so it's probably going to be a while before I need an upgrade, I switched to Ryzen earlier this year, very happy with decision
what is this fallacy of volta being delayed that everyone keeps saying? kepler was 2 years after fermi, maxwell was 2 years after kepler, pascal was 2 years after maxwell, so then obviously consumer volta should be AT LEAST late spring 2018
I feel they should do the same thing they did with Ryzen with their gpu's, make small chips cheaply and effectively and raid em up or whatever, since parallelization works well with the small gpu cores.
What would push amd over nvidia, would be making a community effort like open-sourcing completely. You could argue about how niche that community is, but just consider how big it can get (mesa), given if they even consider it
i like the details
i noticed that in "amd's cpus in 2017" the amd logo is on a top of a mountain
and in this video the amd logo is in a valley
great summary of the content
Vega is 2 years late. On the other hand, Ryzen are promising.
I'd love to see 2 things in 2018:
1. Have AMD beat Intel in every move
2. HAVE THOSE FUCKING RAM PRICES GO BACK TO NORMAL
Eating Flashbang if AMD beats intel and NVidia they will probably turn like them, AMD at one point had the lead and did the scummy pratices too
Samuel Souza AMD actually never surpass intel much, best they did was the Athlon 64. But they ended up sharing the x64 architecture with intel! Without AMD, Intel wouldn't be as big as now.
Amd allowed intel to use their architecture when amd was on top. They arent like intel/
Samuel Souza For instance...?
L Nstcl The only reason they did it is for a shit ton of money, they didn't give it for free. If Intel did that to amd you would call foul.
I have a RX 570 running at 110 W, because, what's the point of having it draw 170 W for just 5-10% more performance?
And a hell of a lot more noise too
exactly!
My gtx 770-4gb fan low but in 70c degrees and up my gpu fans run on max. All my fans in my pc runs max in 60c. Sounds I don’t care. Overclock to limit. :D
Kazuto Kirigaya i dont even know why people care for noise....wear headphones and listen to some slipknot and you wont have any problems
Luka Sušić it's just annoying. Some people are more sensetive to noise than others. It's the same thing about itx cases. Why not just get a larger case and fit a full sized graphics card?

Pfft gotta run 4 Titan Vs in SLI to be considered high range in 2018
bro Titan V at less than 1500 MHz core clock is much faster than a 1080
revildevil2000 It's soon to be a 2 year card and historically about this time it should a midrange card like it's predecessor.
It is midrange by nvidia's own GPU codename nomenclature. GP-104 is midrange, the gimped edition so to speak, GP-102 is the full Pascal chip.

Still wish they'd release proper legacy drivers, though.
The proprietary one still exists? I thought it wasn't maintained since they released the OSS variant
Marek Černoch The OSS variant is almost exclusively maintained by the Community. It does not have acceptable Performance on Maxwell and Pascal, because Nvidia does not release certain signed files that are needed for reclocking (going over 300mhz gpu clock or smthn)
schonka2 aww... sorry, I somehow completely missed the word "Nvidias", so I thought you are referring to AMD's proprietary vs OSS
Marek Černoch haha np dude.
For a while i thought it was a reupload of the CPU video XD
Philip is living in 2018.
I hope Navi delivers for desktop gaming. We need proper competition again.
I have got an AMD CPU and a Nvidia GPU. I think my pc components hate each other.
🤔
LilacLizard 404 haha same
Actually they work better in older games. th-cam.com/video/nLRCK7RfbUg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/t8K2yc11eC4/w-d-xo.html
As far as I know Nvidia actually supports AMD for beating Intel
intel cpu amd gpu :P
True, 400-600€ ''gaming'' laptops with rx560/gtx1050 level of performance would be amazing
@jvalex18 never? Give it a few years.. only problem is the fact that games evolve aswell
thought it was a re-upload, wouldn't have been suprised with youtube atm tbf
All these danm time travelers in the comment section
Happy New Year 2kliksphilip, I hope 3kliks and kliksphilip wish you the same

Happy New Year Phillip, and to you folks, who are reading this, I wish you too a Happy New Year!
This is where i come for all my hardware information. (The one that matters to me anyway :P)
Love you philip, Have a fantastic 2018!
HAPPY NEW YEARS FROM AUSTRALIA!

Chuuya Vega 56 is actually better in all regards, even power consumption. Only the price kills it.
I’m going on an all kliksphilip binge watch. C u in a few days.
Already completed my binge m8
Did a binge too, I survived
For me this was uploaded in 2018
Nice Keemstar picture.

Happy New Year!
Very apt analysis on here.
Holy shit i'm early.
Also Philip, will you make another series about dreams on kliksphilip? That shit was really deep mayn, watching at 2am.
AMD is the hero we need, but what we will never buy.
Here before the fanboys.
You nailed it 0:33 ~ 1:05.
Happy new year!

You do know that all that money goes to the retailers, right? AMD have sold the cards at the same base cost all this time - profits from miners are all taken by the shops and other third parties.
ChiefFalque the only benefit for amd is they get easy sales.
happy new year philips
you a little amd fan now :> ?
War Daddy only Now you have Seen that?
Masta Geah he's made loads of videos on amd

propably not a fan but a supporter because intel's and nvidia's shitty practices and because competition is good
To be fair to him he alternates between amd and nvidia each year
Happy New years Philip
Happy new year
For a second there I thought this was a reupload
C'mon Navi, don't fail us like Vega did.
It's not a Reupload, yesterday's video was about CPU's
thanks. i messed up:D
Haha almost clicked away thanks :)
So interesting watching this video all these years later. Heres hoping the 8000 series will be worthwhile!!

im living in 2017 :(
Not fully yet mate, still 10:30pm in WA mate

omg gpu video about amd haha :D
I'm so glad AMD is getting on its feet after years of suffering from Nvidia&Intel.
philip could you make a video on macs vs pcs and their uses? unless you've never used a mac
oh now gpus
Someone who doesn't add an apostrophe to plural nouns. FINALLY!
And just in the last days huge news had been released. Glad to be in team red
I was very confused looking at my feed and seeing 2 of the same videos... until I realized the one letter difference.
can it run crysis dou?
I don't know, Why are you asking me?
asking for a friend
yes, only worse than nvidia.
Philip is the best guy ever made!
dat Wolfenstein pronunciation
Ive always went green when it comes to gpus
Heaty mainly because I know how powerful they are compared to each other and GeForce experience
Yeah GeForce experience is great
Heaty t me too
Heaty I switched to green after my 7950 because amd started to fall behind after that.

"Huge Vega deal with Apple". Huge as in the 4 people who are going to buy a $5K 5K IMac.
Hey Philip, how's destruction darius 2 coming along? Haven't had an update in a while
Wait, should I wait for a Volta based GT1130?
Linux users have never been so happy. We've got fully open-source drivers and official Vulkan implemetation support from AMD!

Hi Phillip!
Do you know hotline miami games and can you make videos about it please?
shots being fired against AdoredTV?
Who´s watching this before 1st January?
I´m watching this. 5th February, 1999.
The future looks great, mate.
The 500 series would do great if it wasn't for miners. Vega is too powerhungry and too expensive to even be considered
1k just for a gpu? where are u get these prices lol u can get a gtx 1080 for 400 on newegg
Gotta love capitalism 😊😊
I wish the AMD cards were better, not because I'm a AMD fanboy but because it forces NVIDIA to improve their cards. Currently there is a duopoly between NVIDIA and AMD and while AMD lags behind NVIDIA can do what they what and charge what they want.
ben mcnamara Have hope. AMD cards are just as good. They simply don't have the proper software to work with. Software will catch up and competition should come back soon.
Shao Zapomni that is why I don't understand fanboys who hate on the competitors, the better the competition the better your preferred company will be
I bought vega 56 when it was cheaper the 1070... Was it a bad chicos?
I hope in 2018 I can build a new Ryzen 5 and Navi GPU (or Vega if Navi is not available, or the prices become a little more affordable where I live), to replace my aging FX6300 and HD7870.
AMD doesnt make an extra penny from the extra price of GPU sales
But they are selling every GPU the can manifacture.
RagnarokDel guaranteed sales is the only benefit for them
what? So youre saying they dont make extra money from selling gpus?
XD XD XD new year evening and he making information vid :D
if i may ask, how good is a 1060 laptop version?
now that AMD is getting more money (hopefully to pump into their newest products) i think that i can finally go from a nvidia to a AMD. i know they will not be able to rival nvidia for a while. but i still believe that they have a chance at the market in 2018.
1:30 That's an ASUS GeForce GTX 750 Ti, not a AMD : - (.
No wonder they fired Raja Koduri, I wonder who will replace him.
I feel they should do the same thing they did with Ryzen with their gpu's, make small chips cheaply and effectively and raid em up or whatever, since parallelization works well with the small gpu cores.
I like how he spelled Wolfenstein correctly.
rip... bought an i7 just months before the release of coffee lake and ryzen
What would push amd over nvidia, would be making a community effort like open-sourcing completely.
You could argue about how niche that community is, but just consider how big it can get (mesa), given if they even consider it
i've been off course from the "tech news" and new component stuff since conputex 2017 and i thought vega was released in july?
Why am I watching 1 year old video..?
